Do not waste your time anymore
This book is full organized and full with quizzes. The tip point with This book are answers, the author give enough explanation for correct answers why they are correct and for wrong answers why they are wrong. with good logic explanation for each topic.It contains all tricks types. Your Only Guide to TOEFL
I remember when I bought this book.. it was close to a month before my actual exam.Thank God I finished the book in time and gave me enough knowledge on how to take on TOEFL.I recommend the book with CD so you can really practice and get the feel on being in a real computer exam.You won't go wrong with this book.

The book is very well-organized and offers a lot of practice. It is probably one of the best textbooks for TOEFL preparation.
It could have been rated 5-STARS but I rated it only 3-STARS because it should be clearly said that the AUDIO-CASSETTES are fundamental for the listening preparation and that the CD-ROM doesn't contain the same listening material. Good prep book
Nice prep book but can be nicer. Lot of TOEFL prep guides are available in the market. If you are mediocre in English then this book is sufficient. If you are a starter then u should try some other sources like internet, Kaplan, Princeton etc etc

Good Book
The book is good for the preparation.But it comes with audioCD.I wud have rated 5 if this book has a CD-ROM instead of audioCD.The main problem is there are no real Practice tests.But every thing is good.
I have ordered this book through ECAMPUS book store.But i didnt receive any audioCD with this.They didnt mention it at the time of ordering that..
there is no audioCD with this book.I wud have bought a new book with that same price.

this is a good book for practicing ibt test. Finish this book before you taking the test. It is useful.

Something is missing
Its very good because it offers you an important view on the exam. I have read other materials as well. They helped me with practicing but without this book I wouldn't have had an inside view on this exam.
I recomand this book to all the persons that want to take the test but I suggest them to use other materials as well. The biggest problem with this book is that they don't have an CD with full tests in order to practice on real test interface in real time.A CD with 4 full practice tests would make this book a 5 stars.

TOEFL Book
I think this book is good when it comes to improving your skills.
The difficulty is average and everybody who had learned english in school before should be abled to learn and improve.
I think it is really helpful that CD`s are added and that you can check the answers in the back.
If you try to learn the schemes and structure of notes and how to create a good outline it will make it easier for you to succeed in the actual TOEFL test. I bought this book, because it was a requirement for my college lesson but I really think it is possible to do it on your own.
As I said, if you have at least the knowledge about grammar and average voc. skills.
Somebody who corrects the written parts would help a lot.
4 Stars because I didn't learn much more. But I still improved in my writing technique und my classmates learned a lot.

Good Practice material w/ school classes.
This book provides TOEFL iBT skills which you exactly need to get.

Originally, I liked to use this series of books, "North Star," which offer basic academic skills.

I took TOEFL iBT some times, so I can point out what the advantages this book has. (It is made by not only Longman but also ETS, so it is really helpful!)

1) it provides real format of Reading section
2) step by step improving your academic skills

Though there are really good points, I might say that this series of book are not helpful when you use individually.

I think this book becomes helpful when school(classes) use it.

I gave 5 stars, but if you want to study yourself, I will recommend Delta's or CompassMedia's "mastering skills of TOEFL iBT."

Not bad
I checked this product out before buying it and found out that it has some very useful resources. I've used it for myself and for others who want to get a general idea of how the TOEFL test is, and it has proven to be really helpful.

Too few questions, software not exactly the same as in the test
I bought this item mainly because it said there was a full length test in the cd, and that the software was exactly the same as in the test. Well, after studying by the book and taking the test, my thoughts are that the ONE AND ONLY full lenght test is not enough to justify the value of the book. Also, the software is very similar to the test one, but it is NOT EXACTLY the same. Maybe the 3rd edition of this book corrected this...

I was lucky that a friend of mine who was also taking the test bought the Longman book. The Longman has a LOT of questions, divided by skills, full-tests, etc, and all questions are different. In this "Official Guide", there are ONLY the questions of the full-lenght test, and nothing else. The test is indeed complete, and has lots of explanations about what kind of answers do they look for and how do they rate the responses (in the speaking and writing parts), along with various sample answers, which are the main value of the book. The Longman just gave one sample answer for each writing question, and no sample audio to the speaking section.

But if I had to choose only one book to study for the TOEFL, I would choose the Longman because of the higher number of questions.

I cannot comment on the contents of the book itself because I barely opened it (went directly to the CD), but I can say that the questions on the book ARE THE SAME THAT THE ONES ON THE FULL TEST ON THE CD.

Good but not Enough
This is a fairly good book. It gives you the basis needed in order to step up to other books. It has the advantage of being the official guide, so everything written inside can be trusted to be correct. I suggest to make it the first book you read and then step up to a more detailed one. That said, the book is worth its money.

This book saved my life!
I waited until the last minute to take the TOEFL and used this book to cram. The section on Listening Comprehension helped me the most because that's my weakest skill. Longman Preparation Course for the TOEFL
I used this book to teach TOEFL preparation for 2.5 years abroad. While it was more expensive than Barron's TOEFL book, it was also more extensive, with more practice tests. At the time (2 years ago) it was the first and only book that I could see which was updated to the iBT test. I suppose there may be better or worse books, but the other review here gave it only 3 stars without commenting on the content of the book. I thought the CD-Rom was very helpful. It works best if you have a qualified teacher who can ultimately grade the speaking and writing part of the test. Nonetheless, in combination with a good grammar book (Grammar Dimensions) and vocabulary book (Vocabulary in Use, Barron's 500 words for the TOEFL or any other book that develops advancedvocab. for the TOEFL), this book should provide enough practice opportunities to prepare most students for the test. I believe this book works best for someone who has an intermediate or intermediate-advanced English proficiency level. If you are just a beginner or even lower-intermediate student, you will need to develop your proficiency first through other texts. The strength of this book is that it clearly explains and provides significant practice with the various segments of the iBT test.
Also, one thing you should be aware of: the book is not functional unless you also purchase the box of 8 audio CDs. Somewhere in fine print, it mentions the 8 audio CDs, but most students think that when they purchase the book and the CD ROM, they have the complete program.This is not true. This usually frustrates most students who order the book and CD ROM, thinking they have the complete set.

