Extractions: Deveronvale Football Club 2001 A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF............. Following Deveronvale over the past twenty-five years has had its ups and downs with more downs than ups it has to be said but the Year 2001 was a roller coaster for the Deveronvale and the "valley faithful". The year started with a historic trip to Glasgow where the Vale faced Partick Thistle in the second round of the Scottish Cup. A band of a few hundred colourful and vociferous supporters made the long journey to Firhill, some in fancy dress, to see their hero's go down 3-0 to an experienced second division outfit in front what turned out to be the biggest crowd of the day in Scotland. Apart from the score line the day was a memorable occasion for all involved with the club and a great start to year for all concerned. It was back to league business the following week for the players as they turned over local rivals Fraserburgh 2-0 at home, both goals on the day coming from Jamie Watt in what turned out to be free scoring year for the pint-sized striker. Another long journey, this time to Wick, saw the Vale record a 2-1 victory against the "Scorries" and put their title bid back on track. Fort William travelled to Princess Royal Park at the end of January and again Vale edged out their opponents 2-1, with the winner coming from captain Nigel Montgomery from all of 35 yards and a strong contender for "goal of the season".

Anthony Thomas became the Christmas present come early for Chicago fans, and powered the ground game for the Bears offensive attack. That, coupled with a suffocating and opportunistic defense helped vault the Bears to the top of the division and into the post season. Now the Bears must find a way to repeat their stellar season and move on to the next level. CONCERNS Miller took few sacks last year and one reason was Brockermeyer. Robertson will have to protect his blind side in the same manner or Chandler may be in the lineup sooner rather than later. Also, if Robertson should go down, rookie Marc Colombo isn't ready for a starting role yet. The Bears may have to do some shuffling to protect Miller. Outside of Booker, the wide receivers were inconsistent at best. They will need to improve for the Bears to succeed. Terrell and Whiter have both looked improved in camp, now they need to bring it on game day. And the Bears offensive braintrust will need to loosen up a bit so defenses aren't so brave in daring them to throw. The Bears ranked 26th in offense in 2001, and not because they were unable to run the ball. They need to improve on that if they plan to go to the next level.

Extractions: Personal Bio Keith Derrick McKenzie was born on October 17, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. In high school, Keith played offensive guard and linebacker, earning him three letters. He was an all-conference and all-metro selection in football for Highland Park High School . Keith had 65 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 interceptions as a senior. Keith also served as Highland Park's punter, averaging 40 yards per kick. Besides football, Keith lettered once in tennis, twice in wrestling, and three times in track. He competed in the 200-meter dash (best time was 23.9) and was a state qualifier in the shot put (best mark was 55'0"). Keith attended Ball State University in Indiana where he played basketball (4 games his senior year), threw the shot put (at one track meet and placed third!), and of course, football. In 1996 Keith was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 7 th round (252 nd overall) of the NFL Collegiate Draft. Keith's family is no stranger to the NFL. His uncle, Reggie McKenzie, played for the Buffalo Bills (1972-82) and Seattle Seahawks (1983-84) and currently works in the front office of the Seahawks. Keith's first experience in the NFL was as a training camp ballboy for the Seahawks for three summers while in high school. He has worked with his uncle's charity, the 'Reggie McKenzie Foundation,' in Detroit. Keith's hobbies include playing basketball and watching nature shows. He is currently single and lives in Detroit. Favorite movie: Coming to America Favorite book: Monster Favorite food:
Coaches 1967- Present Day 196770 keith mckenzie In 1971 mckenzie caused controversy when it was revealed thathe had Ross, John (Ed.) 100 Years Of Australian football Ken Fin Books http://www.geocities.com/shinboner_99/coach3.htm
Extractions: 1967-70 Keith McKenzie A brilliant wingman of North's successful teams of the 40's and 50's McKenzie took over from Killigrew at the beginning of the 1967 season. On the 5th of August 1967 McKenzie was responsible for what was, at the time, seen as an innovation - having North warm up before the game by running onto the ground in their tracksuits! During his reign the 'Roos were to be a middle of the ladder side never really challenging for a finals berth. Perhaps their best chance was 1970 when they had the exciting young Sam Kekovich teamed with much sought after West Australian recruit Barry Cable as well as established stars on their list. Injuries to Kekovich and John Dugdale as well as illness affecting Laurie Dwyer turned pre-season excitment to disappointment as North dropped to last place on the ladder. McKenzie left North at the end of 1970 with a win/loss record of 22/78 with1 draw. In 1971 McKenzie caused controversy when it was revealed that he had crossed to Carlton to coach the reserves without a clearance. Because of this the Carlton reseves team were liable to a loss of points for matches won up until that time. 1971-2 Brian Dixon Sweeping changes a the club at the beginning of 1971 saw Brian Dixon appointed coach, Ron Clarke world record distance runner, appointed assistant and Allen Aylett become president. Dixon a former Melbourne premiership player, Tassie Medallist and games record holder, was a member of the Victorian state government at the time. His appointment was seen as innovative and controversial. 1971 was also the beginning of the club's five year plan to win its first VFL premiership. Dixon's term as coach can be seen as a team building one where many new players were tried and those existing players, not regarded as suitable for the teams overall strategy, were cleared. At the end of his two years as coach Dixon had won 6 lost 38 and drawn 1. He had also positioned the team for greater things to come.

