Excerpt: Milltown/Castlemaine GAA -The club was founded in 1889, but the exact date is not clear. The club's first appearance in the Kerry Senior Football Championship was the following year. In 1891, Milltown entered two teams. It was the only club to do so. This was a great feat as both teams were composed of 21 players. They has some success with the A team, the Milltown Volunteers, winning a few games, only to be beaten by Laune Rangers. In 1892 the club entered one team. It won the first two games beating Cordal and Tough, only to be defeated by Ballymacelligott. Milltown club then seems to have declined for a few years as it didn't contest the County Championship again until 1900. Excerpt: Ballylinan GAA - body{behavior:url("/w/skins-1.5/vector/csshover.htc")} Ballylinan GAA Local tradition states that long before Ballylinan GAA Club was founded in 1926 and even before the association itself was founded on that historic day, 1 November 1884, the men of Ballylinan Village and surrounding area were involved in playing football games. Early games were played at Rahin which was part of the Estate of Sir Anthony Weldon on a pitch that was extensively used for cricket, but the local lads made good use of this field for games of football. The local men played with various teams in the locality in the early years of the association, Ballylinan men John Wynne, Din Carter Snr, Ned Vaughan and Marks Condron were involved with the Wolfhill team that clamed Laois Senior honours in 1896. It is recalled that Jimmy Wynne of Ballylinan used to walk to Graiguecullen three times a week to train with the Carlow border club. There was a Club at Drimroe, a townsland a mile from the Village, which played in the Laois Championship and it was here that the Wynnes, Luke and John, The Hylands, T...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=6797548 ... Excerpt: Tyrone has been represented in Gaelic football for nearly a century, but until the mid eighties, the Senior team were considered among the weaker teams in Ulster. However, today, Tyrone is considered one of the strongest teams in Ireland, having won All-Irelands in 2003, 2005 and 2008. Tyrone first won the Ulster Championship in 1956, and defended it in 1957, with a team that included the legendary Iggy Jones and Frankie Donnelly. However, for the vast majority of the 20th Century, Tyrone were considered one the weaker teams in Ulster, which itself was probably considered the weakest province. Cavan had been the dominant force in Ulster right up until the 1960s. Tyrone didn't win a third Ulster title until 1973. The Tyrone Minors however won the All-Ireland in 1947, 1948 and 1973. 1973 is remembered because Frank McGuigan, who captained the minor team, was also part of the Under-21 and Senior teams that won their Ulster Championships. Tyrone's first successful era came in the mid-eighties with the star-studded team that included players such as Frank McGuigan, Eugene McKenna, Plunkett Donaghy and John Lynch. In 1980, Kevin McCabe made history as Tyrone's first ever winner of an All Star Award. In 1984, Tyrone won their fourth Ulster Championship, with Frank McGuigan's display in the Ulster Final against Armagh considered among the finest individual performances ever seen in Gaelic Games. He scored eleven points from open play, five with each foot, and one fisted over. In 2004, his display was voted as one of the Top 20 GAA Moments of the previous fort...http://booksllc.net/?id=7803610 ... Read more

Excerpt: Billy Morgan (born 2 February, 1945 in Cork, Ireland) is a retired Irish Gaelic football manager and former player. He played football with his local club Nemo Rangers and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1966 until 1981. Morgans involvement as a player or manager over five decades single him out as one of Cork footballs greatest-ever servants. Billy Morgan was born in Douglas on the south side of Cork city in 1945. He was born into a household that, ironically, had a strong hurling tradition. Both his parents hailed from Galway and, from an early age, Morgans dream was to play hurling for Cork. Over time, however, he became interested in Gaelic football. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=10855789 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Cork - Kerry fixture is one of the most significant sporting rivalries in Gaelic football. While both teams play provincial football in the Munster Senior Football Championship, they have also been frequent opponents in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship since the introduction of the qualifiers in 2001. A Munster football final between these two teams is regarded as a traditional Munster final. The Cork-Kerry rivalry can lay claim to be the greatest rivalry in Gaelic football. As the nearest of neighbours these two teams are also the fiercest of rivals. In spite of an almost annual meeting in the Munster Senior Football Championship, interest in the clash of these two teams has endured over the last 120 years. Kerry are the most successful team in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, leading the all-time roll of honour with thirty-five titles. Cork, in comparison, have only won six All-Ireland titles. The rivalry began in 1889 when these two sides met in the championship for the first time. Cork dominated the first decade, before Kerry found their niche. A brief resurgence by Cork in the early years of the new century was followed by an unprecedented era of dominance by Kerry. Between 1909 and 1943 Cork faced Kerry on sixteen different occasions and, unfortunately, they faced defeat in all of these games. The 1940s saw Cork flourish for a brief period, before ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=23205974 ... Read more

