Extractions: College Level Examination Program General Information List of CLEP Examinations Registration Information CLEP Examinations give students an opportunity to earn college credit for prior knowledge in certain subject areas by taking an exam in that area. The official CLEP website, www.collegeboard.com/clep provides potential candidates with a variety of helpful information about the CLEP program, the examinations, and study guide materials. CLEP Examinations are conducted in the RVC Assessment Center on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month (schedule is published by semester). Testing times alternate, with sessions offered at either 1:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Exams are 90 minutes in length and computer-based. RVC is an "Open CLEP Testing Center". We offer all exams at each session and a CLEP candidate does not have to be an RVC student to take exams in the Assessment Center. Total costs include: a nonrefundable registration fee of $15.00 (check to RVC) due with all registration materials no later than seven (7) working days before a test date and a $50.00 fee per test to CLEP (paid on test date-check or money order only). Western Field Office CLEP College-Level Examination Program The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States today, helping students of all ages earn college degrees faster by getting credit for what they already know. By receiving a satisfactory score, you can earn from 3 to 12 college credits toward your college degree for each CLEP you take, depending on the exam subject The Western Office of ETS, located in Oakland CA, offers the CLEP tests Mondays and Tuesdays, at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The cost for each test is $46.00 payable to "CLEP", and may be paid by check, money order or credit card. A separate test center fee of $12.00, payable to "ETS", is also required. You may schedule an appointment to take a CLEP exam at the ETS Western Office by calling 510-873-8100 between 8:15 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. As space is limited, please allow 2-4 weeks to schedule an appointment. Your test score(s) will be received by your institution 2-3 weeks after your test date.

Each educational institution determines it own policy regarding which CLEP tests it accepts, the minimum scores required to earn academic credit, and the amount of credit awarded. Individuals interested in taking the CLEP tests should find out about the acceptability of credits earned through CLEP at their particular college or university before taking a CLEP test CLEP tests are offered in 34 subject areas covered during the first two years of college. Five of the 34 cover material taught in the core courses required by most colleges during those two years. These tests are in the areas of mathematics, history, social sciences, English composition, natural sciences, and humanities. CLEP exams are administered on the computer. They are 90 minutes long, and consist mainly of multiple-choice questions. Some exams may contail questions that require the candidate to fill in (type in) the answer, usually a numeric answer. Computer proficiency is not required to take a CLEP exam. The exam is preceded by tutorials ranging from how to use the basic computer skills of pointing, clicking, and scrolling, to how to answer specific kinds of questions on the computer. The candidate has the option to see their CLEP score immediately following the exam. If they choose to see their score, it will be sent automatically to the institution they have designated as the score recipient; it cannot be canceled. The candidate will get a copy of their score before they leave the Assessment Center.

You'd like to go back to school to finish your degree, but you're overwhelmed by all the classes you'll need to take. It's called the College-Level Examination Program When I first learned about CLEP back in the fall of 1993, I had completed just 12 credits through the night school program at Immaculata College in Pennsylvania. At the time, I was in my late 20s, working full-time at a stressful marketing job, stringing for a local paper, running a household, and trying to balance church, family, and social activities. I hadn't officially matriculated into a degree program because I didn't want to commit a decade or more of my life to school.
