5-0 out of 5 stars if you study itf, you must have this book
Grandmaster CHO gives not only clear and concise directions on perfroming the hyungs, he gives historical and very useful information to the tkd student. There is also very helpful sections on how perform the basic blocks kicks and foot placement in the hyungs. For the beginner to advanced, especially a person thats on the road and trains alone alot, this book is superb!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done Forms Reference
The strength of this book is the abundance of photos for each form. The photos are also numbered according to the corresponding step in the form.Several of the more complex steps have multiple photos (6a, 6b, etc.) showing intermediate positions moving from one step to the next. The story behind the form and notes which precede each form are far superior to the "one liners" that usually accompany the forms.

Parts of the book are a little cheesy, however.A section showing Master Cho on various martial arts magazine covers does nothing to add to content. The biography was a little melodramitic.

Fortunately, the heart of the book is very useful, making this book valuable to those practicing the ITF Hyungs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Tae Kwon Do
this book is what i was trained on. step by step instruction on forms, TKD background and very nicely wrote. again the forms are the traditional and not "westernized" i train my students with it as guidelines forforms. and revert to it often. it is underpriced and a steal for thequality.Reed Sensei, Contemporary TKD, 3rd degree Reiki.

4-0 out of 5 stars Universal TKD Pattern Book
This book is very helpful for me when learning the basics of my patterns.

The patterns in this book are ITF patterns, which most Taekwon Do patterns are based upon.In other words, its a very universal patternbook.

What I find most helpful about the book is that it gives you thediagram, interpretation, and number of moves in each pattern, plus clearphotographs of the preparation, chamber, and execution of each move.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Supplement
Although this book is sometimes lacking in clarity and explanation, it more than makes up for it by being a great supplement to your normal training and study.I've found myself refering to Master Cho's TKD HyungVolumes dozens of times after something just didn't click in class.Thepictures are well done and logical, and have given me new perspectives ontechniques.I have found no equal to these volumes as far as amove-by-move pictoral analysis of the ITF patterns. However, the writtencontent of the volumes is sometimes unclear and lacks thorough explanation. These minor flaws are easily overlooked though when you can see thededication to Taekwon-Do that Master Cho has.One of the overlookedtreasures of these books are the inspirational sayings that Master Cho hasaccompanied with fantastic pictures of him breaking, doing flying kicks, etc. After a hard night at class when I'm frustrated I come home and readsome of these and I realize that it's all worth it.Scott Tingley, I DanBlack Belt, Yom Chi Taekwon-Do Association ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great photos, clear message
Filled with good information, illustrated with tons of good photos. This book is encouraging, as it shows girls and boys of all ages, sizes, and ethnicities (and all ranks) performing stretching, self-defense, and basic tae kwon do skills. It's written at a level kids can understand -- without insulting their intelligence.A great buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tae Kwon Do for Kids
I found this title rather diappointing. If you are the take it at home type and don't actually attend a Tae Kwon Do class you may find this helpful. Although I must say that the information is acurate. But anyonewho attends classes and get this title will be disappointed as well.Mr. Yates is ususally a VERY good author, this book does not do himjustice. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A good TKD basic for beginners.
I did not like this book when I got it. I found it simplistic.I kept it in my TKD library and eventually my wife found it. She had just started in TKD and found this book to be important to her understanding.A good beginner book. Mr. Yates has a good book on TKD forms. The one problem with this book is that the same book is found under the title of Korean Karate.Do not be fooled as it is the same book.

4-0 out of 5 stars clear and concise
Tae Kwon Do Basics (formerly released as Korean Karate for Kids) is a very good book for beginners. It's richly illustrated with clear photos and line drawings showing each step of each move.Even better, the illustrations are accompanied by clear text descriptions of each move. The chapters cover stances, exercises and stretches, some kicks and punches, blocks, a few basic forms (katas), sparring techniques, and self-defense moves. The charm of this book is its simplicity and clarity. (Plus, it's very inexpensive -- always a good thing!)I highly recommend this to anyone considering taking American Karate or Tae Kwon Do, as well as parents of children taking martial arts.

