This book is amazing! I am neither a mathmatician, historian, or astronomer, but found it easy to understand and highly informative. Even the most complicated parts are explained very well. The most important thing is make sure you keep an open mind and take the book for what it is, the result of years of research based on independant dating methods. I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse of the World History?
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R23HG8UFXDJP8B Mystery of Apocalypse Horoscope.

Sensational discovery - astronomic research proves that Apocalypse - Book of Revelation to Apostle John was written as late as 1486!

Of all the books in the Bible, none has fired our imagination more than Apocalypse - the Book of Revelation to John.

On the Greek isle of Patmos, Apostle John has visions of angels, beasts, the Throne of God, surrounded by the rainbow in the sea of glass, Lamb who turns into the conqueror on the white horse, dragons etc..etc

These verbal images do resemble those from the medieval astronomical and astrological maps. Look at the ancient sky map painted by great Albrecht Durer. Astrology was an essential part of life in 14th 16th centuries; therefore the Apocalypse prophecy edited and printed during this time contains medieval astronomical and astrological images.

The astronomical interpretation of verbal images of Apocalypse yields the following horoscope of planets in the constellations:
Planet Jupiter in Sagittarius, Planet Saturn in Scorpio, Planet Venus in Lion;
Planet Mars in Gemini, close to Taurus, under the feet of Perseus;
Planet Mercury in Balance, Sun in Virgin , Moon under Virgins feet;
The tradition says the Apocalypse was written in 95 AD by Apostle John.

The Apocalypse we know today is the last book of the New Testament. First complete New Testament was edited only in 1515 in Basel, Switzerland by Erasmus of Rotterdam on the basis of half a dozen of sources. The text of the Apocalypse comes from the manuscript Erasmus lent from the German biblical scholar Reuchlin.
The only moment in time when the combination of planets and constellations described in the Apocalypse could have been observed live from the island of Patmos was from the 25th of september 1486 to 10th of October 1486.

So, when was the Apocalypse - Book of Revelation to Apostle John written?

I was probably the first to purchase this hefty book on preorder, but opened it only 2 days ago. I swappped it for potty #7 with my astronomer bookpal and tipped him off how to make easy $10G betting on Almagest. Astronomer read it and returned vol.3 with strong advice not to bet $10G. I sure won't, Almagest was never my cup of tee and Ptolemy no relative of mine. By now my astronomer bookpal purchased his own copy of Astronomical methods of dating..and I have my own hp7. The first astronomical part of this book (Fomenko's one) is way too deep in many a page for a non astronomer, and the second part is a true delight for a puzzles buff, which I'm not, but this book is a must have as it is filled with well argued insights like: 'ancient' Greek astronomer Hipparchus was non other than medieval astronomer Tycho Brahe, the great Copernicus was a doctor, canon and administrator - not astronomer at all, lol.. In the 2nd egyptian section Dr et al have decoded all 'ancient' Egyptian horoscopes that contained readable astronomical information, making timeframe of Egypt very much younger (ix-xv centuries AD!!!). My 1 (one) USD safe bet is: mainstream egyptology will stay silent as mummies - this treatise is more poisonous for them than the curse of Pharaoh. Will anyone say amen Ptolemy, please?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent.
In Florin Diacu's own words: "Fomenko, Nosovski, and Kalashnikov have come up with some interesting methods that can extract new information from the almagest. like any other historical dating, theirs is based on certain assumptions, different from the ones traditionalists have made. without forcing the data, and taking three independent approaches that use valid mathematical methods, they have obtained consistent results that have been published in respected journals. Fomenko's results are obviously not perfect and do not explain everything, but their integrity cannot be denied." ("The Lost Millennium", pp. 144)

Although "Chronology 3" is composed of 2 main parts, that is the Egyptian zodiac datings and Ptolemy's almagest datings, i can only defend Fomenko with the almagest datings, they are sound, they are truly possible. i believe however that the zodiak datings still need to be worked out, i can't find any possible scenario for such late datings.

I strongly recommend this book regardless what any angry historian could say about it. anyone who believes that the chronology of world history is well documented and sound should read as a starter "Centuries of Darkness" by Peter James and his team. Truly, don't believe anyone, simply read, learn and see for yourself. This is history, not math.

When reading Fomenko, one does not have to take everything he says at face value, but one must have an open mind to a field that is dominated more by its general tradition than by its sound proof. just like most believers preach the bible without ever reading it many historians preach chronology without ever having asked the question: what if chronology is all wrong?

