Physiological, behavior and molecular studies motivation and reward expectancy in behaving monkeys. Our recent work in monkeys has revealed that the responses of neurons in the lateral inferior temporal lobe carry information about the identity of visual stimuli. However, in one feedforward processing step, information is no longer related to the identity of the stimulus, but instead is related to the meaning of the stimulus in predicting future reward. Through both selective cortical ablation we have shown that the rhinal cortex (medial inferior temporal cortex) is critical for learning that stimuli predict rewards. Genetically based selective manipulation of receptor formation shows that the D2 receptor must be intact for this learning to occur.

He crossed over to Charan Singh's Bhartiya Kranti Dal (BKD) and was elected to the Lok Sabha in 1969. Charan Singh inducted him as a cabinet minister and he was nominted to the Vidhan Parishad in 1970. He joined the Congress again in 1971. Misra was literally trembling when a couple of journalists informed him that he was to be the next chief minister of U.P. His regime had controversies all around right from mal-administration, increase in corruption and casteism. Whenever under pressure from the detractors, Misra used to point to his old night-gown, " This (CM's position) was the maximum I could ever think off.
