Editorial Review

Product Description
This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for snowboarding boots for step-in bindings across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for snowboarding boots for step-in bindings. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the cities in Japan). This study gives, however, my estimates for the latent demand, or the P.I.E., for snowboarding boots for step-in bindings in Japan. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided and concentrated across the cities and regional markets of Japan. For each prefecture, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time. In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book
At $12.98 this book is a real gift, I can't think of better spent money. The photos are beautiful and exciting, the book looks very professional. You will find help on many different topics, from the first moves tocompetitive snowboarding, from how to get off a lift to hot to wax andsharpen your stick. I have bought many snowboarding books but none of themsurprised me as much as "Let it Rip." If on your budget there isplace for only one book, then there is no doubt that this is the right one.The price would be excellent if it was a softcover book, instead you get ahardcover, I don't think you can find a better deal.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
This is actually a fairly decent book on how to ride a snowboard.Touches on some freestyle and freeride.Looks like a children's book, but reads like a concise adult book. There is really not much to know to be honest - sun is powerful up in the mountains, wear sunblock; at least wear waterproof pants, hat, gloves; 1/2 size smaller than your normal size for boots, make sure it comfy; get a decent intermediate board w/cool graphics - you're set!Of course, in terms on instruction - probably best to take one lesson, the worst fall is from the heel to your back or toe to your wrists so keep downhill edge up at all times; weight on front foot, always; edge either toe or heel, avoid a flat board - now you're really set! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars On the edge, maybe -on the nose, definitely!
I bought three books on boarding and this one was so bad its only use was as joke material. I entertained my wife with its examples of really bad writing - take for example the section on 'Timing' - "one of the mostelusive skills to learn" says McMullen - well folks he's going to keepit that way by only spending 4 lines on the subject - and Hey I've alreadylet one of them out of the bag! Nor will 'Timing' make it into the index(keep it mysterious I say!). Tell me how an author thinks it makes sense tohave 7 pages on stretching with photos (yes I know it's important butreally ...) and two paragraphs on dealing with 'Ice, Crud and Slush'!Ourfavourite though was, "A good way to improve your timing is to followriders who ride well. Study their technique and position, not their style[HUH!He's lost me but now it gets incredulous] Ask them to go slow so youcan observe closely." Well folks aren't you better off for readingthat!Oh, by the way you just read the other 3 lines on dealing withtiming. The most critical part of boarding - turning - gets two paragraphs... well at least you'll be well stretched.See the 'CompetitiveSnowboarding' chapter for a real hoot - a page intro followed by aninterview with somebody who's done one too many head plants and that's it!This book is not basic, it is the level before that, you know, learning toread, write ... My advice? You'd do just as well asking boarders on theslope to slow down so you can watch (their technique but not their style)and save your $$... unless all you're really looking for is a good laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Begginers

Editorial Review

Product Description
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "snowboarding boots for step-in bindings" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. ... Read more
