p p. 349-358 Fast Gossiping in Square Meshes/Tori with Bounded-Size Packets Francis C.M. Lau, Shi-Heng Zhang Gossiping is the communication problem in which each node has a unique message (token) to be transmitted to every other node. The nodes exchange their tokens by packets. A solution to the problem is judged by how many rounds of packet sending it requires. In this paper, we consider the version of the problem in which small-size packets (each carrying exactly one token) are used, the links (edges) of the network are half-duplex (only one packet can flow through a link at a time), and the nodes are all-port (a node's incident edges can all be active at the same time). This is also known as the H* model. We study the 2D square mesh and the 2D square torus. An improved, asymptotically optimal algorithm for the mesh and an optimal algorithm for the torus are presented. Heng was a mathematician, astronomer and geographer. He became chief astrologer and minister under the Emperor An'ti of China. In the year 123 he corrected the calendar to bring it into line with the seasons. In 132 Heng invented the first seismoscope for measuring earthquakes. Heng's device was in the shape of a cylinder with eight dragon heads around the top, each with a ball in its mouth. Around the bottom were eight frogs, each directly under a dragon head. When an earthquake occurred, a ball fell out of a the dragon's mouth into a frog's mouth, making a noise. Heng was the first person in China to construct a rotating celestial globe. He wrote about this in his work Hun-i chu where he describes his version of the universe as follows:- The sky is like a hen's egg, and is as round as a crossbow pellet; the Earth is like the yolk of the egg, lying alone at the centre. The sky is large and the Earth small. In another work Lin Hsien , he describes the stars:- North and south of the equator there are groups which are always brightly shining.

An Introduction to Zhang Heng, a Scientist in the East Han Dynasty, and His Achievements in Astronomy (II)
Print version Among the most famous astronomers in ancient China, Zhang Heng of the East Han Dynasty was obviously the most brilliant. In the beginning of the book Ling Xian , Zhang tried to explain the origin of heaven and earth and the issues of evolution. He thought that before heaven and earth were separated, it was chaotic. Once they were separated, the light substances rose to form the heavens and the heavy substances coagulated to form the earth. Heaven contained the qi of yang and the earth contained the qi of yin . The two kinds of qi qi that was ejected from the earth formed stars. Zhang believed that stars moved slowly when they were close to heaven, and those far from heaven moved faster. In other words, he tried to explain speed of planets in terms of the distance between them and their suns. The History of the Eastern Han Dynasty

Abstract: Clustering has typically been a problem related to numerical data. However, in databases, oftentimes the data values are categorical and cannot be assigned meaningful numerical substitutes. With the recent interest in data mining, we begin to question the possibility of clustering numerical data. Following some recent work in this area, we propose an algorithm based on dynamical systems. To our knowledge, this is the first such algorithm that can guarantee the convergence of the dynamical... As the convergence of the process can cause a problem, Zhang et al. suggested how to modify the dynamic system to guarantee convergence.

Languages : Site Desciption This project is the combination of Chinese history and its language (Mandarin). Our project is about 70-80% history and 20-30% language. For the history component, we will cover the history of Imperial China from when recorded history began up till 1911. The history component can be discovered through Dynasties, Major Events, People, Culture and Sciences. Under some of these categories, there will be many subcategories. This site has many interactive features such as .wav files to help foreigners pronounce names correctly, maps to guide through the battles, pictures, quizzes, and crossword puzzles. Teachers and students can learn the basics of the language in the language section with many .wav files. They can also test their knowledge by taking the quizzes as well as making up some quizzes themselves. Teachers and students can also save their scores to their own account for later viewing.
