Extractions: Over the period extending from about June of 1995 to about July of 1997 we compiled a bibliography of five hundred recently published and about-to-be-published nonfiction books by and about blacks. We arrogated to this collection, which we call "The Dunbar 500," the status of being a representative sampling of books published in the United States by and about blacks during the aforementioned period. We classified about one hundred of these books as belonging to the genre autobiography, biography or memoir. We made some observations about these books in the November issue of this journal. In the interim, this collection has expanded to include more than 625 books. The number which precedes a given book title in this article represents the number we have assigned to that book in "The Dunbar 500." In this current issue we make observations on other books in this collection, books of genres other than autobiography, biography or memoir, and from another perspective: their titles. Unlike reviewers who have in hand copies of the books they are reviewing, a bibliographer who works as I do, most often with little more than the citations of the books which are found in the announcements of their publication, is frequently in the position of making judgments about the category to which books belong, with less than optimal information. Book titles and subtitles are very often the major data sources for our work.

The first three joints are much longer than thick; the four fc.llowing are shorter, and the seventh not longer than thick. The Iai-va is very common in hazel nuts and filberts. When the nuts are about half-grown, the female bores, with its rostrum, a minute hole in the still comparatively soft nut-shell, and deposits an ~ egg within the nut. The egg is said to be pushed in - by means of the long ros 4 trum. As the nut grows the slight puncture becomes almost obliterated, so that it is unnoticed by all but the most observant eye. The larva is a thick white / grub with a brownish head, - bearing fleshy tubercies along its side. It feeds upon the stibstance of the nut. The nuts which are ~ infested by this insect are usually the first to fall to the ground; the larva then
