Just what I need
The best think that I like about this book was the Cd, really easy to use and good for practicing

Its a good book if you are looking for something to encourage you. but if you are really weak in English then go for something else. This book is more like an information guide to TOEFL.

I'm glad from the service. the shipping took a lot of time (since I ordered by normal shipping) but it came earlier than I expected.

So-so
You may throw off about 200 pages of this book, because this information is available free of charge on the official TOEFL web-site (tips for TOEFL). Furthermore, every person registered for the test gets a sampler free of charge. In this book this sampler is given for practice exercises. Overall, the book just describes what the test it and doesn't give any strategy. The software of the disk leaves much to be desired and there are mistakes in the answers. The advantage of the book is that it is official and authentic.

Doesn't teach HOW
I've been teaching TOEFL preparation classes with this book, and for that it is TERRIBLE. There aren't enough examples, and there's no practical or useful advise on HOW to take the test. Most of the book is just text describing the test question, a lot of which is stuff you would figure out on your own by simply looking at the test. Other books actually offer practice and exercises. There are NO exercises in this book outside of a few sample questions, and there are only three examples of each speaking task altogether. Several pages of writing topics, but barely any advise on how to actually write the thing.

SUCK - stay away
What you'll get is just a bunch of errors where you'll waste 30 mins to figure out that Kaplan messed up. Error types are questions referring to a (wrong) part highlighted, missing words in the questions that are needed to make the correct answer choice right,....,....,... AND THEY DON'T EVEN SCORE THE TEST FOR YOU AT THE END!!!!!!!SO YOU PAY , YOU GO THROUGH 5 HOUR TEST, AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT SCORE YOU GOT!!!!!!INSANEEEEE!!! Stay away from this book and from KAplan in general....they are just good marketing, 0 content....they will make you waste your time as they did with mine.

Overall I would give this book 4 out 5. It provided me with exhaustive information about how to go about preparing. I was also satisfied with the four mock question papers provided. An average English speaking student can definitely benefit from this book.

Ok, apart from the journal-like paper.
The book is ok and is what I was looking for.
The only thing that caught my attention was the journal-like paper. I wasn't expecting it.

It's filled up with drills/exercises and I really believe it will help me to achieve a better Toefl score. Since my mother tonge is Brazilian Portuguese, I had to buy a book in order to enhance my skills. I believe this book is right for me.

A very good book for TOEFL preparation. Given excellent directions how to pass the exam and precise tips. Only 1 minus - it IS iBT, you must be sure what kind of test you're going to take.

Despite all positive reviews I found this book not very helpful. I made through 1/3 of it before giving up and switching to another book. You should get this book, if you want to get successful in toefl.. It is nice.. Besides that, Barrons Essential Toefl Words book is very nice also, you should at least study this two books. But I never recomend Kaplan Vocabulary book(sthng like this)..

I really like this book because this book covers all section of TOEFL test. Actually, my English is not good enough to take TOEFL Test,so i had kept away from textbooks for TOEFL. wrong answers in the back
Overall, a good review book. However, there are a few mistakes in the answer section -- the explanation will say, "the correct answer is A because A is the only logical answer" or something to that effect and have the answer choice C (the answer before the explanation) as the correct answer.

i bought this book last month. i checked many websites and bookstores, but amazon was the best choice because of cheap, free delivery. one thing i didnt satisfy i waited three weeks to get it.

Dissapointment
Shipment was terrible, I made my firs complaint and the vendor didn't even bother to see the shipment paperwork only asked to double check with the Mail officce. After 2 visits to the post officce and 1 hour lost finally i got to find out the problem my self. No name for the shipment and two diferents address on it. finally the vendor look at my paperwork and inmmediatly requested a refun. took 1 month. I still need to shop again for my book. They say my order was wrong form Amazon. I order 2 books with the same order and same instructions. Received my first book in 4 days. I will never buy a book from them.

A good book for learning the skills for TOEFL Te
This book has lots of instructions of practical testing skills and practices. I can become more familiar with the process and question types of the TOEFL Test. For me, I think that it's one of the best books for preparing the TOEFL Test.

Pooof!
I bought this book; however, I didn't like it so much. This is only one book from a series including accounting, management, and many other subjects. I think this book is very superficial not only for that reason I mentioned but for the subjects it recovers. In fact, this book covers only some patterns for writing and speaking thats all. I don't know how that guy got 100 at the Toefl exam but this book just discuss a bit in speaking and writing. You can find many of this information in any grammar books.

Lots of exercise
I have studied only 2 weeks for the TOEFL and focused on only the speaking and writing part. I used this book for exercise purposes. I has lots of exercises and helped me improve my speaking strategy, which I have found very useful. If you have a sound background, then I think this book will give you the fine-tuning you need to score above 100 in the actual TOEFL exam. Although it contains some typos, they are not all over the entire book, and every single book has editing errors. I think this book is worth buying. As far as I know no other book out there in the market has 7 full mock TOEFL exams, which makes this book unique.

