5-0 out of 5 stars a fable for all ages!
RAD and the Quest for Geminus is a delightful morality tale for all ages - not at all preachy but fun and rollicking! The author's writing is flawless....it flows seemingly effortlessly.Mr. Kohanyi is also a keen social critic and unlike others he leaves us with a vision for this planet that is healing, wholesome and restorative! If I had kids, this book would be required reading, and it definitely will be on this year's Christmas list!

5-0 out of 5 stars A magical story for kids and adults alike!
"RAD and the quest for Geminus" is a real page-turner - an adventure story that you can see as you read it.It has multi-cultural and multi-social aspects (poor/wealthy/orphaned/kids without Dads) and teaches - not preaches - good moral values of sharing, trust and love.I am a teacher in a school where RAD is already being taught in our classes. What really impressed me before I even read it is that has the endorsement of Book Television and that a portion of each book goes to the children's charity Variety Village. What is it about?Radison Allison Davies is a celestial Messenger.Transformed into a 12-year old orphan boy ("RAD"), he is on a Mission to seek his earthly half-brother and deliver him an important message.Arriving on Earth, he's unable to find him, for the place is now under siege by the forces of Evil. However, the clever Messenger with the golden vest is not done yet, he enlists the help of two jovial Friars and a mysterious Diva, and embarks on a journey across the Continent full of challenges and fun... Will RAD bring closure to his quest for Geminus? Will Evil be pushed back? ...in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of love and renewal.I join Variety Village Honoree George Gross in saying that "RAD" is:"Uplifting and enlightening - an adventure that will be enjoyed by kids and adults alike!" ... Excerpt: Mare Frigoris (the "sea of cold") is a lunar mare located just north of Mare Imbrium, and stretches east to north of Mare Serenitatis. The mare is in the outer rings of the Procellarum basin. The basin material surrounding the mare is of the Lower Imbrian epoch, while the eastern mare material is of the Upper Imbrian epoch, and the western mare material is of the Eratosthenian epoch. The dark circular feature just to the south of Frigoris is the crater Plato. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Geminus of Rhodes (Greek: ), was a Greek astronomer and mathematician, who flourished in the 1st century BC. An astronomy work of his, the Introduction to the Phenomena, still survives; it was intended as an introductory astronomy book for students. He also wrote a work on mathematics, of which only fragments quoted by later authors survive. Nothing is known about the life of Geminus. It is not even certain that he was born in Rhodes, but references to mountains on Rhodes in his Astronomical works suggests that he worked there. His dates are not known with any certainty either. A passage in his works referring to the Annus Vagus (Wandering Year) of the Egyptian calendar of 120 years before his own time, has been used to imply a date of c. 70 BC for the time of writing, which would be consistent with the idea that he may have been a pupil of Posidonius, but a date as late as 50 AD has also been suggested. The crater Geminus on the Moon is named after him. The only work of Geminus to survive is his Introduction to the Phenomena (Greek: ), often just called the Isagoge. This introductory astronomy book, based on the works of earlier astronomers such as Hipparchus, was intended to teach astronomy for beginning students in the subject. In it, Geminus describes the zodiac and the motion of the Sun; the constellations; the celestial sphere; days and nights; the risings and settings of the zodiacal signs; luni-solar periods and their application to calendars; phases of the Moon; eclipses; star phases; terrestrial zones and geographical places; and the foolishness of making w...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1591774 ... Excerpt: Hipparchus or Hipparch (Greek: ; c. 190 BC c. 120 BC) was a Greek astronomer, geographer, and mathematician of the Hellenistic period. He was the founder of Trigonometry Hipparchus was born in Nicaea (now Iznik, Turkey), and probably died on the island of Rhodes. He is known to have been a working astronomer at least from 147 to 127 BC. Hipparchus is considered the greatest ancient astronomical observer and, by some, the greatest overall astronomer of antiquity. He was the first whose quantitative and accurate models for the motion of the Sun and Moon survive. For this he certainly made use of the observations and perhaps the mathematical techniques accumulated over centuries by the Chaldeans from Babylonia. He developed trigonometry and constructed trigonometric tables, and he has solved several problems of spherical trigonometry. With his solar and lunar theories and his trigonometry, he may have been the first to develop a reliable method to predict solar eclipses. His other reputed achievements include the discovery of Earth's precession, the compilation of the first comprehensive star catalog of the western world, and possibly the invention of the astrolabe, also of the armillary sphere, which he used during the creation of much of the star catalogue. It would be three centuries before Claudius Ptolemaeus' synthesis of astronomy would supersede the work of Hipparchus; it is heavily dependent on it in many areas. Relatively little of Hipparchus' direct work survives into modern times. Although he wrote at least fourteen books, only his commentary on the popular astronomical poem by Aratus was preserved by later copyists. Most of what is ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=13600 ... Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Bernie Rhodenbarr is the protagonist of the Burglar series of comic mystery novels by Lawrence Block. He first appeared in Burglars Can't Be Choosers, published in 1977; as of 2004, he has appeared in ten novels by Block, as well as two short stories (The Burglar Who Dropped In On Elvis and The Burglar Who Smelled Smoke). Bernie Rhodenbarr is a New York City-based thief who excels in lockpicking and breaking and entering, and who is addicted to the thrill it provides. He served time in prison in his youth, and since then has resolved to avoid getting caught again. Bernie's burglary operations are usually well-planned and tidily executed, from the initial surveillance of the target site to the escape route afterwards. However, during the course of some of these burglaries Bernie encounters a dead body, usually just before the police arrive to investigate a called-in murder. Thus begins the plotline of a typical Bernie Rhodenbarr novel, in which Bernie undertakes to solve the murder in order to clear his name. His investigative techniques include not only interviewing the victim's associates, but visits (sometimes involving illegal entry) to their homes to identify (and occasionally plant) evidence. Beginning with The Burglar Who Liked to Quote Kipling, Bernie has become the owner / operator of Barnegat Books, a used bookstore in Greenwich Village that he purchased from its retiring owner and partially funds through the take from his occasional burglary activities. Prior to the novel The Burglar Who Traded Ted Williams (to explain a publishing hiatus in the series) it was revealed that the bookstore was act...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=2471282 ...
