4-0 out of 5 stars Introduction to Archetypes
This was my introduction to the concept of masculine archetypes.

I found it very informative.

I recommend this book to writers, especailly romance writers. It will make it easier to write from a male point of view.

5-0 out of 5 stars great deal and great used book, would come back again.
Great book and was in great condition for a used book. Will come back.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for women.Loved it!
As a woman, It was a fascinating and insightful dive into the archetypes of men.It was easy for me to evaluate which men in my life were mature and who was stuck in boy psychology.I would also recommend this book for parents who want to help their boys cross over to mature men and how women can be counter productive at the critical adolescent stage. It wouldalso be a good read for any single young woman who wants to know what mature men should be acting like. For women, in an age of equality, you can see yourself as the female version of the archetypes, which will help you as you examine your roles with your male partners and how you can unite beautifully as you both rotate through the mature archetypes.

2-0 out of 5 stars A flawed foundation leads to a flawed conclusion at best.
After finishing the first half of the book (chapters 1-4 out of 8)I decided not to invest any more time in it.For me the bible is not a book of myths as the author repeatedly says.I see it as a book of history--a book of facts recorded for our benefit. The entire first half of the book repeatedly refers to the bible as a book of myths and then draws its conclusions based on that position. The foundation is flawed and so I have very little confidence in the accuracy of the author's conclusions.

5-0 out of 5 stars The blueprint of the mature masculine
After reading an influx of literature upon the subject of "How to be a real man" "How to make girls want you" "How to be the alpha male idiot" and others of a similar nature, I was more than delighted to find such an intelligent and thought provoking work. I have given lectures on masculinity and assertiveness skills for over five years and this book is by far the strongest of all. It permits a man to feel his masculine power as a true Fire in the Belly: On Being a Man as the great Sam Keen would put it, without resorting to any "macho jerk" type cop outs. This book describes how to live a powerful strong masculinity that is worthy of your own respect. I recommend it totally. Read it alongside No More Mr. Nice Guy!, and you have yourself a winning combination. ... Read more

Product Description
In this pioneering contribution to masculine psychology, Robert L. Moore, a Jungian psychoanalyst, and Douglas Gillette, a mythologist, examine the inner King-one of the four archetypes of the male psyche. Asleep-as far as Ego-awareness is concerned-for untold generations, the King at the center of every man's soul is now returning to consciousness. His return is heralded by many men's growing sense of empowered masculine authenticity and by their enlarged capacity to empower others: other men, their friends and co-workers, the women in their lives, and their children. The inner King integrates power and nurturing, firmness and caring, courage and creativity, self-affirmation and self-sacrifice. From his central position between the world of imagination and the world of action, the King within challenges every man to take up his own scepter, to dream dreams, and to make them come true. This new revised and expanded Text Edition of The King Within recounts, as did the first edition, the many gifts the King can bestow on men. It also offers expanded discussion of techniques for accessing and regulating the King's powerful energies. Most importantly, it presents, for the first time, a 47-page description of the 16 configurations in which the four archetypes appear in men's personalities. This additional section includes newly created graphics that illustrate Robert Moore's ground-breaking "Structural Psychoanalysis," a new and vital integration of psychoanalytic and spiritual theories that will help men achieve a full and authentic maturity-so as to steward a new and better world into being. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars ADMIRABLE 'MASULINE' TRAITS--ACCORDING TO JUNG
Robert Moore & Douglas Gillette
The King Within:
Assessing the King in the Male Psyche

(New York: Morrow, 1992)336 pages

An attempt to derive the admirable 'masculine' personality traits
from Carl Jung's archetype of the king.
Of interest mainly to committed Jungians.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kingship without Despotism
Having set the stage with their book King Warrior Magician Lover, our two authors delve deeper into what they call the central facet of a healthy male psyche, the King.

Copious examples of King qualities ranging in leaders from the Far East to American shores are given in the middle of the book which are actually quite enlightening and though similar to one another, not redundant.

