A classic anaysis of feminine psychology
Although written in the early 20th century this book is well worth reading for both men and women.Almost every male doesn't understand women, regardless of any protestations to the contrary (I'm a male of 73 years and I make this statement based on life long experience and 51 years of marriage).And surprisingly a great many women do not understand themselves.The 21st century has changed a lot of male/female interrelationship but it has not changed the inner workings of the feminine psyche, and that is where this bookby Ms. De, Castillejo proves invaluable.

A great suprise!
The opening lines on the dust cover put it well: "A wise woman wrote this book-a warm woman-a woman who speaks in simple words, uncluttered with psychological jargon, free of esoterica." In many ways Irene C's efforts to find clarity for herself have helped me to find some also. Being familiar with Jungian concepts, I appreciated her experience in showing where they cause confusion or posed limitations.
Her life, and that of her husband, the great Spanish educator Jose de Castillejo, was no less remarkable, having fled from their farm in Madrid before the advancing fascist armies (1936)during the Spanish civil war, they lived in France until the Nazi's invaded that country, finally settling in England where her husband died in 1945. Many greats were fleeing Spain along with them: Pablo Picasso, Jean Gebser, George Orwell....She studied Jungian psychology in Switzerland after the war, and wrote many fine pamphlets on psychological subjets, and poetry, this book being a compilation of some of that along with new material. Her autobiography 'I married a stranger' has been translated into Spanish as 'Respaldada por el Viento'(supported by the wind).
So..this is a little-known classic that deserves many more reviews, more interrnet publicity, and the broad audience that it definitly deserves!

A wonderful introduction to Jung
I agree with the reviewer who said how sad she was that this is the only book by this author. I first read it over 20 years ago-- it was my introduction to Jung, and I keep returning to it over and over again.

One of five key books of my lifetime
Knowing Woman: A Feminine Psychology is, in my view, a must read for every woman, from maiden to mother to crone, who wants to understand her self. Classic books like Anna KareninaAnna Karenina (Oprah's Book Club), Jane EyreJane Eyre (Penguin Classics), and Madame Bovary Madame Bovary (Penguin Classics) profoundly impacted my feminine self awareness as I was growing up.

But of all the books I've read, Knowing Woman:A Feminine Psychology has been my favorite for more than thirty years. Wife loved teh book
My wife had heard of this book from a friend so i got it for her she loved it

Challenging
This is not an easy book for a 21st century woman to embrace.I found it somewhat redundant - the point is made time and again that every aspect of our lives as women is to be put in God's hands through prayer - but the examples actually drove home the point in entertaining ways, so it wasn't boring.The difficult part didn't come because of the Christian teachings in the book, but in the level of faith the author exhorts us to have when we place all aspects of our lives into God's care.There are plenty of scripture references to ensure that sound Biblical principles underly the author's assertions.I hghly recommend this book.

wonderful book for wives and brides to be
I original checked this book out at my local library 2 months before my wedding and received some very helpful instructions from it so I decided to purchase it and read it from the beginning along with the study guide. I've enjoyed reading it and have taken the instruction given to heart.

This is an amazing bookI love it

Best Conservative Study Bible
I was looking for a KJV study Bible for quite a while when I came across this one.I bought one for myself and one for my long time best friend so we could study "together" (we now live 400+ miles apart).We both love it and really appreciated the conservative view presented in the study notes.Many helpful topics for women.I've enjoyed mine so much I also purchased one for each of my daughters-in-law and have presented them to each on their wedding day.Covers many topics, includingheadcovering and submission. Such a wonderful change from the "modern" versions.I would highly recommend this Bible to other conservative women.

My favorite Bible
I have been looking for a bible with conservative, literal study notes.I looked at a lot of King James bibles and was frustrated with most of them.By luck I found this one on sale at my local Christian Book Store, I had a coupon for 10% off any purchase, so I went ahead and bought this book. I was pretty sure it would be just as ridiculous and "modern" as most of the study bibles I had looked at.Wow! what a treat I was in for. This bible addresses many issues that are significant for women, but it also stands alone as an accurate and scholarly work.Headcovering, Submission, Hospitality, Motherhood, Modesty and many other feminine concerns are addressed in a literal and comprehensive manner.There is even a lovely little chart detailing the herbs mentioned in the bible with pictures of each one and details about the way they were used. In addition the letters and words are pretty easy to read.I usually buy large print bibles because of my astigmatism, but this one is perfectly easy for me to read.Besides all of this, it is a lightweight, and compact bible.It easily fits in a medium sized purse.Oh yes, Christ's words are in red too, which is something I always like about a bible.I beleive my search for a great bible is over.I don't usually buy books or bibles specifically aimed at women, but this one really hits the mark.Very Highly Recommended. ... Spiritual Food

Excellent resource
I am excited each time I open the pages of this Woman's Study Bible. I own over 25 bibles and this is one of the best I have used.

The study group I am in will be looking at the lives of most of the women in Scripture to see how to apply or avoid the things we learn from their lives. This bible has profiles on many of the women, deals with subject matters that help you to apply biblical principles, and shows you the role women played in the life of Jesus. Their commentary on the text is very insightful and gives clarification according to the context of the verses.

