To introduce this excellent book some extracts from some published reviews follow:- "...for those who want a nostalgia fix or want to remember for a few moments the times when Britain had railways that worked, then this book should be standard issue on library shelves. And if you are a camera enthusiast your eyes will drink in images captured by some of Britain's best railway photographers" Burnley Express "The captions are to a good standard, as is the reproduction and printing. Three pleasant overseas views are included too. I had many favourite views in this album, which is also a good reference source for modellers as very often the wider scene - including so many railway "details" - is pictured. Three views on the GCR are included in the album, which is sure to be popular." Main Line Magazine "One of the great steam railway engines of all time, Sir William Stanier's unromantically designated 8F, was so significant that it still has an enthusiastic locomotive society dedicated to its preservation. Now, there is a well deserved literary and colourful, pictorial tribute to the locomotives...Many of the photographs used in the book were taken on what was essentially the 8Fs home patch, the north west - and so the scenery as well as the trains provide great interest. For all who remain fascinated by the age of steam this book is a treasure trove of nostalgia.

Gimme Shelter: Excavations At Rockhouse Cave to this effort included Scott and Glenn Akridge, Rosemary Bergeron, Lynn Boise, LindaDriggers, Mary Ann Goodman, Danny Moore, Clara penney, bill Shumaker, and http://rockart.uark.edu/rhexcav.html
Extractions: Arkansas Archeological Survey The purpose of the test excavations in Rockhouse Cave was to determine what kinds of archeological deposits existed beneath the floor of the shelter, what condition (disturbed or intact) these deposits were in, and what kinds of material remains these deposits contained. This information was required by Petit Jean State Park in order to plan effectively for the preservation of the site. Consequently, a cooperative program involving members of the Survey, the Society, and Petit Jean State Park was implemented. Description of the excavations and a preliminary assessment of our findings can be most easily summarized by individual floor space areas tested within the shelter. These areas are indicated by the letters A - E on Figure 1. Figure 1. Excavation Plan Map

Herring design, furniture In 1908, Wolf Herring started buying and selling used furniture out of the back of a horse-drawn wagon in Amarillo. He established a furniture shop in about 1910. The 25-year-old Herring had fled Russia and its oppression of Jews. Today, the Herring family operates the Herring Design Group, 1619 S. Tyler St., and the Herring Design Group The Store, 2604 Wolflin Ave. "Dad was a firm believer in giving good service," Earl Herring said about his father Wolf Herring. Earl Herring entered the family business in 1946 after serving in World War II and finishing college. He developed the interior design business as part of the furniture store and continues to run the family business. Raffkind's clothing When George Raffkind's grandfather, Eli Raffkind, came to Amarillo, he couldn't speak English. Three generations later, Raffkind's is a pronounced part of Amarillo retailing.

Extractions: Kevin Callaghan '83 Fund We are excited to announce a very special gift to Outdoor Action from Kevin Callaghan 83. This generous gift establishes the Kevin Callaghan 83 Fund an endowed fund to provide financial support each year to allow needy students to participate in the Frosh Trip Program. On talking about his gift he said, "I wish I had been able to take advantage of all that OA has to offer while I was a student. Getting introduced to the outdoors while I was in college would have been wonderful. In particular, I wish I had gone on the Frosh Tripon the margin, it wasnt readily affordable and I didnt feel I had the right level of experience." Many students on financial aid find it hard to participate in the Frosh Trip because of the cost of the program and the need to purchase equipment combined with the loss of a week of summer job earnings. Kevins gift will help make this wonderful opportunity available for many students who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate. Here is what one Frosh Trip participant had to say about this years Frosh Trip. The Kevin Callaghan 83 Fund will complement the Zander Scott 92 Fund and significantly expand our ability to aid incoming students. Each year the interest from the Callaghan endowment fund will support more than twenty-five incoming frosh. Kevins gift is the largest individual gift Outdoor Action has received. We all extend our appreciation to Kevin for his generous gift to future generations of Frosh Trip participants.