Some time is spent, thankfully, explaining Jungian Archetypal theory, and the role said theory plays in the authors' development of their central argument, that a man desires to access the Archetypal King without completely identifying with the role.Again, thankfully, the authors make it clear one should 'access' the King energy without completely identifying with the Archetype...which could land one in a psychiatric ward in short order.

In addition, chapters are devoted to the Shadow sides of the King, the high chair Tyrant and the effete Weakling. So our two writers do us justice by pointing out the complexities one faces when attempting to access this King energy.

So, the goal ultimately becomes not to be King (which after all, in the day and age we are living in, would only last one day) but rather to be a 'Generative Man' who, accessing King energy, empowers and inspires those around him and uses the destructive energy of the King to aid those who most need help.

It is said when one is ready, the Teacher(s) will arrive.

I was ready.Are you?

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and inspirational
Drawing on a massive body of Study - this book has highlighted much of
my life experience and set it in a context that has allowed me to make better sense of it. I am about halfway through it and am happy to give this review on what I have read so far. It really is allowing me to know myself and by doing so be true to what I know - I am 53 years old and starting to come "online".

4-0 out of 5 stars Understanding archetypes
Students of Dr. Moore have eagerly awaited this part of his continuing series that explores the mapping of the human personality. The complete series with even my partial understanding of theory has illuminated my reading of classical text, theology and brought an understanding of modern events. Dr. Moore's work is not for the casual psycho pop fan and critical to the serious student of personality and faith.

5-0 out of 5 stars Royal Treatment
Robert Moore and Doug Gillette published 5 books (that I know of) on their theory of 4 male archetypes. The first is an overview entitled: "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover."They followed up this fine introductory work with a book on each of the 4 archetypes. This one is, of course, on the King Archetype. Each of the 4 books has a completely redundant section (worth reading once, anyway), but also has much material on the particular, titled, archetype. The names of the archetypes are defined a bit differently than society might define them--moving the descriptions into the worlds of psychology and mythology which the two authors are well-versed in.If you read one, you "should" (I dislike that word, but what can you do?) read all of them.Otherwise, you get a skewed view of the archetypes, the authors' works, and the theory they propose.I like "The King Within" very much.It provides not only description of the archetype but some ramifications and ideas as to how to implement or invoke it.I found the book uplifting and see the glass as half full. The authors provided the rationale and some means of implementation of the Mens' Movement. Not only are these books valuable to men, but they are, perhaps, even more valuable to women who wish to interact and support men. They are a wonderful addition to the literature and to humans understanding themselves and each other. ... Product Description

Award winner Robert Sabuda brings Clement Clarke Moore's classic tale of The Night Before Christmas to life in this festive pop-up edition, sure to become a perennial family favorite.Amazon.com Review
The ingenious Robert Sabuda returns for yet another inspired pop-up book, a follow-up to The 12 Days of Christmas and The Christmas Alphabet, that retells Clement Clarke Moore's classic yuletide rhyme.

Sabuda remains a master of the medium, constructing a series of varied and well-engineered scenes: Santa pops in and out of the chimney, beds fold out, a window shade rises and falls, and, in a clever nod to Moore's not-a-creature-was-stirring text, it's a family of mice who are receiving Santa's nighttime visit. A pull-out tab even lets readers interact, when Santa's sleigh glides out on the clouds and over an intricately realized village. It's hard to pick a favorite scene here, but you can bet that kids will love the book's pop de résistance, in which Santa's lead reindeer nearly fly right up your nose (if they don't knock you out of your chair first).

