5-0 out of 5 stars Great Hunting Tool
This book has seriously transformed the way I think about pursuing mature whitetail deer.I highly recommend this book to anyone that would like to add a new way of thinking into pursuing mature whitetails.Highly recommended!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for real-world bowhunting
If youre a serious bowhunter that knows the basics for locating deer, this book will put all the pieces you already know together and you will have a complete grasp of what you should be looking for in your preseason scouting. Great read for anyone who hunts pressured areas; particularly public land. I grew up hunting west Michigan, where the hunting pressure is one of the highest in the country, and I was always able to put deer in my sights, but I feel that if I had read this book 10 years ago, Id probably have a few trophies on the wall by now.
A few minor complaints about this book though. One, the unrealistic number of stands to prep and have available to rotate to throughout the season. Eberhart says in the book that they prep up to 80 STAND SITES, and the Average Joe who has a family, a full time job, and primarily hunts public land just wont be able to have that many spots set up to hunt. I always tried to get 10 solid public land stand sites, and even that took a lot of effort! Also, not a huge fan of the Ambush Saddle that he swears by. Ive always used a Summit Viper climber and Summit Copperhead portable fixed-position stand that can quickly and quietly be moved from one location to another using a hanging bracket system, and Ive taken deer from both with a bow.
All in all, great read if you want to finely polish your bowhunting skill and put bucks in front of you!

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best bowhunting books you can buy!
I can say without a doubt that this will be one of your favorite bowhunting informational books that you will ever buy.I read 6-10 whitetail hunting books per year and this is definitely one of the top two books i have ever read as far as real world hunting tactics and advice goes. This book made me a better hunter. If you follow the advice, you too will see improved sucess in the feild.
Unlike most other hunting books, Precision Bowhunting is authored for your average Joe hunter. It deals with hunting public lands and ways to capitalize on hunting with other hunters, rather than avoiding crowds altogether. It goes through the an entire yearly process as to what you should be doing at a specific time of season all year long to improve your odds of sucess.
Gun hunter or bowhunter you will find useful information in this book.
If you value your time in the woods and whitetail hunting in general, this is the book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, a must read for serious deer hunters
This book, without a doubt, is the finest book on deer hunting that I have ever read.As an avid reader, I have read a pile of books on deer hunting, most of which were the same information, recycled over and over again. The techniques and strategies in these books are just not applicable to hunting in my heavily pressured home state of South Carolina.
This book is full of fresh ideas that have challenged the way I have historically approached bowhunting.I would recommend this book to anyone, bowhunters and gunhunters alike. It is the most HONEST and PRACTICAL book on hunting mature deer that you will ever read.It will help you to rethink the way you hunt and give you more opportunities at big bucks.I cannot say enough good things about this book.If you live in a state or area where there is alot of stiff hunting pressure, you have got to read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars another great bookby John Eberhart
This book walks through the whole year, what you need to be getting done now, what you need to be getting ready to do. Its all here, how, when, and where you should be hunting through out the season. It rehashes some of his other book " bowhunting pressured Whitetails" both are books I would recomend to any bowhunter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I have shot a bare bow nearly all my life. When I finally decided to buy a new bow with all the accessories, I wasn't sure where to start and how to use all the new stuff. This book was excellent in helping me become familiar with my new bow.The pictures are great and the text very educational.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn or re-learn about the bow and arrow.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Overview book of archery
This book is great for highlighting many aspects of archery and providing information that is useful for a beginner and experienced archer. It is a nice text that compiles information that would be useful to have as a reference. There are tuning methods, suggestions for shooting form, tips on how to fix your bow and add accessories.A very solid book with plenty of pictures for any archery fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE BEGINNING BOWHUNTER
I very much enjoyed this book.It was a great refresher since I haven't shot a bow in quite a few years. It also had lots of great information I didn't know, such as paper tuning, in depth information on arrows and arrow selection. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing in Detail and Information
EVERYTHING you always wanted to know about Bow Hunting but were too intimidated to ask.Being a woman just picking up the sport of bow hunting at age 37 I would walk into sporting goods and archery stores and be overwhelmed by the amount of information I needed to know before I ever purchased a bow. This book helped me know what equipment I needed and what equipment was just smoke and mirrors. It also prepared me for "target panic" and explained in detail about every other facet that I could have ever thought of and even some I didn't consider.Great for anyone just picking up the sport.

