Product Description
The second edition of the Environmental Engineering Reference Manual is the most current, comprehensive review for the all-objective environmental PE exam. Developed in response to the current test specifications and input from many recent examinees, this manual provides the topical review, the solved example problems, the tables of data, and other resources you need to pass this exam.

The Exam Information You Need

Michael Lindeburg's introduction describes the current PE exam format and the topics covered on the exam. He offers many suggestions to help you prepare for it--from planning your study schedule to knowing what items to take with you to the exam.

The Review You Need

ENVRM2 prepares you for every topic you are likely to see on the current exam. Several chapters have been updated with new information and rewritten for added clarity. There are two new appendices. Hundreds of solved example problems reinforce the concepts in the text. A full glossary, with new entries, defines terms that may be unfamiliar. Whatever you need to review, chances are excellent you'll find it here.

The Data You Need

Hundreds of tables, charts, and figures make this a one-stop resource for the exam. Having ENVRM2 with you in the exam cuts down considerably on the number of other specialized resources you'll need. You won't have to juggle 10 different books to find what you need.

The Practice You Need

In the companion Practice Problems (ISBN 1-888577-99-1), more than 370 problems are coordinated to the topics in ENVRM2, giving you lots of opportunity to test your skills. Complete solutions are included.

A Comprehensive Glossary

When you confront a word that doesn't look familiar, go to ENVRM2's glossary for a quick definition.

And a Great Index, So You Can Find It All Fast!

During the exam, when you need to look something up, you can't afford to waste time finding it. The detailed, cross-referenced index in this book guarantees that you'll find what you're looking for--quickly and easily.

All Known Errata Corrected

All of the errata that have been identified in ENVRM are corrected in ENVRM2. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars simply the best...reference
As everyone has said, this is the most important book...be sure to check out Amazon Listmania for other useful books for the Environmental PE.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Review and Reference Book
This book was very useful in preparing for the PE and serves as a good reference during the exam.I would not bank on it as the only reference, but it serves as a good supporting reference book. There are no example problems in the book, and it simply covers the potential topics that might appear on the test in a very broad sense. It helps to target studying on topics that you might not use everyday or have not seen since undergrad.I recommend the purchase of the book, but would look for a used copy as it is rather pricey!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Review
This book provides a good overview of problems, but bring extra reference material to the exam. This book only shows one way of doing problems and there are easier methods out there. However, this book does provide a good general reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars FOR NON-UNDERGRADUTE ENGINEERS
My undergraduate was in Geography. My Masters in Environmental Engineering.I am not good at math, and formulas with greek letters still make me tense inside.Having said this, here are the books you need to concentrate on to pass this exam the first time.

1.This book.It needs to be your centerpiece, your touchstone. You need to know this book, and especially the tables and appendices.Location, Location, Location is so important, know where everything is in this book.Make this book part of your life.Travel with it, sit with it, take it on your 10 minute coffee breaks... just know this book.

2.Next: 101 Solved Engineering Problems. This book has the most realistic PE Problems.Do them all. They are categorized by type so you must write the page from Lindeberg next to the problem in this book for quick cross reference. This is your best book for quickly finding an example of what you are trying to solve on the test.

3.Next: Lindeberg Practice Problems. Also good, but not as good as 101 (above).Use this as a reference. It aligns with the Lindeberg Hard Cover for quick cross reference.

4. Last: Environmental Engineering Practice Exams (Schneiter).Do all the problems. It looks like a Lindeberg, but it isn't.Like 101 Solved Problems, you must cross-reference the problems with there topic location in Lindeberg Hard Cover.Questions are not in a particular order (4 practice exams, level about right), but questions are in random order which makes look-up during exam tough.

5.Environmental Law Handbook (Sullivan).Need this for the regulatory, and statutory questions.Find a good OSHA book too.

6.Last: Environmental Engineering Calculations (Lee & Lin). This book is expensive and big, but it is a good fail safe. What I liked about it is it presented things differently than Lindeberg, in case I didn't understand where Lindeberg was coming from.

7.I HATE CONVERSIONS, and the test is full of them.If you hate conversions, buy Lindeberg's Engineering Conversions. It is a time saver.

You do not have time to use even all of these references.Just don't show up with a heck of a lot more. You need to drill, drill, drill, on the problems so when you see them on the PE, it is like regurgatation.Lindeberg Hard Cover will covers everything you need to know... this book is your centerpiece! ... Authoritative and classic, the seventh edition of Environmental Policy once again brings together top scholars to evaluate the impact of past environmental policy while anticipating its future implications, helping readers decipher the underlying trends, institutional constraints, and policy dilemmas that shape environmental politics.