The book's first-rate production and lively pop-ups are enough to recommend it, but Sabuda goes one better by showing the thoughtful restraint to make most of the pop-ups almost entirely white. A few accents of color catch your eye (Santa's red suit and silver pipe), but--as befits such a dynamic book--the visual focus stays on the action. (All ages) --Paul Hughes ... Read more

Product Description
Traditional doctrinal and historical interpretation both rely heavily on rational analysis. But from the disciples at Emmaus to the beginnings of the present century, it has been the impact of scripture upon the human heart that has changed human lives. In recent decades, this impact has been strengthened by advances in linguistic and literary theory, by such disparate influences as feminism, structuralism, Jungianism, deconstructionism, the analysis of archaic imagery and myth, the recovery of Gnostic texts, and finally an openness to pluralism, whether ethnic, geographic, religious, or interpretive. All of these factors are treated here with a brevity and comprehensiveness which convincingly show that the reader of scripture has a creative and not merely passive role. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a lucid and passionate voice
I have been invited to review this book, which I found to be one of the most lucid, cogent and passionate accounts on the important subject of 'dragon energy' I have come across. It is not fresh in my mind - I read it around 8 months ago - but nonetheless, my huge enjoyment of the book, and the fact I feel honoured to have been invited by the author to review it, compels me to action.I won't do it justice because the contents are not fresh in my mind and off the page. Please accept what follows as my best job with the 8 month gap!!

In this book Professor Moore explores the dynamics of our human life forces as they play out in various private and public arenas. He names as 'dragon energies' the facet of the self developed in childhood which negotiates power and identity competitively.

He describes 'dragon energy' as something possessed of a numinous brilliance capable of god-like genius, which distorts itself in the face of perceived threat into something insiduous and toxic.

He draws on the work of other psychologists to unfold the ways our 'dragon energies' evolve from child to adulthood as we learn to manipulate and control our environment, so that we get to stay in our 'safety zones'.

He demonstrates over and over that our idea of safety from an egoic standpoint completely flies in the face of 'safety as a project' for the mature, evolved and evolving human race...

He is not afraid to ask of the clergy whether they might be jealous of the gold they perceive in another spiritual tradition, and whether they might be responsible for deploying 'dragon energy' to subvert, denigrate or appropriate some of this gold for themselves...

How refreshing to have someone from the clergy dare to raise such questions directly to the representatives of our world religions...(Many of the chapters are transcripts of lectures delivered at multi-faith conferences world wide.)

Professor Moore, as a Jungian and a Christian spans an intersting gulf - namely what is often considered 'pagan' versus what is traditionally viewed as 'Christian'. In looking at what works when confronting the 'distorted dragon' he is willing to recommend carrying a personal talisman, or deploying the clean, resonant energy depicted in archetypes such as the King, Warrior, Lover or Magician.

He also begins the book with a list of how to be able to spot the devil at work in the world. As someone from a Buddhist background, tending towards a non-dual interpretation of reality, to encounter this list has brought a significant richness to my level of enquiry and my depth of understanding...One sign of the devil, asserts Moore, is to respect no limits...How apt to draw this to our attention in a world so consumed by growth on every level!

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It should be read by politicians, gurus, therapists, architects of war and architects of peace, developers and bankers, it should be read by teachers helping young people to understand why we engage in the pursuits we engage in...

If we can harvest the rich wisdom found in the pages of this book, we will surely begin to deploy our numinous, undistorted dragon energies... Maturing into human beings who are a 'blessing force', we find we can turn towards the lives we really want to live, rather than lives lived by default, when the unexamined insecurities of our childhood hijack our actions on the world stage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the mysticism?
As I was reading this book I assumed the author had some personal experience of the "Great Self Within" and it wasn't until I finished reading the book that I realized the author had made no mention of mysticism, altered states of perception, or direct experiences of the transpersonal. Without such an experience you are likely to underestimate just how god-like the psyche can be. It is mystics who struggle the most with spiritual grandiosity because they've had privileged, personal experience of the sacred and the numinous.