Ask yourself the question and dare to explore. ... Read more

Product Description
The great architect Sir John Soane carried out over four hundred recorded architectural commissions in London. Although many never resulted in a finished building, these little-known commissions formed the backbone of his life and practice and were the key to its development. "Sir John Soane and London" pulls together this vast archive of work for the first time to illustrate Soane's remarkable and extensive involvement in the fabric of the city. Soane's work in London falls naturally into four areas: London townhouses, surveyorships, commissions for monuments, mausolea and churches, and public-works commissions. Soane's London townhouse practice was the most substantial, and the architect often had to act more like a modern-day estate agent, gathering and arranging properties for his clients in the hope that lucrative architectural commissions would follow. Surveyorships, particularly the long-destroyed Bank of England, provided Soane with a regular stream of work, which he could use to develop his architectural themes, and informed the important public-works commissions in Westminster which came at the end of Soane's life.There was also a surprising amount of church and mausoleum work. All of these projects fed into Soane's wider desire to give London the buildings he felt worthy of a major European capital. "Sir John Soane and London" is organized in the same way as Sir John Soane and the Country Estate (Ashgate, 1999), with a sequence of eight case studies on important surviving Soane London buildings followed by a fully updated gazetteer of Soane's known London projects. The buildings are illustrated by newly commissioned black-and-white photographs by Martin Charles and the author's own watercolour drawings. Combined, "Sir John Soane and London" and "Sir John Soane and the Country Estate" provide the most accurate and complete record of Soane's work to date. ... Read more

Product Description
The House of the Eagle begins Duncan Sprott's Ptolemies Quartet, an epic story of the Greek Pharaohs of Egypt, whose extraordinary dynasty spans twelve generations from the death of Alexander the Great to the fall of Cleopatra. Narrated by Thoth, the ibis-headed Egyptian god of writing and wisdom, The House of the Eagle chronicles the golden years of the first three Ptolemies - the shrewd Ptolemy Soter, the luxury-loving Ptolemy Philadelphos, the empire-building Ptolemy Euergetes - and their tragic queens, pampered mistresses and turbulent children. Very soon their public triumph is marred by tragedy as the dynasty embarks on a rampage of matricide, infanticide, conquest and murder... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greek Egypt
Sprott presents here the first of a trilogy on the history of the Ptolemy Greek dynasty of Egypt.Cleopatra is the well-known romantic-tragic figure who was the last of the Ptolemy dynasty that ruled Egypt from the 300s till their defeat by Rome.

This first volume tells a very detailed, apparently well-researched story of the Ptolemy Greek dynasty of Egypt, beginning in the campaigns of Ptolemy with Alexander the Great.It carries through to the second generation of the Ptolemy family and the end of the "Successors," the generals who parceled out the empire of Alexander, then fought each other for more.

This story is a novel, but appears to be well-researched and utilizes vivid personal and environmental detail to bring to us an ancient, very different period of life and culture.The story is told by Thoth, the Egyptian ibis god of knowledge and writing.

But much of the story is necessarily from the perspective of Ptolemy, who became Ptolemy Soter (Deliverer, Saviour), the founder of the Egyptian Greek dynasty.He was declared a god in his own lifetime by the Greek oracle of Zeus in Libya, as well as agreeing late in his kingship to become the King of the Egyptians, which meant he was deified as the representative of Ra, the Sun God.

But in a Mitchneresque pattern, the author explains and fills in much background and helps the reader make connections.He provides an extensive family tree, lists of the lineages, a glossary explaining the names of the gods and other terms, and a long cast of characters.He does a very good job keeping identities clear in such a saga involving cultures and dynasties that used a variety of names.

Sprott provides good cultural insights, and deals with the ethnic attitudes of the various cultures and classes.I have been watching for the followup volumes in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ode to decadence
I am so glad there are historical novels written of such quality as this one is! There is considerable skill needed to weave history and fiction into a work which is as satisfying as 'House of the Eagle'. Duncan Srott does this admirably. Thoroughly readable.
I wait in great anticipation for the next two in the series!

Product Description

In an America obsessed with quickie enlightenment and wisdom-acquisition, Ptolemy Tompkins is a seeker who has been there and done that. From Black Elk to the Dalai Lama -- from Hun Tun and mescaline to motorcycle Zen and mind at large -- the acclaimed author of Paradise Fever has followed many roads in pursuit of a universal truth. And he has survived to tell the tale.

The Beaten Path

Ptolemy Tompkins came of age in the '70s -- before Americans began spending uplifting Tuesdays with Morrie or perusing Little Instruction Books. In the wake of a quintessentially New Age childhood as the son of the radical freethinker Peter Tompkins, author of the bestselling The Secret Life of Plants, Ptolemy began a personal quest for enlightenment decades before it became trendy to do so. He gained much valuable insight as he careened from Buddha to the Bhagavad-Gita, from Krishna to Carlos Castaneda. But how much actual "wisdom" he accrued is a matter the author himself admits is up for debate.

The Beaten Path is a work of great intelligence that is profound, moving, and hilariously entertaining. In his funny and touching account of a spiritual journey that went wildly off course, the author bares his soul even as he knocks down the gaudy signposts that guide eager pilgrims through today's pop-wisdom landscape. Yet he never loses sight of what is valuable and true in the literature of the spirit.

