Excerpt: Arena Football: Road to Glory is a PlayStation 2 video game developed by Electronic Arts (under their EA Sports brand). It was released on February 21, 2007. The cover features fullback/linebacker Bob McMillen, from ArenaBowl XX's champion team, the Chicago Rush. The game includes all the rules, rosters, and teams for the AFL season. For the first time the Arena Football minor league, af2, is included in the series. All of the teams that are competing in the 2007 season are included. EA included the teams from the af2's 2006 season (order they appear on team-selection screen). Players can pan participate in full seasons in the af2 including the Arena Cup game. The following teams were not included because they were expansion teams. The reason for these teams not being included most likely was that they had few or no players on their roster or that they were not announced in time when this game came out. EA has included 38 historic teams in Road to Glory. There are slots for 40 unlockable teams, the other two being the Arena All-Stars and Champs Sports All-Stars. These teams are unlocked through completing certain goals in the game and can be viewed in the user's milestone menu. ... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=9633307 ... Read more

Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Southern Division is one of four divisions of the Arena Football League. It's also one of two divisions within the "American Conference", although they have been part of the "National Conference" from 1995 through 2008. It consists of the Alabama Vipers, the Jacksonville Sharks, the Orlando Predators, and the Tampa Bay Storm. The Vipers were originally known as the Tennessee Valley Vipers, and were members of af2 from 2000-2009. The Sharks are a 2010 expansion team. The Predators were formed in 1992 as an expansion team. The Storm were originally a charter member known as the Pittsburgh Gladiators, who then moved to the Tampa Bay Area in Florida and became the Storm in 1991. The Wranglers left the AFL for af2 in 2008, and the Voodoo franchise folded prior to the cancelled 2009 season. The Southern Division has been marked for its entire existence as being the most brutal and competitive division in the AFL. The Southern Division was formed in 1992 when the AFL first split into three divisions. The League used only conferences in 1993 and 1994, but returned to division play in 1995. The Southern Division has produced 10 ArenaBowl teams and 5 champions. Rivalries such as the Tampa Bay Storm and Orlando Predators, known as the "War On I-4," used to define this division, but the Georgia Force had risen to the top and dominated in recent years before their folding. ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1745916 ... Excerpt: The New York Dragons were an Arena Football League team that was formed in 1995 as the Iowa Barnstormers. In 2001, the team relocated to New York. They played in the Eastern Division of the National Conference. They were coached by Weylan Harding. The team was based in suburban Uniondale, New York at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, also home to the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. The franchise played in Des Moines, Iowa from 1995 to 2001, as the Iowa Barnstormers. The team had been successful in Iowa, having reached the ArenaBowl in 1996 and 1997. From 1995 to 1997, the team's starting quarterback was Kurt Warner, who moved up to the National Football League in 1998 and become a NFL MVP and Super Bowl winning quarterback. The need for a more modern venue as well as the league's desire for a larger market led to the move to the New York City area, despite two failed past attempts in the region: the New York Knights (1988) and the New York CityHawks (1997-1998), both of which played at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan. The team was purchased by Charles Wang, who is also the Islanders' majority owner. The Arena Football organization did award an af2 franchise to Iowa for the 2001 season also called the Barnstormers, but that team folded after that season (only to be brought back in 2008). The Barnstormers were noted for their unique uniforms, which in keeping with the aviation theme included the depiction of goggles on the helmets, wings on the shoulders of the jerseys, and propellers on the pants legs. The primary figures in the original Iowa organization were Jim Foster, the inventor o...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=328051 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Arena Football League (AFL) was an indoor American football league founded in 1987 by Jim Foster. It was played indoors on a smaller field than American football, resulting in a faster-paced and higher-scoring game. The sport was invented in the early 1980s and patented by Foster, a former executive of the United States Football League and the National Football League. The AFL would play 22 seasons from 1987 to 2008 before large debts forced the league to suspend operations in search of a more profitable business model. In December 2008 the league's owners canceled the 2009 season to begin work on developing a long-term plan to improve its economic model. Unable to agree upon a viable economic plan for the future of the league, the AFL suspended operations indefinitely on August 4, 2009, with Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation following in December of that year. On September 28, 2009, the Arena Football 1 league was formed, containing multiple former AFL and af2 teams, and also new franchises; AF1 purchased the AFL's assets (including its history and team names) in December 2009. A new Arena Football 1 league was formed with 16 teams to begin starting April 2, 2010. On February 17, 2010, the AF1 announced it changed its name to the Arena Football League, returning to the original league name. Jim Foster, a promotions manager with the National Football League, conceived the idea o...