5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely Organized
I love how the subjects are divided into short sections and have quizzes at the end (with good explanations for the answers, too). I think that this method of "read and review" is the most effective way to retain information. In addition, each chapter is divided into even smaller sections with a specific header and key words are put in bold, making it even easier to find and sort through information. This helps you prepare for the essays in that it gives you specific ideas to include in your essays (memorizing the bold words helps), which the AP examiners love. However, you won't truly be prepared for the AP test until you make charts for each civilization with the changes every time period and all that. The Change Over Time and Comparative essays were definitely a weak point for me, but I still managed to get a 4 on the test with the help of Barron's review book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helping my Son ace the exam
More help for a great son! These exam aids are great if used, and assist good students in getting a 4/5 on the AP Exam!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great study tool
This is a great tool to get an overview of everything that will be on the Ap exam, since textbooks have too much information to possibly remember at once and tend to go into unnecessary details. The Barron's book provides a good and detailed summary of every time period and lists economic, social, and political developments that are necessary to know for the essay portion of the exam. It also provides good sample multiple choice questions in its practice exams, though its essay topics are definitely not like actual essay questions. However, the book still offered me a comprehensive and detailed summary of all topics covered on the test without going into extra detail. I got a 5 on the AP test =]

3-0 out of 5 stars Barrons' doesn't cut it for the AP World exam but OK if you're taking the class
I had to purchase this review book for my AP World History class. My teacher had us highlight and write themes on the side throughout the year. Although i really wanted it to be the ideal book for the exam, it was far from it. The review is crowded together with so many details that will distract you from the key points that you actually need to know. The review questions are too easy as well and don't really require the analytical thinking that you need to do well on the exam.

The one positive thing that actually gets it an average 2.5/5 stars is that I used it a couple of times as a reference book for the class. But then again, isn't that what a textbook is for?

So overall, if you're looking for a book to review for the AP World History exam I would suggest looking for another book. 5 Steps or Princeton Review should do the job :)

3-0 out of 5 stars More of a textbook if you ask me
This book is very very lengthy and i felt it wasn't any better than my regular book in class. I was a bit disappointed because some of the information it covers are really unimportant for the test. One thing i like is how they have these little quizes after each chapter so that was nice to refresh my memory every time. Also i liked the example essays because it really showed me how to write a good one. Overall, this review book is above average but i would stick with something else. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good compact review, but weak on practice problems with fully-worked solutions
This book focuses on the subset of first year calculus topics needed for the AP exams, and it provides comprehensive coverage of those topics. It also includes an Appendix on the use of TI calculator models 83, 84, 86, and 89. A graphing calculator (only certain models are allowed) is now required for the AP Calculus exams.Compared to other preparation texts covering similar AP calculus topics, this book is relatively short, running less than 400 pages.

This brevity is achieved primarily in two ways, one is by providing explanations that are quite concise. Those with solid calculus backgrounds will appreciate this brevity, particularly if they need a text for a final quick review before the AP exams. Others will likely find themselves wanting more detailed explanations and solved problem exemplars.

The second way concerns problem sets. There is a relative dearth of problems with fully detailed solutions, compared to other AP preparation texts, e.g., "Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2009 Edition" which at 870 pages is over double the size of this text.

Its major weakness is that many of the "fully worked" problems skip important steps. As an example, in problem 24, page 103, the derivative of tan (theta), although a required step in the solution process, is not presented. The geometric/trigonometric steps required to obtain its value in this problem are also skipped. Only the problem-specific value is given in an equation leading to the solution.

The introductory chapter on "Exam Format, Grading, and Tips", although short, is quite helpful. Another useful feature is the occasional aside that explains, for the example presented, the common mistakes that are often made in solving problems of a similar type.

As with some other calculus and AP calculus preparation books, there are errors of omission in word problems involving dimensions. For these problems the authors use 'pure numbers' during the problem solution phase, leaving off dimensions until the final solution. This means there is no check that the final dimensions make sense, or that the problem is solved correctly. The use of pure dimensionless numbers can make work 'cleaner', but it may also mask wrong answers, and it always means that an additional check on the validity of a solution is missing.

In summary: No single preparation text will satisfy all readers. If your calculus background is relatively solid and you need a concise review book this is a reasonable choice.Although the price appears inappropriately high considering the book's relative size, and competitive publishers' discount pricing. If you need more detailed explanations, or lots of practice problem sets with fully-worked solutions, other more substantial AP preparation texts, such as "Cracking the AP Calculus..." mentioned above, will likely prove a better value.

Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam

An excellent, superb document. Someone, diligently using this text can only "ACE" the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
This is an excellent resource for teachers and students to use throughout an AP Calculus course.Well-written, free from error, and well-priced!Invaluable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best AP Calculus Review Book
This review book goes over everything you need to know for the AP Exam. It is easy to read and describes everything you need to know, step by step. It provides questions after every chapter with full answers that detail how to arrive at the correct answer. The practice exams are also extrmely accurate and helpful to get a 5 on the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best study guides for AP Calculus
Let me preface this by saying that I took the AP calculus test in the mid 1980's and now have helped my daughter with a self-study course on calculus in preparation for the 2007 test. After going through a total of 4 study guides, 2 textbooks, and the last 7 years of available free response questions from the actual AP test, I found this guide to be one of the best AP calculus preparation books.

The AP calculus (AB or BC) has become considerably harder in the last 4 years. Most other books seem to have been developed for the test as administered in the 1990's.In order to pass, not only do you need to know your calculus - it is also mandatory that you know how to use your calculator in order to solve calculus problems. Most other books, completely ignore this point (see my other reviews).Rather than focusing on techniques of integration (which was a big deal for the earlier test in which calculators either weren't allowed or weren't capable), the emphasis has switched to integration via the calculator.
This book addresses the issue clearly.

One last point of advice is that this book does stress the concepts that are in turn stressed on the current tests - fundamental theorem of calculus, average value of a function by integration, and problems thatdepend on interpreting graphs and data points.

When chosing a book, keep in mind that the test is no longer a simple can you integrate and take a derivative by hand type of exam.If you can solve the problems in this book, you indeed will be prepared for the AP test. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty awesome
The book had everything I needed and more to score a 5 on both sections of the test. It has wonderful explanations of all the topics and goes well in-depth so that you're not missing any information or practice by the time the AP test rolls around.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible book, not worth any time or money
I got this book for some practice tests before the AP exam.HUGE mistake.

First of all, the questions were nothing like what was on my test. The questions went way to in-depth for what I needed on the AP.

Second, for the questions that were somewhat realistic, the explanations for the easy ones stretched on for paragraphs, while the explanations of the difficult problems were generally 2 sentences or less. The practice tests were not helpful.

Finally, there are a noticeable amount of errors. For example, on question 13 of the mechanics section on the first practice test, the explanation says that the magnitude of one value is less than the magnitude of another value because the first value is negative. If you know anything about physics, the magnitude of any value can never be negative.

I took this test last year and got a 5 on both Mechanics and E & M.That being said, I don't believe it had anything to do with my purchase of this book (since I used it for only about an hour of practice). The majority of my practice came from the old free response questions off the college board website.

In my experience, Barron's has been the least helpful test prep book, and I have taken 8 AP exams in Foreign Language, Math, History, Science, and English.I would not recommend Barron's test prep books for any AP test taker.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you just want a 5, don't get this book.
Do yourself a favor and don't get this book if all you want is a measly 5 on the AP Exam. Getting 5's are easier than actually really Learning for good.
You will spent countless hours trying to swim through a sea of wonderful information that the AP exam will not even dare touch. I bought the Princeton Review one and the Barrons book and was repelled quite quickly by the Barrons. Buy the PR book. This book is probably great for college physics though and I would recommend it for that. Also great if you are somebody who loves to explore beyond the required material for the sake of learning. Trust me if you know this book, getting a 5 is the last of your concerns.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review book, but way too detailed
I believe this book is good for people who know very basic ideas of Physics C topics. If you know the topics pretty well, but just need a refresher, don't buy this book. The explanations in this book are more detailed than my textbook (Tipler's Physics for Scientists and Engineers). For example, I just wanted to review Simple Harmonic Motion and the various equations that go with it. I found myself more confused with the book going into many different equations for k-effective. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it!
I made the mistake of not reading reviews when I brought this. After wasting 2 weeks trying to understand this, I quit and bought the REA AP US History book. That provided me with a thorough review of all the topics covered on the exam. I got a 3. However, if I had started that book earlier, I am sure I would have gotten a 5. All Barron's does is tell you how to write essays. It is complete crap.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Those Who Know Their Stuff
This is exactly what I would look for in a review book for AP US.I feel that too many students are looking for "quick fixes" and "one-stop location for AP US History: the essay, the actual history, the multiple choice."Well, there is no shortcut to learning history, whether listening to lectures, reading Brinkley, taking notes from AMSCO.No one can force you to learn all that history in a week or two, especially not Barron's.Let's face it, if Barron's US History was like Barron's AP Chemistry, would anyone sit through it? I think I'd go back to Brinkley.

