Extractions: George Sakkestad On the Fast Track: Melanie Penney pulls ahead of the competition in a Watsonville Speedway American stock car qualifying heat. Female NASCAR drivers like Watsonville Speedway's Melanie Penney prove that a woman's place is on the tracksand not just as the trophy girl By Mary Spicuzza "YOU KNOW TO WEAR white, right?" the voice on the phone asks. I had called only for directions to the Watsonville Speedway, and the helpful woman's unsolicited fashion advice catches me a little off guard. "Ah ... no. Melanie didn't mention that," I answer slowly. My novice mind spins, searching for the reason I should wear white to a place called "the pit." "I trust you," I stammer apologetically. "But I am kind of curious. Why white?" "Well, it gets pretty dark down there. The cars go pretty fast. And most of them don't have lights," she says. "We just don't want you getting hit." While I appreciate her concern, the image of dodging race cars at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds' National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) track isn't the most comforting one. But the desire to hang out with Melanie Penney, an insurance saleswoman by day and race car driver by night, wins out over fears of being plastered to the windshield of a souped-up Camaroand my aversion to all-white outfits.
Extractions: Burnout. Too many priorities to tackle. Insufficient resources. Difficulty motivating volunteers or staff. These are the challenges facing executives and managers of non-profit organizations and agencies. Non-profits are having the same problems as for-profit corporations, such as concerns of recruiting and retaining excellent staff, with the added difficulty of fewer resources to execute tasks and to attract employees. In addition, those organizations receiving grantor funding must provide greater assurance that they will be able to deliver on the funded project goals. The work of non-profit organizations is vital to our society, but how do we inspire, motivate, and support the leaders of these important agencies? One of the most proven and cost-effective methods for enhancing loyalty, retention, and the accomplishment of goals is coaching. In April 1994, the Ford Foundation program staff partnered with the Manchester Craftmens Guild of Pittsburgh to design and deliver a Community Development Corporation/Arts Resource Initiative (CDC/ARI)a four-year investment in comprehensive neighborhood revitalization in eight urban centers from Massachusetts to Californiain an effort to forge a bridge between the arts and community development. The premise was simply that, Arts and cultural programs, if managed effectively, can make sustained contributions to social and economic progress. [Its] mission was to provide the professional training the arts administrators and community development leaders need to make the arts an important part of community revitalization.

JC Penney Life Insurance In the last bill I got an extra charge for $50 because the billing cycles of JC penneyInsurance Company and JC penney Credit Card subsidiary are not aligned. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/insurance/jcpenney.htm
Extractions: They are trying to blame me for all this, as I very seldom read all my statement details. I am aware within a few dollars of what my balance should be, so I just check general info balance, cleared checks. The fact remains that I was never notified of this charge by either BofA or JCP. JCPenney claims they mailed a policy statement. I have all my mail from 1998, and there is NO mail whatsoever from JCPLife. This is a blatant violation of sharing of my financial info by Bank of America, and possibly fraudulent behavior on the part of both JCPenney Insurance and Bank of America. I never provide any checking account info over the telephone, except to Bank of America customer service reps when there is a check order placed or a question concerning my account. Damage Resulting: $250 in unauthorized charges to my checking account, which BofA allowed (this promotion was a joint venture between them and JCPenney Insurance). JCPenney wants me to fill out a dispute form - they have taken the attitude that I have to somehow prove I didn't agree to this policy.
Post-Crescent - Street Work Steers Clear Of J.C. Penney Building APPLETON Redevelopment of the former JC penney property downtown remains uncertain estatebroker; Paul Hoffman, president of Hoffman Corp.; bill Paul, owner http://www.wisinfo.com/postcrescent/news/archive/local_4167724.shtml
Extractions: Post-Crescent staff writer For now, Vinton Construction, general contractor for the $5.2 million College reconstruction, has agreed to leave old sidewalks on the south and east side of the building, pending an agreement on the project. A project agreement would mean installation of a temporary sidewalk. If an agreement is not reached by mid-June, workers will install permanent walkways and other streetscape amenities, said Bill Siebers, assistant to Mayor Tim Hanna. Mark Lahay, a Department of Public Works engineer who is managing the reconstruction project for the city, said it would be foolish to put in new concrete only to rip it up later. Hensler said as long as the contractor has crews working on the project, the delay is not a concern. The developer would pay for bringing crews back and replacing sidewalks, he said. Extractions: Post-Crescent staff writer Peter Hensler, economic development director for the city of Appleton, said developers have pledged to demolish the old retail store at the corner of Superior Street and College Avenue regardless of whether they have something else to build in its place. Primary developers are owners John Pfefferle, a commercial real estate broker; Paul Hoffman, president of Hoffman Corp.; Bill Paul, owner of Bill Paul Ltd. in Appleton and Neenah; and Steve Gries, owner of Gries Architectural Group Inc. The developers, doing business as Tri Park Commerce Center have been mum on the nature of the proposed project. The building, 302 W. College Ave., has stood vacant for more than 20 years. Kalata said he has no problem withholding action until after the July 15 deadline. Ald. Edward Spang said he had no quarrel with the intent of the resolution, but he said the developers should be allowed a little more time to strike a deal. Delays in the development have complicated the College Avenue reconstruction project. Last week, an asphalt matte was installed for a temporary sidewalk around the building and in the adjacent street.

More On Sears And... JC Penney? In fact, the bill immediately following the purchase will detail how much of the inall flavors, is advertised in the new Fall/Winter JC penney catalog for US http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/9906/11.sears.shtml
Extractions: June 11, 1999, 2:00 pm ET Some folks find it amusing that Sears, the newest national chain to sell Mac products, is touting its iMac's $1,199 price (which is fairly common) as special. However, a Sears employee who has asked to remain anonymous says that's the name of the game in retail. He also sent us the following info: "The retailer can set the price of the product at whatever it considers a fair retail value. Apparently, Sears decided to debut the iMac at $1,299 and put it on 'sale' at $1,199. While that seems pretty silly and downright dumb to us Mac aficionados, not to mention wrong, it's all part of retail. Sears will match prices with any other local retailer on any identical product at any time, so folks can always get the iMac at the lowest price other retailers offer it for (excluding catalogs and the Internet). Also, the iMac, in all flavors, is advertised in the new Fall/Winter JC Penney catalog for US $1,399.99. Hmmm. Maybe the Sears price is pretty special after all.

In 1996 Fine Crowd released it's debut independent recording "Poverty's Arse". From October 1997 to March 1998 Fine Crowd was in studio recording "Sucker For Good Company", released April 1998. This album highlights the bands' polished presentation, infectious personalities and writing skills. Nine of the songs are new and original penned by members of the band. At The 10th Anniversary East Coast Music Awards in Halifax 1998, Fine Crowd performed new material from "Sucker For Good Company" and began a major season of performances starting in Halifax. Fine Crowd are described as "An original, high energy, traditional Celtic band", principally based on Newfoundland's Irish heritage. Overall, Fine Crowd is a very friendly group, always willing to share a moment with fans and patrons. They also gladly give hints on instruments. They show their pride in their home province with songs such as "The Islander". Fine Crowd is also perhaps one band that is overlook by many music insiders. Their approach in retaining control and maintaining a fresh, yet old sound, makes them the best band in Eastern Canada.... If not the world?
