Great book. The illustrations, explanations, and techniques are EXCELLENT.As a Muay Thai enthusiast getting back into training after several years of slacking, this was a great refresher.I also believe it'd be perfect for the beginner looking to learn basic movements, techniques, and how best to employ them.I would recommend this for anyone looking to improve their striking game.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I do a bunch of mma reading and found this to be a great book. In my opinion it is better than the bj penn book. I highly recomend it and the coolest part is the first few pages about a day in a life of a muay thai fighter.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Introduction
The techniques presented in Christopher Delp's book are correct and explained in a way that a beginner can easily understand but the presentation is boring and uninspiring. One can learn all the techniques presented in the book in a two hour class and have a better grasp on the biophysics. There are no interesting or creative moves that a reader can see in the book and then practice on his own.The book works as a reference and probably if one is teaching oneself Muay Thai. However as a supplement to a class on Muay Thai the book is next to worthless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Starter
This is a great primer for any of the kicking-hitting martial arts. Not too deep or technical yet it covers all the fighting basics (except grappling). We use it for tune-ups for when we are not in the dojo and for settling disagreements as to form and technique options. The way it is laid out, it serves as a great starter or supplement to the fight science student.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book, Good Thecniques
Hi! I'm a brazilian Muay Thai and Taekwondo Fighter.
I love this book. It has the basic steps to became a good fighter. I had a lot of ideas for may and may students trainning after read this book.
I recomend it for everybody who likes muay thai like me!

4-0 out of 5 stars muay thaibasics
this book is very good for those who want an introduction to thai boxing training.

5-0 out of 5 stars many pictures and techniques

I needed a book to revise some basic techniques from classes I used to take. My requirements were a book that:
1. had a decent number of techniques
2. had clear pictures and explanations
3. was affordable

I was mainly after a book on technique, and not the history and culture of the art, there are other great books and videos available that focus on that.

This book had more techniques than what I where initially after, and so I learned some new ones I hadn't learned in class.
The techniques are neatly categorized according to "weapon of choice": knees, elbow, kicks etc. so it is easy to look them up.
The pictures are sequential so you can see the steps taken, there is also text that explains the technique, and even advice on how/when to use them.

Besides the techniques the book has information on warm-ups, stretching and so on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book for Muay Thai Kickboxing Training
I am the owner of Angel's Gym. Angel's Gym is a Martial Art school promoted by the International Kickboxing Federation. We have trained 3 IKF NC State Muay Thai rules (Amateur) Champions for 2008 and 2009.This book was and is a source of reference for conditioning and training form and sparring at our training facility. Neither my trainers nor myself have found a more worthy literary source for contemporary, competition curriculum development in the area of Competitive Kickboxing Training.

The Author uses pictures, text and bullet facts to drive his training points home. The techniques are demonstrated and presented in correct and incorrect form to help the reader track his/her own progress. If the reader is a Full-Contact or Muay Thai Kickboxer in training this book is an excellent source of information. If the reader is a trainer of such competitors it would be an indispensable resource. For the trainer the book should be used in conjunction to reading MMA Striker books that discuss a stylistic interpretation of the classic techniques depicted in this resource: Anderson Silva and BJ Penn's books for example. When doing so this book is good for the conditioning and form aspects of training.Use the Style Books for sparring applications that involve transitions from Boxing, Kickboxing, and Takedowns.

3-0 out of 5 stars it was alright
While this book does have some good information, and lots of photos to demonstrate techniques, the author doesn't even actually seem to demonstrate that he realizes any difference between muay thai and kick boxing. All in all, i would rather not have bought this book, but am not terribly upset that i did. So, not a terrible buy, but don't expect too much.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Muay Thai training book on the Market
If you want to be the best striker in your dojo this is the book to buy. Also buy all the Benny Urquidez Martial Arts training books together your knowledge of striking will be awsome. Also join a good Muay Thai School then compete against Tae Kwon Do Stylists. Then see how easy it is to defeat Tae Kwon Do Black Belts. Buy the book its brillant.