Now that I remember this, I would like to give this book 5 stars, but due to poor (dishonest?) marketing issue, I would give it 4 stars. The 8 cds raises the price which may be an issue for a student in a third world country where the price for importing such a text is more costly. Despite these drawbacks, I would still rate this as an fine/excellent text for preparing for the iBT.

TOEFL Books Summary
I've taken the TOEFL CBT, and got a reasonable grade of 283. Here are the book I've used, from the most important to the least one, and what I did with each one, based on other readers' reviews:
1. CliffsTestPrep TOEFL CBT:
Excellent structure section. Good Reading strategies - but for the structure part (word forms) rather then for the Reading part of the test!
It's also one of the cheapest books available.
2. Cambridge Preparation For The TOEFL Test:
Great Reading and Writing sections.
3. Kaplan's TOEFL Paper-And-Pencil, Third Edition:
A fine Listening section.
4. ETS TOEFL Test Preparation Kit, 2nd Edition:
A lot of exercises at the appropriate difficulty level (from the creators of the test themselves). However, it has only PBT test, and NOT CBT.
I hardly used this one at all.
The only book you need is CliffsTestPrep, which really helps you with the structure part, and, if you insist, the Cambridge's book for the essays, either.
Also, download the TOEFL PowerPrep software (a computerized demo test, available for free download at the TOEFL official web site, including all the tutorials you'll see in the actual test), and the list of available writing topics in the official pool from the same site, and practice them whenever you're doing a test, in-order to increase the chance that you would be given a topic you've already been written on.
You should also look for a document called 'Toefl Essay Writing Tips' - it has a lot of good (how surprising) tips to write the essay, including a comprehensive division of the essay types, and what should you do in each one.

That's it - you're ready!

This book was very helpful to me when I had to prepare for the TOEFL test, the only thing that this book needs is some CBT practice tests.

The best book available
The exercises have a tougher level than the test but if you are serious about TOEFL, you'll find that it has very few exercises.

A good practice tests book to work for TOEFL
This book was helpful for practice. It has a lot of exercises that let you get closer to the high score of TOEFL. As the saying goes "Practice makes it perfect".

Helpful Book!
By the time I bought this book, I already use Barron's TOEFL Preparation book. I bought it just to make comparison, perhaps there are something that are not covered by Barron's. In the end I find that in short ammount of time, I couldn't read and memorize all the patterns explain in Barron's. So about one or more weeks before the test I switch to this book.

This book is quite simple. The writer give you a brief explanation on how to attack some questions, then give you some exercises on how to do it. I like the vocabulary exercise. Although they're not part of the test, but it helps me alot in reading comprehension.

In the end, this book... is helpful enough for you who are already advanced in English. But the questions on structure in my humble opinion is quite easy. I correctly answers, almost all of the structure questions., eventhough I am not an advanced English user. ... Read more

very bad seller
I was ripped off. the seller mentioned that this item had cd's, but they did not work at all and one of was broken. my rate for this seller is very negative and don't recommend at all.

Horrible for reading comprehension; good CD's
This book is organized so poorly that focussing on problem areas is nearly impossible.The reading comprehension sections are horribly confusing and offer almost no practice.Furthermore, the explanations of the reading portions of the exam are page-filling, techno-babble nonsense.

On the other hand, the CD's are good for simulating test conditions.

Tough decision?

I have read several books preparing to the TOEFL IBT test.So comparing this one to the others such as Longman, 30days to TOEFL CBT, Educational KIT by ETS,Cracking the TOEFL IBT, I admit that the CD set which is going along with the book is excellent.Although, I have to note that the book itself didn't impress me very much.It was not as good as I expected it to.
Perhapas, it happened because I had installed the CD software and hadtaken some tests which were there before I opened the book itself.
Then I started to read the book.It seemed to me much easier than I expected it to be on the base of the Tests which the CD set provided.
So, totaly I'd rate the book 3.5.That's because the tests and listening part on the CDs which accompanied the book were great.
However, if I had to rate only the book I'd rate it 3.

The Kaplan TOEFL iBT helped me to score high in the TOEFL exam. The book has 8 chapter, each one with 50 pages on average, and 4 mock tests in an extra CD-ROM. I believe that if you work hard on this book for 2/3 weeks, you'll have a great chance of suceeding the exam.

The book gives you a detailed information about what to expect on the test day and you can notice your improvements as you go through the 8 chapters.

I highly recommend this book.

as the title says, this is really a great book
however it all depends if u can stick to this book and finish the whole process as the book says

Not good for other purposes
I use this book in my advanced college ESL class.My students didn't have to take the TOEFL, so I thought I would use the exercises for class.However, they are a little scattered and the answer key for each lesson in the back isn't necessarily easy to locate.I am able to gleen some extra exercises for class once in awhile, but I really wanted to use it as sort of a workbook for them to practice, but given that it isn't user friendly, I had to abandon that idea.

I have this book, and after passing TOEFL with score higher than 620, I still use it as a reference book.
