Kennedy, John Fitzgerald
Kennedy, John Fitzgerald (1917-1963), 35th president of the United States (1961-1963), was admitted to Princeton in 1935, as a member of the Class of 1939. He fell ill with jaundice in London that summer and did not matriculate until October 26, 1935, a month after college opened, and withdrew on December 12, 1935, because of a recurrence of jaundice. He later entered Harvard from which he graduated cum laude in 1940. While at Princeton he roomed in 9 South Reunion with Kirk LeMoyne Billings '39 and Ralph Horton, Jr. '39. Reunion Hall, condemned as a fire hazard, was torn down in 1965. Bricks from the fireplace in their living room, rescued by his classmates, frame a bronze plaque about him in the south entry of the Class of 1939 Dormitory. In his application for admission he wrote: ``To be a Princeton Man is indeed an enviable distinction.'' Go to Search A Princeton Companion

John Fitzgerald Kennedy
Born: 5/29/1917
Birthplace: Brookline, Mass.
Died: 11/22/1963
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Mass., on May 29, 1917. His father, Joseph P. Kennedy, was Ambassador to Great Britain from 1937 to 1940.
Kennedy was graduated from Harvard University in 1940 and joined the Navy the next year. He became skipper of a PT boat that was sunk in the Pacific by a Japanese destroyer. Although given up for lost, he swam to a safe island, towing an injured enlisted man.
After recovering from a war-aggravated spinal injury, Kennedy entered politics in 1946 and was elected to Congress. In 1952, he ran against Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., of Massachusetts, and won.
Kennedy was married on Sept. 12, 1953, to Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, by whom he had three children: Caroline, John Fitzgerald, Jr., and Patrick Bouvier (died in infancy).
In 1957 Kennedy won the Pulitzer Prize for a book he had written earlier, Profiles in Courage.
After strenuous primary battles, Kennedy won the Democratic presidential nomination on the first ballot at the 1960 Los Angeles convention. With a plurality of only 118,574 votes, he carried the election over Vice President Richard M. Nixon and became the first Roman Catholic president. Kennedy brought to the White House the dynamic idea of a “New Frontier” approach in dealing with problems at home, abroad, and in the dimensions of space. Out of his leadership in his first few months in office came the 10-year Alliance for Progress to aid Latin America, the Peace Corps, and accelerated programs that brought the first Americans into orbit in the race in space.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy Jr
John F. Kennedy, Jr., his wife, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, and Carolyn's sister, Lauren, perished on their way to Martha's Vineyard on the evening of Friday, July 16, 1999, when their plane, piloted by Kennedy, crashed. While no definitive cause has been determined, it is widely believed that hazy conditions, which limited visibility and made it difficult to distinguish water from land, contributed to the crash.
In death, Kennedy was the subject of the same media frenzy that chronicled his every public move and speculated on his private affairs as well. Television networks preempted regularly scheduled programs to cover the search for remains and the wreckage of Kennedy's Piper Saratoga, which Kennedy purchased in April.
Kennedy was born on November 25, 1960, only weeks after his father was elected president. He was the first child born to a president-elect and the first infant to live in the White House since the Cleveland administration. Three years later, the world watched as the three year old, on his birthday, saluted his father's casket as it passed by. Two weeks after the funeral, his mother, Jacqueline Kennedy, moved John Jr. and his sister, Caroline, out of the White House to Manhattan, where she made every attempt to raise her children as normally as possible, out of the public eye. "Unless he's allowed freedom," his mother said, "he'll be a vegetable."