4-0 out of 5 stars Americanized Muay Thai; well-rounded conditioning
The emphasis of this book seems to be conditioning more than technique. However, that doesn't mean it isn't good. There are five full chapters on physical fitness, and it's probably the most complete program I've seen in a martial arts book. The conditioning covered is everything from calesthetics to weight training to stretching to cardio. For those who are wondering what fitness has to do with fighting, well, it's a lot easier to defeat a person of equal skill and greater size if you have superior conditioning.Anyway, I found these chapters easy to follow, and very insightful. As far as the techniques go, they are described fairly well, and following a single offensive move are the defenses against it.Punches are given the most detail, with sidebars providing extra tips for each punch.Just for the record, pgs. 15-70 are devoted to these techniques. There's also a chapter on training drills, which covers equipment and different drills to do based on what skill you want to emphasise. On the down side, the "self-defense" section was kind of baren, the history chapter seemed a little rushed, and many combinations seemed to favor no-holds-barred contests instead of Muay Thai, in that there were throws and chokes.Overall, a very good book, I just don't think it truly presented Muay Thai.MMA/NHB atheletes might find it useful, as well as folks who are trying to spruce up their self-defense/full contact training. Also, anyone who wants to use a Kickboxing-based workout program.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for advanced beginners and intermediates
Chad Boykin writes a solid book on kickboxing technique and tactics. The book has plenty of illustrative and high contrasting photos to demonstrate his concepts. The book layout is logical and covers a wide variety of bases (those already familiar with weight training and aerobic training may want to skip it). The real value of the book, I believe, is in his use of combinations and pad drills. These parts provide a great reference and empower the intermediate fighter in making his/her own favorite personal combinations.Too few books provide such detail and examples for this important material...As in any case this provides a good supplement and/or refresher of muay thai, though people truly wanting to learn this great style of fighting should start with a qualified instructor.More advanced fighters will not get too much out of this manual; there is very little material on the culture of Muay Thai and how it is practiced in Thailand, very little coverage of principles and mechanics of the style (which should also be addressed for true beginners) and very little on fighting strategy.Boykin provides a solid book for those interested in tactics which ideally suits advanced beginners and intermediate practitioners of the martial sport. ... Product Description
There are three elements of Muay Thai boxing: techniques, tactics and strategy. Most Muay Thai books deal only with techniques. Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is the first book to reveal actual fighting strategies and tactics as taught in the boxing camps in Thailand. Both the author of this book, Mark Van Schuyver, and his partner in this project, Kru Pedro Villalobos, are martial artists. In fact, Villalobos is a professional Muay Thai fighter and trainer who has studied extensively in Thailand with some of the art's most well-known names. And in helping Van Schuyver with this book, Villalobos held back none of the secrets he had picked up in Thailand. Because the elements of timing and the strategies of the Muay Thai system are universal to all types of fighting, this book will be invaluable to Muay Thai fighters and trainers, professional and amateur fighters, and martial artists of all styles, including taekwon do, karate, jujitsu, judo, and no-holds-barred fighting and wrestling. The definitive work on Muay Thai strategies and tactics, Fighting Strategies of Muay Thai is a guide to total fight preparation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great !!
This book is a very good reference. It has lots of good strategies that, when applied into a sparring session, works very well. Not ideal for beginners but a must for intermediate or advance fighters .