(Keith Yates wrote Tae Kwon Do Basics as a 6th degree black belt. He's now a 10th degree black belt.)

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK STANDS UP TO ITS TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This incredible book shows you the basic stuff about the most popular and widespread martial art in the world. It goes over the history of the art very well. You get to see the pictures of all the fantastic moves like the kicks, punches, etc. ITS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

The book also contains all the defensive tactics you'll ever need to thwart your attacker's strikes, kicks, chokes, and grabs. All the moves are broken down to its most easilylearned form.

There is a chapter in the book devoted to self-defense techniques that are real GOOD. This chapter alone is worth the price of the entire book. After reading this book, you will find out why people around the world choose to learn Tae Kwon Do instead of any other martial art. This book only teaches you about he simple fighting techniques that can be mastered very easily. There are no complicated moves at all.

If you want to defend yourself good, then get this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only possibly useful for a total beginner
I am a white belt and still thought this book was essentially useless.I should have gotten one of the slightly more expensive, in-depth books I believe.

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of the basics of Tae Kwon Do
Hello, well i am a 6 degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and this book is basically what i teach from now, the students pick the movements very fast and understand the way i teach them, because this book is one of the bestever written

Product Description

Side Kick is the tenth volume in the extremely well written and fully illustrated, Achieving Kicking Excellence series of martial arts related books.

Side Kick, along with the other nine volumes in the Achieving Kicking Excellence series, goes into intricate detail over all aspects of executing the primary kick, which in this case is the Back Leg Side Kick, and several of its main variations.

Starting with a basic anatomical analysis of this kick, you quickly progress to the basic principles associated with the Side Kick, and then you dive right into learning the proper execution of the primary kick, Back Leg Side Kick.

Once you have finished with this section, you are taken to the variations chapter which builds upon the primary kick, Back Leg Side Kick, by teaching you 10 of its main variations. From here you are taken to the Training and Practice Methods chapter for a look at some very simple, yet effective methods for adding speed and power to your kicks.

Your next chapter takes a question and answer approach to some of the most common problems people have executing the Side Kick and the solutions to correct them.

The next chapter in this book deals with a very brief and basic application section for the Side Kick and each of the variations previously detailed in this book.

NOTE:

The combat/self-defense applications of the Side Kick are discussed and demonstrated in much greater detail in the companion book to this book, Side Kick: Achieving Kicking Excellence; Volume 10, which is Side Kick: Applications in Combat: Achieving Kicking Excellence; Volume 20. This book goes into intricate detail over all aspects of applying the primary kick, which in this case is the Side Kick, and several of its main variations, against twelve of the most common attacks that you are most likely to face in an actual unarmed self-defense/combat situation.

At the conclusion of this book you are given a sneak preview of the next ten volumes in the Achieving Kicking Excellence series, which are the Applications in Combat volumes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Side Kick - What you need to know
In Achieving Kicking Excellence - Side Kick, Mr. Kovacich has again provided a great service to martial arts practitioners.Side Kick provides a very detailed description complete with photos on the proper way to perform a side kick and variations.I have found that this book has helped with my kicking and also in the way I teach the kicks to my students.I would highly recommend this book to all beginning and intermediate level martial artists and maybe advances practitioners may pick something up as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars How's your side kick?
Here we go again.I have read all but two of Shawn's books on kicking and it is amazing how he has managed to get so much information on kicks into each book. What is of interest to me is the fact that you will learn variations of the side kick. You won't have just learn a side kick but a hop/sliding side kicka jumping side kick plus more.
Shawn has taken the time to give you real skills and a way to build on those skills. He shows you, withpictures, which part of the body you will be using for the side kick. There are target references (a kick is no good if it doesn't hit a viable target). You will get tips on how to build up your speed, power and execution.
The only thing left for you to do is practice but practice correctly.Shawn says in the book it is better to practice 100 times correctly than 1,000 times incorrectlly.I agree!
These are not just words on a piece of paper but personal experience that has taught Shawn this is the way to properly execute a side kick. What you won't learn in this series is timing and distance. That is reserved for another series of books on Application of Kicks.
There is not a lot more I can say about Shawn's books that I haven't said already.Get it, put it in your library and refer to them often.

