Team Handball - Johann & Sandra's Team Handball team handball An introduction to team handball, including links, information, and photos. team handball. Sandra has played Team http://www.johann-sandra.com/handball.htm
Extractions: Team Handball Sandra has played Team Handball since she was a little girl on local and national levels. Team Handball is a sport which is kind of like water polo on a basketball court. It is fast, physical and fun, but few Americans have ever heard of it. We Americans think it has something to do with hitting a ball against a wall with our hand! Not so! Check out this page to find out more. On this page, you will not only find information about Team Handball, but also photos and lots of handball links Team handball is the second most popular sport in Europe (behind soccer), but is little known in North America. Its very name is confusing even to an American who knows quite a bit about sports. The modern game actually grew out of three sports that were developed, independently, in three different European countries: The Czech hazena , the Danish handbold , and the German Torball All three were based on soccer, but essentially replaced the foot with the hand, so that the ball could be advanced by batting or throwing, rather than by kicking. Hazena was being played by Slovak peoples as early as 1892; its rules were first codified in 1906, by a college professor.

Extractions: Overview About the Sport of Team Handball The Game Speed and Skill Scoring ... Defending About the Sport of Team Handball Imagine taking the fast pace of basketball and the team play of soccer, put it on a court measuring 20 meters by 40 meters, add two goals about half the size of soccer goals, and a goal zone like the three-point circle that is off-limits to all but the goalie and you can imagine team handball. One goalie and six court players pass, dribble and shoot with a leather ball the size of a youth soccer ball. Youth games are two 15 minute periods, running time, free substitutions. Scores may reach into the 20's. Audiences are surprised by the amount of contact allowed before penalty and enjoy the fast breaks and leaping scoring styles. Back to Top The Game A team handball ball is an inflated sphere covered with leather. For the men's game it has a circumference of 58 to 60 cm (22.8 to 23.6 in) and weighs 425 to 480 g (15.0 to 16.9 oz). For the women's game it has a circumference of 54 to 56 cm (21.3 to 22.0 in) and weighs 325 to 400 g (11.5 to 14.1 oz). The court is 20 m (21.87 yd) wide and 40 m (43.74 yd) long. Players may hold the ball for a maximum of three seconds and may take a maximum of three steps while holding it. These restrictions do not apply to the goalkeeper in his or her goal area. However, when the goalkeeper leaves the goal area, movement and dribbling rules apply as they would to any court player. The ball can be passed in any direction and also rolled along the ground. A player may fist the ball (strike the ball with a closed fist) but may not throw it in the air and then fist it. Team handball is a fluid and fast game, with the ball moving from one end of the court or field to the other with great speed. Most of the action is concentrated around the goal areas.

Extractions: Team Handball Photo from Deaf USA Team Handball web site (http://members.tripod.com/usadth/Default.htm). Team handball is an official sport of the Deaflympics and the Special Olympics World Games. Players at the Deaflympics compete under CISS rules which require a minimum hearing loss of 55 dB in the better ear. Classification procedures and criteria are described on the CISS web site at http://www.ciss.org . Click on "about," then "regulations," then scroll down to Article 1.3 on eligibility. Players in Special Olympics competition must have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation. They are classified according to a process called divisioning in which athletes are grouped by ability levels for competition. In team handball, divisioning is based upon scores from the four Team Handball Skills Assessment Tests, namely the spot shot, speed pass, dribble, and power throw, as well as the results from early round play. For more information, consult the Special Olympics rules at http://www.specialolympics.org

They realized that there were many academy graduates who still wanted to play but could not, due to their deployments and the lack of Team Handball clubs across the nation. With the addition of a number of Air Force Academy graduates, the team name was changed to Knight Air in August 1998. Knight Air was formed as a way for those of us who love the game to stay involved and play together whenever possible. The Team consists of USMA and USAFA graduates and their friends who are unable to practice together on a regular basis.