Muay Thai is one of the few external martial arts styles I greatly admire. No-nonsense but deep, it is perfect for self defense or competing. So far this is the best book on Muay Thai I read. 5-0 out of 5 stars great book on muay thai!
this book was very very informative on its origin and moves regarding muay thai kickboxing.

i would recommend it, good addition to a library too

2-0 out of 5 stars Please don't buy this! Save your money.
I don't care who your coaches are.I don't want to see pictures of you and random fighters.I don't want to read about your experiences. I don't want to read about why some fighters want to visit Thailand or where Thailand is on a map.I want to learn Muay Thai techniques. There was nothing advanced about the book. There was very little meat. You can learn more by "googling" muay thai techniques. This book was really bad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finaly a real book
The book "Muay Thai: Advanced Thai Kickboxing Techniques" by Christoph Delp shows that the author has gained experience in fighting and training in Thailand. The techniques range from basic up to some I haven't even heard of, despite the years I have worked out in Thailand. This book is very good to use additional to the daily work out in the gym. Of course a book can't teach you how to become a good fighter, but even some "professionals" should take the chance to re-read some of the excellent descriptions regarding the shown techniques! Additional to the good text work, the photos are making it easy to follow the different movements. Reading the book and the included interviews plus viewing the photos of the thai-stars and high officials, gives you an impression on how the special atmosphere in Thailand is like. All in all for me this is the only book that was written out of the view and the experiences of someone (a farang) who lived and practiced in Thailand not somewhere else! Excellent work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Muay Thai
I bought this book in Thailand. Everyone in our camp liked the book, because it is real Muay Thai. Great pictures and professional fighters.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not advanced!
I was really disappointed in this book. I don't know who could benefit from it. It's too elementary for semi-advanced students but doesn't cover basics so it stinks for the beginner!
The descriptions are a little vague and the photos do not explain much. There are a few great action shots but nothing you can learn from. There were too many "portrait" photos of Thai competitors.
Overall I did learn a few things but it was not worth the read ...or the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars used to own it years ago, someone stole it glad to get it back fast shipping
very fast delivery.had book once before some one snagged it from me glad 2 get it back

3-0 out of 5 stars Accurate, factual, humble, dated
The author Zoran Rebac is level-headed and appears immune to the hype and BS often associated with martial arts.He accurately states that muay thai is a hard-nosed ring sport descended from more brutal fighting methods.Rebac is from eastern Europe. This book is a translation, so the writing is fairly concrete; if there were more nuances they were lost in translation.Rebac put in his time; he trained in the camps, did his roadwork and took his knocks.Rebac trained in SE Asia in the early 1980's, so this book predates the rise of Thai Boxing in the US and the aerobo-"kickboxing" fad.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Muay Thai Guide
This is a good book to introduce you to the culture and history of Thai boxing. There are explinations of techniques and an explination of how to generate power. This book seems to be intended more like a documentary into the world of Thai boxing more than a how-to guide. Shots are from Thailand and make the book interesting.

While the techniques of this sport have been assimilated into NHB, striking, and self-defense areas and are used by fighters/martial artists who are not into the culture this book is a great reminder of where the techniques originated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thai Boxing Dynamite, Pretty Good Book.
This book is great for beginners, it is not the best book out there, but it is pretty thourough with good pictures and illustrations. Also another big plus is that it is cheap, and easy to find unlike other books on muay thai. If your just getting started, it is a great investment, for just a few bucks you can learn quite a bit abou muay thai and it's history. If you are a veteran Muay thai person, if you havent read it, just get it, its cheap, and youll enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
My opinion is that this book was extremely well-done. Muay Thai is a rare and unusual, yet highly effective and simple ancient martial art. To the open-minded, this book is a wealth of treasure. I particularly enjoyed the way techniques were presented in a logical and interesteing manner. This one is worth adding to your martial arts library for sure. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
Although I purchased this book in Books-a-Million, I wish I had bought it from here as I would have saved $12-13. When I looked at it in the store, I ignored the foolish title (muay thai and kick-boxing are two completely different sports) and merely gave it a quick overview instead of sitting down and actually reading parts of it. Upon futher inspection of the book, I immediately knew it was a mistake when reading the "About The Author" page in the back. Exactly how does one hold a black belt in a combat sport?

