5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book
Virtually every line in this book contains material recommendations regarding contract drafting. All lawyers should read this book at start of career and keep it handy. This book is hard to put down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Especially Good for Financing and Acquisitions Contracts
This is a good book on contract drafting, which I recommend if you write contracts dealing with financing and acquisitions, which is the author's specialty.

For a more comprehensive resource on contract drafting, I recommend Manual of Style for Contract Drafting, Second Edition by Ken Adams. That book, and Ken's web site AdamsDrafting are, in my opinion, the best sources available for advice on contract drafting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic
My only regret is not reading this book earlier in my career. For all first years and law students, it is a must read.If you are a transactional attorney, this book is a great resource.

Charles Fox deserves an award for creating a road map for junior associates.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for the new lawyer on contracts drafting and negotiating
I am a new attorney who just started practicing as a transactional lawyer. I ordered 14 books on this subject. There is no other book that summarized the contracts writing process and the relevant set of legal skills that help in it like this book.
I learned how to darft contracts by doing it while working for a large software company in Seattle. Since I became an attorney, the process became even more interesting (I had many reference points) as I now have the legal skills to add. This helped me combine the hands-on knowledge with the legal theories I learned in school to improve my drafting skills.
The language used is so readable; analogies are thought provoking; techniques explained are useful; and review and interpretation guides are invaluable. Great resource for a new lawyer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you!!
Thank you very much for your prompt shipment and immediate responses to my questions. It was a pleasure buying a book from you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Admin Law Supplement
I use this supplement to review the casebook reading.I'll buy other Emanuel outlines for other classes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Administrative Crunched a little too hard
I have relied on Crunchtime for a variety of classes, and it has always worked out well for me. Unfortunately, this streak was ended with the crunchtime for Administrative Law. The book is insanely small, given the amount you have to pay for it, and is not thorough enough to be of much help on an exam.

I would have appreciated more cases, more citations, and slightly more in-depth coverage. The crunchtime for Evidence does this, so why can't it be done for Administrative law? I ended up barely using this, and scouring the internet for other student made outlines. I would not recommend this for anyone who is taking a law school course in administrative law.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent Review
The Emanuel outlines are a pretty good resource for black letter law, and this is no execption. It has self-tests at the end of each chapter, example short answer and essay questions, as well as exam tips and likely test questions. The sequence is pretty logical, and moves through the APA and the FOIA and Sunshine Acts, as well as case law.

I believe the outline is a little light on the APA, but overall does a pretty decent job of getting the user ready for exams.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little thin but could be worth investing a few bucks
This book is a little thin, but does provide a few valuable tips. If you can get a cheap copy used I would say go for it. It isn't up to the usual CrunchTime standard, but it isn't without value either. The value just isn't there at full price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for young professionals.
This is a great book filled with good advice for young engineers and other professionals entering the workplace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Saver
I read this book in 1990 when I started my Engineering career.I purchased copies of it for the engineers in my department at the time and have always remembered it's advice.I have re-read it several times and and count this little book as one of my most valuable posessions.I still have my original, beaten and worn.

5-0 out of 5 stars A timeless gem
This 60 page pamphlet was originally written in 1944 and re-published in 2001 with minor edits.I am surprised this is the first review, so I will make it longer. It is a gem of practical advice on how to succeed in an engineering organization as an engineer and manager. It should be a must read for everyone in this field. It is amazing how relevant all the advice from 1944 is still today. People don't change! The book was probably written by a mechanical engineer, but was 100% relevant to me - a software engineer and will likely be equally relevant to other cubical dwellers with engineering degrees and their managers.

The language style of the book was preserved from 40s edition and makes the book even more entertaining to read, but I do take its advice seriously. The advice in the book is very simple and aimed at helping novices adapt to engineering environment faster. Good refresher for everyone though.

