Each year we try to bring you the best music, competition, shopping, and family fun that the area has to offer. Marvel at the dancers, cheer the athletes, enjoy the music, explore your ancestry at the clan tents, taste the food, visit the vendors booths with their collections of mementos from far away,don't miss the sheep dogs and special exhibits, then feel the special tug at your heartstrings as the massed bands march across the field. Extractions: Welcome to the web site for the Halkirk Highland Games, the premiere sporting event in the North of Scotland and the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Every summer up to 5,000 visitors and locals flock to the village of Halkirk in Caithness (pop. 1,000) for a day of traditional and spectacular Scottish sports. The Halkirk Highland Games Association will be celebrating their 100th Games on 26th July 2003. A special centenary cash bonanza of over £2,000 has been added to the prize money. A points system for the heavyweights, athletes, cyclists, dancers and pipers means that the following can be won in each section; 1st £100, 2nd £85, 3rd £70, 4th £60, 5th 50, 6th £40. This brings the total prize money available to over £14,600.

The heavy events, are quite unique: the caber toss - running with a 22 foot log upright and tossing it so it lands on its other end. The caber weighs about 125 pounds. the stone throw - throwing a 25 pound rock, shot-put style

Extractions: This year the Highland Dance competition will be held underneath our big Festival Tent. The tent is also the place to be in the evening when we host our Evening Ceilidh. A full stage will be setup to accomodate two platforms. Patrons and participants alike can enjoy the calm indoor setting where tables and seating will be available. Have you ever seen those "World's Strongest Man" contests on TV? Well imagine those types of events happening right here in Regina! The Heavy events contest is by far one of the most exciting attractions at the games every year. After quickly establishing itself in 1999 as a new contest for the heavy games circuit, our contest attracts top athletes from all over the prairie provinces. This is one of the only events of its kind in Saskatchewan.

Extractions: TARTAN DAY April 6th is National Tartan Day. The U.S. Senate designated April 6th of each year as "National Tartan Day." This resolution recognized the major role that Americans of Scottish descent had played in the founding of this great nation. April 6th was chosen because on that day in 1320 at Arbroath Abbey, the Earls and Barons of Scotland sent a letter to the Pope, asking him to recognize Scotland's independence and acknowledge Robert the Bruce as the country's lawful King. This letter was known as the Declaration of Arbroath. Wear your Tartan on April 6th. Show your Scottish pride and heritage!
