Disappointed in this book. Not A Patrick D. Smith book that's for sure.
Make sure he is the author only.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Life Story!
This was a funny, touching true life story that I couldn't put down!Definitely a great book for anyone, whether you like rodeo or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an amazing book
I loved this book. It was one of the only books I have read with such a real life country setting. Not only was this guy a wonderful bullrider but was and is a good person at heart. Being raised around cattle and horses made for a great start for a bullrider. I think this book is very enlightening to the life of a bullrider and how hard they work to become what they are. It takes a very special person to climb on the back of a bull, and try to hang on for 8 seconds. They are faced with life and death everytime they nodd there head and come out of those chutes.

I couldn't put this book down. I would recommend this to anyone. Please take the time to read this book and you will soon appreciate the courage these guys have in taking on a bull.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!!
The night my book arrived I burnt supper because I couldn't put it down.I found myself up at 2am reading it. I laughed, I cried and I laughed so hard that I cried reading the stories and remembering the people and places from this book.PeeWee, You did a wonderful job, I am soo very proud of you. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a look into the life and character of a cowboy!! Hurry up and write us another one!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Ride
I met Pee Wee Mercer when I was a senior in high school and we became very good friends and we traveled the high school rodeo circuit in 1985.Only living 10 miles from each other,we did alot of things that year.I went on and served my country, while my partner cont. with the rodeo circuit. This book was such an excellent story of a great bullrider and a wonderful person.Rodeo is a tough life and there's many bruises and broken bones along the way and when you start reading it, you discover what it takes to be a professional bullrider.I went to the hospital just after the accident and as I looked at my little buddy, I just couldn't imagen what the future held for him,but I can say that he's taken something awfully and has done what few people could even dream about . Pee Thanks for all the memories and the stories, will be looking forward to another book soon. Your friend Rowland Cortese ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cody
Cody Braddock has developed a lifestyle that he feels will be the one that suits him.He has had more than one hundred years to develop the lifestyle so he knows a thing or two about what works for him.As a vampire he needs women not just for blood but their sexual satisfaction also feeds him.He has developed into a love'em and leave'em kind of guy, which his current profession as a championship bull rider plays well into.

While he is on top of his profession he is also now thinking of one thing only, vengeance. He is going to hunt down the man he feels is responsible for turning him and his brothers as well as murdering his family, and settle the score. He doesn't count on running into Miranda Rivers.

Miranda is seriously considering an engagement proposal from her boyfriend, even if it was unromantically delivered by email. But, prior to accepting she has decided that she wants one big night of sexual satisfaction, and heads to a cowboy bar in another town to find a man.You see Miranda wants the big "O" in a big way before settling down.

But, will one night be enough for either Cody or Miranda?

Cody is the latest installment of Kimberly Raye's smoking hot Love at First Bite series, and while it is not directly connected with the men of Skull Creek Choppers, it is directly tied to them.I am a longtime fan of this Blaze series and found Cody to be a strong addition to the series.I do have to say that I felt that his character was a little bit wishy-washy, but overall a likeable man; others may not agree.I am hoping there are more coming in this series and that Cody's brothers will get their own books.

I actually listened to the unabridged version of Cody and the reader did a great job.I can get easily distracted if someone is reading in an off cadence etc...But, the reader did a wonderful job and I was drawn quickly into the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars super Texas vampire romance
Bull rider Cody Braddock became a vampire just after the Civil War when he and his brothers returned from the hostilities to their Texas home to find their family dead.Cody notices to his shock in the paper the picture of the face that has haunted him for over a century. The man who murdered his family apparently is alive and well running Skull Creek Choppers.Cody plans to kill him.

Miranda Rivers is looking for one last orgasmic with a capital O fling before marrying. She meets vengeful vampire Cody, who grows stronger with the sexual satiation of the women he has sex with.He has never felt that same satisfaction until now.

The second Skull Creek, Texas vampire romance (see "Once Upon a Bite" in Blazing Bedtime Stories anthology) is a super tale due to fully developed lead characters and the solid support cast. The story line is fast-paced but totally driven by the relationship between the cowboy vampire and the mortal who owns his soul and heart (and another body part). Fans will root for this pair to make it, but can Cody move past vengeance to love after surviving for well over a century on the former.

Product Description

The most famous rodeo champion of all time tells his amazing true story -- and opens a fascinating window into the world of the professional cowboy.

Ty Murray was born to be a rodeo star -- in fact, his first words were "I'm a bull rider." Before he was even out of diapers, he was climbing atop his mother's Singer sewing machine case, which just so happened to be the perfect mechanical bull for a 13-month-old. Before long, Ty was winning peewee events by the hatful, and his special talent was obvious...obvious even to a man called Larry Mahan. At the time the greatest living rodeo legend, six-time champion Mahan invited a teenaged Ty Murray to spend a summer on his ranch learning not just rodeoing but also some life lessons. Those lessons prepared Ty for a career that eventually surpassed even Mahan's own -- Ty's seven All-Around Championships.

In King of the Cowboys, Ty Murray invites us into the daredevil world of rodeo and the life of the cowboy. Along the way, he details a life spent constantly on the road, heading to the next event; the tragic death of his friend and fellow rodeo star Lane Frost; and the years of debilitating injuries that led some to say Ty Murray was finished.