As I flipped through the pages, I noticed that the step-by-step instructions were ALMOST perfectly written out, but severely lacking in the photo aspect of the book. All I saw were pictures of the result, be it on an opponent or just in the air. Overall this book was really not worth it's money, and I HIGHLY recommend "Muay Thai Unleashed" and "Muay Thai: The Most Distinguished Art of Fighting" for anyone serious about learning/training/competing

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome customer service-great book!
This book is awesome. Absolutely great pictures. What's better than that? Getting it for a lot less than in the big book stores. The book was in great condition and I received it very quickly in the mail.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mastering Muay Thai Kickboxing
While not a student of MMA, but an avid follower, I've recognized these techniques as used by such greats as Anderson Silva and others. I've been a student of muay thai for over a year, and I feel this is one of the very best on the market that adheres to strict muay thai technique. One of the few I've read that doesn't bastardize or compromise the explicit technique involved in the tradition of true muay thai. All Photos are explicit, large, and in color, well demonstrated, and the format is excellent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad, But Could Have Been So Much Better
After reading this book I was really torn on how I was going to rate it. I seriously considered giving it a 3 star rating, but then again I didn't want my rating to seem overly harsh since this book isn't really bad, just incomplete. Therefore, I decided to go with a 3 star rating and a 4 star rating with an explanation on both. First, the 4 star rating...

This book shows pretty much the entire arsenal of offensive and defensive techniques in Muay Thai in very clear full color photographs.

The layout is easy to follow and didn't present any problems for me as I was reading this book.

If you, as the reader, look at this book as a basic reference manual for the beginning student, then it really has served its purpose and lived up to its name.

And now the 3 star rating...

However, if you are buying this book with the intent to learn all the ins-and-outs of a particular technique, then you are going to be very disappointed. On almost all of the techniques shown, the only photograph you see is one showing you the end result of that particular technique. For example; when the author shows you a left roundhouse kick and a right roundhouse kick, the only photographs you have are one for each technique where the individual modeling the technique is standing there with their leg fully extended. This type of photographic layout is predominantly throughout the entire book.

The amount of text describing each technique is minimal and is really detrimental to anyone trying to learn how to correctly execute a particular technique. There seemed to be plenty of space available and had the author/publisher used the space available more wisely and perhaps used smaller photographs and a few more pages, might have really made one heck of a good book. Sadly, this is not the case.

Not that this is a horrible book by any means, it simply fell short in several areas when it came to providing a detailed description of the techniques being shown.

If you are looking for a basic reference book to show you the various techniques and a brief description of each, then this is definitely the book for you. However, if you are looking for a book to teach you in great detail the correct way to execute a particular technique, then you need to look elsewhere.

Here are a couple of books that are worth taking a look at.

Allow me to start off by stating emphatically that this is not a bad book at all, it's just simply a very well done book on nothing more than basics, basics, basics! If you are new to the martial arts and training, then this would be a great book for you to own, but if you have any experience at all, then you will probably find this book of little use to you.

The layout and format are very well done and the photographs are in color and printed on glossy paper, always a plus. The author covers such fitness areas as; stretching, dieting, weight training, aerobics, etc. However, these areas are not really gone over with any great detail and as I said before, are pretty basic in nature. This book would be of a greater benefit to someone who was involved in kickboxing, more so that any other martial art, and that is exactly what the title implies.

Here are some additional books on training that you may want to check out as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only basic knowledge on both fitness and stretching
Purchased this book from other book store. I also have a quick reading to finish the book, found out only basic knowledge on both fitness and stretching. Pictures attached are helpful. I only refer to remind me on certain muscle group to both train up and stretching.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures and dissapointing contents
I read this book very fast, the reason was that the ideas and contents of the book were so basic and to be honest, nothing interesting for me. I was looking for advanced tips and contents which I couldn`t find them in the book. Howver, It `s a nice reference book for your library. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars proceed with caution
As an ex student of Bob's I was disappointed to find out that his SAS background was a complete fabrication designed to add credibility to his commercial enterprises. The first review here giving the book 5 stars also appears to be from Bob using a pseudonym. My reason for advising people to exercise caution is that Bob's muay thai credentials are now also in question and therefore this book may not necessarily be relied upon as an accurate teaching guide.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not so Ultimate Muay Thai
This book was too low on detail.Gives very little instruction on HOW to perform moves and the photos are no help at all. While it does give a good background on muay thai history and gives an excellent vocabulary for the moves, I just felt that it was not very helpful for touching up my technique or learning from.If you're looking to learn HOW to do muay thai, I recommend NOT buying this book - you'll be as disappointed as I was.

