The founder and director, Miss Helen Sealey, is a physical educator at Mark Twain Primary School in the Alvin Independent School District (AISD). In 1987 Jumperoo membership was expanded to include students of Longfellow Elementary school and in 1989, membership was opened to all AISD students. In 1991, the Pure Energy division was added for students in Jr. High and up. We are a private, non-profit amateur athletic organization consisting of student jumpers, parent volunteers, and the directors. Our goal is to teach and develop rope skipping skills, encourage scholastic ability, promote teamwork, and build self-confidence and self-esteem. All of our directors, coaches, and parent volunteers serve without any compensation. All revenues raised through donations, fund raising activities, or our annual workshop are used for the benefit of our jumpers, primarily to purchase equipment and to partially defray camp and competition expenses. Currently, the organization consists of 17 branch offices in different cities and provinces, and each of these offices are headed by a physical education professor who is very interested in rope skipping. In order to achieve its goal, the organization has (1) organized many rope skipping workshops, events, and competitions; (2) developed many written and audio-visual materials on rope skipping; and (3) has given various demonstrations on TV. Up to now, 28 workshops have been held to produce approximately 2000 jump rope instructors. Also, two national rope skipping competitions have been held in Seoul. Internationally, it is expanding its scope of interchange with countries in Asia, Europe, North America, and Oceana. In order to introduce the various technique of jump roping to Korea with the hopes of increasing interest in and changing the attitude toward jump roping, the Korean Jump Rope Association will hold the World Master on October 21, 2001 in Seoul, Korea. This competition will be held in Asia for the first time and therefore has great significance. It is our great hope that many rope skippers and observers from around the world will participate in this competition. Welcome to Korea.

Each element of training is utilized so that form and function is maintained for the desired sport; therefore, each training regime must prioritize the following physical attributes: Flexibility Strength/Resistance Training the Agility work is an extraordinary training concern. To tackle this concern, I use a hybrid of training mediums such as rope skipping, agility ladders, dots, cone drills and other sport specific drills. Of course, much of agility training is sport specific in nature and can only be implemented by the general athlete from either the standpoint of equipment or usefulness. But the first phase of all agility training is something everyone can do: rope skipping. Many followers of stick-fighting and sword-fighting disciplines have used it as a form of SPP because of the tremendous speed generated by the rope as it "cuts" through air. Famed martial artist Bruce Lee included it as a mainstay in his warm-up and the image of Muhammad Ali turning a rope as a young man is the perfect blend of power, agility, and grace. World renowned master of rope work, Buddy Lee, a former Olympic wrestler and two time USMC athlete of the year, has helped illuminate the tremendous benefits for modern sport and those concerned with their general health. Simply put, this might be the perfect exercise for everyone from elite athletes and bodybuilders to the average adult and child.