Spin - 022500b McKenzie We are happy to have keith join us The 6foot-3, 266-pound mckenzie is the second ThePro football Weekly Internet Edition asked contributing editor Joel http://archive.profootballweekly.com/content/archives/features_1999/spin_022500b
Extractions: Friday, Feb. 25, 2000 Keith McKenzie, a pass-rushing specialist in Green Bay, has signed with the Cleveland Browns. McKenzie's deal is for two years and worth $4.25 million. McKenzie, 26, recorded eight sacks in a reserve role with the Packers last season but turned down a contract extension with the team in hopes of becoming a full-time player elsewhere. "We are happy to have Keith join us," Browns head coach Chris Palmer said. "He is a quality player with excellent pass-rushing skills who will improve our defense." The 6-foot-3, 266-pound McKenzie is the second defensive end signed by the Browns this winter. Cleveland had already picked up Orpheus Roye, Pittsburgh's top defensive lineman last season. Roye signed a six-year deal with the Browns. The Pro Football Weekly Internet Edition asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum to weigh in on the subject. Q: What insight can you provide on McKenzie deciding to sign with the Browns? Buchsbaum: McKenzie went to the Browns because they promised him the chance to play right defensive end every down. He's a very good pass rusher as a situational guy, but the general feeling is the more he plays against the run, the more he wears down and he loses that great initial quickness that makes him so effective on the pass rush.

Extractions: The Bears appear to be in fine shape for 2002. Signing Chris Chandler to backup Jim Miller gives the Bears an experienced veteran quarterback to help guide the team from the sidelines. The offensive line got some help with the drafting of left tackle Marc Colombo, who will compete with second-year player Bernard Robertson for the starting job. Defensively, the team retained both Rosevelt Colvin and Warrick Holdman, two linebackers who really turned their game up a notch in 2001. The Bears also added DE Keith McKenzie to help add depth to their defensive line. No question, the Bears added much-needed depth to their defense, and that will help them succeed in the NFC in 2002. 2002 DRAFT PICKS: OT Marc Colombo (first round); CB Roosevelt Williams, Jr. (third); G Terrance Metcalf (third); DE Alex Brown (fourth); SS Bobby Gray (fifth); DE Bryan Knight (fifth); RB Adrian Peterson (sixth); WR Jamin Elliott (sixth); TE Bryan Fletcher (sixth).

Extractions: It was 1952 when Keith Jackson broadcast, on radio, his first college football game Stanford at Washington State. Stanford won 14-13 when the Cougar holder fumbled the snap for the extra point. And 50 seasons later, Keith Jackson is still having fun at the college football stadium and still sees Walter Mitty on occasional Saturdays. When ABC Sports acquired the broadcast rights for NCAA football in 1966, Jackson was a member of the announcing corps; and going into the first season of the new century he is still a member of the ABC corps, though his work is primarily the Pac-10 Conference. Keith says, "Travel was the devil that convinced" him that "ONE TIME ZONE equaled longevity." He is not convinced 73 years has anything to do with it. At the close of 1999, Keith Jackson was awarded the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Gold Medal, its highest honor; and named to the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame, the first broadcaster accorded these distinguished honors. Another first for Jackson was the Amos Alonzo Stagg Award from the American Football Coaches Association; and he was named National Sportscaster of the Year five successive times by the National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. He is in the NSSA Hall of Fame, The National Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame and the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
