Mardia is presently Senior Research Professor, a position which has been specially created by the University of Leeds after the expiry of his position asChair of Applied Statistics held since 1973. He was a founding Director of CoMIR . His publications comprise over two hundred articles in statistical journals and numerous books, including Statistical Shape Analysis, Statistics of Directional Data, Multivariate Analysis and The Art of Statistical Science: A Tribute to G. S. Watson. He recently edited volumes 1 and 2 of Statistics and Images, Proceedings of MIUA '98 and four Proceedings of the University of Leeds Annual Statistics Research Workshops (LASR) . He founded and organized the LASR Workshops, which have grown since 1973 into international conferences. In addition to spatial statistics, his current interests include bio-informatics, shape theory, image analysis, multivariate analysis and directional statistics. Recent research has covered topics such as face recognition from photographs, shape analysis of the human spine, Bayesian data fusion using medical images from different modalities, growth studies through laser scans, assessment of stereolithograph skull models and molecular structure of proteins. Extractions: Bio-genetical affinities among the Koli community of Maharasthra, India The author worked as a Co-Investigator (with Dr. J.R. Lukacs, University of Oregon, Eugene, USA, as a Principal Investigator) for a project on dental anthropology. More than 1200 dental impressions were taken on some of the tribes and castes of Maharashtra for the assessment of morphometric features and biological affinities on dentition.
