Extractions: The Sport of the Future Today! What Is Broomball? The sport of broomball originated in Canada in the early 1900's. Since then, that crude form of the sport has grown into a popular sport on all levels. Men's women's and coed teams participate both competitively and recreationally. Many of us have been exposed to broomball in an entertainment sense where, local media celebrities combat against one another on an ice rink where they play with house brooms and a recreation ball. However, when people witness the silly antics of their nightly news person slipping to the seat of his pants, few of them realize that what they are seeing is the crude form of an actual sport which is sweeping the country. Broomball is played on an ice hockey rink with rules and strategies similar to those of hockey. Players wear padded sponge-rubber shoes, to enhance traction on the slippery surface, and strike a ball the size of a small soccer ball with specially designed brooms made of corn-straw dipped in rubber or solid molded rubber, trying to score into a net which is guarded by a goal-tender. In Your Area Ice arena managers across the country have discovered the benefits of adding a broomball program to fill vacant ice time. Arenas in shopping malls and close to college campuses have been especially successful in setting up recreational programs in consistently empty time slots, and find them expanding into popular attractions. This strategey is not exclusive to northern climates. In fact, some of the best young broomball programs exist in areas of California, North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, and even Florida.

Alberta Broomball The game of broomball was developed in the early 1900's in Canada. The game isvery similar to that of ice hockey with several noticeable differences. http://www.broomball.ab.ca/aboutbro.htm
Extractions: The game of broomball was developed in the early 1900's in Canada. The game is very similar to that of ice hockey with several noticeable differences. The game is played on a regular ice hockey arena with the same intention as hockey and that is to score more goals then your opposition. The one noticeable difference on the ice surface is that in broomball the red line is utilized for off sides; the blue lines are only used as a guide for the referees to determine offensive and defensive zones. In ice hockey the players manoeuver with the aid of skates and shoot a puck with hockey sticks; in broomball the players manoeuver with the aid of specially designed Broomball Shoes and run on the ice. A small rubber, air filled ball ; approximately six inches in diameter is propelled around the ice surface with the aid of a broom One note of interest for any prospective new player; is that the game of broomball is much easier on the pocket book than the game of hockey. A player can put themselves on the ice for the minor investment of approximately $100.00; that being approximately $80.00 for the broomball shoes; $20.00 for the broom; both of which would probably last two years or more. All games sanctioned by the Alberta Broomball Association are refereed by regular paid and carded broomball referees. Anybody interested in playing or requiring more information can E-Mail me at

Iceland Skating Rink Yearround Ice-Sports Activities for all ages, levels, and interests. broomball and Private parties. http://www.icelandsacramento.com
Extractions: Broomball is basically Field Hockey on ice. Players wear special broomball shoes which have a soft rubber sole for better traction ( thats right you run on the ice.. ). Broomballers wield a broom, which is wooden or metal with a triangular hard rubber head. The ball is made of a rubbery plastic and is roughly half the size of a volleyball. The idea of the game is the same as field hockey and that is to score more goals than your opponents in the two twenty minute halves. It is a great social game, is simple to learn but with many skills to master and most importantly great fun.. Come Down and Give it a GO. No skating ability required. On the field, teams have 6 players which include 1 goal keeper, 2 defenders and 3 forwards. According to the IFBA rule book, team numbers can total 20 players allowing for numerous substitutes.
