NOT a "study guide"
While the title of this book is "Study Guide", it is NOT a study guide.It is a collection of sample tests for each of the CLEP tests offered (some of which may not be accepted by your institution).It does give some information about how to study, but it does not give any review material, nor does it help you understand the material.

I have completed two CLEP tests to date.The first, I was coerced into taking a different (higher-level) test when I arrived for my appointment than the one I had scheduled.Fortunately, I passed it even though I had not prepared.The second, I did not pass and have struggled to find text books that cover the material on the test.

I don't think this is a horrible book, it does give you a great idea of what you will find on the test.Additionally, it would be impossible for them to recommend text books with all of the different options universities use.It is imperative that you are aware that you will need additional resources to prepare for these tests.

How to pass the chemistry CLEP-get this book for the practice test.
When the clep administrator at my institution informed me that no one he had ever given the chemistry clep to had passed, I decided to take the preparation very seriously. I began researching how other people had passed the test and ordered several materials. After 8+ years of no chemistry, my chemistry knowledge was not very good, so I had to prepare more than someone who just finished a high school chem or college intro chem course. If you are starting from scratch or just want to make sure you pass this test, then this is what I would recommend. Begin with the Wiley, "Chemistry Concepts and Problems: A Self Teaching Guide." This book is written in a continuous question and answer format that reviews and tests your knowledge to build a strong foundation of chemistry knowledge and problem solving. Then simultaneously study REA's "CLEP Chimistry," by Peel (I strongly recommend getting the book and CD with two practice tests included) with the Chemistry CLEP Professor software. You will find the REA book to be very summarized. I bought that first and felt like I needed more help. I found the CLEP Professor and gave it a try. My comprehension and retention immediately began skyrocketing, in addition to my practice test scores! The CLEP Professor follows the exact format and order of information of the book, but fills in a lot of the gaps. You may opt to purchase a general chemistry textbook to look up additional information on specific questions, but I would not recommend studying it alone to pass. There is too much information not focused for the CLEP exam that will make you forget what you need to know. You can also research anything you need to know more about online making the textbook unnecessary. I would recommend at least one month to go through these three materials. You should plan to spend about two weeks on the Wiley Self Study and two weeks on the CLEP professor and REA book together. That will give you 6 practice tests to work on. I recommend taking one practice test while you are studying the last two materials every other day. This will show you what you are learning and what you need to learn. Spend one month and about a total of $150 and you can save two semesters of time and about $2000. You should pass easily if you follow the three steps of this program: 1-Wiley Self-Teaching Guide, 2-CLEP Professor and REA CLEP Chemistry, 3-Take practice tests and look up material you are unfamiliar with. I hope you do well.

CLEP Official Study Guide Review
This is a very good guide if you want to gauge how well you might do on various CLEP exams.It does not provide exhaustive detail on all of the subject matter, but the practice exams worked for me insofar as providing me an indicator on how I might score on the actual exam.I studied 3 sections on the book:Analyzing & Interpreting Literature; American Government; and Principles of Management.In the practice exams, I scored in the 60+ range on each of the tests (on the 20 to 80 scale).In the actual exams, I scored nearly identically and passed all 3 tests.I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating CLEP exams.

this book is a complete waste of money!
This book offers nothing that the CLEP website does not. There is not one word of study material in this book. The first 27 pages are: how to take the exams, where to take the exams,and how to study. The rest of the book was small practice tests for each subject. There is zero study material in this book.

Useful But Full of Errors - Good Sample Tests
I'm giving this book three stars because it's useful but it's full of errors. I contacted REA about an errata for it and they didn't have one at the time (I created one and you can download it from 4Shared - just search for "CLEP Chemistry"; for some bizarre reason, REA refused to make an errata easily downloadable on their website - if they have one now you'll have to call or email). Nevertheless, this book was still useful to me and I recommend buying it.

I used this book in conjunction with a college chemistry textbook to pass the CLEP. If you can get past the errors, this book really helps narrow the field of study. You'll definitely still need a college chemistry textbook to go along with it for further reading or for sample problems to work. Please don't view this as an additional criticism of the book as it's unreasonable to expect that a book of this size could give you everything from a one-year general chemistry book. This book reinforces key concepts and helps you focus on what's really important.