Part gripping personal memoir, part merciless-yet-affectionate critique, and part genuine prescription for the good life, The Beaten Path is a provocative gift from a man who left no page unturned, no odyssey uncompleted, in his determination to find direction and meaning in the cosmos. In exploring what it is that makes so many of his contemporaries actively seek the light of peace and transformation in its most convenient and palatable form, he offers readers a unique, idiosyncratic insight into our modern world. And he has great fun while doing so. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable pass-the-time kind of book
I enjoyed reading this book about the author.Good humor. Notes to myself: brush up on vocabulary.

He blends his personal typical teenage experiences with his search for wisdom.The book is broken in small titles going back and forth from what he's learned from books and the personal experiences he encounters.It's easy to pick up and put down as time permits because of this.The ending was a bit of a disappointment.But then again, the book was just what his title said it was....field notes, not a thorough autobiography.His conclusion was weak.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I tried to like this book, but he seems to be contradicting himself. Writing yet another life-path novel. His insights are shallow, memoir less than exciting and overall conclusion a disappointment.

5-0 out of 5 stars saved by the last chapter
Mostly a rather silly romp through a handful of life philosophies on the premise that there is an esoteric path to enlightenment, and the job is to keep trying one after the other until you find the one that works for you.After taking some time (most of the book)setting up this straw man, Tompkins knocks it over convincingly.Until I got to the last chapter I was fully prepared to be very disappointed.That chapter takes a very good shot at answering the question, "what's it all about?"If you are looking for insights, wrap the Huxley quote, the Hun Tun story, and the highway/service road analogy up together and give yourself a treat.Its a lesson on Buddah's "middle way", and skillfully the author avoids the label.Its an important book for anyone like myself who has been attracted to the lonely detour of wisdom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't try to drive!
The basic desire to have an answer is one shared by all.Tompkins isn't satisfied with "hand me down" answers and sets out to find one of his own.Like many of us his need for an answer leads him to those who have professed to have one....and like many of us he becomes disenchanted with the results of his search.Somehow many of these searches for wisdom have one similarity, it is " a process" . Management of this process,by lack of acceptance,compulsion,denial or self-absorption.....doesn't work. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The history and origins of cosmology
Want understand what Stephen Hawking and his colleagues are talking about, but have no idea about the history of cosmology?Then this is the book you're looking for.

This collection of texts taken from writings by Plato, Copernicus, Galilei, Ptolomy, Einstein, Hubble and other theorists discus what the universe is made of, how it works and (ultimately) what our place is in the Grand Scheme of Things, offering good insight into how our knowledge of the universe has developed over the last 40 centuries from Babylonian times to the 20th Century.

As this book was originally published in 1957 and reprinted in 1965, the latest theories are not included.It is therefore not a book for mathematicians or physicists interested in learning the latest theories, but rather a book for those interested in a well-written, general introduction to the field of cosmology.

I would like to encourage Audio Scholar toproduce more of these types of edutainment audio programs on tape or CD. In many instances I wouldn't mind seeing the programs extend to 4 tapes orCD's. I love listening to scientific books on my way to work and also loveto share them with my 17 month old son as his bedtime stories. My budgetfor this type of audio edutainment is $1,000 a year and the more scienceand physics books abridged the better. Product Description
The London cityscape has been intensely chronicled in photographs from daguerreotype to digital and is a visual laboratory for understanding the evolution of the modern city. This wonderful collection of images spans the city’s entire history, from ancient byways to beloved icons like St. Paul’s Cathedral, Buckingham Palace, and the neon lights of Piccadilly Circus.Much of modern London was built as recently as the nineteenth century and captured by the immediacy of photography.Included are such paradigm-shifting moments as the rebuilding of Westminster Palace after the devastating fire of 1834 into the Houses of Parliament we know today, the construction of the world’s first underground transportation system, and even the latest architectural wave that has been radically transforming contemporary London, such as Norman Foster’s Swiss Re Tower (aka the Gherkin). Witness how this dynamic city was built (and rebuilt), becoming the popular destination known today for its royal palaces, lively outdoor markets, lavish department stores, peaceful garden squares, naturalistic parks, and many magnificent museums. This is the perfect book for Anglophiles and for anyone who has fallen for London’s many charms. ... Read more

Product Description
Sir John Soane (1753-1837) was one of Britain's most inventive architects, whose achievements include the Bank of England and the world's first picture gallery at Dulwich. His country estate work, inspired by classicl antiquity, ranges in scale from the remodelling of existing country houses, such as Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire and Aynhoe Park in Northamptonshire, to simple outbuildings. Each reveals further the emergence of key themes of Soane's style and the results of his precise attention to proportion, design detail, and light and shade. Using the Soane Museum and country house archives, the author of this text examines ten of Soane's country house projects, reconstructing the creativity between client and architect. With the author's own drawings in watercolour to illustrate Soane's use of light and space, and photographs by Martin Charles, the text offers an insight into the work of this renowned architect.