I also suggest you Speaking and Writing Strategies for the TOEFL iBT (Book & Audio CD) by Bruce Stirling for especially writing part of the exam. I think this book really boosted my score in the writing section of the TOEFL. For speaking practices, you might want to take a look at Mastering Skills for the TOEFL iBT, 2nd Edition Advanced Speaking.

By the way, I got 112 overall (Reading 28, Listening 30, Speaking 25, Writing 29). Good Luck on the exam.

Deceptive reading questions, very poor CD implementation
This is a review for the Barron's Toefl ibt book with a CD.
All in all, the book is good for preparation for the Toefl test, but no way I would give it a 4 stars even. It does cover all the sections in the test pretty good, but the difficulty level of this book is way higher than the actual ETS standart for TOEFL is. The reading passages are ok, but the questions are deceptive: some of them are actually a GRE-quality, which is way more difficult than TOEFL. As, for example, in one of the questions, you are asked to choose the word closest in meaning to "radical". The sentence in the text is as follows: "The revolution in flight required radical alteration in body form". The answer choices are: a)very clear; b)very wide; c)very fast; d)very new. Obviously this is NOT a 2 point question, and everyone knows what "radical" means. But differentiation between "very clear", "very new" and "very wide" is too much for the TOEFL test.
Also, in the listening sections, the dictors sometimes speak so fast, they're almost out of breath: not acceptable quality for preparation. And let me tell you, I am not whining here because I can not get a score high enough - I answer 92-95% of the questions correctly. And I also understand the strategy of the maker: better to be pleasantly surprised on the test, then experience a rude awakening, but it is just annoying.
Then, the CD is awful. Mine does not save my login, so every time I log in as a new user, and which is most important it doesn't save my scores in the review. The essay can only be saved in a practice mode, which is also uncomfortable. The test screen is microscopic, which is fine for the listening and even speaking sections, but staring at tiny characters for 1 hour during the reading section is no joke. Trying to see what you have typed in the essay is also a pain.
So solid 3 stars it is, not more.

The worse book ever
Don't even think about buying this book. I have wasted my time with it. There is no CD 2 and the activities always ask for it. And even worse, you can't return it because there is a return restriction for college, audio books, or any book with a CD-ROM. You will feel really disappointed with these editors.

This CD set is useless without the Barron Book, and when you buy the book the CD set comes with it. So this CD set alone is a useless purchase.

This book became an excellent tool in helping me to reach the points I have gotten in the Toefl test. Not only for Toefl but also in many moments when I needed help in my day by day studies.

It is a nice book, if you say, my writing is terrible, it will help you.. But if you say ok, preparation books writing part is enough for me, do not waste your time.. Besides that, if you want to develop your writing skill, do not forget to study Thompson Toefl Preparation Book.. it is the best in writing section..

The Book is a good choice 'coz there's a lot of tips that they provide.

This is one of the guides for TOEFL which can give you a real boost for passing the test.
Combine this with the CD and you got a good tool for the final review.

There are numerous problems with the guide for each section.
However,
You have to buy the answer key.
Also with CD for listening, speaking, and writting.

I'm now using this book to prepare my toefl test, and I've never taken toefl test before. Therefore, I'm not sure if this book is harder than the real test or not. good book but find the CD more useful
I just started using the book.It is a bit confusing since refers to some audios that I don't find in the Cd.Maybe I just need more time to get to know it better.

Best book ever written for the TOEFL test
This book is definitely the best book for the preparation for the TOEFL test in the market. That's why most (if not all!) the colleges in the US teach from this book in the TOEFL classes. I personally have used this book for preparation for the test. Before reading the tips and doing the sample TOEFL exams in the book, I barely could get more than 200(out of 300) on the sample TOEFL tests, however, after reading this book for only 3 weeks I earned a sweet 274(out of 300) in the TOEFL computer based.

Good Structure and Reading, not so good Listening
This book is good in Structure and Reading. In Listening strategies are well explained, but the tests in CD are not. People speak very clearly, and in real exam they don't. So, practice this part with Powerprep software (downloadlable from toefl.com) and you'll see the difference. However, this book helped me a lot to prepare the exam in 50 hours and got a score of 217/270.

Simply the WORST !!!
Such a waste of money! This book sucks! There are so many mistakes in it that I sometimes think that Deborah Phillips had barely graduated from high school. The strategies given in the book explain only the tip of the iceberg, they are all common sense. They explain only the basics, which are not enough to get a good TOEFL score. A must have
This is a great book if you want to take TOEFL, but more importantly it is great to bring your everyday conversation to a higher level. I highly recommend it.

Great audio CDs
I bought this for a friend, she was really happy with the contents of the course, comes well packaged, it comes with a separate folder which holds the cds, and its all wrapped in thermo plastic. Highly recommended as preparation for the Listening part of the Toefl test.

This book is the WORST book ever in my life for TOEFL.

The simplest of words , nothing more complex than intricate
This is the most useless book I have read in a long time. I routinely answer only about 50% of the readers digest vocabulary questions correctly and yet, in this book I didn't find a single unknown word.
