He is also a full-time minister serving as Senior Pastor at Niagara Celebration Church in St. Catharines, Ontario area. He attended Archbishop M.C. O'Neill High School in Regina and played for the Regina Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League winning the Canadian Bowl in 1994 and named the most outstanding defensive player of the Canadian Bowl in 1993, 1994, and 1995. He was released during training camp of the 1995 CFL season and returned to the Rams. From the 1997 CFL season on, he has remained on the active roster and, since 2002, has played for the Toronto Argonauts, primarily as a long snapper. Considered one of the best long snappers in football, he first retired after the 2007 CFL season but was lured back by the Argos for the 2008 Toronto Argonauts season. Srochenski retired again after the conclusion of the season only to be re-signed once more on the eve of the 2009 Argos regular season when the Argos again struggled to find a dependable long snapper to replace the 15-year veteran. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=10404897 ... Excerpt: The Canadian Football League or CFL ( in French) is a professional sports league located in Canada. The CFL is the highest level of competition in Canadian football, a form of Gridiron football. Its eight teams, which are located in eight cities, are divided into two Conferences of four teams eachEast and West. The league's 19-week regular season runs from late June to late November; each team plays 18 games with one bye week. Following the regular season, the six teams with the best records (regardless of Conference) compete in the league's three-week playoffs, which culminate in the late-November Grey Cup championship, the country's largest annual sports and television event. The CFL was officially founded in 1958. It is the highest level of play in Canadian football, the most popular football league in Canada, and the most popular major sports league in Canada after the National Hockey League. Although ice hockey is Canada's most popular sport, the CFL has increased the popularity of Canadian football in Quebec and Western Canada. Canadian football is also played at amateur levels (i.e. youth, high school, CJFL, QJFL, CIS and senior leagues such as the Alberta Football League). In Southern Ontario, the CFL is recovering from the bankruptcy that plagued the Toronto and Hamilton teams in the 2003 season. Havin...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=56802 ... Read more

Excerpt: Part of the confusion with American Football position names is that they are based on the role the player normally has in the offense, rather than necessarily his position at the start of the play. Tight Ends, for instance, usually line up to the outside of one of the offensive tackles. However, a Tight End might also line up in the area usually reserved for a Wide Receiver, or even take the place of a Fullback in the offensive backfield; such Tight Ends are usually called H-Backs. You also might not be able to tell the difference between the Halfback and the Fullback by where they are lined up. Their main difference instead is based on their role in the offense (Halfbacks run more, while Fullbacks are usually used to block). On offense, players can be divided into three groups: the interior line, which has five members; the backfield, which has one to four members; and the receiving corps, which has two to five members. Two of the receivers must be on the ends of the line and the remainder must be in the backfield. The standard split-back formation shown above has five interior linemen (Left Tackle, Left Guard, Center, Right Guard, Right Tackle), three players (exclusive of receivers) in the...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1641244 ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Football for the serious researcher
This book is an excellent source for the true sports historian. Please note this book is of serious academic nature - there are no lionized descriptions of teams, coaches, or players, but instead a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the early origins of football, soccer, and rugby in the United States and Canada. Smith has broken down football into the components which he considers essential (carrying the ball and the system of downs) and explains how convention has held us from correctly identifying early field games as soccer/rugby/football. I myself have researched college football for nearly 20 years and I have long thought considering 1869 as the 'first' season was never fully correct since more than one sport can be traced to that game (and even before). Smith has done an excellent job of allowing me to see the picture more clearly. Very much looking forward to his follow up on football after 1883! ... Read more

Excerpt: The West Division is one of the two regional divisions of the Canadian Football League. Although the CFL was not founded until 1958, the West Division and its clubs are descended from earlier leagues. The first organized football club in Western Canada was the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later the Winnipeg Football Club, a forerunner of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers which was founded in 1879. At the time the sport was generally called rugby or rugby football because its rules were similar to rugby union's, although this would change drastically in the coming decades. The first organized competition in the West was formed in 1888 Winnipeg Football Club, St. John's College and the Royal School of Infantry formed the Manitoba Rugby League, later re-organized as the Manitoba Rugby Football Union. Football was being played in what was to become Alberta and Saskatchewan by 1890, and by 1907 the new provinces had organized their own respective competitions and agreed to adopt the rules of the national governing body, the Canadian Rugby Union. A provincial union was not formed in British Columbia until the 1920s. The three provincial unions then in existence soon set out to create a unified Western Canadian competition, with the view that the Western champion should be able to challenge for the Canadian Rugby Union's new championship trophy, the Grey Cup. To this end, the Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta unions formed the Western...http://booksllc.net/?id=1380912 ... Read more

Excerpt: The 21st Canadian Parliament was in session from September 15, 1949 until June 13, 1953. The membership was set by the 1949 federal election on June 27, 1949, and it changed only somewhat due to resignations and by-elections until it was dissolved prior to the 1953 election. In 1994, he signed as a free agent with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and split his time between the 'Riders and the Rams, playing 5 games on special teams for Saskatchewan. He was released during training camp of the 1995 CFL season and returned to the Rams. For the 1996 CFL season, he re-signed with the Roughriders, played 10 games then finished the year on the practice roster. Product Description
Gridiron football is an umbrella term used to refer to several similar codes of football played primarily in the United States and Canada. The term refers to the sport's characteristic field of play, which is marked with a series of parallel lines resembling a gridiron. The term Gridiron, although rarely used to describe the sport in Anglo-America (where the sport is more commonly known simply as "football", but "gridiron" is occasionally used to refer to the field by itself), is most commonly used in areas outside the United States, particularly Australia and New Zealand, and to a lesser extent in Great Britain. Gridiron football is distinguished from other football codes by its use of heavy protective equipment, the forward pass, the system of downs, a line of scrimmage, distinct positions and formations, free substitution/platooning (the use of different players for offense and defense), measurements in the U.S. customary units of yards instead of meters (even in Canada, where the metric system remains standard for all other uses), and the ability to score points while not in possession of the ball (by way of the safety). ...