This review books concentrates on honing your essay and multiple choice skills, while giving you a brief overview of each important era. Moreover, the timeline in the appendix is really dandy when you're trying to remember the order events.

I RECOMMEND this book if you need to finetune your skills and need some extra practice. This is book is NOT RECOMMENDED for those of you who use this as a last ditch effort. Moreover, those with a weak will (heavy procrastinators!) should not buy this book.It is helpful to brainstorm the FRQ's with your friends on a rainy day.Write down what you brainstormed, and then the week or so before you take the test, look over the FRQs you guys did together. It'll help jog your memory.

There was a jarring typo on one page in a multiple choice about inventions.Otherwise, it was a great book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great shipping, BAD BOOK
The shipping and condition were great...but the book itself. not so much

I wanted an AP US book that gave me course material (i.e review chapters)
but this book was a compilation of essays with NO COURSE REVIEW
i returned it, because i didn't even use it after i flipped through the pages once

2-0 out of 5 stars Offers little more than practice questions
I, too, was very disappointed with this book. In the past, I have been quite impressed by Barron's, mostly because of the comprehensive subject reviews their books offer. This book, however, offers no such thing. A majority of the book is taken up with poorly written practice questions and even worse explanations that do little to further one's knowledge of US history, nor one's preparedness for the AP test. Its only redeeming feature is a section at the end which contains timelines and brief information on major developments from each time period arranged chronologically. Even this, however, contains little more than event names with their corresponding dates. If you want to be truly prepared for the AP test, I HIGHLY recommend "United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination," by John J. Newman and John M. Schmalbach and published by Amsco.

Overall, this Barron's AP US History book is a waste of money. Stick with Amsco for APUSH, and use Barron's for other subjects, such as AP Chemistry.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bogus
This book is horrible! I thought I could use it to study for my history test, but when I opened it, I realized that all this book did was tell you how to do well on the test and other bogus junk - things that you should know if you have already taken an AP Test. This book was of NO HELP. Such books need to have review of history - this book barely had any. The only review it had was explaining the sample questions it provided. Sure it sounds like its helpful but its not because that topic is not the ONLY thing that is going to be covered on the test. The princeton version is better - even though it says "Cracking the AP US HISTORY EXAM," it has some hints, but mainly summary - what is mainly needed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Tool!!!!
I used this to self-study for the AP US Government exam. I know if I had read this book cover to cover, I would have excelled on the test. Still, the book was an enormous help to me. In the back of the book are the important Supreme Court cases and a glossary, among other things. I highly recommend this book! Good luck studying!

4-0 out of 5 stars Prepares well
This book prepared me well for the AP exam so I would and did recommend it to friends. Cliffnotes makes a great study tip but be warned of the mistake in the court case review. It's Map Vs Ohio not Illinois. But that's the only draw back.

5-0 out of 5 stars An "Almost Perfect" Review Book for the AP U.S. Government Test
This 356-page book was written in the traditional narrative style of CLIFF NOTES and READER'S DIGEST condensed books. If the large over-sized fonts were reduced to standard and if the empty white spaces were eliminated, the contents would have been condensed to 256 pages. This made the information very manageable for studying.

The vocabulary and writing style were simple enough for a high school sophomore or junior to handle. Also, the information was very well organized and concise. As an example, let us exam the chapter on the U.S. Constitution. The ten pages summarized and condensed 37 pages of GOVERNMENT IN AMERICA, the standard text used in high school AP Government classes. Basic information with a sprinkling of details and updated examples was covered. Subtopics were sectioned off, and important terms and vocabulary were bold printed for the reader to focus. After the topic discussion, there was a 15 multiple-choice question test. The questions were constructed in the same style as the items in the actual AP test. Following these exercises were three sentence explanations on each of the answers. All in all, the format as described above was used for all other chapters that followed.

After the subject reviews, there were two sample practice tests. Again, the multiple-choice answers were explained in detail. More impressive was the author's treatment of the Free-Response Section. On each of the essay questions, he provided scoring guidelines, sample essays, and analyzes of the written works.

