5-0 out of 5 stars great reference
I needed sports trivia questions for a trivia competition at work (I was the emcee).I discovered that it is hard to find a book of sports trivia questions, in multiple choice form, on all sports. This book met my needs. The one drawback that I see is that the author sprinkles in trivia questions about himself, and I'm sorry to tell him that I never heard of him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read from a Great Player !
I purchased this book because I was always a fan of Rick Barry, and I must say that his writing is just as impressive as his ball-handling.The trivia questions varied in difficuty, and my 15 year-old son and I spent a fun weekend playing the various "games."A great gift for Fathers' Day or any day you'd like to test your sports intellect ! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Kindle Mess
The Kindle version of this book is replete with repeated phrases and broken up words, making it a very annoying read. As of this moment, after searching Amazon for nearly an hour, it appears there is no refund option available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun with Facts--Very WEIRD Facts...
The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists is subtitled A Mind-boggling Collection of Fun, Fascinating and Bizarre Facts on Movies, Music, Sports, Crime, Celebrities, History, Trivia, and More, a mouth-boggling title/sub-title combination if ever there was one.

Like many other titles in this genre, it is filled with strange trivia and minutiae. Each entry in its lists of ten is described or its inclusion is justified in a brief paragraph. Unlike many other titles in this genre, it also contains some good advice -- hints and tips for living better, enjoying more, and preparing for the future (a lot of stuff that provokes, "hmmmm...why didn't I think of that?").

You may not need the "Top 10 Prison Survival Tips" if you take the "Top 10 Tips for Outrunning the Cops" to heart. There are top-10s of cooking tips; ways to appear intelligent, live frugally, win arguments, and remove stains; and prepare for another depression (important to read with the related "Top 10 Tips for Surviving the Street"). Of course, it's not the useful information that is the most entertaining.

The first of its 14 chapters gets right down to the good stuff, or as the author puts it, "Bizarre Stuff." Urban legends are debunked, medical anomalies are described, and (for the e-shoppers out there) "Top Ten Bizarre Things You Can Buy on Amazon.com" are revealed. Religion and science, people and nature, movies and music, and literature and history all have their own chapters (as well as food and drink, crime, tips for life, travel, and the ever-popular miscellaneous).

Browsing through the table of contents entices with "Codes You Aren't Meant to Know," "Poisonous Foods We Love to Eat," and "Modern Methods of Execution." The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists is 706 pages long, and even if you tell yourself you're not interested in some of the topics, you'll find yourself reading your way through to the last page.

Many of the lists are funny, some are sad, others are shocking; best of all, there's so much in The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists with which you are unfamiliar or were only vaguely aware that it could be included in "Top 10 Tips for Sounding Smarter than You Are."

Keep The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists in the car and read it while you're waiting in line at Motor Vehicles or sitting in a waiting room, the bathroom for brief reading (but don't tell anyone or you'll never have access to the privy), next to the bed for some light reading before dropping off, or anywhere that offers short reading opportunities. Warning: The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists is addictive and there's really no such thing as"reading just one list." As with potato chips, one leads to another, and another, and...

Bottom Line: Would I buy The Ultimate Book of Top 10 Lists? Yes, I've always liked books of lists, and this one is particularly entertaining. Turn to any page and be shocked, amused, scared, mystified, or amazed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even my kids love it!!
I dont know that I can put into words how awesome this book is, but I will try!! I found the website earlier this year and thought that it was so much fun to read, well then it became an everyday thing!! In addition the the fun facts on the Top 10 Lists, I have learned so much. And like J. Frater I love the dark, death, and macabre! Its just something that fasinates me and scares me at the same time! I have turned lots of my friends and family on to the site and now with the book!! It stays on my coffee table and is loved by my family and friends alike! I have 6 kids raging in ages 17 to 7, and they all love it too! My oldest sometimes uses it as a reference for school papers!!!!! The younger ones just love the things that they learn, nad had no idea about!

