Extractions: "Introducing the Hoppers" The "Hamilton Hoppers" are a premier demonstration rope skipping team, dedicated to promoting rope skipping around the world. The team has 28 members, aged 6 to 16, who represent about two dozen schools in the Hamilton-Wentworth area. Over the years, our skippers have been Canadian and World Champions, as well as National Record Holders. Members have also been International Challenge Champions. Several skippers have been honored with civic sports achievement awards. Members have traveled throughout Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe, competing and promoting rope skipping. They have appeared on TV in all of these countries and have prepared videos for the British school system, for Canada's "Jump Rope for Heart" program and for the World Rope Skipping Federation. The team has also appeared on television in Canada, the U.S.A., Britain, Germany and Switzerland. The "Hoppers" perform for the general public (eg. festivals, malls, hospital, retirement homes) and various organizations (eg. Brownies & Guides), conduct workshops for other skipping teams, schools and other sport organizations.

The "Awesome" The Jumping Jacks Precision Skipping Team Box 391 Kingsville, Ontario, Canada N9Y 2G1 Since its inception in 1998, the World Champion Jumping Jacks Precision Skipping Team from Essex County has been going strong. The Club currently boasts twenty-four members, aged nine to twenty-one. What began as a "Heart and Stroke" demonstration team from Jack Miner Public School in Kingsville, Ontario, developed into the "Heart Beats, " and finally evolved into this internationally acclaimed team known first and foremost for its precision group routines. The Jumping Jacks are known for demonstrating a variety of jump rope skills as well as for competing in speed, power and freestyle events with both single and double dutch ropes. They have captured gold medals in Canadian, AAU Junior Olympic, Pan-American and World competitions. On their roster are members who have traveled to such diverse places as Australia, Germany, Hungary, Japan, and most recently, England where the senior members shared jump rope skills as instructors at a "Euro-Camp".

It tones the muscles of the upper body (especially the deltoids and to a lesser degree the chest and upper back) as well as the lower body (especially the calves and the hamstrings). Jump rope promotes definition of the abdominal muscles and it reduces cellulite. For athletes it is excellent, as aside from the cardiovascular training benefits it also significantly increases jumping and running potential. Another important factor is convenience: it can be done every day, and anywhere. It doesnt require any special equipment, or a great deal of space. You dont need to perform an extensive warm-up and you can do it at any time of the day or night. Jumping rope is an excellent cardiovascular (heart/lung) workout. It's comparable to jogging in its benefits, but there is much less impact and so is easier on the joints than running (particularly running on pavements).
