Extractions: News Vibraphonist Ted Piltzecker and George Shearing are on a break at Avatar Studios in New York City. Ted recently recorded an album with George's famous Quintet featuring John Pizzarelli for Telarc Records which will be released in April, 2002. Ted toured extensively with the Quintet many years ago, and now has reunited with the band for some special performing and recording dates. Janine Knox, a piano Masters student of Stephanie Brown, and violinist Misha Keylin performed at the Cultural Center in Chicago on October 17. They were part of the Dame Myra Hess Recital Series. In addition, they repeated their concert at the Performing Arts Dept of the University of Illinois on the Chicago campus. The program consisted of works by Tartini, Wieniawski, Paganini and Sarasate. Jim Pugh, Steve Dunkel and John Rutherford relax with YoYoMa at Hit Factory Studios, NYC after recording Byambasuren Sharav's "Legend of Herlen". The piece is part of an upcoming Silk Road Project CD and is orchestrated for morin khuur (Mongolian horsehead fiddle), voice, piano, three percussion and three trombones (2 tenors, 1 bass).

Extractions: Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, conducted by Ronald Gretz and staged by Braxton J. Peters, is staged on Oct. 9 and 11 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. The opera will be sung in English and the cast includes Jeff Buchman as the Count, Meagan Miller as the Countess, Tom Zielinski and Laura Lewis as Figaro and Susanna. The company will also present a "Mozart by Candlelight" evening at Carroll House on Dec. 13. Newly appointed conductor Leslie Dunner will give his first concert with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 5, at 6 p.m. at Downs Park, Pasadena, and on Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. at Quiet Waters Park, Annapolis. On the program is John Williams' Cowboy Overture , Hardemann's Lord of the Dance , and Strauss's Waltz and Polka among other popular works.
