a great book
I have to agree that this book in all three editions was a classic text on the theory of finite population sampling and it is so readily referenced in the research literature on survey sampling that it deserves to be called a classic and should be added to Wiley's series of classic books in statistics.It also may be appropriate to call it the bible on survey sampling.But the reader should note that it is not the only good book on survey sampling.Leslie Kish's book which I also reviewed today and compared to Cochran's is a very applied text with many social science applications and may be more accessible to the non-matematically inclined reader.In reviewing Kish's book I make some comments comparing it to this book by Cochran.

A classic and the bible of sampling techiques
As a marine ecologist and a person with a non-statistical background this book was hard going but is worth the effort 10 times over. I have been using this book for more than 10 years now and finally decided to buy acopy for myself. I would recommend this book to anyone that has to designsampling programs for field surveys in ecology. classic text on design, well presented
Gertrude Cox and William Cochran were both famous statisticians who were extremely good writers. This was the book on experimental designs in 1958 with a wealth of information on randomized block, factorial and fractional factorial designs. It is still a very useful and practical reference. However it does not include the modern advance in robust designs that can be found in a text like the recent one by Wu and Hamada. Box, Hunter and Hunter "Statistics for Experimenters" is another excellent text on the classical and practical designs in engineering and agricultural experiments.

Experimental Design Techniques
Any serious student of factorial experimental design techniques should definitely read this book. It has a level of detail and sufficient explanation to move any practionier's competence along to the next level.

A Classic Texbook
This is a classic texbook.If you collect introductory statistics textbooks, this is a "must have" for your collection.

classic introductory statistics book
Snedecor first wrote this excellent elementary applied text while at Iowa State (late 1940s or early 1950s). When Bill Cochran arrived in Iowa he helped out with the revision. It was very popular and was revised by Cochran many times even after Snedecor died.

Well written and often used in elementary courses this book is also a good reference source for statistical methods. Empahsis in applied statistics in those days was in agricultural experiments and that is the reason statistics was prominent at Iowa State University in those days.

I found the writing clear and easy to follow. I recommend this book to anyone looking for an excellent introducory text in statistics.

Very nice book
This book review all common technique of statistical methods - from t-test to factorial design and regression. Also, it also introduces non-parametric statistics. Detailed examples in each chapter are helpful to read the book.