John Fitzgerald Kennedy
American President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1917-1963 Among his many distinctions as President of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy remains the youngest man ever elected to the office of Chief Executive, and the youngest man to die while still fulfilling his duties. Serving as America's President, John F. Kennedy held his office for 1,000 days, dying November 22nd, 1963, assassinated at the age of 46. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29th, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts, the 2nd son of 9 children of the affluent, Roman Catholic Kennedy Family. Kennedy's father, Joseph Patrick Kennedy was a self-improving multi-millionaire who had built a financial empire through ventures in banking, the stock market, ship building and the motion picture industry and liquor distribution. Kennedy's mother, Rose Fitzgerald was of Irish ancestry like her husband, and daughter of former Boston mayor John F. Fitzgerald. As family patriarch Joseph Kennedy was a hard task master who pushed his children to achieve and often pitted them against one another competitively. John Kennedy's childhood was one spent at exclusive private schools, including Canturbury School of New Milford, CT and preparatory school at Choate Hall in Wallingford, CT. At the age of 18 John Kennedy spent a year at the London School of Economics while Joseph Kennedy served as the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain. Kennedy returned to America to attend Princeton University, but left during his freshman term due to a case of severe jaundice. His illness may have been caused by a condition the Kennedy family kept secret throughout his life: John Kennedy was of the 1 in 100,000 people afflicted with

JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on May 29, 1917, the second of the nine children of Joseph Patrick Kennedy and his wife, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy. Kennedy’s Irish ancestors had immigrated to Boston and his grandfather, Patrick J. Kennedy, was a Boston political leader as well as a successful businessman and saloonkeeper. His maternal grandfather, John F. Fitzgerald was the mayor of Boston, popularly known as “Honey Fitz”. The Kennedy’s lived in a modest but comfortable frame house, but as the family grew, so did their father’s fortune. Joseph Kennedy had become quite wealthy by the time he was 30 making his fortune in stock-market speculation, motion pictures, shipbuilding and real estate. He also would hold several appointive positions in the federal government during the Roosevelt administration, and his driving ambition was to put a son in he White House. Kennedy’s father had groomed his first son, Joseph, for politics – Joe was going to get the Kennedy’s into the White House. But young Joe was killed in action in 1944, and after working as a reporter for the Hearst International News Service, Kennedy decided to enter politics himself. His opportunity came early in 1946, when he announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives seat for the 11th Congressional District of Massachusetts. He ran against nine other candidates and won the primary with 42 percent of the votes. In November, he defeated his Republican opponent and became a congressman at the age of 29, winning reelection in 1948 and 1950. In 1952, Kennedy decided to run against Republican Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., defeating him by more than 70,000 votes, in a campaign the entire Kennedy family took part in.

That Kennedy Kid Responses to the article Another Kennedy finds a way to foolishly maim or kill himself and others, thus the media circle jerk must commence. When a Kennedy dies be it from playing a dangerous game of football on a tree-lined mountain while wearing skis or flying a small plane at night in a thick haze after logging only a minimal amount of flight time it makes headlines. The news doesn't dominate the airwaves and newspapers because of the loss to mankind there is none but because their name is one associated with power, prestige and more often than not, incredible acts of stupidity. Not that anyone would risk losing his job to point out the latter characteristic, even though showing poor judgment screams, "I'm a Kennedy!" Despite or perhaps because of their wealth, the Kennedys are as dysfunctional as the fictional families featured on "The Jerry Springer Show." The Kennedys are considered America's royalty the equivalent of the British monarchy because no other prominent American family has as many idiosyncrasies and incidents as the family that spawned the Prince Charles and Princess Diana debacle.

Obituary
John F Kennedy Jr
Lawyer and magazine editor, but always JFK's son
Harold Jackson
Monday July 19, 1999
The Guardian

There were two notable aspects to the tragically shortened life of John F Kennedy Jr. Throughout his 38 years he managed to avoid the scandals which had dogged so many of his relatives. And, in spite of the obvious temptations and the relentless media attention he endured from birth, he made no effort to capitalise on his illustrious background. The most enduring image of John and Jackie Kennedy's second child has been endlessly reproduced for more than three decades. It is the picture of the tiny figure who spent his third birthday standing solemnly to attention, saluting his assassinated father's coffin as it was carried to Arlington National Cemetery. John Jr had arrived 17 days after his father's hair's breadth election as the country's first Roman Catholic president. He was the first, and so far the only, child to be born into the family of a president-elect. In the aftermath of her husband's murder, Jackie Kennedy moved her children to New York and made strenuous (and largely successful) efforts to keep John and his sister Caroline out of the public eye.