5-0 out of 5 stars easy to understand
I have previous experience in thai boxing but this book taught me quite a few things to better my performance. It teaches all of the basics such as boxing, elbows, knees, and kicking. When you get right down to it ..its the basics that win the fight not the flashy stuff. The best part about this book is that it comes with a 3 month training regime that if fllowed exactly as it says will make you a dangerous person. The only thing that i felt was incomplete was the "self protection" chapter..not that it was fake or anything its just that it emphasizes that you do not finish off your opponent ......but other than that the chapter is still amazing. Just remember that there is no room for mercy or sportsmanship on the street.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK !
Having read more than my fair share of books on Muay Thai over the years I can honestly say this is one of the best. At last someone who knows what he is talking about! There's even a chapter on clinchwork. Finally a breath of fresh air hits the Thai Boxing scene. The book is only 160 pages but every page is filled with modern up to date techniques. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book on a little known topic
Good information on a little known martial art, by a man directly involved in its evolution. For Muay Thai, Bando and other southeast asian art practitioners, it's a great way to expand your knowledge. Some of the technique and training material may seem generic or redundant to non-sport / combat art practitioners, but it's still a good read.

For historial martial art researchers and multi-art trainers, it's definitely a good buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disapointed
I am very familiar with Ajarn De Cesaris and his work. He is a very well versed practitioner of Muay Thai and Muay Boran. I liked his videos (mostly). I am however very disappointed with the book. I felt there was way too much tooting of his own horn and very little technical information. There was however plenty of historical information and perpectives from the author himself. But over and over again we hear how his organization is the one that did this or that. I know already your contribution and feel it unnecessary to hear it 25 times. I thought that someone as passionate about spreading the Thai National Arts would have given a little more technical information on the actual techniques vs. theories and perspectives. Indeed the only techniques or tricks actually described were the same ones described in Panya Kraitus' book over 15 years ago. Nothing new in the way of techniques here, only a few different angles on the history and traditions. In this book I feel he points out and exploits what to me is the obvious. We know Muay Thai has grown and become accepted worldwide. We know it is generally accepted amongst MMA fighters. We know the author has helped the movement towards the ancient style of Muay Thai "Muay Boran". We know Muay Thai is ever changing. If you have read any of the other books on Muay Thai you also know the basic Mae Mai and Look Mai techniques described in this book. although the authors perspectives are interesting this book seems much more of a marketing ploy to me to get you to buy the authors videos, attend his seminars or join his organization because if you don't... you will actually learn very little from this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book!
This is a must have for anyone who loves Muay Thai. My copy was autographed by Ajarn Chi at a seminar. In is full of the basics which is a must for mastering any martial art. Doesn't have anything on clinch work, but this is volume 1 so I assume there will be another book that adresses this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Historical Book
I've been looking for this book for a while and finally found it. It was recommended by Ajarn Chai Sirisute who I had the honor to meet in 2006 along with Guro Dan Inosanto. It's a great book for historical facts and there are techniques (basics/intermediate) that anyoned can learn. I believe this book would be a great addition to anyone's library of the arts. It is a great book with great historical pictures and is an easy read. Plus a bonus poster in the pocket in the back on Wai Khru Ram Muay. . .awesome.

Much respect.

