1625-29: Charles I - The First Crisis A commission of Bishops, including william Laud, Richard neile, and John Buckeridge, licensed the work, and from then on held the real power in the Church of http://history.wisc.edu/sommerville/361/361-24.htm
Extractions: 1625-1629: the first crisis of Charles I's reign Charles I combined stupidity with an exalted view of royal power. Naturally shy, his court was far more dignified and formal than his father's had been. Pious and chaste, stubborn and unimaginative, his personality played an important role in England's descent into Civil War. The twenty-four-year old Charles married fifteen-year-old Henrietta Maria (by proxy) on 1 May 1625, but initially continued under Buckingham's influence and saw little of his wife. Buckingham was extremely unpopular in the country at large. As a result of his marriage, Charles made many concessions to Roman Catholics (in particular, temporary non-enforcement of the penal laws against them) and this aroused suspicions in the first Parliament of his reign. Parliament assembled 18 June 1625 and did vote two subsidies (c. £140,000), but this was not nearly enough for an effective war. Parliament refused to vote any more taxation unless they could supervise its expenditure.
SKCM: S.Charles: History-St. Charles And The Church Of England I had seen the rise of the Arminian influence in the Church especially with the appointmentof such men as Richard neile, Lancelot Andrewes and william Laud to http://www.skcm.org/SCharles/History/history_Charles.html
Extractions: Home S.Charles S.Charles and the Church of England With the solid support of William Laud, who was appointed by Charles as Archbishop of Canterbury in 1633, Arminians were promoted and became the most influential party in the Church. Indeed church affairs in the 1630s were dominated by S.Charles and Laud. Laud became a hate figure for the Calvinist faction who saw that Laud and the King were set on dismantling the Calvinist edifice of the Church. Whilst keen to restore the catholicity of the Church Laud was not a Romanist and placed a special emphasis on the correct use of the Book of Common Prayer which had become almost unrecognisable in many dioceses. He also placed a restraint on preaching, believing it to be subordinate to prayer and the sacraments in public worship and that this would correct what he saw as an imbalance in favour of preaching. As can be expected, this provoked an outcry from the still sizeable Calvinist contingent in the Church. The Holy Communion was once again seen as the principal action of the Church rather than the sermon. The doctrine of the Real Presence at the Communion was once again taught in the universities. Vestments began to be worn again. Candles were lit once more and a greater emphasis was placed on the externals of worship including the use of music. In particular altars were restored in church buildings, replacing the communion tables which had in turn taken the place of the old stone altars during the iconoclasm of the protestant reformation.

Extractions: Keith Kendrick on folkmuusik juba üle kolmekümne viie aasta. Derbyshirest pärit laulja-pillimees sai tuntuks folkansamblis The Druids, kes viljeles neljahäälset laulu ajal, mil kõik usinalt hoopis biitrütme harjutasid. Järgnes kolmeliikmeline a capella ansambel TUP ja umbes samal ajal ka nn. English Country Dance Band Rams Bottom.

There are several public schools in the parish for educating the humbler class of children, including two, each conducted upon the National and British plans; and a free school. The country around here, until lately, was too rough and wild to admit of much arable tillage; but, with the auspices of the wealthy iron-masters, some of whom have elegant residences in the neighbourhood, it has arrived at great perfection, and the crops from the land in the vicinity of the town are nearly equal to those obtained in fertile districts. The market days are Wednesday and Saturday - the latter the principal one. Fairs, March 18th, July 18th, September 2nd and 24th, the second Monday after October the 10th, and November 17th. The parish of Merthyr Tydfil comprises the hamlets of Forest, Garth, Gellideg, Heolwermood, Taff and Cynon, containing collectively; according to the returns of 1841, 34,978 inhabitants; but according to the census of 1851, the population had increased to 46,378.