5-0 out of 5 stars I hope to become a bowhunnter
i cant say i have any bow hunting skill whatsoever but this book has taught my what to look for in equipment and to practice my posture. i recomend this for people looking for a vague idea on equipment to buy, but not for the specifics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!
I have two books that I read on regular basis, one is the Holy Bible, and the next is "Technical Bowhunting" and I must say this book is by far the best bow hunting "how-to" book I ever read. Buy this book, you won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional work on archery and bowhunting!
I just finished reading "Technical Bowhunting" after hearing about it for the last year. The only regret I have is NOT reading it sooner! It is a tremendous reference and educational piece that you will need to read again and again. From the correct helical, broadhead selection, FOC and tuning, it has it all. Not only does it have the authors input-but also that of many well known bowhunters such as Chuck Adams and Dr. Randy Ulmer.I learned more than I could absorb in one reading and am looking various chapters over again this week. So many questions I have had over the years that I could never find straight answers to where answered after reading this book. I now have more confidence in my selections and the set-ups I choose.

You won't regret buying this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars must have
this book is a must have. joe bell really hits the nail on the head. with a simple and easy to understand way of writing. this book is not only great for the beginner, but a great help to all the old hands who may be suffering from the one or two form problems. also a great read for the target shooter. two of my friends were not content with just borrowing my copy, after the first two chapters, they bought thier own...

5-0 out of 5 stars Super book ! A must read for any bowhunter.
This book covers it all, and then some. From a novice to 25 yr. bowhunter like myself, its full of great information that will help you in every facet. It is not a one time read. You will be going back to it often for tech tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best technical bow book I have read.
Very good book. You can tell the writer knows his subject and has learned his craft through trial and error. His approach was the humblest that I have ever read. Most books the writers relish in their knowledge they have. This writer you know he has knowledge without any boasts or bragging. He is very down to earth and has great communication with the reader. It is filled with practical information that will help you as a bowhunter and as an archer. He also credits those he has learned from, which speaks volumes to me. Part of the learning experience is learning from mentors of which he lists the names of the mentors he has learned from which any bowhunter that reads any of the mainline bowhunting magazines will recognize. Great book that I would recommend to those that want practical knowledge of bowhunting and learning more about the weapon they use. Setups, arrows, arrow rests, ect. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Another hunting book.
I wish I could say that I gleaned some new hunting tips or tactics from this book, but I found little useful information. Nonsense Like hunting two hours before day light will get you arrested where I live. The Ambush Tree Saddle he touts so much is very uncomfortable for any hunt over thirty minutes and many of his "tactics" are just gimmicks that I think he thought would sound good in a book. I doubt anyone anywhere hunts in very cold weather hours before daylight, you would freeze to death. He gives very little details as to how a person is supposed to "hunt all day" then in the next paragraph says "Don't over hunt yourbest stands" or "Don't contaminate them with too much scent" News flash hunting all day will contaminate your best spot. He like all other "Authors" don't give you a clue how to pull off a all day hunt like this, like what do I do with a full days urine. I wish just once I could find a book on hunting that really told you details of how to get whitetails to come to you. I hunt in extremely high hunting pressure areas and none of his stunts will get you anything around here in North Carolina all of the things he wrote I have tries years ago with no effects whatsoever. I do not recommend this book, it is a waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend!!!
This is one of if not the best book into pursuing mature whitetailed deer. What a great approach into explaining the inns and outs of taking mature bucks on pressured land!Highly recommended!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book!
This is a very good book that provides good advice not only for bowhunters, but also gun hunters in pressured areas. This is one of the few useful books/magazine articles I have read, due to its focus on pressured deer.Where I hunt in Mississippi, even private land deer are highly pressured.Only VERY rich people can afford to hunt them on tracts large enough to beat back the pressure. This book provides information that both backed up what I already knew and gave me some new tactics.