This new edition represents the most extensive revision to date: five new chapters include coverage of national security and the environment, China s environmental problems, domestic and international actions on climate change, conflicts over U.S. natural resource policies and collaborative ecosystem management, and the role of economics and market incentives in environmental policy. Incorporating analysis of the eight years under George W. Bush and a look ahead to the Barack Obama administration, all chapters include new scholarship, case studies, poll data, court rulings, congressional actions, agency decisions, and other events at the international, national, state, and local levels. With its clear, engaging writing, this tried and true reader makes great environmental research and scholarship accessible to an undergraduate audience.

Environmental Policy includes new coverage of:

  • national energy policy
  • climate change
  • implementation of the Endangered Species Act

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning: This Book is EXTREMELY Biased
This book is INCREDIBLY biased. It's basically an excuse to bash the Republicans and all conservatives in general. It does not portray events and facts fairly. For example, when the Democratic Congress or President failed to accomplish, they are called well-intentioned but constrained by political pressures. If the Republicans fail to accomplish, they are labeled actively anti-environmental and "secretly" taking advantage of their power to purposely harm the environment. The policies and concepts are well-explained, but the rampant bias makes the book much less credible. It's really hard to take seriously.

4-0 out of 5 stars informative and interesting
a lot of books in this genre can be dry and a total snooze to read.this book is written not only well and full of great information, but it is such an easy read.i read through chapters faster than any other "text" book i have had.i was entertained enough that it is questionable if i wasn't reading the book for pleasure instead of work.:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Newest in a classic series
This is the new edition of "Environmental Policy in the 1990s,"a series now considered to be the most important in the field. This editionhas some of the classic essays from earlier editions, but is expanded tocover the Clinton administration and address issues of a global nature.

Ihave been using this series as a basic text in graduate courses inenvironmental policy for years. I consider it to be a primary source of notonly teaching, but research and basic information. All of the essays areclearly written and as unbiased as possible. I give this my highestrecommendation.

(Addendum in 2007. This series is up to six editions with a seventh due out this summer. All are essential for the serious student of environmental policy and history). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good start, but environmental studies probably won't morph into environmental engineering career...
What's this about the first 3 reviews being advertisements for "EnvironmentalCrossing dot com."Oh well.

This book is two thirds job opportunities, and one third how to represent and present yourself for getting a job. That last third is fairly good advice for anyone, whether you are interested in an environmental career or not.

The authors focus on five general environmental job tracks:

- environmental education
- environmental policy, planning, and management
- environmental technology
- environmental sciences
- environmental engineering

As I mentioned in the title of this review, throw out environmental engineering if you have an environmental studies degree.Environmental engineering, like civil engineering, is a demanding 4-5 year program of study. It ain't gonna happen.

The environmental sciences and technology tracks might be useful, but then your degree should be focusing on environmental science, and not environmental studies.

I sense a lot of students being interested in environmental education, but the book talks a lot about middle and high school positions.A teaching certification or degree is important here.I'd add environment-related communication careers (writing, public relations, journalism) here as well.

That brings us to environmental policy, planning, and management. This twenty page section could have been greatly expanded, because I see a lot of opportunity here for environmental studies majors. There are career opportunities in both government and non-governmental organizations here, as well as a track for environmental studies majors to get a graduate degree in law, public administration, or even business administration.

Best hint for applying for job?More and more employers are asking you to post your resume on-line.Don't be fancy. If it looks scrambled when the prospective employer opens it up, your chances are scrambled as well (p. 28).

You might also want to take a look at The Complete Guide to Environmental Careers in the 21st Century.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
This was a helpful book.It really details how to make a comprehensive resume. Also it educates on average salaries oft different kinds of jobs, and has other statistics. I've also found that http://www.EnvironmentalCrossing.com is a useful website for finding jobs. They only have jobs from employer websites, and they also have far more jobs than I have ever found on any other job search website.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent book, other resources more useful
My mom surprised me with this book, but I have to say that http://www.environmentalcrossing.com has been the best resource in my job search. They've got jobs geared towards what I'm looking for and it was so much easier than trying to sort through all the junk on other job search sites. Since all of the jobs are from actual employer websitse you don't get any of the scam jobs that seem to be the majority of other sites content!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book, very helpful
I was reading this book looking for jobs and it was good but what was really helpful was going to http://www.EnvironmentalCrossing.com. They have tons of jobs to look through, more than any job board I've previously looked at. EnvironmentalCrossing uses only jobs listed from employer websites so I have a better chance of getting a real job than most other places.