The advice is related to how to communicate with manager, co-workers and, in general, how to behave to succeed in an engineering organization without sacrificing your principals. It emphasizes that your communication skills are more important than any technical skills you have.Simple things like "strive to be concise" (I wish I was in this review), "be careful of accuracy of your statements", "don't invade domain of another department without consent or fire may erupt", "cultivate the habit of seeking people's opinions", "promises, schedules and estimates are necessary", "show interest in what your employees are doing", " do all you can to protect the personal interests of your subordinates and their families", and my favorite: "do all you can to see that your subordinates get all the salary to which they are entitled". :)There is actually more stuff for managers in this pamphlet, but, as it correctly notes, every aspiring engineer will, over time, have some managerial tasks. All in all, a great quick read to keep you on your game. ... Product Description
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies.

Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it.

Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glotka a whole lot more difficult.

Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood. Unpredictable, compelling, wickedly funny, and packed with unforgettable characters, The Blade Itself is noir fantasy with a real cutting edge. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars reviews misleading
I'm usually not one to dive in like this on a review, but I'm giving it 1 star only because it needs some sort of balance. I have never felt the reviews on something were so far from the mark, I have even speculated astro-turfing.

Characterization is always difficult for any author, and it is evident this is his first published story. His characters have all sorts of unique things, but this does not make them good! A good character has to be compelling, but what we are presented with are completely uncompelling. While they are all full of flaws and nifty unique things, this alone is not enough to make a story! Unfortunately, none of them were believable or empathetic. By the end of the book (which I had to force myself to complete, and then only because I purchased it), I /still/ could care less about all of the characters.

I suspect I'm a bit frustrated because there was a lot of potential, and it just never came to fruition.

Plot is the next unfortunate failure to this book. 3/4-the way through the book and I still had no idea what was going.NO IDEA. The entire book is basically the setup for the fellowship of the ring. The book ends when they all get together and are ready to go fight the evil. 90% of the book could have been cut to make way for the next story, but I felt like it had to be there so it was long enough to make the magic trilogy.

Sure, he does a decent job with his prose. But overall, I feel completely let down. Perhaps the praise raised my expectations, but in my opinion this book does not leave the basic bucket of event-driven fantasy that has no plot and no characterization. This is basically like a Gary Gygax or R.A. Salvatore book--although with a little bit better prose (actually, Salvatore can spin some pretty good prose from time to time, but has had years of practice).

If you want a comparison to a well plotted first-run fantasy book, try The Lies of Locke Lamora. Unfortunately, his characters too are not very sympathetic, although even in that they are better than those in this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Moves way too slowly
I am having a difficult time even finishing this book. It moves slower than molasses in January. I'm not necessarily a fan of hack and slash fantasy, but some action would be nice. I do like the character of Logan Ninefingers. However, this book doesn't provide the audience with much to look forward to, other than the end.

2-0 out of 5 stars contrived, but well-written
This review addresses the trilogy as a whole, which I made the misfortune of purchasing.
Poor Joe is just trying too hard.In his frantic effort to NOT write a contrived fantasy trilogy, he has managed to write a contrived fantasy trilogy. One of the characters is interesting, the others are not nearly so much.As the characters progress, the reader eventually discovers that the characters don't progress at all.The only interesting character completely and criminally reverses character in the middle of the story and ceases to be interesting.

The story is not the boss in this trilogy; Joe's juvenile attempts to be 'edgy' are.The whole experience was very disappointing.I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to give away any spoilers for those who might read these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars You have to be realistic !
Hard paced trilogy , witty and enormously entertaining .
There are loads of ingeniously clever dialogs , well developed characters and equally developed story.
I feel jealous to all who have not started readingand met the characters of Sand dan Glokta and practical Frost .
And yes , the story has an ending , a rarity in world of trilogiesor quadrilogies , pentalogies orhexologies..

3-0 out of 5 stars Requires patience
If you go into "The Blade Itself" expecting the second coming of A Song of Ice and Fire, you'll be disappointed. But this says more about the quality of Song than any deficiencies of "The Blade Itself." It's just not a fair comparison, as A Song of Ice and Fire is on an entirely different level than pretty much anything out there.