1-0 out of 5 stars limited interest
Misleading title. Should be "Bowhunting in small lots in overpopulated areas". Was hoping for more insight to whitetail behaviour under heavy hunting pressure. Not a lot of hunting wisdom. Incorporating ads for scent free clothing and tree slings is a waste of page space & insulting. Poor writing style. Hard to get into.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensible info for real hunters
This book is a great read for those who cannot hunt on guide hunts on game farms, etc. (that's most of us!) The book gives real tips on how to hunt whitetails that you can put to use right away. I liked the book so much I mbought the 3 DVD set that will soemwhat redundant to the text, contained a bunch more great info. These guys know what they are doing and they don't have a ranch or staff of guides, scouts, etc doing the work for them. The DVD series is not however a bunch of hunts captured on video. It is instructional stuff... and good! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book.
Very nice book that gives tips on making the proper shot in certain scenarios. The author explains concepts in simple paragraphs keeping it short. The chapters average about 4-5 pages each so reading this book is a joy. (I'm not much of a recreational reader and this book gets to the point fast. I like that)

5-0 out of 5 stars great book for first time archer / bowhunter
This was a fantastic book.It got me by my hunting certification without any trouble. It has been very helpful and will continue to help me as I continue to learn.Well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great information! Nicely written!
I purchased this book for my husband who makes traditional bows and is just beginning to hunt with them. This books has kept him interested from beginning to end and has taught him a great deal about bow hunting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book for CMPD, Trad, beginner & experienced
I bought this book based on a great review from the bowsite.com.The high ratings are very well deserved and it is well worth the price.

I've been bowhunting for the last 6 years, traditonal for the last 4.I've read dozens of books on the bowhunting and several on target archery. This book is with the best 4 or 5.It covers several topics I've never seen mentioned in other books. The more common topics are like arrow spine are covered in a fresh and far superior way. Most of the chapters have enough overlap that they are worth reading even it "you don't shoot that kind of bow".

Putting this book into practice will make you a better archer and a better bowhunter. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Read!
Enjoyed the book very much. Greg Miller is a a no non sense--down to earth hunter, and writer--he gives great advice--in each chapter--and admits his early mistakes- (which many writers don't do)and explains what he learned from them--anyone beginner or seasoned will learn much from this book.-. I will buy his other books--

4-0 out of 5 stars good ol greg miller
Not as packed as his other books but good any way. This guy is a stud who really knows what the F*** is goin on in the woods.Try it, it will increase your knowledge and maybe youll bring home a wall hanger.Greg miller is all about devotion, if you dont have the heart to hunt 365 this wont work for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars No Miracle Cure
I always hope, when I sit down to read one of these books, that there will be some piece of information in there that will make me say, "ahha! -- so that's it!".Well I've never found one before and this book doesn't have one either.

For example, one of the hardest things about deepwoods hunting is determining food sources.I think his answer was that you have to scout to see what the deer are eating. But, in the deepwoods, what they're eating is probably everywhere -- so what good does that do you?Besides, how, other than by actually catching them in the act, do you determine what they're eating?Since deepwoods deer are so scarce, catching them in the act of eating is going to be very tough.

His big secret is LOTS of scouting and he says it will probably take you 5 years of this type hunting (and all that scouting) before you finally figure things out.

I DO like the way Greg comes across in his books and I found his descriptions of his father's deercamps, his own, early-adult deercamps, and the ones he shares with his son, now,to be touching and definitely one of the better parts of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book
If you are a beginner or just read everthing like me, then this is a good book don't expect much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greg Knows Whitetails!
Greg Miller is one of the foremost experts on the habits of Whitetail deer and the techniques used to hunt them.So much that is written now on the subject can be classified as just warmed over rewrites of previously covered subjects, but Greg Miller's approach is noteworthy because it covers the five "W's" of research - "What, Where, When, Why, and hoW!"He promises no shortcuts but does promise results if the hunter applies himself.Great read and great information.I recommend this book as well as others Greg Miller has written on the subject of hunting for Whitetail deer to anyone aspiring go after this great game animal. ... Product Description
Traditional bowhunters must be close to their quarry before they take a shot, and that nearness is what makes the hunt so thrilling and personally rewarding. That excitement and respect for natural resources and the hunting tradition infuses this unique guide. It covers scouting and mapping techniques along with info on stalking and still-hunting deer and using treestands and ground blinds. A chapter on the whitetail deer population and increases in urban and suburban areas deals with this recent phenomenon and tells how traditional bowhunters can help solve the problem. The book includes recipes for venison and a list of traditional archery suppliers. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of key ideas....
A thousand small key ideas - Well just to give an example.I missed my first two deer off a tripod because I did not know to bend at the waist instead of lowering the bow which changes your geometry. This key idea is outlined in the book among many others like how to guestimate distance to your deer, etc, etc, etc. This book would have kept me from missing two nice bucks clean if I had read it at the time. You know what Samuel Clements (i.e. Mark Twain) stated: "It isn't what you don't know that gets you in trouble, its what you thought you knew that was wrong."This book goes along way to correcting many problems that you would have to figure out by trial and error.White tails permeate this country including the eastern NM mountains where I hunt them and Mule deer in one location - ahhh, the good life.I found this book helpful for that reason.Since reading it, I have ordered several copies for friends. Also, there are several places online where you can read a big section of this book including Amazon and make your own determination. It is confusing as to the only other rater so far gives it one star.I admit it does have a 1960's look to its printing job, but the information is just as valuable no matter what color the pictures. Also it is available used at about $2.00 a pop on Amazon.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very little to do with Traditional Archery or bowhunting
IN 189 pages the author only talks about traditional archery in the section on equipment and tuning the arrow and bow, a mere 27 pages of pure beginner information.