The two practice tests in the book are excellent and were crucial to my passing score (test one is easier than the CLEP but test two is about on par with the actual CLEP test). The tests have a few errors in them but are better than the main text. You might also consider purchasing a sample chemistry CLEP test from CollegeBoard (for $10) just to have third test (I did). By the way, if you're interested, the college chemistry textbook I used was "Chemical Principles - The Quest for Insight" 3rd Edition by Atkins & Jones - the same book MIT uses for it's free OpenCourseWare. Very old material
Material in this review package is outdated.I would estimate that no more than 10% of the questions on the sample exams provided had anything to do with the actual CLEP test.Was testing out between 95-100% on this review's exam, passed the CLEP by one point. CLEP test required much more detailed information than the study guide provided.

Great Place to Start
This is a good product to start with. I have not taken any Computer Science courses before so a lot of info was new to me. I printed the guide and went over it. I also took the test and the quiz. Understanding the right and wrong answers on the test and the quiz is very important. I also found additional tests when I googled "CLEP free practice tests" and that really helped. The bottom line is if you understand the content on this CD you will do fine but you will have to google certain words as the guide doesn't go into detailed explanation of what they mean. I usually like to feel comfortable when I take tests so I studied for 4 weeks here and there (I just read the text and highlight it) with majority of studying done in the last week (practice tests).

Good Practice for CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications Exam
This was the only product I used to study for the CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications Exam.I didn't read through all of the text. I did the practice and review tests often for about a month until I felt comfortable with the material.This, plus general computer knowledge gained through working was all I needed to pass the CLEP test with points to spare.

somewhat help
The study material fill up about 30% gap in my knowledge in this field.And the practice test only help reinforce these knowledge.The actual test I took today is a total surprise, because the study material only cover 5% of it, rest of 95% of questions are on my own.
However, if you have a lot of experience in the field through your own tinkering, you couldn't quite put things into academic vocabulary, this material does help you to mode your thinking into testing mode.

this is verbatim softcopy of Brent W. Knapp's CLEP Courseware: Information Systems & Computer Applications (Volume 2) (Paperback) (ISBN 1450592724).I have no idea how Perfect Score got away with not crediting Mr. Knapp for authoring this material.if you only buy one of these items, i would go with the CDROM as the practice tests on it are useful.that being said, i bought both the CDROM and the book as it is easier for me to study from the book, and easier for me to take the practice tests on the CDROM.

bug checking on the software was inadequate.the practice test presented the same question more than once during a single practice exam (in effect giving me double credit for knowing a single answer).on more than one question, i selected the "correct" answer (according to the exam review's answer key), but that question was still counted "incorrect" by the test scoring system.

the review material glosses over topics without explaining details.the content is essentially a big list of terms you should know, and some vague clues about what the terms mean.a simple dictionary of those terms likely would have been a better preparation for the CLEP exam.i looked up a lot of terms on wikipedia in order to understand the things the review material did not explain.

BOTTOM LINE:
overall this is a valuable resource because it provides you with a list of what terms you have to know for the CLEP exam.it does *not* explain what those terms actually mean -- you will need to use wikipedia, google, or your own resources to get the actual knowledge for the test.i still recommend this CDROM because without it, you won't have any idea what is going to be on the test.

i was able to pass the CLEP IS & CA exam on the 1st try using a combination of this CDROM, Brent Knapp's book, and wikipedia.i have been working in IT for 10 years, so my own knowledge also came in handy for many test questions, but i believe you could study just those 3 resources and pass this test with no IT experience. ... It is good.

Worked for me
This is the only resource I used to study for my Principles of Macroeconmocis CLEP and I passed on my first try. That alone proves that this is a good study guide. I found the practice exams helpful, too. I am giving it 4 out of 5 because there were a few concepts that I googled to understand what they stood for, but other than that I found all the information I needed in the book.

This book won't prepare you adequately for the CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics exam
Based on reviews for the previous edition of this book, I bought it as a study aid for the CLEP Principles of Macroeconomics exam. The subject of Macroeconomics is very dense and specific vs. other exams such as Management and Marketing, for which the REA books served as a great aid. To help my studying, I also bought the official CLEP study guide for Macroeconomics and the questions are much more difficult than the REA book suggests, although it doesn't provide the much needed explanations.For those looking to take and pass this exam, there are no short cuts - one must study a text book, and truly understand the concepts of the subject, and should only use this book to reinforce something they already know very well. Good review book for Precalculus CLEP test
My daughter studied this for her precalculus CLEP test and passed it. That is why I recommend it for anybody who is looking for a review book for the precal CLEP test.