This was the mistake I made with "The Blade Itself." I expected too much. On its own, it's an OK novel that left me wanting to read the next book in the series. So "The Blade Itself" was, at the very least, successful in this respect. But that's the problem, too. The book ends up feeling entirely like setup for the second book (and I assume the rest of the trilogy). And we're talking a whole bunch of setup here, nearly 400 pages worth, which leaves about 125 pages of substantial story. These concluding chapters are outstanding; it's just a shame that it took so much effort to get there.

Looking back, I'm glad I had the patience to finish "The Blade Itself." Looking forward, I hope the second and third books can continue the momentum of those last 125 pages... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Its okay.JUST okay
Its okay.I had to get this book for my Communications Law class. It reads easier than most law books

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book
I thought it would be a boring book. Surprise! It is very well written, and it brings tons of historical facts about freedom of speech and of the press in a context of story telling.

5-0 out of 5 stars An accessible, left-leaning overview of first-amendment law
A very familiar, weak joke among my friends is to preface even the most self-apparent advice with the phrase "I am not a lawyer."For example, "I'm not a lawyer, but I'd advise against punching your neighbor in the face.""I'm not a lawyer, but I'd recommend renting The Incredibles instead of Friday the 13th Part 27."

The amazing thing about Anthony Lewis's Make No Law is that it renders that cliched phrase unnecessary.I truly am not a lawyer, but it didn't seem to make a bit of difference while reading this book; I found it a very accessible and readable overview of the history of the first amendment.

Admittedly, that description may not make this sound like a page-turner, but it actually is.In the way that a good teacher can make any subject seem interesting, Anthony Lewis breathes life into even the dullest moments of constitutional history. And when the situations he's describing are truly dramatic (as with the courtroom showdown in the Sullivan case, around which most of this book is structured), Make No Law creates the suspense and intrigue of a great fictional thriller.

It's worth mentioning that Lewis doesn't seem to strive for strict objectivity. In his observations, he frequently advocates for a liberal interpretation of freedom of the press, praising the Supreme Court justices who advanced his views and criticizing as small-minded those who did not.I personally thought that these sections gave depth and context to the facts of the Sullivan case, but those looking for an unbiased journalistic text might look elsewhere.

That minor concern aside, Make No Law is almost perfect as a text for the layperson who wants to understand how one part of the American legal system ticks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another necessary free speech book
There is little to add to the other reviews.Lewis writes well, on a important enough subject. He idealizes the court's creation of, and support for, free speech doctrine. The importance of the Sullivan case is the crux of the book.Justic Goldberg summed up the result: "A public official from recovering damages for a defamatory falsehood relating to his official conduct unless he proves that the statement was made with 'actual malice'--that is, with knowledge that it was false or with reckless disregard of whether it was false or not."It was, according to Lewis, a victory for free speech and important component in the development of free speech doctrine.
The book is a good read for those interested in free speech issues, the history of which are supremely important in understanding the nature and danger of threats to freedom.

4-0 out of 5 stars Why press freedom matters...
A readable account of the libel case that dramatically defined and expanded the scope of press freedom. It's difficult to remember that it was only in the 1960's that these ideas were settled by the Supreme Court.Lewis backgrounds the history of press freedom, or rather government attempts to bridle it by various sedition acts that seemed to appear each generation [Ashcroft's current attempts to inhibit 1st Amendment rights is only the latest in a long series] The last chapters of the book cover libel cases through 1991 when the book went to press. The short section on the Pentagon Papers case is particularly timely.

Product Description

What would happen if a top expert with more than thirty years of leadership experience were willing to distill everything he had learned about leadership into a handful of life-changing principles just for you?  It would change your life.

John C. Maxwell has done exactly that in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership Audio CD. He has combined insights learned from his thirty-plus years of leadership successes and mistakes with observations from the worlds of business, politics, sports, religion, and military conflict. The result is a revealing study of leadership delivered as only a communicator like Maxwell can.

