Extractions: Violinist Midori and pianist/conductor Christoph Eschenbach have joined forces on a new recording of the rarely heard reconstruction of Mozart's Concerto for Violin, Piano and Orchestra, K. 56 The Sony Classical recording also features the composer's Sinfonia Concertante in E-Flat for Violin, Viola and Orchestra, K. 364 , with Eschenbach leading the NDR Sinfonieorchester on both works. Violist Nobuko Imai joins Midori on the Concertante recording. The reconstruction of the concerto was done by contemporary musicologist Philip Wilby using the 120 surviving bars of Mozart's score. Mozart never completed the work. Wilby completed the first movement based on Mozart's existing measures and used the second and third movements of the violin sonata as the basis for the rest of the concerto.
All Things Strings: Midori That latter point, simply putor perhaps not so simply, it turns outis whatthe last 20 years have meant to the renowned violinist known as midori. http://www.stringsmagazine.com/issues/strings104/coverstory.html
Extractions: A protegé of the late violin teacher Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard School of Music, Midori emerged as a major musical force inspiring a veritable parade of meticulously groomed violinists-in-training. For years, the phrase, "Really, she's the next Midori!" was a kind of mantra among music teachers. The Midori phenomenon was pushed up a notch in 1986 when she broke not one, but two violin strings during a performance with the Boston Symphony at the Tanglewood Music Center, under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. Calm and composed through it all, Midori ended up playing three different violins in that one piece of music, never making a single mistake. The story of that performance became legend before the concert was even over. That was more than 15 years ago.

Extractions: 3/23/00 6:35:21 PM Cincinnati welcomes Midori for a series of concerts this weekend with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Jesús López-Cobos conducting. This is not the first time our audiences will be able to enjoy her charm and virtuosity. In February 1999, Midori stopped briefly in Cincinnati for a chamber music concert. Her last appearance with the CSO was in 1997 when she played the First Violin Concerto by Shostakovich. In Beethoven's Violin Concerto, which is in the program of this weekend's concerts, Midori plays the first movement with gentleness and unfulfilled yearning. Her interpretation is so touching that one has to pause and contemplate the magnitude of the moment. The sound is rich and full. The spirit of the music seems to shelter us from the worries of everyday life. This music composed almost two centuries ago and played on an instrument of equal age communicates incredible relevance and tearful emotion. We, mortal vessels, are faced with the work universal and timeless. And such is the reflection on Midori's performance. In the opening measures of the last movement, she reaches beauty and confidence. The sound builds up in strength, jumping between light and darkness, peace and sparks of turbulence or almost fury.
Midori Snyder, Hannah's Garden sent me by way of the brownies was by none other than midori Snyder, a hannah's gardenis the deceptively simple tale of a nubile young violinist named Cassie http://www.greenmanreview.com/book/book_snyder_hannah.html
Extractions: Midori Snyder, hannah's garden (Viking, 2002) Well, I must say I was quite surprised when our Lady Grey asked me to write a review for this charming magazine. I am here as an observer for my Lady of the Winter Court, and I had not anticipated such an honor. Still, the dear lady promised me a new tale of the Summer and Winter Courts... 'Twould have been churlish to deny her at any rate, and with such an enticement set before me, too. Imagine my delight at the discovery that the charming little novel she sent me by way of the brownies was by none other than Midori Snyder, a lovely lady quite well known to Us in the Lands of Faerie. Miss Snyder is a wonderful writer, with a confidence and style that so many mortal storytellers sadly lack. hannah's garden is the deceptively simple tale of a nubile young violinist named Cassie, her dear yet apparently demented grandfather Daniel, and a battle between two Fey clans with Cassie's family at the center of the conflict. In the garden of the title, planted by Cassie's mysterious great-grandmother Hannah, Cassie will discover her family heritage of myth, magick, and sacrifice. For the border between the world of mortals and the world of Faerie is closing, and unless the mysterious grey-haired fiddler can convince Cassie to take up the traditional family bargain with the fey, the Green Clan will lose the battle to keep the way open. The Red Clan will take an unwilling sacrifice at random to open the border, and then they will control the gate. In the end, a willing and surprising mortal sacrifice must take place to ensure victory for the Green Clan.