4-0 out of 5 stars Muay Thai basics
A very good, high quality book about some of the basic techniques in the muay thai arsenal. 4 or 5 weapons of fist, elbow, leg and knee are adressed and explained. Beginners in the sport of muay thai or thai boxing should seriously consider aquiering this book, as it will definitely help their progress. Extras are a bit of the history of the sport, hand wrapping, traditional wear and combination techniques. Each technique is clearly explained with full color photographs. So you apply what you read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome

3-0 out of 5 stars könnte besser sein

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book
Advanced Muay Thai Boran inspired me.The information and pictures are excellent for advanced and people who are better then beginners. This book has a lot of solid information and is well written with perfectly easy to follow steps. For understand this book it is strongly racommended to read the other five books of the author to know and understand very well Muay boran and also basic notions

5-0 out of 5 stars A bible to all martial artist
This book should be considered a bible to all martial artist and students who are serious about studying the Muay Boran. It is very informative and still up to date. As an Instructor I find this book as a great source of reference.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
Given that there is little information available on Muay Boran in any format, I decided to give this book a try. From the product description it sounded interesting at least, but after reading through it I was extremely dissapointed. The format reads more like a series of articles thrown together than a cohesive work. The translation to English is so poor that it makes it almost unreadable. I've never heard elbows referred to as "pokes" or hands referred to as "beaters." Or to paraphrase "to become master in thai art martial required of diligent practices."The whole book is written like that or worse. The pictures at times have no correlation with each other or are cut off halfway on the page, and there is no information on stances, footwork, or actual instructions on how to perform any of the techniques. Apparently the author thinks wearing shorts with "Muay Thai Boran" and wrapping his hands in rope make up for that. Like the review for De Cesaris's other Muay Boran book mentioned, he spends too much time talking about what a savior to the Thai martial arts he is. Funny I can't find any legitimate sources for all the titles he supposedly holds. There is nothing "advanced" about the techniques in this book, and nothing you wouldn't learn after several months of training at a Thai gym. Also, the book states it contains information on the Thai military art of Lerd Rit. Well, it does: A whopping half paragraph of writing and three pages of photos. If you are really interested in Muay Thai I would instead recommend Muay Thai Unleashed By Eric Krauss or Ultimate Muay Thai by Bob Spour. Solid fundamentals are what you build off of, and the techniques shown in those books are consistent with what is actually taught in Thailand. If you are still interested in Muay Boran, look for an ebook called "Muay Thai: The Art of Fighting." While the translation is poor, the pictures are clear and show basically every Muay Boran technique that is known. In short don't waste your money or your time on this book. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Appeals if your stupid, naive or both
This book is basic at best and over rated. How it became as popular as it is and considered a Bible of Muay Thai is beyond me.Then again theres a lot of cowboys and suckers in the scene.

"The most distinguished art of fighting" is written in incomprehensible english complete with bad spelling (the "MASSAE" chapter is a favourite spelling error of mine), poor grammar and more than a little embellishment and exaggeration. No big deal when you get past it but the advice is amateur at best and blatantly wrong in some cases.Read the chapter on Diet if you don't believe me.Any decent nutritionist would put that chapterthrough the paper shredder.Any decent fighter would put the rest of the book in a furnace.

Some of what Panya writes is damned hard to understand and I found myself wondering "what the f**k is this guy on about?!"I believe he lacked the clarity of proper understanding of what he was writing about rather than limited english skills.

Much of the techniques Panya writes about are very traditional and outdated and probably will end up in Kickboxer Part 12 starring Don Wilson.Try doing some of them in the ring and see what happens:)

To his credit he did describe some of the basic strikes correctly such a straight knees and sapping knees even if he did the rest of it wrong. If you look hard you'llfind one or two decentuseful bits of information but nothing more.

Sadly Panya's understanding of boxing is shallow at best and you need good punching skills to get anywhere in this game.