Amazon.com Review
John C. Maxwell offers lively stories about the foibles andsuccesses of Lee Iacocca, Abraham Lincoln, Princess Diana, and Elizabeth Dole in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. Readers can expect a well-crafted discussion that emphasizes the core attitudes and visions of leadership. Maxwell uses the same tell-it-like-it-is approach that he honed in the bestselling Developingthe Leader Within You. For instance, when explaining "The Lawof Influence," Maxwell states that "job titles don't have much value when it comes to leading. True leadership cannot be awarded, appointed or assigned. It comes only from influence and that can't be mandated." Even after Princess Diana was stripped of her title, Maxwell says she was still able to lead a global effort toward banning land mines because of her sophisticated ability to influence others.

If readers are looking for a step-by-step formula, Maxwell's list of "laws" will probably seem too chatty and anecdote driven. There are no specific tips on what readers can do during the next workday to help them become stronger leaders. On the other hand, Maxwell's background as a pastor gives him an inspirational voice and a spiritual context to leadership that many business and church leaders appreciate. --Gail Hudson ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Leadership made fun.... leadership made real
This is one of the few books that I have both read and taught on. There is much wisdom in this book, and in some ways, so much so that it is hard to keep up.This book has simple, yet elegant analogies, and it provides insight into a "better" way to manage. By following just one of the principles outlined in this book, a young or more mature leader will surely gain knowledge and be bettered by the experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!
I love this book.Couldnt ask for anything more.John Maxwell is the best and this book rocks!

3-0 out of 5 stars The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership
Great Book, excellent....I'd recommend reading this book if you are or will be in a leadership / management position.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Informative
John Maxwell's 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership apply to every organization.Despite the formal positions that people hold, leadership matters. If you see a nature special and see the Wildebeests when they are about to cross the crocodile infested river, one Wildebeest will jump in and run across. The others will follow in a giant splashing mass. I'm never sure if the first one is a leader by choice or if he was pushed, but he's a remarkable animal. That's leadership.

Leadership is everywhere only we don't always recognize it because people have titles and are thought of as the leaders. For example, in the U.S. we have the President of the U.S., also known as POTUS by the secret security agents. But as Maxwell's book points out, the 21 laws show President Bush lacking demonstrable leadership abilities.Perhaps it was Vice President Cheney that everybody listened to when he spoke, but it was not Bush. This is an example of the E.F. Hutton law.People in the room would understand that Cheney would follow through and get it done, even though the decision was likely wrong, and that is one rule of leadership.

If people tend to go along with you, follow your lead, then you're a leader.Maxwell feels that we can all learn to be leaders. This is an inspiring book and quite informative.

We used this book as a development tool with several members of management and have received great feedback. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Passed the CLEP!
I used the Barron's Business Law in order to study for the Introductory Business Law CLEP. I studied for weeks using this book. I focused on the sections specified by the college board as being covered on the test. I got a 74/80! I didn't even bother with the REA Business Law book and I tested my knowledge by using the College Board's practice test and that was it. This book is definitely worth the money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Entrepreneurs
I have read numerous books on law while staring companies. This book is one I turn to on a regular basis when I run into legal questions. It is very diverse, offers excellent information in plain language and allows you to speak confidently and intelligently with your lawyers.I think it should be on every entrepreneurs book shelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad deal
The book was in good shape when I got it (and I didn't have to wait long at all). I was a little D: that the practice tests had been written in because that wasn't stated in the product description, but since it was so amazingly cheap I really couldn't bring myself to care. I needed the book to read for a CLEP test and it did the job. I feel quite well prepared.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for every adult.
I purchased this book for CLEP test, and it is very comprehensive. Also, it explains so many legal terms I had heard bandied about as I waded through life that includes contracts and terminology, and the legal system in general.VERY informative, easy to understand, and provides review questions at the end of each chapter. I'm keeping it as a reference. Honestly, this is a subject that should be taught in High School in order to prepare one for life, and this book is a wealth of information.Including shipping, it cost me a little over $6. I anticipate doing well on the CLEP, which will save me a minimum of $1,800 in tuition in books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy
I bought this particular book, not as a legal student, but a small business owner looking for some legal answers and advice. Unlike similar books I had purchased prior to this, this book is compact but detailed enough to answer all of the questions I had. I found the format useful and practical, as it was very easy to locate just about any topic off-hand. I was most surprised about how easy a read it is. It is not pretentious, like most legal books, but begins from the assumption that the reader is new to the subject. A great buy. I would highly recommend. ... Read more

It is a good first start, but isn't as detailed about certain subjects as I would like.I feel like I could have obtained the information I was really interested in by going to the library than spending $26 for the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and insightful
I was a paralegal. I got this book as I only did bankruptcies and hoped to get insight into another area of law. It's great for people who just want knowledge and for those in the legal field and it's not difficult to understand even if you don't know law terminology.