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=59084 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Iowa Barnstormers are an arena football team based in Des Moines, Iowa. They are set to play their first season as a charter member of the new Arena Football League after competing for three seasons in the Arenafootball2 league and for six seasons in the original Arena Football League. The franchise was granted when the former Arena Football League team of the same name moved to New York as the New York Dragons for the 2001 season. In 2001, the team's first season of playing in Arenafootball2, the Barnstormers played in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium (a/k/a "The Barn). They finished 9-7 overall, missing the playoffs and suspending operations the very next year until 2008. On April 25, 1994, the Arena Football League approved an expansion team to be based in Des Moines, Iowa, starting with the 1995 season. The team was to be owned by Jim Foster, the inventor of arena football and the founder of the Arena Football League. On May 12, 1995, the Barnstormers played their first regular season game, on the road against the Milwaukee Mustangs. In a wild finish that saw both teams combine to score 24 points in the final 40.4 seconds of the fourth quarter, the Barnstormers won, 69-61. Excerpt: The Toronto Phantoms was the final name of a team in the Arena Football League, that also operated in New York City and New England. The New York CityHawks were a team in the Arena Football League. Their name was a reference to the peregrine falcon, several of which make their nests on ledges high up on New York's skyscrapers. Despite the failure of the New York Knights in 1988, the AFL decided once again to make an effort to establish a team in the nation's largest media market, and granted a franchise to the New York CityHawks prior to the 1997 season. The major circumstance that differentiated this situation from that of the Knights was that the CityHawks' owners were also the owners of their home arena Madison Square Garden, whereas the Knights had been tenants there. The Arena Football League had intended to re-enter the New York market in 1997 by putting an expansion team in the New Jersey Meadowlands, located just across the Hudson River from New York City. Among the ownership of the new New Jersey team were several ex-NFL players, most notably former New York Giant Joe Morris. In response to the AFL's placing a team in New Jersey, the Madison Square Garden owners requested a team of their own for the Garden. This request was granted by the League with only months to go before the beginning of the 1997 season, while the New Jersey team had been granted several months earlier. The New Jersey team, the New Jersey Red Dogs, thus had twice the preparation time as did the CityHawks going into both teams' initial season of 1997. The CityHawks played poorly, winning only two of 14 games during their first season, despite being led by Head Coach Lary Kuharich, who had coached the Tampa...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=620385 ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Tampa Bay Storm is a member franchise of the Arena Football 1 league which begins play in 2010. They were also one of the founding members of the preceding Arena Football League, then known as the Pittsburgh Gladiators. They are also the last of the original four Arena Football League teams to still exist, marking them as the oldest team in the game's history. They have won five ArenaBowl championships in their existence. They are coached by Tim Marcum. Along with their traditional rivalry, with the Orlando Predators, they share the Arena Football League record for the longest tenure by a franchise in a single market area. They are also the last of the original four franchises (the Chicago Bruisers, Denver Dynamite and Washington Commandos were the other three) to have operated in continuous existence from the formation of the league in 1987 until the present. ... The stadiums are built with little or no standing room, with all seats reserved and priced in correlation to position primacy. Fans fear that these stadiums will cater solely to the corporate and government elite, intensifying class tensions.

Excerpt: Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football was a presentation of the Arena Football League on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Radio and ESPN on ABC. The telecasts were simulcast on ESPNHD, ESPN2HD and ABC HD. The agreement ran from the 2007 season opener until the league folded in 2009. The official name for the ESPN2 Monday night games was called ESPN Arena Football Monday presented by Russell Athletic. ESPN was the original broadcaster for Arena Football games, showing games live in the league's first two seasons, 1987 and 1988. Partially because of turmoil within the league itself, ESPN did not broadcast Arena Football again until 1992, when they broadcast six games and the ArenaBowl on an overnight, tape delay basis. Starting in 1993, ESPN started showing games live or at least not during overnight hours. When ESPN2 was formed, the telecasts began to air more frequently on the new network. ESPN2 began televising a more standard schedule of Arena Football League regular season and playoff games from 1995-1999. ESPN subsequently began televising AFL playoff games from 2000-02. It originally had aired the inaugural ArenaBowl live in 1987, while ABC (under the Wide World of Sports umbrella) aired the ArenaBowl five consecutive years from 199802. On December 19, 2006, ESPN and the Arena Football League agreed to a five-year agreement that includes extensive multimedia rights and a minimum of 26 televised games per season, beginning in 2007 and lasting until 2011.