5-0 out of 5 stars ideological sameness
Dr. Moore discusses how narcissism demands that others think and behave like us. It's something I struggle with daily. He draws out this and many other hidden patterns (sizes, shapes and colors) of ideological fundamentalism. To me this is an important idea for developing imagination or an open heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Facing The Dragon, The Best Book on The Great Self Within
When you take a look around at this latest rising wave of darkness in our world, there are few voices speaking with clarity about the fundamental psychological and spiritual sources of that darkness, and, what can realistically be done on both an individual and global scale about it. Many are talking naively or in terms of divisiveness out of their own grandiosity. Robert Moore's new book, Facing The Dragon, is a wonderful insight into the full spectrum of grandiosity and how it functions to create both great peace and beauty, and, great evil and chaos when not faced on a personal and global scale. Dr. Moore synthesizes many sources of understanding: psychology, religion, spirituality, and culture, and brings his perspective and research together with real examples to clearly help the reader see how grandiosity works in their lives, their families, their churches, and their governments. I highly recommend this book to anyone in academia, government, religious or spiritual study, business, or anyone otherwise on a personal spiritual journey. The book is yet another in a cohesive series of works Dr. Moore has given us intended to bring our collective psychology closer together as a planet. Thank you Dr. Moore for this continued work. I can't wait until The Dragon rears its head in the next book, Riding The Dragon! David Merkel

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an important work
Men in recovery - or anyone actually who has ever had to adjust some personal behaviour to save their own life - eventually comes to realize that the time has come to face the Dragon.Or the devil within, or the beast within, or whatever you want to call it.And whatever it was that you were avoiding with the substance or behaviour ingested - it is exactly that Dragon which must now be faced.Be it anger, fear, lonliness, what hve you. This is generally not good news. And despite the wealth of revovery material available in the world today; there is not nearly enough which approach these problems from this perspective. This is an important work. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Guidebook for the Dark Pilgrimage
No one understands male psychology better than Robert Moore. In this compilation of lectures, he offers comforting (and sometimes not so comforting) explanations of what happens at those terrifying but oh so necessary transitions in our lives. As one who is now in the "belly of the whale," I can say that this book has helped me understand how and why I got here, it has helped me understand what I am experiencing, and it has given me guidance for what I can/will/must do when this dark period of my life is over. If you are at mid-life, read this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Initiation from a Traditional/Existential/Analytic Viewpoint
Following the line of thought of anthropologists Arnold van Gennep and Victor Turner and scholar of religions Mircea Eliade, psychoanalyst Robert Moore has added "THE ARCHETYPE OF INITIATION: Sacred Space, Ritual Process, and Personal Transformation."

Van Gennep began with the three passages (separation, liminal, and aggregation) of initiatory ritual.Turner expanded the concept of liminal (on the threshold) to include more specific dynamics of liminal space.Eliade, from his perspective, has emphasized the combination of hierophany (manifestation of the sacred) and kratophany (manifestation of power) as a necessary part of initiatiory ritual worldwide.

In this book Robert Moore details the need and role of ritual elders in creating and containing the sacred space required in all transformative initiations in human experience.Though the book is fairly specialized, it is written with a minimal amount of technical terms."The Archetype of Initiation" was originally presented as a series of lectures and essays from 1984 to 1995.

Throughout the book I found the audience's questions matched my own and the Dr. Moore's answers made the concepts clearer. Also, myself having been prey to previous initiations that have been toxic, I found this book to be a beneficial guide to use before one submits to any initiation.

