Extractions: for SAT and PSAT/NMSQT Pasadena ISD is giving its students a chance to prepare for college by offering preparation classes for the Scholastic Assessment Test and the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Both preparation classes for the SAT and PSAT/NMSQT will be offered in building B of the Tegeler Career Center, 4949 Burke, in Pasadena. The SAT and PSAT/NMSQT classes are being offered several times during the school year. The cost is $35 either class and students must register with their high school counselor. Seminar times are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for Day 1 and 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. for Day 2. The dates for the SAT preparation classes are as follows: * May 10, 17, 2003 The SAT is for students preparing to go to college. Most colleges and universities require the SAT along with the American College Testing (ACT) Program test. The test allows students to compare academic preparation and aptitude with more than two million other students, who take the test yearly.

Strategies for answering the reading comprehension questions are presented in depth. Intensive vocabulary development is also featured. Students become familiar with the most commonly tested words on the SAT and PSAT. When to guess, and how to score and interpret test results are a few of the many issues addressed. Through practice, students gain the confidence that enables them to perform at their highest level. Some may also improve their math scores. The instructor, Roberta Wolman, has been successfully preparing students for the SAT and PSAT since 1975. She is a full-time reading and learning specialist and a study skills expert.