It is hard to find fault with this study bible. It comes in softcover, hardcover and leather (at reasonable prices). The print is good, nice margins, NKJV text, cross references, concordance and an index of the charts, notes and profiles. There is also historical information. such as, Women and Archaeology, at the beginning of the bible.

I am familiar with several of the contributors and have heard them speak or have read their works. These ladies are of sound reputation in their doctrine and their dedication to the Word of God.

I thank God for this resource and hope every woman who is serious about studying the Word gets a copy for their library. I highly recommend The Woman's Study Bible.

This book will teach you how to live the much simpler life as the "Godly woman" that the Lord intended! It will show you, that you can live both the life of simple, and at the same time, multi-task while reducing unnecessary distractions, and decluttering that calendar of the things that really aren't that important or never really get done anyways! The author teach will teach you that not only is this all "possible", but to truly live happily, it is "vital"!

One of the main things that I loved throughout the book was the "Scripture Memory" at the end of the chapters; that is so important in our day to day living, as it builds one up, and lifts one's spirit to have that word embedded in our hearts! I also found the different workbook sections at the end of the chapters, such as "Choosing the Best" very nicely done.

This book is a perfect Bible study for a "Women's" group, or even for individual study. The author uses scripture, while giving "real life" advice, so that you, as a "Godly woman", can live with the "freedom" and "confidence" that the Lord truly desires for you. After reading this book, you will have gained not only that "confidence" and "freedom", but also a much closer walk with Him.

Becoming
This is my second "Becoming a woman of..." book and I have come to really enjoy the study style and straightforwardness of the author. The chapters are simply laid out with multiple scriptures and a little bit of reading from the author but on the most part it is 85% scripture, which is my favorite part! She does quote the Message version a few times which is a nice change from the NLT, ESV or NRSV that I prefer to use. It takes me about an hour to complete a chapter. I think these books would be great for a women's bible study. If you did the study at the beginning of the week and then pondered on the memorization verse, and began to apply the principles to your life I feel there would be plenty to discuss.

Overall, I enjoyed this bible study. It wasn't terribly challenging but for me getting into the routine was the hardest part. I love the variety of scripture from the Old and New Testament. Along with quotes from inspirational theologians and speakers.

Superb study
Our ladies group at church is doing this book study.It is thought provoking and very easy to read.I appreciate the scriptural references and have been seeing how this book will definitely help me to simplify my outlook.I would recommend it for a study for any small group.

Becoming a Woman of Simplicity
This study was exactly what I needed at this point in my life. For several years, I have felt the need for rest. Not just physical rest, although with three young children, I can always use more sleep. I've been yearning for spiritual rest, to be refreshed and rejuvenated to deal with some particularly difficult challenges in life.

The dialogue between God and the reader at the beginning of the book sets the tone for the rest of the study very well. It spoke to me very clearly, for I have had similar conversations with the Lord many times over the last few years.

Cynthia Heald does a marvelous job of putting this study together. It would be ideal for a small group Bible study, but would work equally well for a woman to work through on her own. Each chapter covers a particular topic related to becoming a woman of simplicity and includes a variety of thought-provoking questions that could be used for group discussion or for personal journaling. I found this book especially valuable for my own spiritual growth and would highly recommend it.

Definitely helped me.
Becoming a Woman of Simplicity, written by Cynthia Heald is the second of her devotional books for women that I have had the pleasure to review. As a mother to young children, I was grateful for the assurance that this godly mentor provided through her book to me, in that she esteemed this "simple though lonely" time in my life where I am able to love on my husband and children without the pressure of ministry or outside work commitments. That it is okay for me to have them as my focus and keep my heart before the Lord through personal times of devotion and quietness, even in my calendar isn't full with things other than laundry, dirty diapers, dishes and dinner, and doctor appointments.
This devotional would be appropriate for a woman of any age, and can be completed either in one's own personal time or during times of fellowship with others as you work through it together. Each of the eleven chapters include "Words From an Older Woman" (based off of the command for the older women to train the younger), Scripture verses for meditation and further insight, questions and suggestions for applications and reflection, suggested memory passages, and applicable quotes from other Christian authors. I enjoyed this book and will definitely be going through the devotional again as the truths and concepts are essential yet ones I can so quickly forget when life is busy or I'm feeling lost in obscurity.

Best Biblical Study Guide
I first purchased the Women of Color Study Bible 10 years ago.It is an excellent resource for information pertaining to the importance of women in the Bible.The role of women of color is an important historical perspective that was never totally addressed in other versions of the Bible.This version highlights and embraces their many contributions.

I have given the Women of Color Study Bible as a gift to my family and friends.I am proud to understand and appreciate my heritage.

