DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING THIS!!
If you do, you will be left high and dry without anything to prepare for the test with. There is no audio for the Listening Comprehension section. You can get better products in the market for the same money. If I could, I wouldn't even give it a star.

It's really not a good preparation material
The worst is that after you finish the tests, you only got the range of the results. You will never got to know the correct answer. No answer, no explanation. How worst it is!

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.
I was left without any preparation for the Toefl test because of this software. When I bought it I checked the tutorial (and the audio worked just fine unlike the previous reviews). But When I wanted to use this software to practice on the weekend before I took the test, whenever I tried to run the practice tests I got a page fault exception and I had to restart my computer.

I think it is outrages for ETS to sell this product with so many bugs.

Do not buy this software
This software has audio problem. I installed this software on my 2 homePCs (I am a Network Engineer for a Fortune 100 company). There is no audioduring Listening Comprehension section. I left a voice mail and email toETS, and they agreed that there is a problem and they are working on it asof 09/01/2000. Do not buy this.

Great book, just minor issue if you want do it by yourself
I've tried several books to get prepared for the TOEFL, most of them are focus in how to crack the technique to succeed in the exam, but this one is different and useful at the same time. This books shows you how to get great skills that builds a strong English useful not only for the exam, but for the day a day.

The only con is the lack of answer sheet, and CD for the hearing session, I know this book was thought to be used in the classroom, but as well those kinds of students would love to have some help while they are doing their homework

A Valuable Book for ESL TOEFL Teachers
I've always enjoyed teaching from King's book.The book begins with eight test-taking tactics.The rest of the book is organized by learning objectives for each of the three main TOEFL sections, listening, grammar/structure, and reading, as well as a section on the TWE.The book ends with two complete TOEFL practice tests.

I've found the exercises for each learning objective to be very innovative and different from most other TOEFL texts.For example listening objective #8 helps students avoid sight-sound confusions and provides numerous exercises where students must focus on the meaning of a sentence containing four closely related sight-sound words such as "shows," "chose," choose," and "shoes."In reading objective 1, which helps students focus on the main idea, students work through related sets of sentences to determine which one is the most general in meaning.Each set increases in length helping the student to extract generality, broader/lesser scope, and main and subordinate ideas, out of increasingly complex meaning.I will say that even with the most advanced ESL students some of the exercises in the reading section are extremely difficult.

If you're looking for a TOEFL text for your students that is different from the rest, this is it.

I don't really want to rate this book !!!
I think the book is good but you have to find the audio cassette tape and the key too. The tactic is very helpful either the content. I find it has a lot of practice but then again like I said before. I couldn't help but notice that you should have talk to company or publiher about this flaw otherwise it was not fair for everybody who purchased the book . If everyone who purchase this book have a problem I encourage you to talk to the publisher or company they have the e-mail and whoever want to buy this book it is a find book and after that I think you should contact this e-mail especially in California. []

Great grammar book!!
This book contains a great structure section which every test taker should get the full score. There are many rules in English grammar that I never realize. It helps me to improve my English grammar for the TOEFL test. In the Reading section of this book, on the other hand, it is too difficult. It is sometimes useless if the reader cannot get through it.

I hope my review can help you guys make a decision.

quality of this book
I have used this book. I think it is a good book to practice cuz it has a lot of exercises to practice(Sturcture and Reading)., but when I practice with listening comprehension section, I found out that it is more and more diffecult than the real test. I know the practice exercise should be difficult than, so it will be easy on the real test. In my view, The audio used with this book make me upset because it is 50-50North American and British accent andit is difficult to catch the words authough I tried to listen many times.In reality, the voice from the real test will clear. All in all, I think it is useless to practice listening with the unclear sound in this book. it also will make the practicer more confused. So, Let try the Longman set by Doborah Phillips. this book is unlikely to meet students' and professionals' needs and expectations, maybe because it's trying to do two distinct things at once: prepare students for the TOEFL and help readers incorporate the words into their active vocabulary.

TOEFL prep is probably best served by drill, and this book offers a useful division of vocabulary into manageable chunks.

actually incorporating vocab into your daily speech, however, is quite a different task, and this book offers little in that direction. i find both the 'conversation' and 'short talk' components to each chapter to be quite stilted and unnatural sounding--the exact opposite of the kind of model the target audience actually needs.reading a newspaper and a good novel and then discussing them with others is more likely to produce lasting vocabulary growth. ... Very useful for top TOEFL takers
I have taken TOEFL recently and scored 29 on writing section and 25 on speaking. I am very satisfied with my scores, and I can assure you that the tips you will find in this book will help you improve your scores drastically.

This books, without doubt, gives you excellent strategies for writing section. It shows explicitly how you can write better introduction and conclusion paragraphs. It also makes you accustomed to the 3-paragraph reasoning format of American students' essays. I previously scored 25 on writing section, but using the strategies in this book I improved my score by 4 points up.