I doubt the author's integrity also. How he could fight full time and became a doctor is beyond me.If he is a real doctor as I refer to his Diet chapter once again. Then again you never know....Good for him if he did make it through but in my personal experience every thai I've met in a boxing camp was from Isaan or a Hill Tribe, born into poverty and illiterate.

I think "Dr" Panya was more an observer of Muay Thai than a serious particpant. That's not a crime but pretending youre a specialist and writing a book is.

In summary it is a book that appeals to the naïve who don't know any better and impressionable idiots who believe that because a Thai writes a book about Muay Thai it must be right-WRONG!

"Truth is what it is, not what you want it to be.You must bend to its will or live a lie."

4-0 out of 5 stars Muay Thai:The most distinguished art of fighting
Well written book by ones that teach Muay Thai.Great details into defense and offense.Any martial artist or beginner will get a tremendous insight into the real deal of Muay Thai.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A top notch book from the homeland of Muay Thai!
This book is one of the best I've ever seen on the subject of Muay Thai (Thai Boxing). It is well written and illustrated throughout. This book covers not only the basic Muay Thai strategies, but also history, cultural significance, pre-fight rituals, training and the author's own personal experience in Muay Thai and in writing this book. I've seen only one Muay Thai book that rivals this one and that is "Muay Thai: A Living Legacy". Although I recommend that book very highly, I must also recommend this one equally as it is just as good. Anybody in any martial art would do themselves a favor by reading this book and for anybody who trains in Muay Thai, this book is one you cannot afford to go without. Muay Thai is becomming very popular worldwide due to its effectiveness in fighting and self defense as well as its simple techniques. It is a fighting style that anyone can learn, regardless of age, gender, physical status, etc. The Thai police and military all learn Muay Thai as part of their training and it is this art that helped Thailand resist the Burmese during many battles. Should one ever decide to take up Muay Thai, he/she will clearly see why it is often called one of the "kings of martial arts". Muay Thai is definitely one of the better fighting/self defense systems out there. This book will also benefit ANY martial arts coach/trainer with its valuable information on how to make their students' training a rewarding experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Muay thai
This is the best book I have ever seen on ANY fighting art. It is laid out in a very understandable format, and the author gets the information of the techniques across very well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding of an ancient art
Anyone who is interested in martial arts is amazed by the reputation of the Muay Thai fighters(Muay Thai is the Thai word for Thai Boxing) . This book is not only an attempt to highlight the most common used techniques of Muay Thai which most books do but gives a very good all round understanding of the history, spirituals, mistiques, training aspects and rules and regulation of Muay Thai. Of course almost all common fighting techniques are well explained and illustrated with numerous pictures. Well set-up are the chapters of the use of arms, legs, elbows and knees (including different attacks and parry's on these attacks). Furthermore real fighting stories of Thai fighters are connected with the techniques which make this book a must for the real fan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thailand Expat Bible - Must Read
If you will visit thailand you must read this book. Honestly, it is filled with tips that will help you stay safe. If you have lived in Thailand many years you might know some of the things in this book. If you are new or have only stayed for 1 year or something, you will really like this book. It isn't a guide book like to tell you where to eat or where to find hotel. It is a guidebook about expats living in thailand and staying safe in all experiences. It covers the poisonous snakes of Thailand, scorpions, alcohol dangers, fights in bars and how to act, the drug and underage girls warnings, scams. It is like reading expat blogs for a year and getting all the good information to help you during your visit. Highly recommended. Must read if coming to Thailand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless "survival" guide
I'm not a writer and English is not my native language too so my comment will be brief but hopefully clear.
I've been in Thailand many times. I've worked in Thailand for almost 5 years. I have Thai friends. I have Thai collegues. I had a Thai girlfriend. And more than 70% of what this gentleman has written in this book sounds something written from a tourist that go to Thailand from time to time just having some wild fun but not for really understanding the people and the country. Sorry Mr. Wilson, we need more interesting and real informations and facts than just your 1 week trips adventures!.. I can't believe you really know this Country as a resident.
Thank you