Good CLEP prep
CLEP tests are designed to allow students who have learned material in another arena to receive college credit rather than having to take a repetitive class. The purpose of a CLEP test prep book is to prepare students for the CLEP test format as well as to help them to assess if they can pass the test. College Board, this CLEP prep book, and other similar prep books recommend that the student refer to a college level textbook, in this case a PreCalculus book, in order to review or learn the difficult areas.

This book helped my son determine that the Precalculus covered in his high school class was the same material that would be covered in the college class. He discovered a few areas that needed review, he became familiar with the style of questions that would be on the test, and he successfully CLEPPED our of PreCal. Even though the purpose of this small book is not to teach all of the material covered in a college lever PreCalculus class, it easily met all of our expectations.

Somewhat helpful, but not enough.
I was very disappointed with this book.It assumes that you already know a lot of Precalculus and are just brushing up on it.The author is not very clear and there are certainly not enough example problems.Also, when there are example problems, each step is not shown.Because of this, I was left hanging several times wondering how she got from Step A to Step B.

I would probably recommend this book as a supplement to your studying, but definitely not as your main resource.Also, the practice tests seemed extremely difficult compared to the Peterson's practice questions (which seems to be a trend for all of the REA books).

Unfortunately, there are not very many study resources available tailored specifically for the Precalc CLEP exam.I was very underwhelmed, and since this is a relatively new CLEP test, can only hope that some better materials will appear in the future. ... Read more

Something Is Missing
I have been pleased with the REA books for 2 past CLEPS. This one definitely falls way short. This book only contained about 15-20% of info actually on the CLEP test. I studied this guide and mastered both practice tests. The actual test covered much more than this book did. I am very disappointed.

Another passable test from REA.
This is another passable test, the material covered is excellent.I recommend the following, before taking this test take the Intro to Psychology test and/or the Intro to Socialogy test.This test builds off of these other tests for your overall knowledge.I rank this test on par with the Human Growth and Development test.It is slightly more difficult than the first two tests I mentioned above, but still very passable and it builds off your previous knowledge.This book is what you need for this test.

About 20% useful
I'm a college professor and two of my advisees studied this book before taking the Ed Psych CLEP.They both agreed that this text was only useful for about 20% of the questions.Most questions on the CLEP test they took were not covered by this study guide, so my students were frustrated and angry over the time they had wasted studying this text.

great prep
very helpful the cd practice tests lets you see exactly what you need to review.I used it for about a week and found it prepared me well for the test, and made the test seem very easy.

Good source for CLEP
This book was a good source for the Educational Psychology CLEP. I gave it 4/5 stars because I just took both an introductory psychology and elementary statistics course at my local college last quarter.I'm not sure I would have passed this CLEP without that prior knowledge.

That aside, this book was a good study guide--but take the introductory psychology CLEP before you take this one.

I scored 59/80 on this test, which is the lowest score I've received out of the 4 CLEP's I've taken to date.I studied 1 1/2 hours per day for 1 week.

I also used the Official CLEP Study Guide from the College Board.

Clep review guide
This book is helpful for studying for Clep tests but does not have enough information to pass the test without using other sources.

A GREAT WAY TO START...
This book will show you where your strengths, and weaknesses lay for each CLEP.

It will also show you how EASY most of these test are.

I should be finished CLEP'ing my way to a four degree by 12/07.

Great place to start!
I used this book as an outline to help me study for some of my CLEP tests, and I passed every single one. This book is pretty accurate. At the beginning of whatever test you wish to take, the book gives a description of the exam, and a pretty detailed list of all the topics that are going to be on the test. I went to the library, checked out textbooks pertaining topics listed, read up on it to refresh my memory, and did example problems for each sections. AFTER all that, I worked on the exam that came with the book...kind of like a test for all that studying. It may sound like a ton of work, but I would rather do all of this in my own free time than to sit in class for a whole semester. The downfalls I find about this book are as follows: It does not include a full-lenght exam...which may be a good thing because it's short and to the point; and it does not include explanations to the questions on the exam. You have to find them on your own, but it's not hard if you have all those textbooks to help you. Don't study just from this book or any other CLEP study guides...just use them as outlines to help you study. Hope this helped!

very big help
I just took the CLEP Humanities Exam and passed - I agree that you should carefully review all questions and know all of the non answers (A, B, C and D) - this is definitely key.This book isnt going to give you the exact questions that are on the test, but is going to give you a general idea of what to expect.This book and college textbooks as well as online resources is all you will need to prepare.