Psychotherapists, leaders in the Men's Movement, as well as people involved in youth counseling, prison rehabilitation, clergy, and even bewildered parents of teens will find this book very useful. ... Read more

Product Description
How does a grandmother answer her grandson's question: Is God Behind the Big Blue Sky?This charming book is one grandmother's response to the "theological" questions posed by four-year Charlie. His questions are fairly typical of what children ages four to seven would ask. These questions could throw curves to parents who may be caught off guard with such pointed questions about faith and God. Would you know how to answer them?Charlie's questions include, "Who is God?" and "When I fly in a plane, will I see God?" The answers to such queries are open-ended and broad. But reading this book will provide a foundation on how to broach such topics with young children. The theme presents responses telling of God's supreme goodness and his overwhelming love for his Creation. God's love is likened to the care that a child receives from a loving parent. These are important spiritual messages for children and adults alike.Katherine Roberts Moore, Christian educator and spiritual director, wrote this book to answer her grandson's questions about God. "Silence and centering prayer are most inspiring for me.The actual cessation of activity and going into a silent mode allows me to focus and to think more clearly." She lives with her husband near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, and is working on her next book. Publisher's website: http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/IsGodBehindTheBigBlueSky.html ... I made a mistake in ordering this book. I'm returning it right away. Even for fans of "non-con" literature, this book alternates being tepid and loathsome. This improbable tale of a professor and three college students kidnapping pretty girls to turn them into sex slaves on a private island quickly becomes about rape, torture and murder...and if you find that worthwhile or sexy, seek help.

Be aware that all the Olympia Press erotic books I've experienced have a fair amount of obvious (and irritating) typos in them and the stories are not of the best quality (otherwise they'd have been reprinted elsewhere). Better publishers include Past Venus and Blue Moon. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Pallid Effort to Pay Tribute to a TV Classic
As the semester winds down and my required reading list for seminary begins to shrink, I usually treat myself to some non-academic books on subjects that interest me. That's why I picked up Love is All Around: The Making of the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

My wife and I are classic TV fans. We like old television shows, and one of our favorites is Mary Tyler Moore. The show originally ran from 1970-77 and featured some of the most memorable characters in television history.

First there's the all-American Mary Richards, trying to make it on her own as a single woman in her 30's in Minneapolis.

Then, there's her neighbor and friend, Rhoda Morgenstern, a fast-talking Jew from New York.

Phyllis Lindstrom, the landlord - a feminist trying to raise a child according to the newest books.

Lou Grant - Mary's boss at the low-rated TV station, WJM.

Ted Baxter - the clueless anchorman whose big ego leaves no room for a brain.

Murray Slaughter - the everyman news-writer, trying to stay above water and support a family.

Georgette Baxter - the ditsy, lovable woman who falls in love with Ted

Sue Ann Nivens - the man-crazy "happy homemaker"

Even the supporting cast is fantastic: Gordy the weatherman, Ida Morgenstern (Rhoda's guilt-inducing mother), and Mary's on-and-off boyfriend played by Jerry Van Dyke.

Mary Tyler Moore is a television treasure. If you haven't seen the "Chuckles Bites the Dust" episode (in which Chuckles the Clown goes to the circus dressed as a peanut and gets "shelled" by a rogue elephant), you have missed a hilarious part of our television history.

Unfortunately, Love is All Around is a rather bland book that seeks to celebrate The Mary Tyler Moore Show, but fails to adequately chronicle its history. The authors interviewed the writers and cast of the show and simply "copy-pasted" their responses into the text of the biography. There's hardly any authoring done in this book. At times, you forget who is speaking.

Furthermore, the authors are obsessed with the political dimensions of Mary Tyler Moore, seeking to write the history of this show as if it were a treatise on feminism. But even the quotes of the cast and crew diminish their thesis. "We weren't trying to make overt political statements, only capture the feeling of the period," they say. But the authors refuse to take "no" for an answer.

Any fan of Mary Tyler Moore will catch political overtones in some of the episodes, but often feminism is mocked (think - Phyllis) as much as it is celebrated. Mary Richards may have been independent, but she never sacrificed her "lady-like" behavior. This show's writers were brilliant in the way they averted the politicization of this show, all the while poking fun at all sides of the culture wars. Mary Tyler Moore was never like All in the Family, even if the authors of this book would have appreciated such a comparison.

