Bull Riding - Cody Nite Rodeo bull riding bull riding is the most dangerous and the most exciting of the rodeoevents. These bulls are very fast, powerful and can weigh as much as a ton. http://www.imt.net/~rodeo/bullride.html
Extractions: Bull Riding Bull riding is the most dangerous and the most exciting of the rodeo events. These bulls are very fast, powerful and can weigh as much as a ton. Consequently, bull riding is saved until the last and no one leaves until the final bull has been ridden. It also draws a lot of participants because the cowboy usually gets a tough, mean-spirited bucking bull - there are no duds - and, therefore, more money can be made. Not only does the bull rider have to stay on the twisting bull for 8 seconds but he has to escape on foot once he gets off. He does have some help reaching safety from the clowns whose job it is to distract the bull and to free the cowboy if he gets hung up in his bull rope . Many a cowboy has been saved from serious injury by the clowns. Horses and pickup men can't be used because cross-blood Brahma bulls will attack the horses. The cowboy hangs on to a loose rope tied around the bull's middle with one hand. He may use a duffletype handle or not, but his free hand can not touch the bull, himself, or the equipment at anytime. Disqualification results if he touches anything or if he gets bucked off. There must be a bell attached to the

Bull Riding The sound of this bell irritates the bull into more robust bucking action He thentakes the rope and wraps it around his riding hand and lays it across his palm http://www.pressrepublican.com/rodeo/bull.htm
Extractions: The Rodeo Cowboy PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding Steer Wrestling The goal of the bull rider is to stay on the bull for eight seconds. It requires balance, coordination, quick reflexes, flexibility and, perhaps above all, a positive mental attitude. Besides the fact that the bull doesn't like a rider on its back, it also has a braided rope around its chest from which hangs a heavy bell. The sound of this bell irritates the bull into more robust bucking action. The braided rope has a handhold in which the rider puts his gloved hand. He then takes the rope and wraps it around his riding hand and lays it across his palm again. When the rider is bucked off, his hand and the weight of the bell will cause the rope to fall from the bull. Two judges score both the rider and the bull, each eligible for 25 points each for a total of 100 points for a perfect ride. The rider is judged on the difficulty of the ride, along with his ability to take whatever the bull dishes out. The bull is judged on strength, power, speed and rhythm. The judges also look at how much the bull spins and if he jumps and kicks with the spin, and whether he jumps and kicks in a straight line or in a big circle. A bull that kicks while his body moves side-to-side increases the difficulty of the ride and gets a higher score. The Rodeo Cowboy PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding Steer Wrestling ... Pro Rodeo Livestock

Dayton Daily News | Dayton, Ohio, News And Information The rodeo always has been a heavy male trip a world steeped in thecowboy mystique and no event is more macho than bull riding. http://www.activedayton.com/ddn/sports/daily/0214arch.html
Extractions: Dayton Daily News On this day of hearts and flowers, these two gals have one thing to say: Valentine's Day is a bunch of bull. And for Mandy Shipskey and Jessica Leigh Carpenter that means just one thing: Love hurts. Hurts their bodies and sometimes their romances back home, but there's nothing achy-breaky about their hearts. Shipskey and Carpenter, who's 20 and lives in Athens, Ga., are women bull riders competing in the World's Toughest Rodeo, which plays Hara Arena tonight and Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday at 2 p.m. While the indoor circuit stops here annually with its saddle bronc and bareback riders, its barrel racers and male bull riders, this is the first time women will be on the bulls at Hara. And while their required rides last just six seconds, it takes less time than that to get a reaction to what they're doing. Over the years, as cowboys often got turned into nothing but rag dolls, kick balls and grease spots by the bulls, cowgirls were relegated to barrel racing or wearing the sash of the local rodeo queen.
Bull Riding bull riding. The Most Dangerous Sport in America . This is the main reason bullriding is so popular, and draws more entries than any other event in rodeo. http://www.lakesiderodeo.com/events/Bullride.htm
Extractions: Bull Riding "The Most Dangerous Sport in America" Sports Writers of America This rodeo event pits man against beast, and poses more outright danger to the contestant than any other sport in the nation. Staying on top of a 2,000 pound, angry, twisting, and bucking bull is no easy feat. This is the main reason bull riding is so popular, and draws more entries than any other event in rodeo. The cowboys attempt to do this by pulling a rope up around the bull, just behind the shoulders, and running the free end through a loose noose in the other end. The cowboy then runs the rope around his hand, clinches his fist, and tries to hang on. His grip is the only thing that keeps the rope in place. The rider also attempts to hold on by digging in his heels and turning his toes out - again not an easy thing to do since the hide of a bucking bull moves easily. Once the ride is over, or if the cowboy is bucked off, he is not out of the woods yet. The rope can wrap around his hand or arm, causing him to get "hung up." This happens when the cowboy is thrown off, and his weight prevents the rope from coming loose. Even if the cowboy has a clean dismount, he still has to get away from the bull and out of the arena. The clowns, or "bull fighters", are there to help and can be the rider's best friend. They are there to move in and help the cowboys get loose from the bull, or to distract the animal so the rider can get out of the arena. Should the bull decide to attack the cowboy or the bullfighters, or engage them in a foot race, things can get interesting very quickly. Rodeo bulls are very independent creatures, and have earned a reputation that is truly warranted.

Extractions: The 15 riders with the highest total score on two bulls qualify for a third round of competition, called the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, which takes place after intermission on the second night. The overall event winner is the bull rider with the highest three-ride total. The format is the same for those Built Ford Tough Series events that are one-day contests except there is only one preliminary round. This means that each cowboy rides only one bull in his attempt to qualify for the Built Ford Tough Championship Round, and a two-ride total score determines the overall winner. You will recieve the total of your riders picks for all rounds they compete in, but the bonus points for round placement and average are not counted.