Well-grounded in the history of the field, Motivation combines classic studies with current research, while promoting the idea that motivation stems from physiological states, psychological motives, and environmental incentives and goals.

Motivation provides an overarching organizational scheme of how motivation (the inducement of action, feelings, and thought) leads to behavior from physiological, psychological, and environmental sources. The material draws on topics that are familiar to students while maintaining a conversational tone to sustain student interest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product
My book was in almost perfect condition at 1/3 the price. It arrived on time and the seller even sent me a message when she mailed it out.I'll be back to this seller again!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you Serious?
I am surprised by "K. Pring"'s review. This book is well written? It is very much the opposite. Deckers defines the same words in many different ways in separate chapters. His definitions and examples suffer from extreme tautology, and the book shows a clear bias for evolutionary / behavioral psychology. The same ideas, phrases and sometimes sentences are repeated exhaustively. The only concise writing is in the chapter summaries. He makes assumptions without evidence. We have had to read the whole book except one chapter, and so far it is very disappointing. One of the worst textbooks I have had.

5-0 out of 5 stars great condition
The book was in a great condition and I received it in the expected date.
Thanks

Product Description

Global warming.  Renewable energy.  Hazardous waste.  Carbon footprints. These and other environmental topics are being discussed and debated more vigorously than ever.  Colin Baird and Michael Cann's Environmental Chemistry is the only textbook that explores the chemical processes and properties underlying these crucial issues at an accessible, introductory level (only general chemistry is a prerequisite).

With authoritative coverage that balances soil, water, and air chemistry, the new edition again focuses on the environmental impacts of chemical production and experimentation, offering additional "green chemistry" sections and new case studies, plus updated coverage of instrumental analysis, farming applications, bioengineering, and biotechnology.

5-0 out of 5 stars good text book
has lots of current data partaning to the environmental hazards and how we are leaving a carbon footprint that needs to decrease.

3-0 out of 5 stars late.. late.. late...
maybe it was my fault and didn't read the shipping time correctly, but it took FOREVER to get the book..

5-0 out of 5 stars Good environmental chemistry book
This text was required for a Water and Wastewater chemistry class, but the information contained in it, far surpasses what was needed for class. I kept this book as I can see myself using it again in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Environmental Chem Text
I took a web-based environmental chem course, and this book was used in lieu of lectures. The author does an outstanding job of presentation and the text is very well-organized.Includes a lot of current information. The problems within the text are very challenging and reflect real world issues (i.e., PCB concentrations in the Great Lakes) My only criticism is that the chapters are sometimes overly long. Other than that, this is one of the best E-chem texts I've come up against, and I certainly learned more from it than I would have from listening to a prof lecturing for a term. Recommended highly!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good presentation of a broad topic.
I am also a chemistry student and I found the book to be rather easy, but that is because the text is very clearly written with good presentation and concise wording. It is certainly a good place to start in trying tounderstand an environmental problem, especially if the readers backgroundin chemistry is only on a general and limited organic level. ... Read more

Product Description
The Environmental Case gives readers a unique, first-hand feel for some of the most interesting and illuminating controversies in U.S. environmental policymaking--including the disaster at Love Canal, the dispute over snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park, and the global warming debate. Through 16 carefully constructed cases,Layzer covers the spectrum of environmental issues, from habitat conservation, air and water pollution, and overfishing to environmental justice and urban growth management. Each case elucidates various aspects of the U.S. political system but is also linked to the others by two main themes: environmental conflicts are, at heart, conflicts between advocates with fundamentally different values, and the way problems are framed in politics plays a central role in shaping how those values get translated into policies.

This second edition showcases all 12 of the original cases, thoroughly revised and updated. In addition, Layzer has added four new cases:

  • Community activism propels the Dudley Street Neighborhood Association to fight for environmental justice and equitable redevelopment of a once-distressed area in the heart of Boston.
  • The use of snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park divides environmentalists into bitterly opposing camps: those who regard parks as playgrounds and support unlimited motorized access, and those who advocate more conservative management that emphasizes protection of the park's flora, fauna, and quiet serenity.
  • In the tuna/dolphin and shrimp/turtle disputes, competing advocates debate whether U.S. environmental protection measures constitute non-tariff barriers to trade and, more broadly, whether trade liberalization is good for the environment.
  • Opponents of growth management campaign to undermine the city of Portland's strict policies curbing urban sprawl, the most stringent in the nation.

