Dadurch ...http://booksllc.net/?l=de&id=1056448 ... Read more

Product Description
From the jacket: "Beginning with the second century B.C. astrology penetrated in ever increasing degree the Hellenistic and Roman world. The present publication is an attempt to follow one particular component in its ramifications: the Greek horoscopes, from the first century B.C. to beginning of Islam. All available sources have been utilized: monuments, papyri, ostraca, and astrological treatises from the Roman Imperial period to Byzantine times." ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dr. Otto Neugebauer (May 26, 1899 - February 19, 1990) was an Austrian-American mathematician and historian of science who became known for his research on the history of astronomy and the other exact sciences in antiquity and into the Middle Ages. By studying clay tablets he discovered that the ancient Babylonians knew much more about mathematics and astronomy than had been previously realized. The National Academy of Sciences has called Neugebauer "the most original and productive scholar of the history of the exact sciences, perhaps of the history of science, of our age. Neugebauer began as a mathematician, turned first to Egyptian and Babylonian mathematics, and then took up the history of mathematical astronomy. In a career of sixty-five years, he largely created our current understanding of mathematical astronomy from Babylon and Egypt, through Greco-Roman antiquity, to India, Islam, and Europe of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. His influence on the study of the history of the exact sciences is profound" ... Read more

Excerpt: Thomas Gold (May 22, 1920 June 22, 2004) was an Austrian-born astrophysicist, a professor of astronomy at Cornell University, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the Royal Society (London). Gold was one of three young Cambridge scientists who in the 1950s proposed the now mostly abandoned 'steady state' hypothesis of the universe. Gold's work crossed academic and scientific boundaries, into biophysics, astronomy, aerospace engineering, and geophysics. Gold was born on May 22, 1920 in Vienna, Austria to Max Gold, a wealthy Jewish industrialist who ran one of Austria's largest mining and metal fabrication company, and former actress Josefine Martin. Following the economic downfall of the European mining industry in the late 1920s, Max Gold moved his family to Berlin, where he had taken a job as director of a metal trading company. Following the start of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's anti-Jewish campaigns in 1933, Gold and his family left Germany and traveled through Europe for the next few years. Excerpt: Jakob Philipp Fallmerayer (10 December 1790, Brixen 26 April 1861) was a Tyrolean traveller, journalist, politician and historian, best known for his controversial (some even say racist) theories concerning the racial origins of the Greeks, and for his travel writings. Fallmerayer was born, the seventh of ten children, in Weiler Pairdorf, a village in Tschötsch near Brixen (Bressanone) in Tyrol. The region was at the time of Fallmerayer's birth subject to the Habsburg Monarchy, in 1805 it became a part of Bavaria, and is today located in Italy. His parents were small farmers. From the age of seven Fallmerayer attended the local school in Tschötsch and worked as a shepherd. In 18...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1429319 ... Read more