If you like Mary Tyler Moore, buy the 4 seasons that have already been released on DVD. You'll enjoy them a lot more than this pallid effort to pay tribute to a television classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical
Robert Moore and Doug Gillette published a number of books on their theory of 4 male archetypes. The first is an overview entitled: "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover."They followed up this fine introductory work with a book on each of the 4 archetypes. This one is, of course, on the Magician Archetype. Each of the 4 books has a completely redundant section (worth reading once, anyway), but also has much material on the particular, titled, archetype. The names of the archetypes are defined a bit differently than society might define them (e.g. the magician differs considerably from the prestidigitator)--moving the descriptions into the worlds of psychology and mythology in which the two authors are well-versed.If you read one, it's best to read them all.Otherwise, you get a skewed view of the archetypes, the authors' works, and the theory they propose.I like this book very much.It provides not only description of the archetype but some ramifications and ideas as to how to implement or invoke it.They also point out that the present situation of mens' psychologal development (somewhat lacking) is due to the loss of ancient men's initiation rights and methods. Thus, they insert some sociological/anthropological considerations into the fray.I found this book uplifting and see the glass as half full. The authors provided the rationale and some means of implementation of the Mens' Movement. Not only are these books valuable to men, but they are, perhaps, even more valuable to women who wish to interact and support men. They are a wonderful addition to the literature and to humans understanding themselves and each other.By the way, Dr. Moore is associated with the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago and many of his audio tapes are available for purchase (or rental to members). They're great! He is a fine speaker--I heard him in person when he came to Maryland some years back. ... Product Description
Completely updated edition of one of the classic works of conservative literature

Long before the advent of conservative talk radio and Fox News, Robert Ringer was an outspoken advocate for the cause of freedom and free enterprise. In this classic work–updated for the 21st century–Ringer’s basic premise is that liberty must be given a higher priority than all other objectives. The economic and political calamity that he warned about in the late seventies is now upon us, and his new edition of Restoring the American Dream is sure to resonate with the feelings of today’s angry voters. In his book, Ringer explains that:
•    The American Dream is not about increased government benefits and government-created “rights,” but, rather, about individualism, self responsibility, and freedom–including the freedom to succeed or fail on one’s own
•    The barbarians are not at the gates; they are already inside
•    Ordinary citizens no longer tell their elected officials what to do. Rather, government tells them what to do–and backs it up with force
•    The desire of people to band together to bring about quick, short term solutions to their problems through government intervention has perpetuated a cycle that has nearly destroyed the American Dream
With Washington continuing to expand government power and spending at a record pace, Restoring the American Dream is a voice of sanity in a world gone mad.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Read
The ideas in this book are incredibly important. Read and give serious thought to the ideas shared in Robert Ringer's "Restoring the American Dream" -- liberty and freedom depends on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Liberty Creates a Tide that Raises All Boats
In the effort to restore the American Dream, it is much more effective to explain things in a rational, easy-to-understand manner than to dogmatically defend one's position. This is precisely what Robert Ringer has done so well with his eye-opening book.

Many people who advocate big government do so with good intentions, but good intentions do not necessarily equal good results. And, over the past 100 years or so, we've seen government grow - often uncontrollably - regardless of the party in power.Robert Ringer was warning about the inevitable results of such massive government growth more than three decades ago.

Unfortunately, most people did not heed his warnings. But today, with the economy on the verge of collapse and our personal liberties under assault, perhaps more people are ready to listen to his wisdom and insights. If supporters of both the Republican and Democratic Parties read this book, and do so with an open mind and a sincere desire to learn, they will discover economic and political realities that are sure to have an impact on the way they view government. They certainly will come to understand the aphorism "that government is best which governs least."

I believe there are a great deal of false premises floating around about what liberty really is and that, today, the word actually confuses many people.Fortunately, in Restoring the American Dream, Robert Ringer explains the word liberty in a way that is crystal clear - and that makes sense.

