Netrino's Embedded C Coding Standard was developed from the ground up to minimize bugs in firmware, by focusing on practical rules that keep bugs out-while also improving the maintainability and portability of embedded software. The coding standard details a set of guiding principles (more below) as well as specific naming conventions and other rules for the use of data types, functions, preprocessor macros, variables and much more. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for any Embedded Programmers
Too often I've seen code written without any adherence to standards. It leads to poor maintainability, bugs, and a host of other issues. This standard makes source code very readable, helps greatly with portability, and minimizes bugs that come from many developers using styles that may clash, causing code to be interpreted incorrectly.Highly recommended. Will definitely make great use of this standard.

3-0 out of 5 stars over priced
Much of this information is on the Netrino website so I was expecting much more that what's actually in the book.
Price should be half.

3-0 out of 5 stars nategoose
This book does seem a good bit overpriced for what you get (but is available for much less {$29 shipped} at the author's web-site).
Like most programmers I have my own personal coding standards, but I'm also forced to follow other standards for different projects.I decided to get this book in the hopes that it would introduce me to some new ideas that I could incorporate into my own standards.I was glad to find a few new ideas for my own coding standards, but not a whole lot.Of course, I also don't agree with all of his standards.
This book could have been improved greatly with a few more examples to illustrate some of the easy ways bad things can happen if particular rules weren't followed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best standard I've seen for developing firmware in C
I recently purchased the "Embedded C Coding Standard" book a year ago or so.It's the best standard I've seen for developing firmware in C.I've read Michael's "Programming Embedded Systems in C and C++" and loved it.It's the reason I purchased his embedded coding standard book. We'll eventually use "Embedded C Coding Standard" to help us define and extend our in-house coding standards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good but over priced
At 89 pages, paperback, large-print double-spaced font, it is probably the most expensive book per ounce ever.Don't be shocked when the tiny 1/4-inch thick book arrives.Instead, think of the content you are buying; it's very good. The lessons taught and rules preached are very valuable.

Minor criticisms: The writing is rough. Some references are out of date (e.g. MISRA98 is quoted and MISRA-C:2004 is the current standard).Things you want to know more about are not footnoted and things you don't care about are.

Alternatively, you can get almost the same thing free on the internet. For example Jack Ganssle [...]) has a style guide/standard that mostly agrees with this one, but it's not as complete, more verbose and folksy.

If you do buy this book, only get one copy.Follow the book's copyright notice to learn how you can use it throughout your organization.Or contact the publisher and ask about their multi-copy discount.

You'd think they could offer it for $5, sell 100x more copies, make more money, get fantastic advertising and become known as the forefather of the embedded C coding standard.

Overall, a good book.I was quite pleased with this purchase, but it was my employer's money and not mine! ... Read more

Beginning ten years ago, Wiley began offering a student edition of the primary book, Architectural Graphic Standards, which was created as an abridgment of the prior edition of that book. This new student edition will be an abridgment of the present 9th edition, offering all the essential features of that very successful edition in an easily accessible and affordable format. Currently in the third year of studies in Architecture Science, from the very first chapter dealing with anthropometrics and its obvious importance to human interaction within a given space and other detailed chapters of building construction this book is an invaluable guide for my discipline. If you have the money for the non-student tenth edition of Architectural Graphiic Standards by all means that maybe the ultimate guide but this 9th edition student version is a good alternative.

4-0 out of 5 stars Handy reference to coincide with website
Each time I need to reference one of the NSES, I pull up the website AND have this book open. The website's search feature quickly locates particular standards and their implementation, but is somewhat eye-tiring to read from. The book is difficult to navigate quickly, but easy on the eyes. Whichever pages and passages the site lists, I find in the bound book. As more states align science curriculum with each other, these standards are becoming, well, the standards. The book is easy to carry along and read those 'teacher tips' sections while waiting in line, for an appointment, or that train to go by.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource - Highly Recommended!
"National Science Education Standards" is an outstanding, well laid out resource for those interested in science education. We needed this excellent book for my daughter's senior project (establishing an advance science club) and found it to be a comprehensive tome of knowledge, somewhat overkill for our needs.

This book covers the standards that should be used to measure student science knowledge and therefore the level of teaching in the schools (taken with a large sampling of students, of course).

Highly Recommended!

2-0 out of 5 stars The Study Bible
I was really disappointed in this hardcover version.Though more expensive, it is an older translation than the college edition. It does have footnotes, but they are not nearly as extensive as hoped for.

