4-0 out of 5 stars review for calc book
this product is good only if your have the book. it is the solutions manual to the original book. the only thing is that it has every other odd number. so not all the odd numbers are in there. and it would be better if it went through steps more carefully instead of just having the answer because sometimes i get lost. but overall it is a great item and it helps when i am stuck.

3-0 out of 5 stars Student Solutions Manual to accompany Calculus: Single and Multivariable, 4th Edition
The book goes into decent detail about how to solve the problems it has, the only problem is that it doesn't have the solutions to all the odd problems. It skips around.

3-0 out of 5 stars Calculus: Single and Multivariable Solutions Guide
I think that the product is good and when I need help it lays out the solutions in a way that makes them easy to understand. However it is very limited on which problems it chooses and a lot of the times cant help me with some general questions I have.It is a good resource, but I dont know if I would recommend the guide to people.

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely necessary
When I took cal 2, I had to get this. The book does a terrible job of teaching integrals and series. The engineer that was helping me do the homework always pulled out a different calculus book to help teach me.

3-0 out of 5 stars SATISFACTORY
This book carries only the answers to the odd number problems. The text itself carries answers to the odd number questions. ... Read more

Product Description
MECHANICS by WILLIAM FOGG. Originally published in 1937. PREFACE; Mechanics is a natural science, and like any natural science requires for its comprehension the observation and knowledge of a vast fund of individual cases. Arid so the solution of problems is of prime importance throughout all the study of this subject. But Mechanics is not an empirical subject in the sense in which physics and chemistry, when dealing with the border region of tUe human knowledge of the day are empirical. The latter take cognizance of a great number of isolated facts, which it is not as yet possible to arrange under a few laws, or postulates. The laws of Mechanics, like the laws of Geometry, so far as first approxima tions go the laws that explain the motion of the golf ball or the gyroscope or the skidding automobile, and which make possible the calculation of lunar tables and the prediction of eclipses these laws are known, and will bo as new arid important two thousand years hence, as in the recent past of science when first they emerged into the light of day. Here, then, is the problem of training the student in Mechanics to provide him with a vast fund of case material and to develop in him the habits of thought which refer a new problem back to the few fundamental laws of the subject. The physicist is keenly alive to the first requirement and tries to meet it both by simple laboratory experiments and by problems in the part of a general course on physics which is especially devoted to Mechanics. The interest of the mathematician too often begins with virtual velocities and dAlemberts Principle, and the variational principles, of which Hamiltons Principle is the most important. Both arc right, in the sense that they are dping nothing that is wrong but each takes such a fragmentary view of the whole subject, that his work is ineffectual. The world in which the boy and girl have lived is the true laboratory of elementary mechanics. The tennis ball, the golf ball, the shell on the river the automobile good old Model T, in its day, and the home-made autos and motor boats which youngsters construct and will continue to construct the amateur printing press the games in which the mechanics of the body is a part all these things go to provide the student with rich laboratory experience before he begins a systematic study of mechanics. It is this experience on which the teacher of Mechanics can draw, and draw, and draw again. The Cambridge Tripos of fifty years and more ago has been discredited in recent years, and the criticism was not without foundation. It was a method which turned out problem solvers so said its opponents. But it turned out a Clerk Maxwell and it vitally influenced the training of the whole group of English physicists, whose work became so illustrious. In his interesting autobiography, From Emigrant to Inventor, Pupin acknowledges in no uncertain terms the debt he owes to just this training, and to Arthur Gordon Webster, through whom he first came to know this method a method which Benjamin Osgood Peirce also prized highly in his work as a physicist. And so we make no apologies for availing ourselves to the fullest extent of that which the old Tripos Papers contributed to training in Mechanics. But we do not stop there... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nifty Ideas
This book is repository of ideas for gaining a cash income as country folk.In the first part of the book, Osgood discusses the temperament necessary to make a go of it in the country. He stresses that country living isn't for everyone because of the hard work and skills that are required.A person who chooses to live in the country has to be self-disciplined, resourceful and creative.Osgood reviews some reasons why people might want to move to the country, and gives a few examples of people who have done so successfully.

Following this introduction, Osgood turns to enumerating a variety of jobs, professions, and occupations that country people have used to earn a living. His discussion is based on the results he received from surveys distributed to people living in rural areas. These jobs are organized into several groups, including: wages and factory jobs, services and business, professions, arts and crafts, and products from the land.He points out that if you're going to work outside of your home, remember to find housing close to the job, since automotive costs can be quite expensive and there is little public transportationavailable in rural areas.Since rural wages are usually low, such costs can eat up an inordinate chunk of wages. One couple that he interviewed gave some wise advice, "In the first place, don't think of yourself as a specialist, but cultivate a wide range of abilities so that if one of your attempts at earning a living fails, you can fall back on other competencies."They went on to say "Simplify your way of life and dramatically cut your income requirements."Osgood suggests that if you run your own business, keep it small, so that you don't need to hire outside help (which can be expensive, and also make your business subject to OSHA regulations). Each section of the book is rounded out with examples of people who have created their own niche in the country, from rural garage mechanic to freelance photographer to dressmaker. At the end of the book are an annotated list of resources for country living and an index.