5-0 out of 5 stars everything you needed to know about kicking
I have been practicing the martial arts since the age of 14. This year will mark the 40th year that I've studied one system of combat or another. Additionally, I have been a police officer for 31 years and my profession has occasionally offered me the opportunity to use the thingS that I've learned in the Dojo. I have an entire set of Shawn Kovacich's superb series on AchievingKicking Excellence (Vol. 1- 10) and can truthfully say that I have seen no more thorough books on the art of kicking in the all my years in the martial arts. The kicks covered (one per volume) include the back kick, the heel kick, the axe kick, the crescent kick, the reverse crescent kick, the front kick, the hook kick, the hatchet kick, the round house kick, and the side kick.
Each volume begins with an overview of the kick and instructions on how to make the best possible use of the kick. Chapter 1 delves into the anatomy of the kick and which muscles are used, and in what manner, to achieve the maximum possible efficiency in kicking.
Chapter 2 outlines a stretching program and offers helpful tips in that area for the student. Chapter 3 deals withthe basic principles of kicking movement. These include the striking implement, target areas, stability (a biggie!),balance, alignment, sequence of movement, accuracy. Strength, speed, timing and distance, impact, retraction, and visualization. Each area is explained in detail as it relates to developing your kicking ability.
Chapter 4 deals exhaustively with the primary kick. It follows the kick from initiation through each phase of the kick to impact, recoil, and recovery. He troubleshoots the problems that many martial artists experience with the kick at each phase and offers corrective actions for each problem.
Chapter 5 goes over pretty much every variation of the kick known to man and these are dissected with master Kovacich's usual thoroughness.
Chapter 6 is one of the strongest parts ofthe book for me. In this chapter, Master Kovacich discusses training and practice methods. He details skill, strength, speed, and power training. Learning how to do the kick is only half the battle.Developing the kick through specific training methods and exercises is the other half and is usually overlooked by other authors.
As if he hadn't already done enough in this area, Master Kovacich outlines further specific trouble areas for the student in chapter 7. Chapter 8 covers kicking applications for tournament and street.. Master Kovacich shows how the kick is set up and how delivery can be affected by your opponent's actions as well as your own.
In chapter 9 you can see why Master Kovacich's kicks are so good and why you should pay attention to his advice. He is in the Guiness Bookof World records for throwing more high kicks in an afternoon that I believe I have thrown in my life.
If you desire to become a more powerful, competent kicker, then these books represent an important investment for you . I can tell you that, even after 40 years of fighting experience, there are things in these books that have made me re-think some of my training methods regarding kicking.
Master Kovacich will be coming out with a new series of books dealing with the combat applications of each kick in the near future. As I'm sure these books will cover combat applications with the same thoroughness of this series, I eagerlyawait their publishing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book
Shawn Kovacich has been training in the fighting arts for many years, competing in some of the toughest bare knuckle tournaments around, setting world records for the Guinness Book of Records (11,000 high kicks in 5 hours) and working as a bouncer in places angels fear the tread.

Shawn is an excellent all-around martial artist with kicks that could flatten the face on a statue. He shares his knowledge of his kicking ability in a large book series he calls "Achieving Kicking Excellence" that is like nothing else on the market.

In the Sidekick volume, the author offers something for everyone. If you're a visual reader, there are tons of how-to-do photos that show the many forms of the sidekick from every angle. For the more technically minded, the author breaks down every facet of the kick so that you know exactly how and why it's executed mechanically, to include which muscles are involved and how precisely to align the skeletal system.

The book also includes exercises - weights and free-hand - that target the specific muscles needed to develop your power, speed and accuracy in the sidekick.

