Extractions: Chamber orchestra plays a Bach program at St. Luke's The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra will appear March 18 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 20 University Ave., for a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach. Every March since 1985, PACO has given three concerts featuring the works of Bach. Each program reveals Bach and his musical inspirations in each of the places where he worked or lived. The Los Gatos program consists of music a mature Bach composed while residing in Leipzig, Germany: Triple Concerto for flute, violin and harpsichord, an orchestral piece; a joyful choral number, Cantata 214 ; and chamber music selections taken from The Musical Offering . Featured soloists include flutist Greer Ellison and lyric soprano Ruth Escher. For these concerts, the guest directorsviolinist Karen Bentley and harpsichordist Jonathan Salzedohave brought current PACO members together with past orchestra members as well as other professional Bay Area musicians. Bentley is active in the Bay Area as a violinist, violist, pianist and conductor and has played throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia and Asia. Salzedo, with his wife, Marion, co-directs the Albany Consort, a Baroque group that tours in his native England as well as in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to being a harpsichord player and instructor, Salzedo also plays the piano.