4-0 out of 5 stars law class
I checked out the 10th edition from the Pima County Library for a class I was taking in Criminal law. This book had information in plain language that helped me write a research paper and for other information needed for my class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome..
I just wanted to say that this book is great, awsome.I had checked it out several times at my local library, then I decided to buy it due to all the wonderfull and helpfull information. It goes beyond technical description, breaks it down to be eaisly digestable. Thank you for a wonderfull book,I would highly recommend this book to family or friends.
Not only for law students, anyone who is interested in how the system works.
    Thank you. Sincerly, Tina

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Brief, and Advice Seems Impractical
Note: My primary interest in this book was in the material on encounters with police officers on the street.

I found some light was shed on important aspects of the law regarding individual's rights and obligations under American law when dealing with the authorities. However, I was concerned that the information imparted was incomplete and that the advice given was possibly not practical. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I love these little books.
The best analogy is a professor that goes off on tangents and fills your head with nonstop info. That is a casebook.A concise professor that gets to the point, shows you how to apply the law, and lets you out early is what this book is.it is organized with a brief explanation and then a checklist that walks you step by step through the law.The Civ Pro version is a must but I used various supplements for this class.

I would suggest looking supplements up in the law library and reading a few sections.I used Understanding Criminal Law when Emanuel Law Outlines: Criminal Law and my casebook Criminal Law: Cases and Materials didn't cover the topics well.I only began using Casenote Legal Briefs Criminal Law: Keyed to Kaplan Weisberg & Binder 6 Ed (Casenote Legal Briefs) near the end and really wished I had used it from the start.Emanuel just didn't cut it like the keyed versions, but Casenote and Understanding got me through.

    Product Description

Much has changed in the area of school law since the first edition of The Educator's Guide was published in 1986. In this new seventh edition, the authors have streamlined the discussion by pruning older material and weaving in new developments. The result is an authoritative source on all major dimensions of Texas school law that is both well integrated and easy to read.

Intended for Texas school personnel, school board members, interested attorneys, and taxpayers, the seventh edition explains what the law is and what the implications are for effective school operations. It is designed to help professional educators avoid expensive and time-consuming lawsuits by taking effective preventive action. It is an especially valuable resource for school law courses and staff development sessions.

The seventh edition begins with a review of the legal structure of the Texas school system. Successive chapters address attendance and the instructional program, the education of children with special needs, employment and personnel, expression and associational rights, the role of religion in public schools, student discipline, open meetings and records, privacy, search and seizure, and legal liability under both federal and Texas law. In addition to state law, the book addresses the growing role of the federal government in school operation through such major federal legislation as the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and the No Child Left Behind Act.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Pharmacy Law
It realy served its purpose for my DC Pharmacy Law exam. It is helpful for any state pharmacy law exams together with the materials provided by the state.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book...
An excellent book like all other editions. New medicare regulations are not discussed in this book. Drugs subjected to restricted distribution programmes like ipledge are discussed in detail

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not have some of the content it purported to have
This was a decent review of federal pharmacy law. But, the back of the book states that it covers Medicare and MTM updates, there was no Medicare section in the book. However, the book does contain review questions about Medicare. It seems like when they edited the new addition they just forgot to put it in.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great review book
As a guide for studying the federal law portion of the MPJE, I would highly recommend this book. It was well organized and easy to read. The multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter as well as those at the end of the book were helpful in reinforcing content from all chapters. There are over 300 questions and excellent study tips. The study tips are points you're recommended to know and memorize for the MPJE. My only criticism of the book is that it omitted information on Medicare Part D. There were questions on the subject in the final group of questions at the end of the book, but no chapter or information on the subject to study from. Maybe it was just my copy or is missing from all copies made, I can't say. Medicare Part D did come up frequently on the MPJE when I took the exam. I would use a secondary resource when studying for Medicare Part D. Aside from that, this book is great. I am glad to say that I did in fact pass my MPJE (score of 84) and I owe a large part of that to reading and studying from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book and easy to read