There is a small applications section that he uses to clarify certain points about delivering the sidekick. One section I really liked was the troubleshooting guide. It's a little like getting personal coaching since you'll probably find a question answered there that you have been wondering about.

The word "complete" is overused in reviews but not in this case. Achieving Kicking Excellence Sidekick is a complete book on developing your optimum sidekick kick. Every martial artist - veteran and newbie - will benefit from the insightful instruction in this book, written by a guy who has truly mastered kicking and applied his knowledge in the ring and in the street.

I've been training, teaching and writing about the martial arts since 1965 and I highly recommend this book.

Loren W. Christensen, author of over 40 books, martial artist, 8th dan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Master Athlete and Teacher Shares His Art
Shawn Kovacich is a committed, highly regarded and honored practitioner of martial arts with a specialization in Kicking. Yet not satisfied to have achieved the degree of excellence in his craft, Kovacich has devised a series of books that extend beyond the usual 'self-help' category of writing. His considerably cautious eye and sense of balance, in sport and in life, has resulted in his publishing a series of books - ACHIEVING KICKING EXCELLENCE - that at this point are ten in number but promise in the near future to be doubled in amount. Each of these books, handsomely designed and with excellent photographic illustrations, takes one type of kick at a time and explore not only the development of that kick, but also inform the student reader the kinesiology of that kick as well as slowly advising how to develop and master that kick.

Most books on martial arts fall into one of two categories: some are written in a format that is beyond the understanding of the reader who may be completely new to martial arts while others dumb down the reader with superficial 'quick fix' problems thinking the reader is already proficient in the fundamentals of Martial Arts.Kovacich respects his reader/pupil, and with great dignity of writing style and unfolds each kick mastery with surety of developmental skill and encouragement of each aspect of a single movement. This allows the reader who may be proficient in Kicking to buy just the one book written for the type of Kick the reader finds difficult to master: buying the entire set of books assures the reader that each stage of development will be respected from the beginning to the mastery of the ten Kicks Kovacich addresses.

Each of these ten volumes is equally excellent. The ten volumes include Back Kick, Roundhouse Kick, Front Kick, Side Kick, Crescent Kick, Reverse Crescent Kick, Hook Kick, Wheel Kick, Axe Kick and Hatchet Kick.Having exposure to each of these ten volumes gathers respect for Shawn Kovacich not only as a man who is able to master a tough medium of sport, but also one who has discovered the perfect manner of teaching and communication. The ten volume set is well worth the investment, monetarily and educationally.Grady Harp, May 09 ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
This is a great book to be used as a supplement to ones martial arts training. I would strongly recomend this book for any martial arts enthusiast or someone that is just interested in Tae Kwon Do.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tae Kwon Do Book Worth Obtaining, Reading, and Pondering
Duk-sung Son is one of the original students of Chung Do Kwan founder Won-kuk Lee, who studied karate in Japan during the Japanese occupation of Korea.Originally published in 1968, this is the "old school" tae kwon do Chung Do Kwan pretty much as Son learned it from Lee in Korea, prior to the changes made to the art directed at making it much different from Japanese karate and more sport oriented.

The level of detail in this volume makes it worth obtaining. It was clearly written for university level students (I believe Son taught at a New York University for many years).Eschewing simple explanations and redundancy, Son presents detailed descriptions of techniques, skills, and common mistakes.Son himself posed as the model for all of the photographs, and indeed one can see from various photos his incredible physique. This text is a complete beginning through intermediate course for Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do, covering all materials up to black belt level. The chapters are as follows:

1.Introductory

2.What is Tae Kwon Do?

3.The Fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do

4.Warming Up Exercises

5.Basic Blows, Kicks, and Blocks

6.Forms

7.Three-Step Sparring

8.Practical Applications

9.Free-Style Fighting

10. Other Exercises and Breaking

11. Conclusion

~Index

The chapters "what is tae kwon do?" and those on sparring illustrate the influence of Korean culture as well as similarities to Japanese style karate. The chapter on forms (hyung) includes the two basic forms Son devised himself (Kuk Mu 1 & Kuk Mu 2), the five Pyung Ahn Hyung, Chul Gi 1 (Naihanchi Chodan), and Pal Sek (Bassai).