He wasn't. In fact, Ty Murray has brought the world of rodeo into the twenty-first century, through his unparalleled achievements in the ring, through advancing the case for the sport as a television color-commentator, and through the Professional Bull Riders, an organization he helped to build.

In the end, though, Ty Murray is first and foremost a cowboy, and now that he's retired from competition, he takes this chance to reflect on his remarkable life and career. In King of the Cowboys, Ty Murray opens up his world as never before. ... Read more

This book is so much fun to read, I just kept reading until I finished it. This is the story of one of the world's greatest athletes, told with a sense of humor and humility. Ty just tells it like it is all the way through. I first saw Ty on Dancing with the Stars and thought his comments were so funny on that show I wanted to read more. His stories had me laughing out loud in places. This book would make a GREAT movie. I hope someone writes the script soon!

"Let me look, Billie," and Donald reached out his hand for the field glass through which Broncho Billie was gazing down from the summit of Real del Monte upon the plain of Quesco, through which the Pachuca river winds its way. "Maybe I can make out who they are."

Billie handed over the glass without a word and stood expectant, while Donald scrutinized closely a body of horsemen--twenty or more in number--which had halted beside the railroad that connects the little city of Pachuca with the City of Mexico.

"They are not soldiers, that's certain," was Donald's comment after he had inspected the riders carefully for a couple of minutes.

"That's what I thought," from Billie. "They look like a bunch of _vaqueros_ to me; but what would a crowd of fifty cowpunchers be doing in a country where the only cattle are goats?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable gem
I just read this on my new Kindle 3 (which I enjoy so much)
This is written by a pastors wife. She was an Episcopalian who married a Methodist circuit rider about 1860-70 and covers his 30 years of ministry. The purpose of the book is to bring honor to her husband and his work. She is in wonder of his personal relationship with God feeling she only went through motions. She learns from him and he from her also. But while doing this, Corra inadvertently sheds light to her faithfulness to her husband.
They end up in very poor areas of the mountains. Her descriptions of people and their lives is brilliant.I'll just say nothing much changes in human nature.
She brings you into their lives including disappointments, victories, etc.
One quote I especially enjoyed was when she mentioned her husband was covetous of only one thing:salvations. I am covetous of his zeal.
Very interesting are her and her husband, Williams, observations on the liberalizing or 'modernizing' of the Methodist church.
I have not read such a well put together biography in a very long time.As a disciple of Christ, I look forward to meeting William and Corra Harris someday.

Product Description
When Thaine wakes up in the hospital after a bull riding injury, he has a few problems. He doesn’t remember the last five years, or his new boyfriend, and all he wants in the world is his ex-lover Jerry. Thing is, he and Jerry broke up a long time ago, and no one is sure Jerry will come.

Thaine’s best friend Jesse makes the call, even though he thinks it’s a pretty crappy thing to do to the new boyfriend, Drew. Drew is everything Jesse has always wanted, young, optimistic, and hard-working. He can’t believe his buddy Thaine would pass Drew by for an old flame, even if his friend can’t remember the kid.

Jerry is flattered that Thaine still wants him around, and he still carries a torch for his cowboy, so when Thaine asks to go home with him to recover, Jerry agrees, even though he knows Thaine could get his memory back any day…

Can Jerry and Thaine make a future that wipes out their past? And can Jesse convince Drew that he was looking for love in all the wrong places? Can Thaine live without the last five years, or will he remember everything and have to choose between his old life and his new one?

Sean Michael pens a masterful love story in Amnesia, one that will make you believe in the power of love, no matter what the odds.

5-0 out of 5 stars Four Men Whose Lives Underwent a Metamorphisis!
A love thrown away, a love found, a love rekindled, a love reborn. A well developed story, and well developed characters. I loved them all especially Drew. Let us not forget the great sex as per Sean Michael! He made us love some of the characters and hate others - but in the end - it was all good!:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot, sexy and deliciously loving M/M!
The plot here is most refreshing, sometimes bitter sweet, at times disarmingly sweet but mostly just pure charming. The sex is sizzling hot as Sean shows us good old fashioned sex is the most erotic. And this man just keeps getting better at telling it!
2appealing couples here, the explosive and darn hot couple in Thaine and Jerry and the more down-to-earth and no less loving couple in Jesse and Drew. The interaction among his guys is pure chemistry and I love that Sean tells his story from each man's view. These 4 men, 2 stubborn and proud cowboys, one sweet young thing and one tough and filthy rich businessman are most interesting characters and I just wish the story could have been longer. A very enjoyable read indeed. ... Read more

The original Sire Lines, published in 1977 by The Blood-Horse and long out of print, holds a revered place in the annals of Turf history as the preeminent work on American Thoroughbred pedigrees. Now from Eclipse Press’ new imprint, The Blood-Horse Classics Library, comes an updated edition of this important volume, written by the late Abram S. Hewitt.

