Extractions: Skimboarding is one of my favorite seasonal sports activities. It requires a great deal of agility, skill and strength to manuever the board in a variety of water conditions (and depths). Basically, skimboarding consists of throwing a flat board (similar to a combination mini bodyboard and surfboard) across shallow water (the board "skims"), jumping on it and using the momentum to float across the plane of water. Depending on whether you go for distance or head straight out toward deeper water and a wave, you can execute a variety of jumps, spins, lifts and so on. On a good skim it's not unheard of to travel 50 yards on a breaker heading back out to sea. The sport of skimboarding takes place on a beach where the waves usually crash on the shore. Usually an intermediate skimboarder will stand at the shoreline (where the wet and dry sand meet), run towards the wave, drop his/her board on the wet sand, ride the board on the sand and into the water and try to catch these waves. Beginning skimboarders usually just ride on the sand. The skimboard is much like a surfboard, although much shorter and without fins on the bottom. For a normally sized person, an ideal board is about 4 feet tall 1.5 feet wide. The bottom of the board is smooth so the rider can slide on wet sand. Though skimboarding is a small sport, it is practiced throughout the world. Some countries that are known for skimboarding include France, Japan, Mexico, and especially the USA. Some major skimboarding states in the US include California, Florida, North Carolina and Delaware.

Extractions: fun, and easy to learn! In this page you may: SKIMBOARDING consists in sliding in a slim coap of sea water, with the help of a wooden (more recently FOAM and fiber-glass) board. In theory, and according to PHYSICS laws, as slim the water coaping under the board is, the longer the ride will be, due to the forces between water and board. Of course between theory and practice there is a huge gap. If the water coaping is too slim, the sand absorption, the ground bumpiness and the board´s rugness, leads to failure of theory. As shure as I am nice-looking, the board will get stuck in the sand, and then you´ll have a painful perception in loco , of the gap between the THEORY and PRACTICE. Yap..., because those little bits of sand that we use to build Sand Castles with, when we wore kids, becomes a kind of concrete when you land on it, at high-speed! (autch!) You will learn fast, when there´s enough water for you to ride. The best way is the HARD WAY!!!