Son offers no easy solutions, and does not cloak his advice in the mists of myth. This is martial arts for martial art's sake, devoid of salesmanship and window dressing, before the days of 4-year-old black belts, when martial artists were known as people who pushed and worked.Son tells us:

"Although Tae Kwon Do does not have a philosophy per se, its philosophy, if it has onem is most closely akin to that of zen if, in fact it is not the same thing." (302)

Also recommended is Son's sequel, "Black Belt Korean Karate".

5-0 out of 5 stars Important TKD book
This book surprised me. I was not expecting much from it and bought it only because I found if for a great price.Other reviewers have talked about the pictures and how good they are, but they fail to mention the text. This is well written with very precise explanations of how moves are done. Explanations of how strikes and kicks are performed with the reasoning why.The book also explains the common mistakes made and the outcome of those. All and all a good addition to anyone's TaeKwonDo library or a good general martial arts library.I only wished they had explained the more traditional forms.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear and complete
This is an excellent book on Chung Do Kwon Style TKD ! The pictures are clear and very well planned - each movement is shown from start to end, stage by stage and the pictures were taken with foot-placing lines drawn on the floor, so it is easy to see where you have to step. Clearly, the author knew what he wanted: to teach you each aspect of the art.
Even for a WTF TKD student like me, this book is most invaluable, although the names of the stances, attacks and defenses are a little different from what I'm used to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference for Chung Do Kwon Style TKD
Having studied Chung Do Kwon for twenty years (receiving my Black Belt from Grandmaster Son himself), I find this book invaluable! Now an instructor myself, it is a wonderful tool to aid in the instruction of Basics & Hyungs, showing excellent breakdown of each move. The history section could be have a bit more meat to it, but for someone interested in the technical aspects of this style it is a MUST HAVE! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps One Of The Finest Books Ever Written On The Subject
Having been involved in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do for over 25 years and currently holding a 4th dan black belt in the art, I am always more critical on books and DVD's on the subject of Tae Kwon Do more so than I am towards most any other martial art, with an occasional exception or two. Therefore, I was almost a little reluctant to read this book, but relented anyhow after skimming through the first few pages.

Now normally I try and write a fairly complete and descriptive review on each unique section in a book, however, in this case I am going to forego my normal style and simply base my review on the overall quality of the entire book.

If you are already a senior ranking student (gup) or black belt in Tae Kwon Do, then this book will not only be a welcome addition to your martial arts library, but the information provided within it is very valuable and relevant to the subject of "free sparring" in Tae Kwon Do. I can't imagine anyone not being able to learn a considerable amount about the subject even at just a first cursory look through this book.

I found the material very well organized and easy to understand, if you already have a significant amount of experience in Tae Kwon Do. If you are a novice or beginner student, then I would recommend that you hold off on getting this book until you within a year or so of testing for black belt.

This book recommends that you primarily use the following three kicks in competition.

Roundhouse Kick
Back Kick
Axe Kick

I should make note that its not that other kicks aren't used, it's just that these kicks tend to be more effective in the competition arena.

This book covers just about every possible subject that could or would come up on the subject of Tae Kwon Do "free sparring," although not all subjects are covered in great detail, they are discussed to varying degrees and offers the reader a pretty good overall view of the subject. I highly recommend this book to all individuals interested in Tae Kwon Do "free sparring."

