Excerpt: Daryl Ernest O'Brien (born 10 September 1941) is a former Australian rules footballer who played 135 games for the North Melbourne Kangaroos during the 1960s. A tenacious utility player who often started on the half-back flank, he was also considered one of the toughest and most effective "taggers" of the period and one of the hardest men to beat one-on-one in the league. Indeed, O'Brien's tagging role embodied a who's who of top players of that era, including Ron Barassi, Bobby Skilton, Peter Hudson, Alex Jesaulenko, Peter Crimmins, Darrel Baldock, Roger Dean, John Sharrock, Des Tuddenham, Ted Whitten and John Northey, to name a few. In 1968, O'Brien was selected to represent Australia as part of the Australian Football World Tour, the second of the international rules football series against Ireland. In 1970, O'Brien joined VFA team Brunswick, and was appointed the dual role of captain-coach at the end of the 1971 season. He led the side to a 2nd Division Grand Final appearance in 1973, after which he announced his playing days were over. O'Brien went on to serve in the North Melbourne Match Committee as a team selector under premiership coach Ron Barassi. Following a successful post-football career in real estate, he is now retired and lives in Gowanbrae, Victoria. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=13162274 ... Read more

Chapters: Lindsay Fox, Peter Schofield, Fred Cook, Max Papley, Keith Mckenzie, Kevin Dynon. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 22. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Lindsay Edward Fox AC (born 19 April 1937) is an Australian businessman. As of 2009, he is the 10th richest person in Australia, with a net worth of around AU$1.5 billion. He is best known as the founder and chairman of his family-owned trucking and logistics company, Linfox. Lindsay Fox was brought up in Prahran, a suburb of Melbourne. He has been quoted as saying that his early family life was difficult and that "I had a pretty abusive father". He was educated at Melbourne High School, but was asked to leave during Year 10, at age 16, due to his lack of academic interest. He started working as a truck driver and was able to use this as a springboard to found Linfox. He has since visited Melbourne High School on numerous formal occasions. An indicator of his tremendous work ethic and raw business savvy can be seen on a profile of Fox televised on the ABC. He has been married to Paula for 50 years, and they have 6 children. Following the suicide of his son Michael in 1991, Fox advised the Federal and Victorian governments on youth suicide and is on the board of the National Advisory Council on Suicide Prevention. In 1992 he was named "Victorian Father of the Year". In an interview with George Negus in August 2004, Fox spoke of the loss of his son: "Well, life is about being up and being down and being able to get up again. And in my walks of life, I guess I thought I was invincible till one of my sons committed suicide. And at that point of time, I knew I wasn't invincible ... I'd give up everything if we could get Michael back. He's got a special place in each and every one of the hearts of our family and he'll always be...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2212294 ...