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Sierra Nevada Field Guide
I have acquired a collection of "field guides" as an avid hiker and backpacker. The Laws Field Guide to the Sierra Nevada is the easiest to use, compact edition of all with superb illustrations of plants, trees, wildlife, paw prints, and pretty much everything but rocks that you'll see on a hike!It is exceptionally well organized, also contributing to ease in finding out what you are looking at or have photographed. The scorpion who charged at me in the dark cold night is listed and illustrated and no, I don't feel much better about that! There are far more spiders than I knew about and wonder how many have slept by me for warmth!EEK! A large bird that flew right by us and left a giant white SPLAT near us is there, easily found in the bird section, too. I just love this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent General Field Guide for the Sierra Nevada
This is a great field guide for the Sierra Nevada.
It's quite comprehensive, including wildflowers, trees, mushrooms, insect, butterflies, birds, fish, amphibians, mammals, and even charts of the evening sky.As a general guide, it doesn't go in depth in some areas, but that's the price you pay for having everything in a single book. The wildflower section is particularly good (taking more than 1/3 of the book) and so it's the insect section (I never paid attention to bugs before buying this guide). The guide is based on gorgeous color drawings (rather than photographs), which allows the author to emphasize the characteristics of the subject.
The guide is nicely printed on water resistant paper, but as a result is quite heavy. If you are a minimalist backpacker or hiker, I don't think you want to bring it to the field.
All and all, this is the best general field guide I've found for the Sierra Nevada.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
This is the most amazing field guide I've ever come across! Beautifully illustrated, it covers everything from lichens to cloud formations bringing an authority to each subject at nearly a level that Sibley brings to birds. Usually when a field guide tries to cram together birds with fish with trees and more it fails miserably. Not here. Laws worked closely with dozens of scientists and naturalists to recognize the most important elements of the Sierra ecosystem and the diagnostic features essential to their identification. Many lifetimes of experience are felt throughout this book. Laws has set a new standard for comprehensive field guides across the planet. My backpack will forever be lighter! (Suggestion: purchase at your neighborhood independent book seller) PS - Heyday Books rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic
I don't give a lot of 5-star reviews, but this book is fantastic. Laws' line art is much clearer than the color photos you'll see in more cheaply produced books. This book is clearly a labor of love by someone who has spent a lifetime in the Sierra; who else will tell you that the leaves of western Labrador tea "smell like toilet bowl cleaner?" I particularly like the way Laws has organized the key to the flowering plants; it's much more usable than keys written for professional botanists, but doesn't dumb things down so much as to be useless.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and user friendly field guide
At first I thought I didn't need this field guide, but quickly realized it's worth. My husband and I were cutting wood and stacking it behind the barn when we lifted a tarp and saw a large brown and light yellow snake. We didn't know what kind it was so I got the Sierra Nevada field quide and was able to quickly find a picture of the non-threatening California Kingsnake.Since we have rattle snakes in our area, we were happy to see the Kingsnake in our yard. The book is very user friendly, it uses color codes and pictures to help you go to the right page and find your information.

"Feel it Real" this book has life changing information, and the keys to applying the laws of attraction. I did not want the book to end, the information is priceless. The keys that are shared in this books are step by steps principles one can and should apply in their daily lives. It goes beyond suggestions, but actually show one how to get to their desired point through games and exercises that enhance one's ability to make these suggestions a part of their lives which enhances everything one does from that point on. I understand why a lot of things have happen in my life by my thoughts and things I say and do, and my attitude about things. 4-0 out of 5 stars Easy for learning but too many examples
This book makes learning fairly easy with helpful cases to relate to the information. Each chapter has approximately 7 cases to make the content relatable. The cases also include titles that make it easy to know which term they relate to. One thing that makes it more difficult to get through the material is that they list far too many examples for the topics. For example, when they go through why a physician needs to be caring they list 12 to 15 examples instead of 1 or 2. It's almost like beating a dead horse.