4-0 out of 5 stars What I wanted but slow delivery
This Bible seems to be the most comprehensive version of the New Revised Standard Version, which is considered by many scholars to be the best modern translation of the Holy Bible. Its commentary is thought provoking and concise.I would say, however, that this version is not for the casual reader of the Bible.A grasp of basic theology is needed to get into the commentary. As with most Study Bibles, I understand that the remarks are someone else's opinion.I purchased this Bible specifically for an Education for Ministry course I'm starting.

If someone is looking for an easier to understand Bible, "The Message" should be more to your liking.I have both, and often refer to The Message to make sure I'm understanding the meaning of confusing passages.

I would have rated this product as 5 stars were it not for the absurdly long time it took this product to come from the vendor in South Carolina to me. If you want this product, I would recommend using a different vendor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should have been my 1st Study Bible
This should have been my very first Study Bible. The RSV translation, notes and the Apocrypha makes studying the Bible an enjoyable experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful useful Study Bible.
Print is clear and easy to read and the leather binding is beautiful! Bible contains study hints and a lot of additional information in the back. There is no red lttering in the New Testament but I always found that distracting. I purchased this for a EfM course and it came highly recommended by the advance students and the instructor.

5-0 out of 5 stars The New Oxford Annotated Bible, RSV, Expanded Edition
I find that this older, 1977, Second Edition of the New Oxford Annotated Bible (NOAB), Expanded Edition, with its Revised Standard Version (RSV) translation "reads" much better than the brand-new, 2010, Fourth Edition, NOAB with its NEW Revised Standard Version (NRSV) translation. Here is how I came to that conclusion:

In my zeal to buy a Bible the minute I became a born-again Christian, I rushed out and bought the brand-new Fourth Edition of the New Oxford Annotated Bible (NOAB), copyright 2010, in the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) translation. As I understand it, the NRSV tries harder than any other translation not to offend anyone."Men" becomes "persons," etc.I took my Fourth Edition for a test drive at a Bible study class at my new, evangelical church and found that the Fourth Edition NOAB didn't read as well as the Bibles the other church members were using.I could compare how my NRSV translation sounded in comparison to theirs by silently reading the same chapter and verse that someone else was reading out loud from a different Bible.

In the end, I decided to mail my politically-correct Fourth Edition NOAB to my best friend, who is just getting his toes wet in Christianity, and to purchase a copy of the older Second Edition NOAB, copyright 1977, that I'm reviewing here----the edition with the distinctive white cross against a black circle on the red cover.Another reason I like this 1977 NOAB is that the Old Testament is edited and introduced by Herbert G. May, who taught at the former Oberlin Graduate Theological Seminary.I graduated from Oberlin College, so the connection of this Bible with Herbert G. May and Oberlin is a strong drawing card for me.

Speaking of cards, Oxford U. Press includes a How-To-Care-For-Your-Bible card with the NOAB, warning the reader not to insert church bulletins or any other paper bookmarks in the Bible because using such bookmarks could damage the "signature" of the sewn pages. I guess you are supposed to use a ribbon as a bookmark, but this NOAB does not come with any ribbons attached.

My favorite Bible right now, however, is neither of the above; it's the paperback New American Standard Bible (NASB) New American Standard Bible Updated Edition, which is also available on Amazon. To make this paperback Bible last longer, I covered it with clear shelf paper that I bought at Walmart. Now I have a compact, durable Bible in the same NASV translation that my pastor uses.I carry it everywhere in my tote bag and read it whenever I'm stuck in a checkout line or waiting for a drawbridge to lower.Because this Bible is an inexpensive paperback, I don't have to worry about damaging the glued-together binding by using a paper bookmark.Even though this Bible is cheap, it is printed in nice, dark type that is easy to read in spite of the small font.

If font size is an issue, you might prefer a larger-format version of the NASB.The larger-format version my pastor recommends is the Ryrie NASB Study Bible The Ryrie NASB Study Bible Hardback- Red Letter with DVD.Ryrie taught at Dallas Theological Seminary, which is where my pastor studied.

Product Description

The New Revised Standard Version is the "standard" translation used by mainline Protestant churches, Orthodox churches, and by many Catholics. The NRSV debuted in 1989 and is owned by the National Council of Churches, which is the leading force for ecumenical cooperation among Christians in the United States representing thirty-five denominations with forty-five million members in more than 100,000 churches across the country. They have chosen HarperCollins to be the exclusive licensor of the translation for the world (nonexclusively in the UK).