An Oxford graduate and a lawyer by trade, Hewitt held a deep fascination for equine pedigrees and genetics and wrote prolifically on the subjects for The Blood-Horse, including a series of articles examining the most influential early to mid-20th-century American stallions. These articles became Sire Lines. Eclipse Press is proud once again to offer this classic work to Thoroughbred racing enthusiasts everywhere. ... Read more

Product Description
In Dynasties: Great Thoroughbred Stallions, Edward L. Bowen examines twenty-six horses which have profoundly influenced the breed in the 20th Century and beyond. It traces the evolution of the American Thoroughbred as a product of much imported stock and the subsequent development of "classic" American sires.
Early 20th Century stallions which had a strong influence on American racing include Fair Play, the sire of Man o' War, who is ranked as the top racehorse of the last 100 years. America enjoyed a golden era of racing druing the middle part of the century, due largely to the exploits of such stallions as Bull Lea, Blenheim II, and Sir Gallahad III. These stallions helped America become the source of the world's best racehorses. Their descendants, among them Northern Dancer and Native Dancer, transformed the commercial market for Thoroughbreds in the last three decades of the 20th Century. Today, the names of America's foundation sires appear in the pedigrees of horses around the world.

Dynasties: Great Thoroughbred Stallions also contains stories about the people who had the foresight, and often the good luck, to breed or own these stallions. Great names of the Turf, such as the Aga Khan, Federico Tesio, William Woodward, and Arthur Hancock appear in the book. Author Edward L. Bowen is able to combine history and anecdote in a uniquely informative and entertaining manner.

Dynasties: Great Thoroughbred Stallions will appeal to everyone with an interest in Thoroughbred racing and history. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dynasties; Great TB Stallions---Great book
Thank you for my book. It came quickly, was in perfect condition, and has become one of my favorites!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good reference for horse breeders
Written for horse people, this book serves as an excellent reference but not an outstanding read.I never became comfortable with the author's style, and his annoying habit of reintroducing his favorite source ("Sire Lines" by Abram S. Hewitt) a different way in every chapter really started to bother me.Also galling were the inexhaustible personal anecdotes, which did bring a hint of personality to the book, but often sounded like mere name-dropping.Furthermore, the author frequently omitted explanations of the racing jargon he used, although a few terms were finally defined in the last section of the book.On the other hand, the stories of the various stallions' breeding, racing, and stud careers were very interesting and seemingly well-researched.I appreciated the in-chapter pedigrees as well as the more complete sire line charts at the end. Many black and white photos are included of the famous sires and some of their progeny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book about American thoroughbred bloodlines
Edward Bowen has selected what he thinks are the most important sires of the twentieth century and devoted a chapter to each, giving their own achievements and those of their descendants, as well as information about some of the more interesting people involved. To this end, he has included one or two sire lines that might not actually be the most important, but where their story is particularly interesting. In his introduction, the author acknowledges that the Challenger sire line was selected instead of the Count Fleet or Pharamond lines precisely because it presented a more interesting story. None of them were essential based purely on their importance.

Of course, all the essential lines that are still thriving are there, including Nearco and Native Dancer, who between them have each established several important sire lines. Indeed, a significant proportion of the book is devoted to those stallions and their descendants, which include Storm cat, America's leading sire at the turn of the millennium, and Sadlers Wells, Europe's equivalent.

This book is not a comprehensive guide to sire lines. Although there are charts near the back of the book giving diagrams of the sire lines covered by the book, they do not list once-important but now extinct lines like the Diomed/Lexington line - a line that was already struggling at the beginning of the twentieth century, but somehow survived into the 1980's. Indeed, there is no diagram of the Herod dynasty at all, although a different branch of it survives in Europe, most notably via the Irish stallion Indian Ridge.

Also, the diagrams that are present focus, with few exceptions, on those branches where a stallion was standing in America at the time the book was written. Of course, this is understandable, as it is a book about American bloodlines, but since thoroughbred breeding is international, it is a bit misleading. The Hyperion line is not as close to extinction as the diagram makes it appear, although its long term future is uncertain.

Still, I have learned that the best place to look for comprehensive sire line charts is on the internet, which has the advantage of being more up-to-date than any book is ever likely to be. Despite my reservations about the charts, the author is a great storyteller and the charts will be sufficient for most purposes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book on the Great Sires of the Twentieth Century
Edward Bowen has done it once again with having written a marvelous book about the great sires of the twentieth century and their influence upon the thoroughbred breed. All of the important sire lines are included, such as Nearco, Northern Dancer, Princequillo, Mr. Prospector, Hail to Reason, Nasrullah, Bull Lea, and, in this reviewer's opinion, the greatest sire of them all, Bold Ruler.Bowen gives a detailed biography of each sire and that horse's important descendants.

An added bonus is a section of charts in the back of the book of each sire's male line and the important winners from each of those lines. For example, the chart for Bold Ruler shows all of his male line ascendants, and his important descendants. One descendant, Bold Bidder, has under his name the important race horses Spectacular Bid and Cannonade, and Cannonade in turn sired Caveat who in turn sired Awad and Ops Smile. What is nice about the charts is that they instantly show how so few sires have had so much influence on thoroughbred racing.

I highly recommend this book and the companion book MATRIARCHS. ... Read more