The entire book is more accurately titled "Hunting Eastern Whitetails", you can read the whole book and forget that the book is about bowhunting and especially traditional archery, which the author has a very BROAD definition of, as he considers modern carbon arrows the way to go,says very little about wooden shafts, suggests all modern components except the bow, which as long as it doesn't have sights he considers it 'traditional'.

A very strongly opinionated book, the author is one of those that thinks hunting with modern broadheads, carbon arrows, and scent killers with foam decoys but using a wooden bow makes him "more in tune" and " closer to the earth" than bowhunters using a compound...all because he can't kill a deer beyond 20 yards with his equipment, he makes no mention of compound hunters who might only shoot 20 yards and under..are they suddenly "closer to the earth" because they didn't shoot at 30 yards either?

He is either going to be hated or loved by the reader.

I agree with his statements that ALL whitetails are trophies, not only the monster racked Old Mossy Horn bucks, and he offers both views on things like Hunting Club leases and QDM, but is not qualified to discuss deer biology, as he admits at the end of the book, but does not stop him from writing a section in the front of the book full of incorrect information on whitetail biology, he states that a doe carrying twins and not getting the nutrition she needs will have one twin absorb and 'eat' the other twin in the womb...This is 100% false.

Shed OVA that are not successfully fertilized or fail are re-absorbed but this is barely at an embryo stage, if the author does not know the difference between ova, embryo and fetus then he must not know the difference between a 2 year old toddler and a 40 year old grown man, and should NOT be giving biological advice on animals he has no knowledge of.

The entire book is a run down of all hunting gear ever made and currently in any catalog and how to use it, I honestly would call this book "Beginners Deer Hunting 101" and forget calling it a traditional bowhunting book as it really is NOT.

The experienced hunter may find a few interesting tips in there or ideas but I doubt it, the book never mentions tracking, or blood trailing or following up on your shot, it simply assumes you will scout scout and scout on foot (author says trailcameras and trail timers scare deer away and teach them to avoid that area) and make a perfect shot ( only perfect broadside shots are taken by author) resulting in a deer dropping in sight of you.

The beauty of bowhunting deer is that it allows you to hunt in those small woodlots in sub-urban or rural areas where we all see tons of deer but could never safely fire a rifle, or would want to scare the hell out of people by firing one at dawn in that 40 acre woodlot, the author however only recommends hunting half a mile from any road, hiking trail or easy access point, why anyone would want to walk past all those deer to shoot one as far away from the truck as possible is beyond me, especially when the author says he is not a trophy hunter, though he seems to only shoot 250 pound 10 pointers and 200 pound doe in his stories.
If you want a $20 dollar 190 page product review of everything Cabelas sells this is the book for you, or if you are brand new to hunting and are reading everything you can get your hands on, then go ahead and borrow my copy, but if you are a reader of TBM or a true traditional archery hunter, or want to get into hunting with stick and string, then skip this book and buy "Trailing a Bear" by Robert Munger, it is not instructional but you'll learn more from reading the hunting stories of Fred Bear and Bob Munger and get more from their experiences and frequent misses then from this book. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good on Fundamentals, Very Dated on Technology
This book was written in the late 1980's.Archery and deer hunting have progressed a great deal in the last 20 years.

Bows have changed, the arrows have changed, scent blocking clothing has been introduced and ground blinds have also given hunters additional choices.