The New Revised Standard Version is recognized in scholarly circles as the most accurate translation into English of the original Hebrew and Greek texts. In the tradition of its predecessors, the King James Version and the Revised Standard Version, the NRSV was designed to be the "standard" version for English-speaking people across all denominations, which in many ways it has become. None of the new, more sectarian translations have approached its standards of elegance and accuracy.

This unique one-column setting allows people to read the Bible as work of literature. Each book is introduced with an original wood-cut. Overall, this special easy-to-read setting makes the Bible a wonderful reading experience. It also includes a concordance index to help people find key passages.

As I stated in my review of the OT & Apoc., people should not have to pay for two individual volumes @ $9.99 each. Now Kindle is releasing a single volume edition @ the end of Nov. 2010 for $9.99!Will those of us that purchased both original volumes get half our money back?

2-0 out of 5 stars Inconvenient
This translation of the scriptures is one I use all the time. However, you cannot type a verse in and find it. It is simply very inconvenient to move about the scriptures. You cannot study from this product. I use this only for reading a book at a time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Navigation Issues
I enjoy reading the NRSV.This version is verbatim to the printed version. I have two problems though.First is that the NT and OT are separate volumes requiring you to purchase two copies if you want the whole scripture.Second is the Table of Contents is just one simple step short.I sometimes would like to find something via chapter and verse. The TOC in this version only opens the book.It starts you out at the very beginning of the book.so if you want a chapter in the middle or end of a book you have to open it to 1:1 then next page for ever until you find what you're looking for. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Packing in several thousand pages of detail
2011 Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000 appears in its updated 38th edition to pack in 50,000 actual-sized illustrations and coverage of the latest values of world coins. It's a 'must' for avid coin collectors, filled with numerous detailed illustrations on every page lending to easy identification and valuation, and packing in several thousand pages of detail.

2-0 out of 5 stars Who's in charge here?
I was amazed to note that the coin weights and actual silver weights for coins from many countries were incorrect in this catalog. I have no idea what happened, but it needs to be fixed. In some cases, they appear to have truncated the coin weight in grams and calculated the silver weight based on the incorrect coin weight. In other cases, it looks like simply wrong information. As an example, KM-309, 311 and 318 all had actual silver weights of .0289 oz in the 2009 edition and now they are .0289, .0289 and .0278. On the nezt page, the weights of KM-310, 312 and 319 were all .0736 in 2009 and they are now .0736, .0718 and .0766. You may not care about the Netherlands East Indies, but check out Canada where there are also multiple errors. I haven't looked the gold coins, but I wonder if errors might also exist there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good catalog
A very good catalog for beginners. It has every coin from every country from 1901-2000. I'm very happy with my purchase, it will be very useful to organize my coin collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trustworthy Volume Again - But No CD
It is fairly difficult to welcome a new edition of World Coins Catalog 1901-2000 with great expectations. One can assume that by 2010 the editors made sure that their work is complete (actually, it isn't - one 1 pound coin from Cyprus issued in 2000 is still missing although two other 1 pound coins from the same year were added, copper 3000 bolivares from 1999 from Venezuela is missing still although silver 6000 bolivares coin issued also to commemorate the Maracay Mint is included etc etc) so the new volume becomes interesting only for those who are interested in recent changes of prices i.e. dealers and investors. They will find in the volume some changes and revaluations (Poland is going up - not much of a surprise as a coin boom in this country has continued for over a decade now, Great Britain is going down - the changes are caused rather by the decreasing value of the pound rather then by a general loss of interest in British coins) but not really that much to justify the purchase of another issue.
For those who already have the 2010 issue there is an additional reason why they should reconsider replacing it with the 2011 issue - there is no CD with the text of the catalog in .pdf files. In other words - if you have 2010 issue, think twice before buying the new one. If you don't have the catalog at all (if you collect coins, you really should) or you old copy is falling apart with age, look around first - maybe you can find the 2010 issue - it will be much cheaper now and the CD really does come handy if you travel with your laptop. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A"Cut and Paste" Job from the 5th edition
Do not waiste your money if you have the 5th edition from last year.stewart

If you do not have last years book, it's one of the best general info on knife companies and thier history. But Stewart does not mention Jim Sargent's book "American Premium Buide to Knives and Razors" with contributors like Case Guru Tony Foster. You need to own both.I cannot wait to see the new Case guidebook slated to be out in the fall of 2009 by another Case guy.