The club had its home at No 7 Cheapside Manchester up until 1953/1954,at this point the Gaelic League club ceased to exist and the Oisin GAA club had no official headquarters , this situation was addressed in 1992 when they joined forces with Old Bedians Rugby and Soccer clubs, where a modern up-to-date clubhouse and playing facilities were built. In 2004 the club celebrated its Centenary Year and published a Book on its history, entitled "An Sceal" Oisin GAA Club. A copy of the book is on display in the GAA Museum in Croke Park. Product Description
International rules football Irish: Peil na rialacha idirnáisiunta; also known as inter rules in Australia and compromise rules in Ireland is a hybrid code of football, which was developed to facilitate international representative matches between Australian rules football players and Gaelic football players. The first tour, known as the Australian Football World Tour, took place in 1967, with matches played in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The following year, games were played between Australia and a touring County Meath Gaelic football team, Meath being that year's All-Ireland football champions. Following intermittent international tests between Australia and Ireland, the International Rules Series between the senior Australian international rules football team and Ireland international rules football team has been played annually since 1998 except for the cancelled 2007 edition, and has generally been a closely matched contest. The sport has raised interest and exposure in developing markets for Gaelic and Australian football and has been considered a development tool by governing bodies of both codes, particularly by the AFL Commission. ... Excerpt: Horeswood GAA -When, in 1889, Martin Kenny handed 10 shillings to County Treasurer, John J. Kehoe, William K. Redmonds Football Club became the first club from the parish to affiliate to the Wexford GAA. The following year, the name of the club was changed to Campile Football Club. At the time, the Senior Championship was the only competition a club could enter and Campile Football Club were drawn against Vinegar Hill in the 1st round. As was often the case in those days the game ended prematurely. Campile claimed a disputed goal and when the referee decided in Campiles favour Vinegar Hill would not accept the decision and refused to continue. The game was awarded to Campile. Unfortunately, the campaign ended in the next round when the team was beaten by Glynn. In 1900 a hurling game was played by Ballinamona Young Emmets against Carrigduff Heroes. The team included Lar O'Brien, Ballinamona, John Carroll, The new road, Martin Kent, Horeswood, Michael Caulfield, Coolerin, Mick O'Connor, Killesk, Martin and John Connolly, Great Island, Jim Sinnott, Ballykerogue, Jim Finn, Ballinamona, John Whitty,Coolerin, James Whitty, Killesk, Tim O'Brien, Ballysop, Jim Culleton, Dunbrody, Pat O'Brien, Ballinamona, Tom and Jimmy Fleming, Great Island, Jim Grace, Grange. However, football remained the dominant game and Campile contested three County Junior Football Finals without success in 1909, 1910 and 1912. Two Campile players, brothers Martin and Jack Howlett, Dunbrody, played on the record breaking Wexford football team of the 1910s. Martin won four All-Ireland Senior Medals from 1915 to 1918 and Jack won medals in 1916 and 1917. During the 1920s hurling enjoyed ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=5623468 ... Read more

The first attempt to start a British colleges Gaelic football tournament was in 1989, but it lapsed the following year and was revived in 1991 by the University of Crewe and Alsager who hosted and won a five-team tournament. Excerpt: Ballykelly Gaelic Football Club is a Monasterevin based Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. Following the progress of many modern GAA clubs, they field teams from U6 to senior in both ladies and men's football. The club was founded in 1953 when a number of players broke away from the Monasterevin club. This is how the story goes, but it is not strictly true because there was a Ballykelly club in existence in the mid thirties and was actually affiliated to it in 1936. This club had the use of George Byrne's field on the Rathangan Road for matches and had clubrooms in what later became Mick Foster's house in Old Grange. The club affiliated for one year - 1936 - but continued on for some years aafterwards. The clubrooms were used for meetings and for playing cards. The club was formed because some players felt that they were being unjustly dropped from the Monasterevin team of the time. The jerseys were bought in Dublin when George Byrne went to Clery's on a motor bike to get them. They were the same colours...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=4239566 ... Read more

Excerpt: St. Brigids (Roscommon) GAA -St. Brigids have captured four county titles since 1997. Under the management of John O'Mahony, they won their first title in 28 years in 1997 after defeating Clan na Gael in the final by 1-8 to 0-8, the goal coming from John Tiernan. They had to wait until 2000 before they reached the final again, but this time lost out to underdogs Kilbride. More defeats came in 2002 to Strokestown and in 2003 to Castlerea St. Kevins. In 2005, under the stewardship of Ger Dowd, they reclaimed the Fahey Cup by beating Padraig Pearses 2-9 to 0-11, both goals coming from John Tiernan. In 2006, under Anthony Cunningham, they defended their title in a tough encounter with St. Faithleach's on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-5, the goal courtesy of Garvan Dolan. In 2007, St. Brigids captures the three-in-a-row when they again defeated St. Faithleach's in the final by 1-12 to 0-9. A goal ten minutes from time by Brendan "Dixie" O'Brien sealed the win. Their Connacht Club campaigns were mixed up until 2006 when they captured the provincial crown for the first time. In 1997 they succumbed to a powerful Knockmore (Mayo) team in Kiltoom. In 2005 they reached the Connacht Senior Club Football Championship Final, after defeating Leitrim Champions Kiltubrid after a replay in Kiltoom. In the final in Pearse Stadium in Galway, they were defeated by the superior Salthill-Knocknacarra (Galway), the eventual All-Ireland winners. However, in 2006 they went all the way and claimed the Shane McGettigan Cup in dramatic circumstances. In the preliminary round they defeated Curry (Sligo) by 1-8 to 1-7.