Martial Artist/Author of the Achieving Kicking Excellence series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Instructing Book for TKD Players
I am a Japanese student. In Japan, there are few Japanese books of WTF taekwondo, so people uses English TKD books to learn taekwondo. And this book is one of the most popular TKD books in Japan. This fact would represent value of the book.
As for me, this book is felt to be very useful, too. It helped me constructing training menus and sparring strategies. It contains lots of helpful instructions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the serious competitor
I've never been a fan of point sparring, but I have to admit this is a pretty good book. It's definetly not for the beginner, though. The technique section is very basic, giving only the briefest of discriptions on the kicks, but also providing suggestions on how the moves are best utilized. The book then goes into stratagies for TKD style sparring, though most of the drills and principles can be used by karateka as well. What does show a lot of depth is that the authors include chapters on sports medicine, nutrition, mental preparation, and conditioning.A lot of that information is useful to any serious martial artist who participates in point sparring, and I'd recoment the conditioning excersises be applied to any program. The book ends with a chapter on Olympic TKD rules, including weight classes and a list of fouls.A glossary follows. As this book was designed to prepare competitors and coaches for Olympic-level competition, I'd call it an essential publication to anyone who is competing at the national levels in any martial art point sparring.

5-0 out of 5 stars A lot more than it looks
I think this is a great book. If you ar looking for a big book with a lot of pictures in it, then this is not the book for you since wery few of the combinations are shown. But if you already know how to kick and how to punch, then that should not be a problem for you. Everyone involved in sparring as a practicioner or as a coach could learn a lot from this book. I certainly did, even thaug i practice ITF Taekwon-Do, since a lot of the bodywork and qualities you need are similar.

2-0 out of 5 stars Didnt like it
I didnt like this book and it was very boring. Its said the same things many times and the only thing I found useful were the moves that it showed. If this is the best book of TKD sparring I wonder what kind of books the others are. ... Read more

Product Description
This training guide is intended for all students of taekwondo. It is the only up-to-date and official training manual of the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain and it covers the four novice grades which are incorporated into the White and Yellow Belts. The beginner is taken through a series of warm-up exercises; courtesy rituals are then explained and the basic punches, kicks, strikes and blocks of taekwondo are described. Common faults are identified and the appropriate remedies are suggested. The book then goes on to deal with prearranged sparring and patterns, breaking each down into easy-to-follow constituent parts. This manual has been written by senior instructors of the Taekwondo Association of Great Britain." ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A solidunderstanding of basic TKD
I bought this book when I was a whitebelt. There is great explanation on the different aspects to what is required for white and yellow belts in any traditional TKD program.I will admit that the forms are lacking with visualrepresentation but the text is fairly clear. If you are looking for a forms book then look elsewhere (the Jhoo Rhee books for example) but if you are looking for an overview of beginning TKD then you can find nothing better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid Help for Learning Techniques
I used this book to help me learn the forms given, and found it very useful. I have since lent it to other students, who were similarly helped. The pictures demonstrate the techniques very clearly. The one lack is that the patterns are somewhat difficult to follow as far as direction - this requires careful reading of the text, but diagrams would have helped. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mandatory Traditional TKD forms
I have come to depend on Jhoon Rhee's forms books as I have moved from form to form. The books are compact making them easy to use and to carry in a gear bag. There are multiple angles on many positions so that you can see exactly what is needed. The only negative thing I can say is that this is the last of the books.I wish he had done all the forms. Each book only has one or two forms therefore making it more to the point. These will always be part of my TKD library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Continuation of the Series
Another excelent selection from Jhon Rhee's series of forms. The moves are all excelently shown, depicted from many angles.Steping diagrams help students learn how to transition between moves. It is present at all theclasses I teach for reference. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great reference for new black belts in TKD.
This is an excellent resource book for new black belts in TKD and those blacks belt hoping to advance in this sport (TKD is not an art anymore)it is also helpful for those new instructors with a text outlining the forms required for advancement. GM Chun compiled an excellent resource at the time of its printing. It is worth while owning if you teach TKD or are a low rank black belt.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too hard to find!!!!!
This book is a good resource for all black belts who are serious about continuing their training. It is a continuation of Mr. Chun's "Tae Kwon Do, The Korean Martial Art". The book presents some nice advanced kicks and displays some awesome pictures of breaking techniques. It also provides some useful self defense and free sparring examples. The book does a superb job of explaining the black belt poomse and its presentation of the Tae Geuk is also helpful. On the other hand, this book falls short in some areas. It needs more examples of advanced kicking techniques, more advanced black belt self defense, and a lot more combinations which display the different advanced variations of Tae Kwon Do techniques. In Conclusion, this is a good book, but is incomplete! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tae Kwon Do - Not Just For Kids!
Nowadays kids have too much time on their hands. They tend to get bored easily, fill their idle minds with video games, and the percentage of overweight children is nearly an epidemic. This is where Tae Kwon Do can help.In days gone by kids got a lot more exercise than they do now.Joining a martial arts program can really help them to not only build strength and agility, but it will also help to raise their self-esteem and confidence levels.