Buy bothe Stewart's 5th or the new 6th if you do not have the former, and DO BUY Jim Sargent's book above.

4-0 out of 5 stars Knife collectors guide is adequate
With chapters on how to appraise a knife's value, to chapters on major knife companies, large hunting knives, kitchen cutlery and straight razors this book tries to touch on every conceivable aspect of knife collecting. There are plenty of photos, and lithos to help identify different knife patterns and brand name tang stamps. The commemorative and limited edition section is very large with loads of details about very rare and hard to find knives. While there is a large amount of info here there is too much that would apply to a beginning collector and less to an experienced collector. I would not call this book a "must have" but it is helpful to a beginning collector.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pocket knife mania
I found a cigar box full of old pocket knives in my mother in laws attic.I wanted to learn more about them and what they might be worth. This book answered that question easily while also sparking some interest in acquiring other similar knives of value.I would recommend it or "Official Price guide to collector knives" by Price to anyone wanting to know more about pocket knives they might have.

What I didn't like about this book was the poor quality pictures and sketches for many of the knives, they were of copier type quality. But they were good enough for me to learn what I wanted to know.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview and a great place to start
Positives: Comprehensive overview of the various manufacturers.Good valuation system that gives direction on which brands are more desirable.Decent discussion of knife care.Good glossy color insert.

Cons: Does not discuss the history of various patterns(Stockman,Trapper, etc.), but this seems beyond the scope of the book (find an old copy of Bernard Levine's Guide to Knives...either the 3rd or 4th edition). A general overview of patterns and their intended use would be nice.

This book will get you headed in the right direction of knife collecting. This combined with the Bernard Levine book mentioned above is all you need unless you specialize in a brand. There are Case, Cattaraugus, etc... specific books. As to some other comments, I guess I knew this didn't cover fixed blade knives, but I guess it should be "The Standard Pocket Knife Collector's Guide."

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'bible' of knife values and history.
The updated 6th edition of identification and values packs in black and white photos of all kinds of knives and covers their history as well as collector ratings by condition and the latest values. Knife collectors will find Standard Knife Collector's Guide a detailed, important reference perfect for identifying and assessing a collection. ... Read more

Amazon-Exclusive: Q&A with Editor-in-Chief Dennis Hall

What is the most challenging or memorable residential project you’ve worked on?
Designing my own home.

Why?
1. Really tough client.
2. No budget.
3. High client expectations
4. Have to live with the results for the last 19 years and think about all the things I would do differently.

Architects design houses, contractors build houses, and owners maintain and live in houses. That is the natural state of things. But when you design, build, and live in the same house, you have a unique perspective and only one person to blame (it is all my wife's fault). And, you learn from mistakes in a profound way (just kidding, Janice dear).

Houses are a lot like marriages. There are happy surprises and disappointing ones, and never enough money or time to do everything you want. In the end, it is not the big issues that determine happiness; it is the details that matter.

Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction is a book about getting the details right. While having Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction in your firm's library won't necessarily improve your marriage, why take that chance? I know I wish I had it 20 years ago.

What’s “new” about the new edition?
The minimum standard of care is compliance with building code. But with thousands of codes and standards, some conflicting with each other, how do you know you have not forgotten something? This new book informs and educates the reader on specific code requirements and how they can be applied.

Remember, our clients pay us because we have knowledge of building design and construction and know how to apply that knowledge to their situation. While no architect promises a perfect set of construction documents, this is often the expectation of the client. The better we are able to convey building information to the client, contractor, and building official, the happier the client will be.Is that not what we all want?

What new content are you excited to see specifically covered in the book?
As a forensic architect, one of the biggest problems we see is the lack of understanding of the design and construction of exterior vertical enclosures. There are three basic types of walls: barrier walls, drainage cavity walls, and pressure-equalized walls. Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction explains how each of these wall types work and the importance of the water-resistive barrier and flashing in drainage cavity and pressure-equalized walls. Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction also provides details with code cites for the design of exterior vertical enclosures of numerous construction materials including masonry, wood, stucco, and others.

Armed with the knowledge of how walls work and the related building code requirements, keeping the water out of your project and having a happy client is easier. It is also far more economical for the home owner, designer, and contractor.

