Nigel Kennedy Page (a.k.a Nigel Kennedy) Update Well, simply put, kennedy (aka nigel kennedy) is my favouriteviolinist. I've been a fan of his for about 12 years now. http://www.milangowin.com/nige.html
Extractions: A Little About Nigel Nigel Kennedy was born in Brighton, England and now lives in Malvern, half an hour away from Aston Villa (for whom he is senior vice-president). He studied music at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Julliard School, jazz clubs and various platforms around the world. His interest in music as a whole has lead to collaborations with Riccardo Muti and the Philharmonia Orchestra (in his Royal Festival Hall debut), the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Yehudi Menuhin, Paul McCartney, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Gidon Kremer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Stephane Grappelli, Andre Previn, Kate Bush, Level 42 and most of the orchestras in the USA as well as Europe. Nigel Kennedy records exclusively for EMI. His recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons went to No. 3 in the UK pop charts and also charted in many other countries. It entered the UK classical chart directly at No. 1 and was still there a year later. This, and sale of one million copies, have earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records His recordings of the Elgar, Bruch and Mendelssohn, and Brahms Violin Concertos have all earned gold discs; other successful recording include works by Bartok, Ellington and Walton.

Extractions: HUTCHINSON ENCYCLOPEDIA Kennedy, Nigel Paul English violinist. He is credited with expanding the audience for classical music. His 1986 recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons sold more than 1 million copies. He announced a temporary retirement from the concert platform in 1992. On his return he made recordings of his own compositions, and in early 1999 abandoned his classical roots altogether, announcing major new projects based on his interpretation of the music of US musicians The Doors and Jimi Hendrix. However, 2000 saw Kennedy return to the classical arena, with new recordings of works by J S Bach and an international performance tour. Kennedy was educated at the Yehudi Menuhin School, Surrey, England, and the Juilliard School of Music, New York. He has allied Menuhin's ethic of openness and populism to modern marketing techniques. By cultivating a media image that challenges conventional standards of dress and decorum, he has succeeded in attracting young audiences to carefully understated performances of J S Bach, Max Bruch, and Alban Berg. His repertoire of recordings also includes jazz.

Extractions: October 28, 1989 To the Reaching Out (Interviews) Table of Contents Next, from the Oct. 28 issue of Melody Maker : There's an interview of Nigel Kennedy, the classical violinist who has played on some of Kate's tracks. Here's an excerpt: "EMI Classical's rising star, who won a gold disc and the BPI Classical Record Of The Year Award for his Elgar Violin Concerto, and has just gone straight into the album chart, at number 43, with his recording of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" [this could never happen in America], has also played on albums by Talk Talk, Paul McCartney, Judie Tzuke and has been working with Kate Bush on te long awaited follow-up to 'The Hounds of Love', 'The Sensual World'." Then, later in the interview: "Kennedy makes no secret of his intense admiration for Kate Bush and the two have been close friends ever since he worked with her on 'Experiment IV'. This time around, he contributed to two tracks on 'The Sensual World'. "'She's just a great musician, so inspired in her attitude to music. I think she's one of the greatest composers of the century in my opinion. That's another type of music that relates to my way of thinking. You can call it classical, whatever, it just takes in influences from all over. The main song I played on was "The Fog", where I played the counter melody to her vocal. I also did chord banks on another song "Heads We're Dancing". We did it in her own 48-track studio. It was all acoustic. I think it's about the best studio sound I've ever had her boyfriend Del is a great engineer.'"

It's nothing new for Erasure to cover other people's songs. They've included non-original material on several albums and even released an entire EP of ABBA songs, ABBA-esque , in 1992. Other People's Songs is, however, a bit more significant, combining a bit of cheek with some iconoclasm, a true fascination with the mechanics of songwriting and a pure, fan-based love of pop. Other People's Songs includes the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and "Ebb Tide," Buddy Holly's "True Love Ways" and "Everyday," Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love," Buggles/Trevor Horn's "Video Killed the Radio Star," Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill," and Walker Brothers' "Walking in the Rain," among others.