Layzer provides maps, tables, figures, questions to consider, recommended readings, and useful websites to help readers think critically and actively about the issues raised in each case and facilitate further research. ... Read more

Very well written account of key historical events. Not a dry account either, very interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Environmental Policies
I was pleased to recieve my book in two days, its in good shape, and the previous owner did a good job underlining the major points with notes added in the margins that are helpful to me.Its better than having a new book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting case studies. helpful learning aid
The cases are much more interesting than the accompanying book about Environmental policy. I found it slightly wordy and left-leaning, which I expected, but the content is good. It might benefit by offering more about the other side. I am an environmentalist and agree with all the points they make, but I feel like I would benefit most by learning about a perspective that I don't relate to as well. You have to know the opposition if you want to be equipped to fight them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
Surprisingly, this book is quite interesting. I needed it for my environmental studies course at college. There's some interesting information that made me think about the daily choices I make and how I could make a difference to our environment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very sophisticated or deep.
I bought this book for use as an introductory science textbook for non-science majors at university level.Having been under the impression that it was fairly good (based on the table of contents and past review by others), I was very disappointed in the elementary level that it presented its material: more like a junior high presentation than even a high-school level. Thus, I sent it back, and was even more disappointed when Amazon charged me for the return shipping, saying that it wasn't their fault. So, if you buy this book, expect lots of color, but not much depth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book has alot of images, and being a visual learner i think it really helps. The book is also a easy reader you'll read a few pages before you actually realize how much youve read. This book came in mint condition and was exactly what I needed!Thank you!

4-0 out of 5 stars good practicals
A good buy for environmental science teachers/students - most of the activities contain really useful background information and the lab write-ups are well-structured. The only thing to note is that some of the lab experiments require some material/equipment that may not be available or expensive to purchase

Product Description
The most comprehensive introduction to environmental ethics available, ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS offers students a current look at the issues and topics that dominate the field today, organized into two main parts that take students seamlessly from theory to application. This Fifth Edition of the Pojmans' popular anthology, like its predecessors, includes numerous topic areas not covered in other anthologies-including an all-new section on Climate Change. Featuring articles carefully selected for clarity and accessibility, the text follows a dialogic pro-con format presenting divergent positions on each topic, ensuring that students are both exposed to and understand both sides of every topic so they can develop their own informed positions. The bulk of royalties for this book are donated to groups dedicated to protecting the environment, such as the Wilderness Society and the Sierra Club. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very informative book

This book is very informative and important for anyone working in the environmental field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Textbook Review
This book was for a class I'm taking this semester and all of the articles in it have been really interesting. Environmental Ethics encompasses so many different subject areas and this book has incorporates so many different points of view that I feel like both sides of each topic covered have been equally represented.

3-0 out of 5 stars The best among a bad bunch
This anthology is well organized and contains a few gems, but many of the articles and book excerpts are terribly outdated, and some read like bad op-ed pieces in a local newspaper. This is unfortunate, since the subject is an important one.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!
When I first looked over the book, I wasn't overly impressed at first and thought that it was going to be a hard and boring read.I was completely wrong! It is the favorite among my textbooks now. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Roa's Environmental Science activities book
This book has a variety of activities and labs that are simple to set up and in some cases, are rigorous in analysis. It is an excellent resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gift for the Enviro Teacher
This activities kit contains 37 relevant, engaging, and relatively challenging activities for high school students. As a first year enviro teacher, I was so thankful when I discovered this book at the library. It divides activities by the following units: human issues, land use issues, wildlife issues, water issues, atmospheric issues, and energy issues. Even though I can see the point of the reviewer who rated this book a 1 out of 5, I would argue that since environmental science is an interdisciplinary course this book finds a decent balance between the physical science and social science issues of the class, especially for the non-AP course. I previously noted that I thought this book was relatively challenging, and I said this because I believe this book attacks those higher order thinking skills on Bloom's taxonomy, e.g. application-evaluation. Where as other lab books can be very cookbook-ish, and only tackle the lower level skills, like define and identify. Regardless of your teaching philosophy, I believe this book is a must have, if not as an aid for laboratories and "science" lessons, it can serve as a great engagement piece for your units.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Teachers Pet
This book proved invaluable for clasroom activities. It was fun going to a well thought out book to utilize in your classroom environmental discussion and activities!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not science
Although some of the activities in this book are interesting, much of it is not science.Frankly, some of the science is at best not up to date, and at worst incorrect.I returned this book and would not use it as a resource. At the very least, this should be called "Environmental Studies".