There are also many false premises regarding capitalism. Is it capitalism when big business buys government favors through lobbyists?Of course not.Yet, many believe that it is.As a result, capitalism gets blamed for actions that have nothing to do with capitalism.

Do government programs really help the poor?Do licensing and burdensome regulations really "protect the public interest?"If your initial reaction is to say "yes," I'd ask you to read Restoring the American Dream. If you do so with an open mind, there's a good chance that you will feel much different about issues like these by the time you're finished.

Government's main functions are to protect its citizenry from aggression (including fraud), both domestic and foreign, and provide a system for arbitrating contractual disputes.Other than that, the most effective action politicians can take is to get out of the way and let individuals create abundance. If enough people come to understand that, we can, indeed, restore the American Dream.

Well thought-out and presented in the author's trademark, easy-to-read style, you will reap enormous benefits from this book regardless of whether you're a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, or independent.

By and large, politicians of both major parties are much more interested in control and re-election than they are in protecting our liberty.Which is why I believe Restoring the American Dream is one of the most important books of the new millennium. This all-important work could not have come along at a better time in our history.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Ringer Masterpiece
Robert Ringer is one of my all time favorite authors, and he delivers again with this updated version of his incredibly accurate vision from the past in the original "Restoring The American Dream."One of this country's staunchest patriots and champions for freedom and capitalism, Robert brings his insight to today's monetary and political problems making it easy to see how things must change to make America right again. He connects all the dots.

"With Liberty and Justice for All"

5-0 out of 5 stars Restore America's Dream and Discover How to Live Freely Today
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1M6BG4VX7B44J This book has changed my life. When I originally read it in the early 80's it opened my eyes to what is going on in our world and how to live life.I've embraced its principles and have benefited from it.Now, Robert Ringer has given us an updated version of this classic and it is better than ever.In this book you'll get practical, real-world ideas on what is going on and how you can live in the midst of it all.If you're upset (as millions of Americans are) with the loss of freedom and liberty in our world, you owe it to yourself, your friends and your children to read and implement these ideas.

You'll get a sound philosophical base as to the proper role of government. You'll also be exposed to "how the real world works" kind of discussions. Then you'll read about practical steps you can take to live your life as a free individual.

I highly recommend this book.I received it from Robert Robert in galley (early version) form and loved it.Hey, I even tore it up page by page so I could scan it and read it on my Apple iPad!Now I just ordered it as a Kindle book here on Amazon. This is one you want to get and read. You'll want to get a few copies of it to share with others who are concerned about the direction of the United States of America.

A great book.Disturbing, at times, but honest in its approach, this work from Robert Ringer shows just how bad things have become. But it doesn't stop there. It provides answers for you.