This is a great overview of the book, and is very to the point. The exercises also seem great and like they cover the material well, but after chapter 4 there are no answers in the back of the book so you don't know if you did the questions correctly. (I bought the book brand new...) I bought this to practice for my tests, but now this really doesn't do me much good (it's more like spark notes).

Bennett-Alexander and Hartman's Employment Law for Business, 6/e addresses law and employment decisions from a managerial perspective. It is intended to instruct students on how to manage effectively and efficiently with full comprehension of the legal ramifications of their decisions.

Students are shown how to analyze employment law facts using concrete examples of management-related legal dilemmas that do not present clear-cut solutions. The methods of arriving at resolutions are emphasized, so that when the facts of the workplace problem are not quite the same, the student can still reach a good decision based on the legal considerations required by law, which remain relevant. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Too Much Editorializing
From an instructor's perspective, this book has a number of problems.First, as some other reviewer correctly noted, it is full of opinionated statements that have questionable premises.Second, it is not very well organized. From the legalistic perspective, this book should have a short section that explains some of the basic principles of our law, such as what equity and common law are, the principles of agency law, and so, with an organized approach to the various legal theories that can justify an employment lawsuit. They might have devoted a chapter to laying out the Constitutional provisions, the federal statutes, contract law, the law of agency, and so on.Instead of giving an organized presentation of legal theories of liability, they raise such theories piecemeal, and incompletely. They might have focused their material a bit more instead of spending a lot of effort and devoting a lot of space to a 28-page chapter on race and color that adds nothing but heat and little or no light to the issues of Employment Law/Policy.Chapter Four is simply a waste of effort, except for the Reconstruction Acts, whose current value is worth examining, but remain mostly fringe theories despite recent use.Third, some statements are not supported by evidence. It may be true, for example, that whites think race discrimination is no longer a problem (though I don't believe that) while blacks consider it quite contemporary and real, but no polling data is offered in support of that argument; instead the authors rely on anecdotal evidence.Fourth, given that illegal immigration and employment of illegal aliens has been a hot-button issue for the last several years, one would have expected a better chapter than the one on ethnicity and employment law.Fifth, although labor law has receded as an important topic in employment law, it has certainly receded as a topic for instruction in this text.Considering the ongoing efforts of union officials and corporate leaders to loot employment funds, one would expect some lenthgy treatment of ERISA.Sixth, the writers are not very consistent in their analyses.Compare the arguments in favor of "reasonable accommodation" in disability antidiscrimination law with the argument against HIV testing of health care workers.Their argument is made of tissue paper and can easily be torn apart.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but with reservations
This book is pretty good, but the authors have really expressed their opinions and made it sounds like anything but their opinions is crazy. But if you can ignore that then its a pretty decent Employment law book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best
When I bought the book it said it was in very good condition. In fact the book was not even in great condition or good condition. It was full of highlighted marks, the corners were torn and falling apart.I would not have bought the book had I known all of this.

    Product Description
An engaging, accessible guide to personal empowerment.

The phenomenal success of The Secret points to the great hunger for answers, hope, and change. But what if books like that seem a little too “out there” for you? Enter Deanna Davis, whose down-to-earth approach stems from her own change of heart (it happened at the Olive Garden). In this fun, quirky, and decidedly straightforward guide, Deanna shares the science, strategy, and stories of how to create your ideal life using a universal key to success called the Law of Attraction, whether you seek health, wealth, happiness, success, or anything else, large or small.

