September 1881 in Wien, österreichischer sozialistischer Politiker und Vertreter des sogenannten Austromarxismus, war aktiv in der österreichischen Arbeiterbewegung und in der Sozialdemokratischen Partei Österreichs als Journalist und als Politiker. Im Jahre 1907 wurde er Redakteur der „Arbeiter-Zeitung", im selben Jahr gründete er gemeinsam mit Karl Renner und Adolf Braun die Monatsschrift „Der Kampf". Er war zur gleichen Zeit Abgeordneter im Reichsrat und Leiter des sozialdemokratischen Fraktionsekretariats. Als im Jahre 1914 der l. Weltkrieg ausbrach, wurde er als Reserveleutnant einberufen, er gerät in russische Kriegsgefangenschaft. Im Juli 1917 konnte er durch Vermittlung von Victor Adler das sibirische Kriegsgefangenenlager verlassen und nach einem Aufenthalt von mehreren Wochen in Petersburg, wo er der Gast von Theodor und Lydia Dan war, im September des selben Jahres mit einem Transport von Austauschgefangenen nach Wien zurückkehren. Vom 21. November 1918 bis zum 1919 war Bauer österreichischer Staatssekretär des Äusseren. Nach dem Ende des Krieges hatte er mit Anderen den Versuch gemacht, eine Brücke zwischen den Resten der Zweiten Internationale und der im Jahre 1919 gegründeten Komintern zu schlagen. Das Resultat war die sogenannte Wiener Internationale, auch 2 (1/2) Internationale genannt. Im Jahre 1923 wurde die Sozialistische Arbeiter Internationale (S.A.I.) gegründet, die das Ende der Wiener Internationale bedeutete.

The Islamic World More Information on "Ancient Eygpt" SOLAR ECLIPSES IN THE ANCIENT NILE VALLEY A full discussion of the presumed knowledge of solar eclipses by the ancient Egyptians is beyond the scope of these brief comments. However, it is pertinent to note that Greek writers, without exception, gave priority to Egypt in astronomical knowledge. Still, there has not yet come to light an Egyptian document specifically mentioning solar eclipses. However, that the Egyptians possessed accurate knowledge of eclipses is evident from external sources. The golden age of Greek science commences with the Ptolemaic dynasty (330 B.C.) in Egypt, the building of Alexandria, and the founding of the city's Library. The major Greek astronomers studied there. Moreover, several of the Alexandrian astronomers considered Greek were actually Egyptians who had adopted or been given Greek names. One such person was Ptolemy (150 A.D.), author of the Almagest, the most important astronomical text until the Middle Ages, whose knowledge of solar eclipses is well-documented.

BLINKING BACK: EYEBALL TO EYEBALL WITH ED KRUPP by JOANNE CONMAN In an article entitled " The Sphinx Blinks They rejected the idea the Egyptians engaged in astrology until that time, as well. The title of their three-volume set is unfortunate since most of the "astronomical" texts deal with the Egypt's astral religion, which was simply not early astronomy. There is no mention in Krupp's piece of the obvious evidence that raises doubts about or refutes the claims of Hancock and Bauval. For example, there is plenty of factual material that Mesopotamian texts have given us about Leo. We have attested records of the constellation Leo, which later became the astrological sign of Leo. Mesopotamian texts first list Leo about 1000 BCE, some 1500 years after the Giza pyramids. There is also the fact that nothing has been found that attests to any interest in equinoxes in ancient Egypt. No Egyptian religious festival can be definitely linked with either the spring or the fall equinox. Krupp appears to accept a number of unsubstantiated guesses as facts, as when he writes: "Intentionally aligned toward cardinal east, the Sphinx reflects the ritual significance of the cardinal directions in the Old Kingdom period (2686-2181 B.C.)." What we know factually is that the sphinx faces due east. We do not know to what, if anything, the sphinx was "intentionally aligned." We cannot assume anything about the "ritual significance" of cardinal directions in the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt based on speculation that the sphinx was intentionally aligned due east. The Egyptians did not distinguish left and east or right and west linguistically.