Product Description
Rolling Stone hails singer/songwriter Robert Earl Keen as "a writer with a novelist's eye for character and narrative detail comparable to forerunners like John Prine, Guy Clark, and Kris Kristofferson." In The Road Goes on Forever and the Music Never Ends, the master storyteller gives us fascinating glimpses into his own story through songs, personal memorabilia, and photographs that span his career from his student days at Texas A&M University to a recent concert at Austin's legendary Stubb's Bar-B-Que. The Road Goes on Forever and the Music Never Ends contains the lyrics for twenty-four of Keen's favorite songs, accompanied by one-liners that offer tantalizing hints at the motivations behind the songs ("Corpus Christi Bay" -- "True? Yes, unfortunately.") Accompanying the lyrics is a wealth of material from Keen's personal archive--newspaper clippings, concert posters, and programs; journal entries and letters that show him in the process of everything from self-improvement ("Do something really nice for my sister") to raising money to record an album; and photos by and of family, friends, and fans. A very personal, beautifully designed songbook, scrapbook, and photo album, The Road Goes on Forever and the Music Never Ends is the essential book for everyone who loves the music of Robert Earl Keen. Also packaged in the book is a CD with printable sheet music for all twenty-four songs, which come from Keen's critically acclaimed albums Walking Distance, Gringo Honeymoon, What I Really Mean, A Bigger Piece of Sky, Farm Fresh Onions, Gravitational Forces, and Picnic. ... Product Description
Robert Moore, whose African American identity today may be questioned by some because of his very light skin color, grew up in an all-white suburb of Philadelphia in the 1960s when the push to assimilate was blatant. An examination of the life experiences of people sometimes felt to be at the perimeter, serves to point out that the racial categories of White and Black in America remain strong and impenetrable. The book spans nearly fifty years beginning in the author's youth to a contemporary period when he is a sociology teacher in a university classroom. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Critical Review
A painful recounting of a young African American man growing up in Philadelphia suburbs where his fanmily is the only ethnic family, and how he came to grips with the problems in his neighborhood and schools. Because of his fair skin coloring, and those of his family, he couldn't understand why he didn't fit in, and yet his cousins who lived nearby, didn't seem to have the same problems. His choices, college, abnd dating were all a result of his experiences. He gives an accurate accounting of race relations in America, especially with interracial dating, and marriage. A family friend, white, who married an African American, feels the final chapter sums up relationships as they still exist today.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Made Me Think
This book gave me interesting alternative perspectives on issues related to race, race relations and interpersonal relationships. It is fascinating to ponder why people feel the way they do and the effect of our surroundings on personal tastes related to issues of race: friendships and dating especially. It is an excellent resource for those who want to persue these issues more. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Crystal Spheres and Ancient Warlords
Here are two novels in the Ace Double Novel series from 1963, one by Old Pro Robert Moore Williams and the first solo novel by Terry Carr. (His first novel was a collaberation with Ted White.) Both feature poltical figures who are rather nasty pieces of work. In the Williams novel,it is the owner of a giant corporation who keeps the population of America in slavery. In Carr's novel, it is a gubernatorial candidate who plans to exterminate the natives on an alien planet.

_The Star Wasps_ starts off well enough. We are shown the Super Corporation Building in Denver, run by the ruthless magnate, Erasmus Glock. We see the hero, who has a plan to gum up the corporate works using a small crystal sphere to break the conditioning of the workers. We meet a heroine longing to be free. We encounter some mysterious and deadly dots of light that only a few people can see. We meet the scientist responsible for the lights. It begins as a good, lightweight adventure. But then the story starts to fall apart. Scenes repeat themselves. The action becomes little more than a routine and mindless shoot-'em-up. There is a final scene at the end that redeems things a little. But it is not enough.

_Warlord of Kor_ is clearly better written than _The Star Wasps_. The plot is more sophisticated, and the style is much more controlled. The story involves an archeologist who is working with the surviving natives on a planet in an effort to unravel a mystery. At some time, thousands of years ago, peace was adopted or imposed on the natives. Yet it seems to have been done by the "forgetting" of certain areas of knowledge. Even though the natives have almost near-perfect racial memories, certain things have been supressed. What are these areas of knowledge? What is the secret of the planet that the aliens are trying to conceal? And why do they seem apathetic about the growing threat to their lives? These problems are all fairly solved. It's generally a better read... and yet, it is also somehow a routine piece. Ace put out a number of better Double Novels than these two.

_Individual Ratings_: _The Star Wasps_: Two stars; _Warlord of Kor_: Three stars

Product Description
Becoming a Poet traces the evolution of Elizabeth Bishop's poetic career through her friendships with other poets, notably Marianne Moore and Robert Lowell. Published in 1989 following critic David Kalstone's death, with the help of a number of his friends and colleagues, it was greeted with uniformly enthusiastic praise. Hailed at that time as "one of the most sensitive appreciations of Elizabeth Bishop's genius ever composed" and "a first-rate piece of criticism" and "a masterpiece of understanding about friendship and about poetry," it has been largely unavailable in recent years.