On the positive side the author does know how to hunt and shoot and does a good job explaining how to do the same to the reader. An updated edition would be a very good idea.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great overall for the subject
I was impressed by the depth and breadth of the authors knowledge and presentation. It is quite readable and I will use it as a reference for years to come.Someof the advise was related to locale though.I took to heart his "stump shooting" concept as a fine idea and now that I am scouting and setting up my fall hunts I took my bow and some fields points.A hint from and eastern bow hunter... You'll have a hard time getting those arrows out of a hardwood stump! GREAT BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable Reference
Since I got my first compound bow this winter Iresearched at the library for books for beginners. I found this book and have not been willing to return it to the library. It is such a valuable reference I decided Ishould buy a copy. There is a certain amount of information here which might prove useful to a bowhunter who is just getting into the sport. But I have to say, the author loses credibility with me when he can't even get the name of one of the sport's most important figures right. At first when I read "Saxon" Pope I thought--"here's a typo" but the misspelling continued throughout the book. For the record: it is SAXTON Pope. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Read
Enjoyed this book very much, I wish it would never end, and at the same time could not put it down.
Mike Lamade is a very entertaining and honest writer--I like to meet him someday..

5-0 out of 5 stars A Collection of Bowhunting Adventures
I've deer hunted with a rifle but never with a bow. I'd like to learn and then give it a try.

Breathtaking Bowhunts is a book for those that dream of stalking their prey. Mike Lamade is a talented author. He has been hunting for over 40 years. He's traveled from America to Canada and several times to Africa. In his book Breathtaking Bowhunts, he shares his many experiences. From bear to turkey, Lamade has sought his quarry. He stresses safety and responsibility. The rules include "Don't shoot!--unless you've practiced properly, unless the deer is in range, at running game, or if rain or snow is in the way." The photographs add much to this book. He was responsible for making bowhunting legal in the US.

Breathtaking Bowhunts will make a nice gift for the hunter in your life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bow Hunters this book is a must own
Mike Lamade has hunted the continents from Norht America to Africa. One thing I was impressed by is he tells beginners to long time hunters to be responsible hunters. He says more than once "Do Not Shoot." Unless the animal is presenting the proper shot angle for placement in the vital chest area behind the shoulder---do not shoot.

Sometimes people can be so caught up in the hunt that they shoot not taking the time to wait for the proper shot. Then the animal will wonder off and if not found can die a slow death.. Mike has hunted just about every type of game that is allowed. He even went along with afriend who was hunting gators with a bow. While Mike did not hunt he was still taken on a wild ride.

This book teaches you not only about the responsibilty of bowhunting but the history as well. Angus Brown is a professional bow hunter and outfitter in Africa. He was instrumental in getting bow hunting legalized in this country.

I come from a family of hunters. They only hunt for the meat. My husband Larry hunts with either abow or rifle. When I showed him Mikes trophy room his eyes opened wide and he said, "I want to read this book when you are finished."

This is a great book for all outdoor enthusiast.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even if you don't hunt, you must admire the skill needed to hunt with a bow
While I have never gone bowhunting and only went gun hunting once, I am no stranger to the sport. My father was an avid hunter and was gone from before dawn until after dusk every weekend during the Iowa bowhunting deer season. He managed to kill one nearly every year and he is listed in the Iowa record book for the quality of the buck that he killed with a gun.
Therefore, while I have no personal knowledge of the events Lamade relates in this book, I certainly understand the thrills he had while bowhunting. Unlike hunting with a gun, bowhunting requires patience, guile and a cool hand. Even the most talented bowhunters must get within twenty yards to make sure of the kill. Furthermore, they only get one shot so they have to make it count.
Lamade describes his adventures on the North American and African continents. He successfully hunted everything from turkeys to moose to stingrays, including some animals capable of hunting him. His exploits are true and he writes with such flair that it is not difficult to imagine your presence at his side. Lamade is also a hunter in the purest sense of the word. He has very strict rules regarding the shots that he will take, passing on the opportunity to shoot if he is convinced that the probability of the kill is too low.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have To Be A Bowhunter

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Bow Hunting Book!!!
This collection of insights amounts to a treasure chest of hunting wisdom that can improve any hunter that is committed to learning new skills (Whether you're a novice or seasoned hunter).

Great techniques and timely insights make for a very enlightening read.

Put some logs on the fire, kick back and enjoy this book. Then go out and apply what you've learned.