Appendixes were located at the end of the book. These contained a glossary of key terms, a copy of the U.S. Constitution, a listing of important U.S. Supreme Court cases, and an eight page listing of internet sources.

My only criticisms of this book focused on the second and third items in the Appendixes. Instead of a copy of the U.S. Constitution, a better alternative was to provide an annotated and simplified version. This document was very hard to understand with its 18th Century prose and "high level" vocabulary. Fortunately such a simplification does exist. It islocated in the latest Compton Encyclopedia under "Constitution." Secondly, the U.S. Supreme Court case listing needed to be better organized. The cases should to be individually grouped by Constitutional issue and sub-grouped by whether they expanded or limited the specific civil liberty.

As a suggestion, buy Pamela K. Lamb's 5 STEPS TO A 5 AP U.S. GOVERNMENT & POLITICS to accompany Soifer's text. Instead of a narrative approach, the contents was arranged in outline format. In other words, the information presented in U.S. GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS was further condensed in outline form by Lamb. This arrangement made it easier for studying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another great Cliffs AP prep book
This is another great Cliffs AP book which will help you get your college credit. It really is a help for reviewing the branches of the government, how a bill becomes a law, the Constitution, the amendments, elections, and civil rights. Those are the main, "must know," topics you need to review to get a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
Paul Soifer strikes again with his gorgeous portrait of the US Government, and preparation for the AP exam. I think I met Paul one time, albeit not for long, and he sold me on the book. I then took the book and have studied with it. I am assuming I will get a 5 on the test. Doc, This buds for you! ... Read more

Good for last minutes studying before AP exam, and for reviewing details that are not taught in the classroom.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK Book for Practice Tests; no review
This A.P. preparation book is not the best book I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I only purchased this book as a sole review shortly before the test and was disappointed. The practice tests in the back are great and there are four full example tests, therefore, I must give them some credit. Overall, would not recommend this book as a primary resource for studying.

2-0 out of 5 stars this book is an awful review
Being a cliffs study guide, I thought this book would be helpful, but it is NOT.I had to get another book that would actually help. The book just lists important names and places, and rarely explains them, resulting in you having to look up in the textbook all of the answers. It was worthless. The end multiple choice part was fine though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent When Used with other AP Reviews
Although this book lacked depth of information when reviewing history, the tips on the multiple choice section and how to write the essays was fabulous. The practice tests were very helpful to me because I used this book to skim through the material, to look at the terms and to make sure I knew what those terms were (even though they were not defined). The tests will help you know how to deal with the real test.I used this review book with the one by REA and the Princeton Review, and found it very helpful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for practice tests, no review
I expected more out of the cliff notes ap us history book. Upon opening the covers of the book, There were key terms and definitions, HOWEVER, the review itself was not helpful (no real review)! The only reason that i could ever imagine why anyone would buy this book is for the 4 practice tests at the back of the book.

    Dont Buy this Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, If you are an ambitious student and are hoping to earn a '5' on the exam, then listen to my advice... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Biology Practice Exams
I am not sure what this is about, the contents or Amazon's service but here goes:

The book is just what it says, practice questions with excellent suggested answers, so that students can compare with their own pathetic attempts (I'm a teacher you may have guessed). It is American so not totally for the UK system - but I knew that when I bought it.I find many US books better for my students because they give such good clear answers for the struggling exam sitter.