Make sure you study other books along with this one
I took the clep marketing exam today. There were serveral questions on the test that were never discuss in this book. I was lucky to pass the test with a score of 57. I think only about 40% of the material was covered in the test. Dont believed all the hype. Make sure you supplement this book with another source also. Goood luck

Not a bad deal
The book shipped very fast and was in good condition when I got it. No tears of major mark-ups in the book. It did the job - I passed my clep.

Great study tool.
I studied this book, plus the Barron's Marketing Business Review book, for about three weeks. Passed the Marketing CLEP test today with a 67. This book was an easy study and was very condensed-no extra material to go over. I do recommending supplementing it with the Barron book, though. I also recommend thoroughly reading the explanations of the test answers. An excellent CLEP preparation tool.

Passed, but not with flying colors
I used this book to study for the CLEP exam. I just needed a few extra credits for graduation, but I am a Biology major and had no backround in Buisness, Marketing, etc. I found the book the be an easy read. I only had time to study it for 2 days (friday and saturday, then i took the exam on a sunday). I only had time to take one of the practice tests--I also wished I had more time to thoroughly review that because it covers material that was not discussed in the reading. It was helpful, but I think I could've done better on the exam if I had more time to study. Overall, I was satisfied. I got my 3 upper division credits, and now I'm one class closer to graduation!

All you need for this clep exam!
I studied only this book for 3 days (about 8 total hours) and easily passed this clep exam with a 71 out of 80.Most of the ideas in this book are somewhat comman knowledge - its just a matter of knowing the actual terms and definitions that are used in marketing.I also used the practice exams in the book and found them to be similar to the test. ... this book is worthless...I've bought and successfully used clep study guides by REA and Comex... they are both excellent. All CLEP study guides by Rudman are absolutely worthless. I feel like this guy is a scammer...probably a small market for these books and this guy is taking advantage of the fact no other study guides exist for this test...DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. ... CLEP Human Growth & Development
Definitely read the book if you are taking this CLEP test.I reviewed the book and did two of the three study exams, as well as a $10 prep kit from CollegeBoard.com (the test makers).As with some other people, I questioned whether I was passing the test while taking it, but I did pass with plenty of room to spare (67/80).The materials give you enough information to be able to narrow down the answers substantially.Make sure to study the explanations for ALL of the answers (even the ones you got correct) to the sample tests, as these help you solidify multiple concepts per question (and often provides small keys to differentiating the terms).

Study hard
I studied I passed.This book is a good resource this clep is a tough one however.This was my eighth clep and I don't know if it is the wording or choosing the best answer when two options looked plausible,but I was not confident I passed till I saw the score.I suggest using this book and firm up your knowledge of researchers such as Piaget, Kohlberg, Freud, Pavlov and Erikson then you should have a great chance of passing.I hope this helps.

Look elsewhere!!
The three "tests" that come with the software have questions that are not even covered in the book!I had no idea where 50% of the questions on the practice tests even came from.Why they would include material on their tests that they do not even address in the review guide is beyond me.Anyway- do not waste your money!!You study and study the chapters, and when you try to take the tests you have no idea where half of them came from.