Personal account stories have shown that many children who were threatened by bullies no longer have to worry about whether or not they'll be beat up on the playground once they learn some Tae Kwon Do skills. No, the moves shouldn't be used to show off or harm others, but when a child knows that he/she can take care of themselves and not remain a victim, this can do so much for their confidence.

It can be beneficial for adults too! It's an excellent stress reducer, and helps to develop discipline and patience, not to mention offering a strenuous yet fun workout.

Parents, why not take Tae Kwon Do classes with your kids? This would be an excellent way to bond with your kids, while showing them the importance of exercise and self-defense.

In Tae Kwon Do For Kids And Adults, Curtis Glassberg covers why this style of martial art is so helpful. Curtis has been a practitioner for years now and feels that everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from this martial art.

Mr. Glassberg shares his own story of how and why he pursued Tae Kwon Do.Having ADHD--Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder--he found that it greatly helped with his focus and his health in general.Too many children have this label pinned on them.Sometimes it is a true medical condition, but other times children are simply bored and have too much pent-up energy.A good martial arts program can do wonders for their mental, physical, and emotional health!

In his book he covers the various belt colors and the levels a student must complete before obtaining a black belt.Tae Kwon Do isn't something you do for a few months, it should be a lifetime pursuit. The more you learn and the more you practice, the more it helps you inside and out.And it's not just a few cool moves either, there are ceremonies, stances, and Korean phrases used during practice.

Be sure to check out Curtis Glassberg's book, "Tae Kwon Do For Kids And Adults" to learn more about how it enrich the lives of yourself and your children.

1-0 out of 5 stars Whaaaaa???????
This book was really weird. No matter how hard I tried to make good choices, I just got killed or something. And there's isn't any Tae Kwon Do!!! Not to mention it was just plain a snooze to read. I should know. My brother owns a copy and I once borrowed it for a road trip. Good if if your absolutely desparate for reading material...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good martial arts adventure
This book was stupid. For one thing, it had almost nothing to do with Tae Kwon Do or martial arts.It was just a lame adventure about the CIA and a lunatic South Korean military leader who wants to take over North Korea.Emphasis on the word "lame."Save your money for Master of Kung Fu, Master of Karate, or better yet, Master of martial arts. Two thumbs down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
I admit there are not many happily-ever endings in the book and it's a boring plot about world domination. Yawn. but it's a good storyline nonetheless. Joan Pyun was more than nice to interact with and I liked the interaction with Joan.

Frank Bolle's artwork looks great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Brightfield's best Choose Your Own Adventure book
I found Master of TaeKwonDo a little disappointing after readingBrightfield's other books. The book was only about a madman's plot to takeover the world and saving your friend Ling. Also, it's impossible toactually defeat the bad guy in book.Save your money and buy one ofBrightfield's better Choose your own adventure books: Master of Kung Fu,Master of Karate, Master of Martial Arts, or Master of Aikido. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Chung-Gun and Toi Gye of Tae Kwon Do Hyung
Mr. Rhee's entire collection of color belt patterns is an excellent reference, particularly on foot positioning. The stances facings have changed by ITF since the books were published but that's a minor issue. I highly recommend the entire collections for those who practice ITF taekwon-do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jhoon Rhee is great.