The delivery was terrific, well within the time I was told to expect and the book was in good condition - well I expected that cos it was new!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Review for AP Bio
This is a good resource for reviewing for the test--loads of multiple choice questions and free-response questions, with answers explained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Beneficial
I could not believe that a whole book of practice exams existed. It truly helped me get a 5 on the AP test. Some of the tests were extremely hard, but the others were basically the same level as the real test. Studying Barron's AP review and this practice exam book will guarantee not just a passing score, but a 4 or 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet
These Practice Exams will really get you ready. My son got college credit for both semesters of Biology. As a Zoology major myself, I was impressed with the brevity yet thoroughness of these exams. They really helped him get ready. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very strong
I've been studying for the AP Human Geography exam using this and know it is helping. It rephrases what my teacher says in a way that I can understand and has excellent practice questions....definitely recommend to others. Also, it has lists of websites that are good to use for class research.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I am writing this review from Europe, where I am self-studying for several AP exams (my parents are on assignment here). This book is a great fit for anyone wanting to do well on the AP exam...It is filled with great summaries of the course info and is actually interesting to read...not dry.But the goldmine is in the practice sections--memory quick checks, and loads of simulated AP questions. You can pop the CD in your laptop and practice with timed tests, too.I use this along with the Rubenstein textbook--together I feel I am going to do well on the AP exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I bought this for my daughter--she reads her textbook along with this review. Her grade has jumped 15 points in her AP class! The book is just the right length for my teen and has some fascinating facts spread throughout the book.In fact, I find myself reading the book, too, just to learn about this unique topic. My daughter also likes the mini-quizzes in each chapter and the practice AP test questions.I think the strongest feature of the book is the fact that it is written with the student in mind; it is a great companion to this AP course.DEFINITELY the right choice for my daughter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent prep book
This is an excellent book for preparing for the AP human geography exam.It puts everything you need to know together into an easy-read book, full of practice questions and mini quizzes to ensure one will succeed on the real test.I am self studying this class, and this has been and will continue be a huge help.I am not worried at all for this test with this excellent prep-book. Highly recommended.I have Barron's as well, and not only is this book easier to read and formatted better, but it seems to provide much more needed information than Barron's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great help!
This book has really helped me with my AP class. It is written in a way that explains the key ideas in the course and has great practice questions and review drills. The practice exams are tough but good practice....I like that all questions are explained so you can learn from the practice.Definitely recommend it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars it's fine
Great book for quick prompt before exam; however, the book doesn't cover some important deatail that will be in the test.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked
My student got a 4 on the exam, thanks to this study guide. (not the teacher)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good vocab review, works so well with the text.
As another reviewer mentioned, the best way to use this book is to read the chapter review in the prep book along with the text book.I sit there and flip through both books, mainly so I can look at the diagrams in the big textbook.Diagrams are truly what helps the material stick in my head, and unfortunately this test prep book is lacking in them.but it doesn't matter because the diagrams in the big textbook are truly amazing.

Anyway, I like the format of this prep book because it makes learning tiny facts and vocabulary words very easy. Its shaped like an outline, so its already organized for you (and very easy to make flashcards from).

The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is because of the practice exams. The first practice exam in the book is EXACTLY like the already released AP biology multiple choice exams. They just paraphrased and reworded the questions, but left exactly the same concepts. For example, on the first question they give u a graph and ask what the carrying capacity is.IN the official exam its 500 or something.IN the prep book, they changed the graph so its 800. SO my teacher let us take the released official exam in class. Then I went home and was practicing with this book, so the practice exam wasn't helpful. But, for some people who don't have access to the released multiple choice exam, it might not be a problem

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC
THIS IS THE ONLY BOOK I USED TO STUDY FOR THE AP BIOLOGY EXAM.IT IS REMARKABLY SUCCINCT AND TO THE POINT PROVIDING YOU WITH WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great help!!
I love this work book! I was really helpful come crunch study time for the AP exam. If you use it along with the newest text book edition it will also really help. good simple review for the exam also acts very similar to the actuall AP exam. I also help me in my AP class. If I didnt have time to read a chapter a night, I would read the summary in the work book. And before an exam on mulitple chapters instead of rereading 50+ pages and doing 75 odd questions to study, it was better to go over the summary in this book. then if you dont understand somethign go back to the text book and read that section over. The answers with explanations really help too. Highly reccomend this book for an AP bio class and for the AP bio test. ONly flaw is that doesnt really help if you dotn have the text book to go with it and that doesn't have as many diagrams as it should. OVerall fantastic resource! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked!
I got this book about two months before the AP English exam to self-study for the AP test. This book helped me immensely to familiarize myself with some of the rather different requirements and focuses of the AP test. I did not have time to do all the drills in the book, but still managed to score a 5. :) I am quite positive that I would have scored a two or a three without this book. The book focuses almost exclusively on the writing portion of the exam-exactly what I was looking for. About half the book was devoted to the English Language test, and the other half to the English Literature test. (I didn't use the English literature portion of the book, so no review for that part.) The book does an excellent job of explaining the format and preparing one for what is on the test. I highly recommend it!