The new Graphic Standards for Residential Construction is a "must have" for all participants in the project design and delivery arena. The incredible and powerful new search engine within the text is just amazing and provides you with the information you need ... fast!Using the new web-based text is a valuable tool for me ... allowing instance access to the information I need, when I need it!I highly recommend this book to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Editor-in-Chief
The authors of the new Architectural Graphic Standards for Residential Construction (RGS) have spent thousands of hours in the writing and editing of the second edition of this book. We have scrutinized every detail, modifying them to ensure that they comply with the 2009 edition of the International Residential Code and current standards of practice. During production, the knowledge content was reviewed by an industry panel of architects, contractors, educators, building officials, and others to ensure that the latest information was incorporated.

We are pleased that the second edition of RGS presents the best of the first edition along with new information. Numerous new details and information was also added that was not included in the first edition, including a contemporary issues section, which address issues identified by the RGS Advisory Board as important to owners, designers, and contractors. This RGS is a must have book for anyone involved in the design and construction of a home.

5-0 out of 5 stars IRC references are ideal
The code references that are included in the graphics make a great shortcut to being able to compare with my local code requirements. The contemporary issues is really a great guide for issues that are relevant to the residential designer and architect.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have reference

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Happy
One of the main reasons I purchased this item was because I thought it came with a CD so I could have the info on my computer. The 2010 edition had one and most major book companies are adding digital copies of books not removing them. This book is not necessarily cheap and the digital copy is really the only reason I purchased it.Will probably return the book as it is too much money for just a book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Likely to Buy the Next Issue
Another issue of the 21st century World Coins Catalog proves yet again that the whole idea was aimed mainly at selling the same thing twice to the same group of customers. The 2011 issue still is not big enough to justify the separation from the 1901-2000 volume (no, there is no need to list prices for trial strikes in the latter volume!) while the editing leaves far too much to be desired.
The list of flaws is quite long but let's be general here. The more recent issues of most countries are not brought up to date (strangely enough Ukraine is well done but its neighbour Belarus is not to such a degree that in some cases some coins from a series are listed and some are not) and this applies to a quite strange degree to countries living on coin production (and quite popular among collectors) such as Isle of Man or Gibraltar (current circulation issues introduced in 2005 are still not listed!). The prices show little connection with market reality or are not given at all (Monaco 2007 issues). Mistakes from earlier volumes are not corrected e.g. there were two Polish 2 zloty commemorative coins issued in 2005 and 2007 missing from 2010 issue and guess what? They are still missing. The same coins are listed twice. The sequence is sometimes quite inexplicable i.e. the latest coins are listed as the first. Etc etc.
Conclusion - unless you are a dealer and you need it for your business (and you can deduct the cost for tax purposes) don't buy this volume. You will find more specific and up to date information on new coin issues on the Internet and more data on their prices on eBay. To make matters worse Krause apparently decided that adding a CD was too much and cancelled it in this editions, you have to buy it separately in effect paying twice for the same faulty material.
You will have to make your decision but I am not very likely to buy 2012 issue. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars for what it claims to be, the best around
This is a great short book for reviewing the intricate grammar of Arabic after being taught it.It has no exercises or reading passages, though, so is no replacement for a textbook, let a lone a teacher. For what it claims to be, it is the best I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Clear and Concise
I am not a fan of small grammar works, but the way in which the information is presented is clear, ordered and an outstanding basic grammar reference. It will not go in detail but is sufficient for a concise guide. It is very charming and well printed. The chapters are ordered according to type and are organized in clear sections. I recommend it without reservation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for Arabic Grammar
I studied Arabic for about 4 years before I got this book, and only once I read this did I feel like I really started to understand the language. It lays out the basic rules of Arabic grammar in an easy-to-follow manner and builds on your knowledge to help you go from understanding how word meanings are developed to how sentences are properly formed.

The explanations may not get into the finer points of Arabic grammar such as the always annoying case endings, but it's that simplification that makes this a great resource for anyone who wants to learn Arabic.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK
I think this book is okay and can be better. Content-wise, it is proper for a beginner that learns Arabic, which makes it not explain the grammar points clearly.

4-0 out of 5 stars the caspian sea oil
This book is over 800 pages, starting from the early U.S. oil companies competing with one another in an 1890's style industrial struggle. It has detail. If you like hard data this is the source. Daunted by the size of this tome? read the last three chapters first. "The Price of Oil", "The legitimate Greatness of The Company" and "The Conclusion": these three chapters will put the present day in a new light for you. The Caspian Sea was an oil field before the Bolschevik Revolution. At that time czarist Russia was a world contender. Now Caspian Sea oil has been "rediscovered". What was the Burma oil co.? What were the yearly production figures? what were the various allocations of oil use? What role were other countries playing? This is the place to find it.
