Extractions: français, 1957- Ancien élève du lycée Louis-le-Grand (Paris) et de l'École normale supérieure, Yoccoz obtient la maîtrise de mathématiques, l'agrégation (session 1977, il n'a alors que 20 ans) et son D.E.A. sous la direction de Michaël Robert Herman , spécialiste des systèmes dynamiques (université d'Orsay, Paris-Sud ). Il entre au CNRS (1979) comme attaché de recherche et, toujours dirigé par Herman, obtient sa thèse (1985). Professeur à l'université de Paris-Sud (1988), puis professeur au collège de France , il obtint la médaille Fields en 1994 pour les résultats de ses recherches sur la théorie des systèmes dynamiques. Il fut élu la même année à l' Académie des sciences . Ce brillant mathématicien français est également lauréat du prix Salem (1988), tout comme son "maître" Herman (1976). Fields : L'étude des systèmes dynamiques traite du devenir d'un système régi par des équations différentielles et dont on ne connaît seulement que certains états observés ou calculés. Les pionniers en la matière apparaissent en mécanique céleste, avec Lagrange qui étudia les perturbations des orbites planétaires en appliquant à la théorie newtonienne les principes mathématiques du calcul des variations Laplace qui réussit à prouver la stabilité de notre système solaire, puis

Extractions: Jean-Christophe Yoccoz Yoccoz did his military service in Brazil in 1981-1983. He was a student of M Herman and submitted his doctoral thesis in 1985. As a student of Herman, a leading word expert on dynamical systems , it was not surprising that Yoccoz would himself work on dynamical systems. However, it was remarkable how quickly Yoccoz was to establish himself as the most brilliant researcher in this area. In his thesis, Yoccoz improved theorems of his supervisor Herman by giving simpler proofs but also obtaining the same results under weaker hypotheses.