This is an excellent review workbook for AP English writing exams. As a high school AP teacher, I am using this as a textbook in my junior and senior English classes with much success. The text is easy to read and very visual; that is, important points are highlighted, while activities are clearly noted with eye-catching icons. Most importantly, information found in this text is accurate and pertinent.Topics include modes of discourse (narration, exposition, etc.), rhetorical strategies and devices, in addition to vocabulary work, rubrics for scoring, etc. Adequate explanation and practice activities are provided, as well as sample student essays and AP exam questions. HIGHLY recommended for both students and teachers alike! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for any preparing for the AP Calculus exam
The latest review tests - some eight full-length AP practice exams in all for Calculus AB and Calculus BC - offers the latest subjects and test topics and includes two full-length practice tests on CD-ROM. This does more than provide test structures: it offers extensive subject reviews of all test topics and calculus applications, making this a 'must' for any preparing for the AP Calculus exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book will take you into the weeds
Having performed well in calculus at an Ivy League school a few years ago, I purchased this book to brush up on my math and am sorely disappointed.I think the majority of the practice problems are too difficult and are just taking me into the weeds.Yes, difficult problems can be nice to know how to solve, but only AFTER you've mastered the basics.I got the basics in college and am NOT getting them from this book.

If you have some free time and want to practice more advanced problems, this book may be for you.But if you want to focus your studies on practicing problems that reinforce the basic concepts of calculus, don't waste your precious time or money with this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product
Ths is a good product. The CD is nice to help you with a practice test. This is the book that my teacher recomends. This is a good resource to help a studet prepare for the AP Calculus exam.

3-0 out of 5 stars calc AB student
This book has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it has an incredible amount of practice problems (organized by chapter) and is well organized in that topics and practice problems specified for "just BC students" are well marked(However, arc length is on the AB syllabus, not just BC as this book says it is). The book also provides four practice tests for both AB and BC, more than you will find in any other Calculus prep book.

However, many of the practice problems found in the "end of the chapter practice problems," as well as in the practice tests, are not representative of questions that have come up on previous AP exams. In my AP Calc class, we did every college board released multiple choice section since 1978 as well as every free-response question given in the past 10 or so years. Though the practice tests given in this book are okay, and will provide good practice, it is evident Barrons did not do enough research into the AP Calculus exams themselves. Many of the problems (though not all), are either too difficult, or simply too different from questions that you will actually encounter on the AP test to be very helpful.

I gave this book three stars because it CAN be helpful if used as extra practice-- as a supplement to any in-class preparation. However, I strongly discourage purchase of this book if you 1. don't have a good foundation for most of the calculus topics or 2. aim to self-study for the exam. As already noted in previous reviews of Barrons AP Calc prep books, their subject review is hard to understand, muddled with confusing language-- Barrons simply makes no attempt to simplify their explainations. Furthermore, their "answers explained" sections at the end of practice problem sections and practice tests are short, often only one sentence long, rendering them useless most of the time.

The last complaint I have for this book is that Barrons provides no "AP scoring chart" for you to self grade and find your corresponding AP grade (1-5) at the end of a test. Granted, the other calc prep books I've looked at don't either, but it's an annoyance to not know where you stand after taking a practice test for 3 hours.

For those looking for better topic review, I would try Peterson's "Master the AP Calculus AB and BC" book. I hear the authors review is simplified and easier to understand for someone not so familiar with the material. For those who are familiar with the material and who want extra practice, this book isn't half bad, it is well organized and has unlimited practice problems--just don't get scared off by some of the tougher problems. The best practice, however, is past AP exams. Ask your teacher/school if they have any of them; if not, they're available on collegeboard. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great prep book!
The Princeton review prep book for ap physics c has been very helpful. As a high school student taking ap physics c, this prep book simplified the hardest concepts into easy to understand words. However, sometimes the material may be too broad and not too in depth. Therefore, if you are looking for a supplement to a textbook, this is the choice for you. If you are looking for in depth, but harder practice tests, then go barron's.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this to prepare for AP-C physics; it covers areas not in the SAT physics book!
My son has taken both the SAT Subject Test in Physics and the AP Physics C exam this spring. We got a study guide for each, since the SAT Subject Test covers some information that is not on the AP exam.

But it would not have been enough to get just one book; he needed the AP book for the level C test, since it involves use of calculus (unlike the SAT Subject Test and the B level AP test). We don't have his scores yet, but he thinks he did well and found both Princeton Review books to be helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars All I Needed For the Test
This book was a cheap way to get prepared for the AP Physics Test. It doesn't have as much info as a real textbook so it's not as interesting, but it has all you really need and presents it pretty clearly. ... Read more
