From the supplier: The impact of practice schedules on the learning and performance of sports skills is studied by taking into consideration the concept of contextual interference (CI) continuum. In this study, the subjects were asked to practice a basketball set shot under conditions of low, moderate and high CI. Results show that practice conditions did not significantly affect performance. Informative and entertaining.
I started thumbing through this at a friends house. I was just using it as a time killer as I have no aspirations of becoming a personal trainer, but after a few pages I really got taken in by the writing. The author writes in a very easy to read, conversational style.The author's personal experiences, shown in sidebars, gave me the feeling like I was talking to a friend who just happened to know a ton about personal training.

Not to say that the book isn't in depth, as it does a great job of breaking down everything you could possibly have to think about when starting a business.After reading this starting any business seems possible, not just a personal training one. It's very concise without losing the reader in the details. In fact the authors writing style kept me engrossed with the in depth details provided.

Great Training Schedules
I've been looking for charts to help me with mileage and training for various races and this one has a ton to choose from.I'm training for my first marathon using his Novice marathon guide and it has been great.Finally, some concrete schedules to use for any distance!

An excellent compendium of training ideas
I am quite surprised by the negative reviews of this book.I have found it helpful for training for races ranging in length from 10 to 50 kilometers.Skim it, read it, study it, but at the least you'll never have to buy another series of training charts.

Not worth it, try again
I have purchased many of Hal's books and this is the only one I have ever been disappointed in. Not at all worth owning, the contents of this book is mainly training charts.

Tha one star rating is for the cover of the book
Looking at the title and the briefing I expected a lot from this book. I expected recommendations about the tempo, distance to cover, periods to rest, what&when to/not to eat or drink, places to/not to train, what towear, etc. together with the reasons.

Unfortunately none of myexpectations were covered. The book can be defined as a collection oflectures or articles of different gurus. Thus it is targeting theacademicians rather than the amateur runners like myself.

The title on this one may fool you.I followed Higdon's Chicago Marathon training guide (included in this book) for two marathons and bought the book to get his insight on races of other distances.While I was initiallyquite disappointed that the training schedules in this tome were mostly notMr. Higdon's, there is no denying this is a fabulous book.With schedulesranging in difficulty from novice to expert runners, and ranging indistance from the 5K to the Ultramarathon, there's almost too muchinformation for one little book.Prepare to be overwhelmed.If you can'tfind a training schedule in here, you can't be satisfied.