Cant wait for the 2nd book to come out, since it is about bizarre things it should be amazing! Im sure reviewing it will be just as exciting!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a fun and terrific book with a journalistic edge!
I happen to know the author who showed me a galley of his book, which is coming out in May, he said. The book features a simple format with something like 1,100 Q&As divided among 18 category-chapters thatinclude "The Majors," "The LPGA," "Augusta,""Guys and Gals," "The Seventies," "Hogan, Nelson, and Snead," "Spanning the Globe," "Golf Media and PopCulture," "Ryder Cup," and "Golf Rules, Equipment andControversies." Readers can keep score with each hole(chapter) being apar 3, 4, or 5, and scores issued depending on how many Qs in each chapterare answered correctly. There's also a lot of great photos I had never seenbefore, to include "Old" and "Young" Tom Morris, HarryVardon, Ely Callaway, Althea Gibson, Arnold Palmer, Bobby Jones with acamera, Tiger Woods, Mickey Wright, Walter Hagen, Jan Stephenson, and LauraBaugh. There's even one shot of a young Nancy Lopez about 20 years agoswinging for the fences and wearing a white miniskirt--she really does havenice legs. There are also nifty sidebars, strange-but-trues and a varietyof top-ten lists. All in all, it's a terrific book because the authorprovides hundreds of interesting Q&As that aren't your run-of-the-millcliche questions, although a lot of your favorite Q&As are included. It's just hard enough to be a challenge, yet "easy" enough so asnot to alienate golf fans less than expert. Unlike the several other golftrivia books in existence written by people I've never heard of (and I doread a ton of golf publications and books), this one is actually authoredby a veteran golf journalist who has written extensively, covering golf forthe Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The National, Golf World, and GolfIllustrated. There's a lot of funny stuff in here as well as revelatorymaterial. I believe Towle was getting David Feherty to write his foreword, and I know that CBS's Jim Nantz and noted golf author Curt Sampson haveback-cover endorsement blurbs. Also, the cover has been significantlyrevised from what's pictured here on Amazon--it's a lot cooler now. Anyway, this is everything a golf trivia book should be and I love it! ... Read more

This book follows the same Bathroom Reader formula that all the others do in the series, with the exception that the articles are over sports, racing, and table games. If you have never read a Bathroom Reader, the format of one is as follows:

There's an index of short, medium, and long articles that are categorized in certain topics. Some articles, usually stories, may be continued in another spot in the book. On each page, there is a factoid at the bottom. The books are not linear, so you can flip to any page you want to.

Almost every article in this book was very interesting, even if you do not follow that particular sport, race, or game. Some of the articles have even inspired me to start researching certain games. Despite that the books are meant to be read on the john, I find them to be extremely entertaining on long road trips and other events in which you must wait a long period of time.

If you are a long-term subscriber to Bathroom Readers, then there is a buyer beware for this book. All of the articles in this book have apparently been used in other editions of the Bathroom Reader, as one of the above reviewers has mentioned. I'm quite a casual fan of the Bathroom Reader series, as I own about five or six editions, but even I had some déjà vu reading some of the articles.

Bottom line or tl;dr, buy if you're a sports fan and haven't read many bathroom readers, don't buy in any other case.

5-0 out of 5 stars Readers for the Bathroom
I purchase bathroom readers every year for all the men in the family. They are a huge hit and one of those "expected" Christmas gifts.Since my husband gets one as well, I also get to read them. They are perfect for our "sitting" room. The stories are interesting and SHORT, which is key.A great fun, yet informative book.

1-0 out of 5 stars disappoinment
I HAVE BEEN READING BATHROOM READER'S FOR A LONG TIME. I FOUND THAT THIS BOOK WAS A DISAPPOINMENT BECAUSE ALL THE ITEMS IN THE BOOK HAVE BEEN IN PREVIOUS BATHROOM READERS.IF I HAD KNOWN THAT, I WOULD HAVE NEVER ORDERD THE BOOK.