The book blends cutting-edge research, practical techniques, and a conversational, light, funny tone to make the information both meaningful and memorable. Like a talk by your favorite college professor, it provides brilliant concepts in a downto- earth manner—an uncommon blend of wisdom, creativity, inspiration, and practical strategies that work. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If you can ignore the Waffle this book is brilliant
I have read 100's of very poor books on the Laws of Attraction in the last few years. I started reading books about goal setting, mind control and success principles in 1985. I have used what I learnt from my extensive reading, coupled with academic qualifications, business and psychology experience, to create a consulting company, teaching seminars to corporations in strategic thinking, marketing, goal setting and business development. I also use the principles to help individuals, by guiding them as a Life Coach, teaching people cognitive methods to help goal set and enhance their lives beyond what they could do on their own. As such, I read as many books as I can on a variety of subjects to enhance my knowledge. I can honestly say, that with all that experience, this book will help everyone who reads it to set better goals and achieve more in their lives, than they would think possible. It is a GREAT BOOK.

As the Laws of Attraction have come into vogue, through films like The Secret, a large number of books have been published with LOA in their title. I have read virtually every one of them and have found many get lost in the voodoo principles that think you can sit, think happy positive thoughts, visualise wealth and as if by magic and serendipity, vast fortunes will miraculously come your way. A whole generation of people have gotten frustrated, when this does not happen for them and they do not understand why the LOA seems not to work for them.

This book answers so many questions, regarding the LOA and why it can fail in so many ways, with so many people. It addresses many issues in its 212 pages. It looks at State, Intention and Action steps. It addresses old negative mental programming and if you download the workbook, will guide you through all the work you will need to do to get into the right state to allow the LOA to work.

Unlike so many other LOA books, this one puts so much emphasis on your own role in your own success. It uses every strategy you could want, from Kaizen to the Sedona Method (A Brilliant Method to get rid of Emotional Negativity) to EFT to get the Laws working for you by releasing past negativity. The workbook helps set new goals and new empowering beliefs that will propel you forward for greater success.

This really is a GREAT BOOK........BUT 212 pages could have been cut down. The first half of the book looks at State, Intention and Inspired Action. It is tedious and so full of utter waffle and waffle and waffle. I speed read and so ignored so much of the self absorbed waffle. The second half is better and it is obvious someone got a grip on the writing style.

If you can ignore the waffle in the first half, this is a great book for anyone who wishes to succeed in life and business with strategies that will help everyone achieve so much more from their lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Working Already!
Wow. This book works. In the beginning of the book, the author shares her experience in the introduction, titled "Manifesting Meals, Mortgages, and Maui Manuscripts: My Story of the Law of Attraction in Action." After reading her 'Olive Garden' story I thought I'd put LOA to the test.

I went to the libary in Santa Monica, which is always packed. I put my attention on attracting a private seat at a table where I can plug in my laptop and charge my phone. What do you know? Within 60 seconds of thinking that intention-- I'm sitting here in my comfortable private seat (in a quiet area) typing this review!

Thank you Deanna, for taking the 'woo-woo' out of the law of attraction and making it practical and accessible to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars OK I bought it
I don't have this book yet, but might get it if I could know more about it. I've read thru all 15 reviews and would love to see one that tells me about the book. Ok, so it's a great book. Would any of you care to elaborate?

Need to update this review. I bought the book and read it. Can't recommend it though. More like a supposed-to-be-funny travel log or something than a self help book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book is excellent for deeper info and understanding.Never hurts to have the same data expressed in different words and experiences.Somehow that always seems to flesh out the ideas a little more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, funny, almost perfect
The Law of Attraction offers a lite and reasonably practical roadmap to being able to create or at least influence the future. It is very readable and even funny in parts, and it held my attention. The problem is, some physicist friends (I know a few) scoffed at the notion of some of its parts about the connection between thoughts and action.I will give it kudos for going beyond The Secret, but I think it falls short of a book called Ordaining Reality. That one goes into some serious physics to explain the connection between thought and future action. It's complex, but it's not lacking facts and science in that regard.I read the Law of Attraction in a weekend. It's taken me six weeks to get through the first eleven chapters of Ordaining Reality.I heard there is a new simpler version of that coming out soon and that may be well worth getting. In short, LoA is good and easy, but maybe not entirely accurate; whereas O.R. is tough and long, but seemingly quite accurate.Take your pick. ...