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Teacher Resource
This book is packed with hands on activities and includes student and teacher background information - very useful stuff!I have used it with middle school kids and other people in my district have found it useful at the high school level.Covers full range of environmental concerns including global warming and energy issues. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars New as promised!
The book arrived brand-new, just as promised, and it came in a timely manner. The price was extremely reasonable, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Slow delivery, Questionable Condition.
It took several weeks for the book to arrive and when it did it was, in my opinion, in worse condition than the description claimed. It wasn't dysfunctional, but if you are a stickler for the quality of condition I would be wary or question the descriptions given. Then again, it could have been a one time thing and I was just a little disappointed a chunk of the pages fell out when I opened the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Second-hand, third-hand..
What I ordered was a used book and that is what I received. Satisfied customer

4-0 out of 5 stars The price is almost worth it...
I used this book for years in teaching environmental ethics.I believe it is the single-best text out there for such a class. However, that price is astounding, and for the first time in a decade, I have switched textbooks.

The contents are almost worth it, though, and richly interdisciplinary, collecting together economic, biological, religious and philosophical perspectives.I highly recommend this for those who want to know what a nearly perfect environmental ethics textbook would look like, and who want the best regardless of the price.

I lament the necessity of not inflicting such a cost on my students.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not just "environmental" ethics...
This book provides an extraordinary place for any individual looking to understand and hone their ethics and values, it just happens to useenvironmental issues as its context. The editorial comments are conciseand probing, and the illustrative articles and essays are classic andthought provoking.Although the reading is generally a bit dense for pageturning on one's way to bed, that's even viable for individuals looking fora bit of intensity prior to sleep. An excellent, well rounded, explorationinto earth's environment and human roles and perceptions regarding it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A decent textbook with a few formatting weaknesses.
For a person interested in an overview of environmental history and some examples of typical sources used by the field, this is a reasonably good textbook. The pieces excerpted for the various sections are a good samplingof some of the best and well-known scholars in the field, and the primarysources would promote interesting discussion in a classroom setting.Smallintroductory sections help explain the significance of each.Theorganization is clear, and the 15-chapter format lends itself well toteaching this book under the 15-week semester system. An appendix provideshelpful definitions of common terms and topics, such as ecofeminism andhuman ecology.

However, the book has several flaws that discourage mefrom giving it an entirely positive endorsement.First, it lacks an index,a major problem for a book of this type.Second, both primary andsecondary sources appear in excerpted form (missing sections are indicatedby ellipses) and lack the footnotes from the originals.Although thesources are fully cited in an appendix, this is frustrating for the readerwho was looking for a more "intact" representation of thematerials in one place.

If you are taking a geology course with this book, drop it because the subject is boring and the book just spits a bunch of geology jargon that no reasonable person would give a **** about. REALLY regret taking this course for science credits because not only do the lectures make me fall asleep, but just looking at one page of this book makes me wanna shoot myself... and this is coming from someone who has read countless numbers of textbooks

The book I ordered was in great condition, and was $70 less than it was at my school bookstore. It also shipped promptly.I have no complaints.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Textbook on International Environmental Law
As this book is 1550 pages long, I have not read the whole thing. But as atextbook and thanks to its clear structure it is possible to read parts ofthe book without getting lost. It is also useful to get an introductioninto a specific topic on which one might do further research. Taken intoaccount that this is a book for studying, it is almost fun to read. It isvery comprehensive and covers not only the basics of environmentalproblems, and the international environmental law itself, but also a lot ofcross cutting issues. The chosen excerpts are from the many differentinfluential scholars and practitioners and fit very good into theparticular sections. The book deals with the traditional views and theneeded basic information on international environmental law. But it alsopoints out alternative views and progressive developments in this area. Iliked in particular the introductory chapters on environmental problems andtheir relation to philosophical, development and social issues. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon is the best
When I placed my order for this class, Environmental Policies, I inadvertently ordered the book for my next class, Twentieth-Century Europe, instead and did not realize it until the Thursday before my class started, which started on that Tuesday, I called the customer service line and spoke with a representative and I received my book on that Wednesday, a day after class started.Again Amazon is the best place to order your books.
The book Environmental Policy Paradox is a book with great references and gives great insight into what is going on with in our environment and the policies behind them. This is a very interesting book, it helps to understand the paradoxes that are involved in policy making and what is behind the decisions that are made regarding our environment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Got it off Ebay for $21 less

The book isn't new, but it has every page and with the exception of a few marker prints on the front, the book is in acceptable condition. If you need this book, get it from another seller for less.