The speaking strategies are very similar to the writing strategies of the book, but they give you the idea of how to approach to the possible question types you might find on the real exam.

I strongly suggest you to take a look at this book before the exam. Good luck on the test.

I used this book to prepare for the TOEFL. I loved how easy was to understand and learn the argument map. This book is excellent but not truely exceptional
I bought this book due to my new job. I teach iBT in a famous education service agency in China called New Oriental. I wanted to have a look at how Kaplan examed the new edition of TOEFL. In a word, I wanna new perspective.

This book is divided into four parts. Each part holds a point which you should exercise when you prepare for iBT. Each part, then comprises reading listening speaking and writing.

I find those examples are good because Kaplan makes it a continuum, dividing those passages into different parts. Maybe in this part, you should focus on details, in other parts, you should focus on purposes. Later, you find the all the parts turn out to be a complete passage, this time with focus on summary. I think it is helpful for students with poor English skills to have this book.

However, I don;t think this book can give you much strategy. Although it is gauranteed, however, you should know that thos strategies are just sentences besides our mouth. The just write them down as STRATEGY. Everyone knows how to do reading comprehension, they just help you figure out and clear your minds. So don't gamble on this book. What you should do is to buy it(depends on you), and practice.

Practice is what really matters. TOEFL is not GRE. Everyone who tries hard will definitely be rewarded.

bad experience
The book looks indeed smarter than others, but it's almost useless for me because it doesn't come with the CDs. All I wanted was to exercise my speaking and writing skills, I'm pretty good at reading, but since everything in the speaking and writing sections is based on a CD, the book is a huge disappointment! I've tried to purchase the CDs on-line, but they are nowhere to be found, I even checked the publisher's site. It seems the only way to get the CDs is to buy the book again and pay 72$ instead. I would do it but the company selling that edition doesn't look too reliable. So I guess I'm stuck and I can't practice any listening / speaking / writing skills! Don't buy this book if it's only to practice those skills I mentioned.

Great book for advance practice
This is a great book to sharp your skill for the iBT exam. This book have a very good structure for learning and also a lot of examples to practice at a mid to high level. So after you know the basis for the TOEFL, this book it is a great practice tool. There is one catch thou, you will need to buy the audio cd's together with the book to get the most out of it, otherwise you wont be able to practice as proper, nor get the most benefit out of this book.

Although I had a lot of experiences with many Toefl books such as Barrons, Kaplan, Longman, Ets, honestly, I haven't seen any effective book like this. I don't really know why this book is not as famous as any other one, but it is the best. The Base of this book is on incessant practices which are very prevalent to Toefl exam. Also, this book is Very precise and accurate. If anyone want to participate in Toefl exam, it will be the best and enough choice. It provides all requirements including vocabulary.

Useful to study for the exam
I found this book very useful to prepare the TOEFL exam.

TOEFL help
As I am about to coach a group in Sumatra who will be taking TOEFL I am finding this edition full of ideas.The CD's are particularly valuable as they illustrate the North American accent and speed in oral language.This is especially valuable as my 'Aussie' accent is quite different.

The CD-rom has got several problems...!
This book has got a big review but you can only practice two problem per skill in the structure seccion.The listening part does not work, for example you can't hear the last words of each conversation, the four listening seccion don't mach with the book...may be you have to guess !, and the explanation is too dificult to find.
I do not recommend this book.

If you have to purchase 1 book about TOEFL, this is it!
A good book that will prepare the paper and the computer versions of the TOEFL, include several examples and blank tests. Guide thru the techniques for narrowing your answers and getting it right. A good add-on are the Audio CD's so to get the complete exam experience, also improving pronunciation and vocabulary.

A good book
This is a good book if you want to take TOEFL practice tests but not interested in the preparation material as such. The TOEFL practice tests are really good, you will get a decent practice. I would recommend this book.

Don't buy this book if you want to raise your TOEFL score!
This book shows you what the TOEFL is llike, but it will NOT give you any deep preparation. It does not even come close to preparing you for all the material you will see on the TOEFL. The grammar is too easy, the listeningsection is mostly just a list of idioms, and some of the reading passagesare about topics that TOEFL does NOT put on their tests.

You might thinkthis is a good book because it is long, but don't think that!Most of thebook consists of practice tests--Princeton Review puts one question on eachpage (trying to simulate what the computer will look like). For example,the last 150 pages of the book are ONE test.

Finally, the CD-ROM is NOT aComputer Test. You will get only some listening practice.

Same examples over and over again
I thought this book/CD combination is definitely helpful if you are studying for the Toefl. However, two things were driving me absolutely nuts: the constant repetition of "helpful" reminders. The bookwill remind you, for example, not to waste too much time reading theinstructions when taking the test. This sentence is probably repeated100times.... The second thing are the examples themselves: should youdecide to work through the book first, and then do the CD, you will besurprised how many examples are exactly the same in the book and on CD. TheCD part is supposed to imitate a "real" Toefl exam. If you know30% of the questions, however, there is no purpose in doing the CD.