HOW THE BIBLE RELATES TO AFRICAN AMERICANS
This outstanding bible opened my eyes to how the Bible really relates to me, an African American woman. It affrims the presence of Africans in the Bible. It also helps to correct the distortions that were taught or told to my people for so many years. I use to believe in the Bible through blind faith, and thanks to this beautiful book,I now believe through knowledgeable faith. I recently bought this study bible and I love it!I hope that one day itwill be available in some of the other translations (NIV, New Living, NASB)as well.I especially love the essays -- they are short, practical,biblically based, and tailored for the realities that many minority womenface.Since many of you reading this review may not be able to physicallyexamine this bible, I'll use the bulk of this review to describe it toyou:

Each book in the bible begins with a summary and outline.In theKing James Version, Jesus' words are printed in red.

Versecross-references appear in the center column of the text.The chainedcross-references are quite extensive compared to other similarly-pricedbibles I have purchased.

Essays appear for each book in the bible. Essays are written by various contributors -- mostly black women who areclergy members, authors, professors, or lay ministers.Each contributorhas a mini-profile in the back of the bible.Many of the contributors arerenaissance women who have allowed themselves to be used by God toaccomplish many things.

Essays are interspersed throughout the bible andare printed on heavy stock paper; a picture of a strip of kinte clothappears the right edge of each essay page.This makes the essay sectionseasy to find.The biblical text appears to be printed on standardonion-skin paper -- this keeps the bible from being bulky.

Great For book study with girls
This study book is great to use as a book study with young girls. I am doing it now with 13 year olds, although I think the questions are a bit challenging for them. I recommend it for 14-18. Leslie is a great author. I highly recommend her book "Authentic Beauty" which goes with the study guide because it not only talks about purity but a young woman's relationship with God. She puts it in a new perspective. Overall great books!

It's a great study guide with lots of questions and quotes to add to a group study.I've found for my youth group bible study their is more questions than we'd ever have time for...but I have lots of options to choose from.The study guide seems to be more geared to post teen women not 13-17yr olds. ... Twelve Extraordinary Women: How God Shaped Women of the Bible, and What He Wants to Do with You
I'm still getting through this book, but I find it very very useful for the middle school girls' Bible study that I lead with two other women. It gives me a lot more insight into the lives of biblical women than I would otherwise have, and that helps us to have good discussion in Bible studies. At times, however, the author is a bit wordy and seems to repeat his points in some of the chapters. Overall, it's a great resource and helps me learn more about being a woman and a Christian.

women of celtic myth
I wanted to learn more about the celtic life, where wormen were in this life and how I could use information to empower women to exceed I have a celtic background and also used the book to delve into my traditions. The book is not hard to read and in a story format, which allows imagination as well as visualization. I would recommend it highly

What in blazes does Freud have to do with the ancient Celts?
Four stars for the actual stories in Moyra Caldecott's collection, _Women in Celtic Myth_. But then I always like a good retelling. I was particularly impressed with "Findabair and Maeve", since the story of Queen Maeve's daughter is obscure. Ditto for the two Scottish folk tales, "The Sea-Maiden" and "The Farmer's Youngest Daughter."

Read it for the stories, SKIP the psychological and/or mystical theory that follows each one. It is completely obnoxious and off-base. The example that really sticks out in my mind is the analysis of Maeve and Aillill as the animal passions and the thinking mind, respectively. Huh? Maeve drinks and fights and has sex, so she represents the id? I don't buy it. Maeve drinks and fights and has sex because the Irish likes stories about people who did those things. Or, if you're determined to read a deep meaning into the myth, at least come up with one that's germane to the culture. If you want to tell me that Maeve's behavior indicates a sovereignty figure, I'll listen. If you want to tell me her myth is a Freudian text written long before its time, I'll just groan and skip ahead to the next tale. This book would have been much better if the modern psychological theory could have been left out.

A wonderful introduction to Celtic goddess devotion
I read this book a number of years ago, and I still love it.Each goddess is given a new myth, based in the old, and written from a new, feminist perspective.If you are into Celtic spirituality at all, I highly recommend this book.If you are a student of Celtic mythology, I also recommend this book, for the different perspective it will give you.It is an easy read, and great introduction to the central goddesses in Celtic mythology.

Great stories
This book takes each of the Celtic goddesses (Irish, Welsh, and Scottish) and devotes a little fictional short story to her.Chapters include "Arianrhod and Bledouwedd," "The Three Etains," and "Emer and the Women Who Loved Cu Chulaind," as well as chapters (or stories) on Maeve, the Morrigan, Grania, Macha, and many others.The stories are based on elements of the actual myth, but because they are new short stories crafted by the author they flow smoothly and are so interesting you can't put the book down..I have found that learning about the myths this way has helped me to understand them much better.Caldecott also has a good introduction discussing the Celts and their myths, and a commentary after each story with added info about each myth and listing her sources for further reading.

This is a great read!
Ms. Caldecott offers interesting history on the Celts in her introduction and also offers insightful interpretations and analysis of Celtic mythological tales after retelling these great stories from the point ofview of the main female characters.A great book -- I highly recommend itfor anyone interested in the genre. ... This is an easy to understand, yet insightful study of the women of the Old Testement.Each lesson focuses on on characteristic that makes that particular woman stand out.It also helps the student to see themselves in light of that characteristic.I would recommend it to both beginning and advanced Bible Students.