OUTSTANDING PREP GUIDE FOR DDST(DANTES) LIFESPAN DEVELOPMENT AS WELL AS HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT CLEP
I actually used this book to study for the military's CLEP call the DANTE'S (DSST). It's a good study guide. I made sure I read the book the first 2 days and then studied the questions for only a week. I took the test and PASSED with flying colors. In order to pass though you Definitely need to get down everything in the book such as Piaget's theory, Kohlberg's moral development theory, Erik Erikson's theory, and Frued's theory. Also make sure you get down classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. Get down research methods (case study, correlational, cross-sectional, experimental, longitudinal, observational). There was also a question about Lev Vygotsky who is not covered in the book. The test deals most with child development; I would definately recommend doing your own internet research if you need futher explanation or examples. BUT THIS BOOK IS AN AWESOME GUIDE. To build off of. Like I said I only looked over this book about an hour a day for a whole week. It was a great deal of help.

saved a grand
Thanks to this book I do not have to take a human growth and development class saving me a thousand at least. To get the best use of this book you should first take test one review the answers to all the questions then retest on the ones you missed until you eventually get them all correct. After that read the 13 chapter study guide. Then take test two and repeat the cycle reading the study guide after taking each of the three test for a total of three times. Then before the actual test take the official practice test to see how you do to make sure you can get the score you need so you do not waste your time taking the test. ... Read more

Comex English Composition Study guide
I purchase this item as new, when it arrived it had pen marks all over. I could have requested an used copy but I paid for a new one and that is not what I got.

CLEP Companion Material
Excellent companion material to the official CLEP guide. Dteailed explainations to practice problems - written in "mini" text book format covering the subject matter and not only test questions.

CLEP round 2
I attempted the Eng Comp I & II CLEP last October and had studied primarily from this workbook.I was very reasured after working through all the exercises and tests of this workbook that my CLEP would reflect the high scores.It did not.I scored 49 and did not pass.The actual CLEP was an order of magnitude greater in difficulty than the workbook and indicated to me that I was not adequately prepared.I am a 3.85 student, study intensely, and have many professors with degrees in English ask if I write professionally.Although this does not qualify me for anything other than a probablility of passing the CLEP, my expectations to perform exceptionally well was high.

I am planning to take the test again and my strategy this time is to study from several different sources which, perhaps, was my mistake previously, but quite honestly, I was very confident from working the exercises in this book that I would have no worries with the actual test.Best wishes to all looking to CLEP, as it is indeed a challenge not to be underestimated, no matter how great you percieve your ability to achieve.

Good review material
I reviewed the material included for approximately one week and passed the test with a score of 66. I found the actual examination to be more difficult than the practice exams. I was able to complete the practice exams in a fraction of the time allotted, but almost ran out of time when taking the actual CLEP.

Great review material for the CLEP
I haven't attended college in 12 years; I purchased this book and studied it for approximately 2 weeks, took the Freshman English Comp exam without the essay and passed with a 68.I would highly reccommend this book for the CLEP but you do need to review the material and utilize the practice exams.Good Luck! ... I passed my CLEP!
I studied for the Western Civ II CLEP using only this book and got a score over 60! It has a lot of information condensed into a short book. There is one typo in Practice Test 1 Answers, but it is clarified in the explanation of answers.Excellent!

Different from all other REA books, will NOT help you pass.
Studied the book thoroughly, got 55 and 52% on REA tests in this book, then took an OFFICIAL CLEP test and got only 44%.Took the actual test and didn't pass; got only a 47%almost nothing covered in REA book was on the questions.If anything you need an additional textbook to study with to be able to pass.All the other REA books so far got me through but this one didn't.Sorry REA, you need to go into more detail for this test...

The CLEP Western Civilization II book is a significantly summarized version of events from 1648 to present.Containing just 136 pages of reading material, it does offer two practice exams at the end containing 240 questions.I've always had an interest in history and possess a fair knowledge of events and time-lines.The CLEP test was very difficult; I received a barely passing grade of 54.I actually thought for sure I failed, due to frequent guessing!I Recommend this summary be read first, then go on to another textbook for supplemental information.

This book was very helpful. I also watch a lot of the History Channel! Use the College Board's CLEP Official Study Guide, 17th Edition it helps. The practice tests will let you know what to brush-up on. I scored a 63.

Best thing out there , yet not enough.
If you are planning to take this exam, make sure you have a solid text book as your primary means of preparation. Unlike most REA books, this book alone WILL NOT provide you with enough info to pass the exam.I took the CLEP Western Civilization exam this morning and even though I passed, I have to say that this is a difficult exam. I recommend "Western Civilization : Volume II: Since 1500 (with InfoTrac) (Paperback)
by Jackson J. Spielvogel (in addition to the REA book) also, The prep questions included with this book ( while somewhat helpfull) were misleading in that the actual test questions were much more complex than the ones provided in the book.