Happy hunting.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not focused enough on the West
This book has some good information and is very thorough. However, the book is geared very heavily toward white tails and Eastern terrain.Hunters looking for tips for mulies should look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a bow hunting book with some scientific validity.
A lot of hunting books are antidotal accounts of the authors hunts and never really give you any solid information. This is NOT one of those. It is a collection of articles written by various big game hunters/authors/experts. Yes, there are some hunting stories, but the vast majority is well researched information put into a form that you can use. It is actually a good read. I find myself not wanting to rush through this so I get full enjoyment out of it. Since this is a collection of articles, it is easy to read one a night before I drift off to sleep and dream and big bucky.
Several articles explain how the rut works in great detail. Some of the information is controversial-such as timing the peak breeding by using the moon-but the research will make a believer out of you. For any hunter looking for even the slightest edge in hunting big game, there will be something in this book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars For any dedicated archery hunter's reference shelf
Compiled and edited by bowhunting expert Lamar Underwood (who is also the Editorial Director of the Outdoor Magazine Group of Harris Publications, New York), Bowhunting Tactics Of The Pros: Strategies For Deer And Big Game is an extensive collection of impressive and informative essays concerning how to effectively hunt game with the traditional bow and arrow. From hunting truly challenging game such as moose, grizzlies, and black bears, to expert-level strategies concerning scents and calls to taking advantage of deer rutting season, Bowhunting Tactics is a first-rate, highly recommended addition to any dedicated archery hunter's reference shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bowhunting Tactics of the Pros
This is a serious Bowhunting book for serious bowhunters. This book took me beyond my current knowledge level (Bowhunting for ten years) and answered several of those questions that seem to have a hundred answers (a different one from everyone you ask).
There is an excellent section on the rut and answers several questions like when is the rut, how does it start, how do deer respond during different parts of the rut and rut hunting strategies.
The first section has excellent chapters on habits including diet, bedding, scraps, and rub lines.
The book also has hunting strategies of several "expert" hunters with some excellent advice on stand placement.
This book has somuch more and I feel there is something for every bowhunter, novice to expert. This one will stay in my library and be passed on to several friends. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I have never written a review before, however after I read the above review of this book I felt I should. This book was EXCELLENT!Not very many hunting books fall into that category or even an Ok category for me however I loved this book.Cameron goes over in detail types of gear needed for the back country along with great tips for lightening up your existing gear. Also covered are hunting tactics that have made my hunting more succesful. Can't recommend this or his other books on Blacktail hunting enough. If however you are not a die hard hunter who will go to any length for your hunt this book may not be for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Backcountry Info
This book has been very informative when it comes to what type of gear you need in the backcountry and how to select it, how you should prepare for the grueling hunt and what it takes mentally once you're out there. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in hunting the backcountry. Cameron Hanes is THE backcountry hunting authority and has become the most successful backcountry bowhunter. Why not learn from the best?

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!
By far the best book on bowhunting I've read. Could not put it down. I've literally stayed up into the wee hours of the morning pouring over it's pages. Great stories, terrific advice. Everything one could want in a bowhunting book. Unlike the rest. You will be glad you bought it. I liked it so much, I am buying a copy for my hunting partner. The only thingI'd love more than this book is the opportunity to go on a backcountry hunt with it's author, Cameron Hanes.

1-0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED
This book, while inspiring, is very poorly written. The author uses language that is conversational and so replete with slang that it barely passes for English. At times I found it very difficult to understand what he was writing about. The book was not very informative and there was way too many words about the author's marathon running success.Besides being poorly written and uninformative, the writer comes off as being cocky. He frequently quotes himself as captions under photographs of himself; clearly a legend in his own mind. All and all, this book was very disappointing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Strategies
I found this book to have a lot of different types of hunting strategies and tips. There are many unique tactics that these guys have found that work. I think becuase most of these hunters do this for a living, they have the time to try and see what tactics works best. Each contributor has his own way of bow hunting and gives a different point of view than the other. Their stories/techniques are practical and, as hunters, we are always looking for that next tactic to bring in a trophy! I enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Very informative and the plain truth. Bartylla is one of the best writers on whitetail bowhunting I have read. His books and Eberharts books are top notch. They cover hunting on public lands, which most of the other writers leave out. Whitetail bucks on public lands are more skittish and wise from the hunting pressure they have endured. Therefore hunting them is the greatest challenge. Steve Bartylla covers the things that have worked for him to take this elusive monarch. Great book! ... Read more
